The back was clean and also offered seating. I love how they bring the food to your car! I ordered fried perch and popcorn shrimp. I received one fried fish and a ton of popcorn shrimp. The shrimp should be deveined, and clean, small size shrimp are too small. Not sure why they wouldn't. Food should be clean not just thrown in a plate and served in that manner. read more

Hello Yelpers I truly want to always be honest with you in my reviews. With that being said I am giving this establishment 2 stars this go round. ‍ we have supported this business for years, however our last couple of to go orders have not been favorable. Allow me to explain: we called in our order; 1)stuffed crab meat in shells & 2)- 2 fried combo white fish & jumbo shrimp, collards, no coleslaw, but add applesauce. With this order you would normally receive 2 pieces of fish. Which was 1 nice size fish sliced from top to bottom, cleaned and fried. Which changed to 1 half of fish sliced in half and presented as 2 pieces...NOW with our latest order someone thought it would be okay to take the half of the half and cut those in smaller pieces. So imagine for finger length and we got 2 of those. So where the fish used to look like it was coming out of the container, to looking for 2 pieces of fish. Please know the prices did not go down either. The stuffed crab shells.. If you want some extra bread by all means order this. For this of us that actually want some hint of crab DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY Honestly ALL seasoned bread & over cooked. Shame on you Mayflower!! We also ordered collard once we arrived we were told on 2 occasions oh we ran out we were giving coleslaw after requesting none. Some of the staff does not even speak to you when you walk in. So please check your orders BEFORE you leave and make sure you get what you ordered or asked for. I am hoping this was a small lapse in the organization for this few weeks and they get back to what we were introduced to a few years ago. The worst experience I've had in a long time. First, the air conditioning was not working (I know not their fault) but we decided to stay (since our favorite seafood place was closed). Only a couple of servers working (I know that nobody wants to work these days). Drinks were brought to the table as we waited for the food. Ever had iced tea with no ice...that's what we got. Server never visited the table for drink refills throughout the meal. Flounder was crust only (no meat to it) and tasted really old. $50.00 lesson learned....never again! read more

I placed a take out order 3 plates. I got home and was missing one plate I ordered and 2 sides were missing in the 2 plates. Called and told them I was to far to come back for it. Went the next day and they have me a refund for the one plate but was not apologetic that my husband didn't get food that night or offer any compensation for my inconvenience or even offer a refund for the missing items in the two plates I got. Tried the local favorite and it was horrible. If you aren't from these parts, don't do it. Shrimp are horribly small and the fish was fried to nothing. The slaw was made for old folks. Being from Philadelphia and the Jersey shore I'm a seafood snob. I ordered the broiled Mayflower platter and a cup of clam chowder. YUM! The chowder was a perfect thickness, clams fresh and spices subtle with a slight hot kick to finish. I usually don't eat hush puppies but these came out looking like onion rings so I thought the waitress made a mistake. After one bite I was hooked. The Mayflower Platter was delicious as well and so much food that I asked for a container. Our waitress was sweet and solicitous. I'm a fan and definitely coming back. read more

This was my third time here and the experience was good! I got the pick 3 (fried catfish, broiled shrimp and scallops). The meal comes with a house salad to start. I also got the new england clam chowder for the first time which was really good! The waitress messed up a little but overall she was a good server. I felt as though I was walking into a time machine with nasty, icky carpet, florescent lighting, cracked seats and chipped tables. The waitress was sweet enough but the food was ack. My salad came out the same time as my meal, and the bleu cheese dressing was pink. It tasted like thousand island with bleu cheese chunks. I had a fried combo with oysters, clams, and scallops. There wasn't much separating the flavor of the three because there wasn't much seasoning. I thought cocktail sauce would liven it up, but it was virtually catsup. Of course it could have been catsup, what do I know? I'm not sure why the crowd was there, but that's kind of scary. When I came in, the cashier and hostess were having iPhone lessons. I politely intercept it and ask for a lid, upon looking into it I see a minimum of 5 lemons. We hadn't asked for any. I say and no lemons with her water please. You would have thought I'd asked for a cardinal act in the parking for lot. And she screamed at me " how was I supposed to know?" This is not the first time I have seen in rational behavior with their employees. A few months ago I thought the hostess and this same waitress where going to come to blows. Fried goodness is all I have to say. Fried Fish, fried oysters, fried chicken, fried hushpuppies and french fries. Everytime I visit my mom in Burlington, I make a special trip to Mayflower to get my fried food fix. A majority of the menu items fried seafood items so don't come here expecting to find lots of diet options. They do have some broiled options that are quite good and come in decent sized portions. In my opinion, the fried okra and baked potato are the best sides. I think it's best to skip the french fries. This place is always busy which is a good sign. The portions are huge so you may want to share a platter because trying to heat up day old fried food doesn't give it justice. read more

Cutting corners and over-charging was a trend throughout the meal, EVEN AFTER I specifically asked questions about my selections when ordering because the menu didn't explain the quantity vs pricing. When the meal didn't match the order I addressed the waitress who argued against what she had originally told me. She then went to get a manager who essentially said the waitress didn't know what she was talking about. Even with the manager "adjusting the bill," it didn't match the menu prices. A hush puppy was literally intertwined with someone's hair, and the baked spaghetti plate only had enough sauce and cheese to cover about 25% it. The scallops were unseasoned and curiously squishy. Waited almost 5 mins to be greeted by server. Was never told what specials they had for the evening. Was never offered a refill on my drink while the younger male with me was. The server never once made eye contact with me and never smiled or showed any interest in being our server. Food was placed on table and condiments tossed down as if we were annoying her. Food is beyond dismal. It was actually comical to see my poor husband try to choke down his meal. Mine was awful, too. The only reason we didn't leave is because of our waitress, who was doing her job with a big smile. I do like the cheeky decor inside. My family has ate here a few times both when very busy and slow. The staff is friendly and very fast with food, drinks and hush puppies. The food is a mixed bag. The baked potatoes and hush puppies are good. The popcorn shrimp is medicore at best. The cole slaw is good when it is served COLD AND NOT ON A HOT PLATE. (I actually got food poisoning from it.) The portions are good for the weeknight specials. All other meals are very expensive. read more

What the heck happened here? I've been eating here for 15 years, it was one of the first restaurants I ate at when I moved here and it has always been fantastic, but not today. Some of our customers have told us that there was a slide in quality and a jump in prices, but I didn't think it would be this bad. My wife and I both got the combination platter. I got shrimp, scallops and deviled crab, she opted for the scrimp, scallops and oysters. I had fries, she had the baked potato. I really can't think of a single good thing to say about the meal, not one. Well, there was the tartar sauce, it's normally on the table in a squeeze bottle, warm and not my cup of tea, but now they bring it out in 2 oz cups cold, it was the highlight of the meal, the tartar sauce! The shrimp were tiny, and I mean tiny, they had been cooked at least 20 minutes before we got them, the scallops were different than they usually are, they were hot, but overcooked and disgusting. The crab cakes are normally my favorite, not anymore. They appeared to use about a pound of crab meat to every 12 pounds of bread crumbs, the crab taste was merely suggested, not pronounced. Diana's oysters were totally inedible, fried to death and horrible. My fries were limp, cold and only half cooked, Diana's baked potato would not even melt the cheap spread that they use for butter. Breaks my heart to see this happen to one of my favs, but such is life. When we were paying ($32) the lady asked if everything was ok, I was silent, and she gave me that "we've been getting a lot of that" look. She never said another word. Used to eat here pretty regular years ago. The service and quality of the food kept going down so finally went elsewhere. Went back a couple of time in the past 2 months and it appears that neither has gotten any better. Service is extremely slow and the food is not good. There was not very many people there anytime we went due to being mid afternoon time frame. I usually get white fish and they were very greasy. Driving back to Raleigh from holidays with the family, I stopped here for a quick lunch. The extra star was because it was quick, and the service nice and fast (though frenzied even though it wasn't crowded) as well. The food? Disgusting. Seriously. I'm not that picky, but I had the fried oyster platter and it was probably the worst seafood I've had. Very over fried, and had an extremely strong fishy scent and taste. The cole slaw was more soup than slaw, and the green beans clearly came from a can and were completely "mushed", along with brown bits in them (fried stuff or bacon, I couldn't tell). Don't know Burlington well, but there have to be better places nearby. read more

There is NO WAY what they served us was Alaskan flounder. It was so watery and tasteless that it wasn't even edible. I have been a long time regular customer of Mayflower. Today was by far my worst experience. First of all I recognize that they are short staffed probably due to covid. That being said there is no excuse for poor hospitality. When I placed my order for a BOILED SHRIMP SALAD the server corrected me and said, "broiled." I, "said no boiled." She said we broil our shrimp for salads. I told her that the menu said boiled or cold. She then asked me what sided I wanted with my salad. When my salad came, the shrimp was neither hot nor cold, just cool. I put a piece into my mouth and it was not cooked. It was still gooey and slick just like raw shrimp. I told the waitress that I didn't want it and again she saw the need to educate me on what (this time) what boiled shrimp is and why it was not hot or even warm. That wasn't the issue. It was raw. She called the manager, and she also thought she needed to educate me on boiled shrimp and how the cool it after boiling. If I wanted cold shrimp, I would have ordered cold shrimp. Again, that wasn't the issue. It was raw. Never had a manager argue with me before. first and last visit!! ordered the broiled seafood combo. hushpuppy rings were cold.deviled crab was so tough it was like digging through leather just to get to the mush inside.popcorn shrimp were not devleined. both the shrimp and scallops were tough and cold. flounder was nothing but a slab of fish. all of the food was covered in seasoning, i am guessing old bay and that is all you could taste. teeny tiny container of slaw. only good thing was tea and baked potato. i didn't complain because of the person i was with didn't want to say anything. $35.00 wasted my advice is to run away as fast as possible. don't eat here! They have pretty good southern fried seafood here. I like the flounder, oysters and popcorn shrimp. They serve it quickly and at a reasonable price. This is rather no frills dining, so if your expectations are not set to high you should enjoy it. The place is very popular. read more

The only reason that I am rating this this high is because I cannot rate it any lower. It was a little late but the big neon sign said OPEN. There was not anyone in the dining room. We had to beg to be seated and then the "employee" grudgingly seated us without so much as a pleasant comment. We sat there for over 15 minutes without seeing a soul but we could hear sweepers going. I enjoy Mayflower Seafood. This was my first time at this particular location. My father in law wanted some seafood and normally goes to another restaraunt, but they are closed on Mondays. My husband and I took him to Mayflower and he was impressed with the amount of food that they give and their soup. I enjoy getting a shrimp and fish platter with baked potato. The clam chowder soup was pretty good too. I am not a fan of their hush puppies though. If you are looking for seafood at a decent price and want a good portion, Mayflower Seafood is a place to go. read more
