Good evening, I just had an order made to go and it ended up going to another patron. It wasn't the correct order. However, because it was 25 minutes til closing, we were given a new plate but the food was not cooked thoroughly. Hush puppies uncooked and the fish was flash fried and did not have seasoning. I am really shocked because we love this place but we are not impressed tonight and are really upset. There were no drink cups given and it was just all around bad. Got our food to go. The place appeared to be pretty clean. I got shrimp and whiting dinner with a side of sweet fries (sweet potato fries), and mom got a shrimp and catfish dinner with same side. When we got home, we could not differentiate our plates. It looked and tastes exactly the same. I wish I took pics of our meals. It's great that our portions were plentiful. My fish and shrimp were beautifully fried, but it lacked seasoning. I did very much enjoy the sweet potato fries. The cinnamon brown sugar concoction for the fries was strange. The flavor was off putting and the texture was weird. They had a steady stream of customers coming in, and were getting the orders out quickly. Made me nervous for how hard the fish may be fried. Small, unassuming spot that serves THE BEST SHRIMP IN GBORO! I can personally vouch for the jumbo shrimp and the crab & shrimp poboy (they don't skimp on the crab). I don't eat catfish but my parents can't get enough of 42 Fry's catfish pack. Also, the lemonade is crack, waaay better than Chick-fil-A. The prices are reasonable and the portions are just right. But, the absolute best thing about 42 Fry is the staff. They're even better than the shrimp lol. I've called in and picked up multiple orders and have never had a bad experience. I literally have mixed feelings about this restaurant. *Pros: friendly staff, food was hot and fresh, didn't take much time to recieve order *Cons: sketchy location, not the cleanest of establishments, fried fish had no seasoning literally used hot sauce and tartar sauce for flavor, overpriced for frozen/store bought hush puppies, prices don't reflect quality of food Overall I wasn't impressed. I ordered the Catfish Nuggets Basket w/Fries and they were delicious! They weren't cooked to death. I'm fact I put them in the oven for just a few minutes and they were just right. The flavor was really good. The fries were also perfect, crispy on the outside and soft inside. I had so much catfish left that there was enough for today, but they were mysteriously gone when I decided to have lunch. Lol! I'll definitely try those again. Let me start by saying the fish was amazing! I got the catfish and shrimp combo with fries. The fish and shrimp both had the perfect amount of breading and had great flavor. The only reason I am giving them 4 stars is due to the amount of shrimp that was given with the combo. The amount of fish was perfect but you can see the small amount of shrimp that was given in the pictures. I would also say the tarter sauce was a little sweet for my taste but all in all this place is a spot not to pass up. The seating inside is limited with approximately 6 or so 4 top tables. read more

Just got into town and was hankering for seafood. Our go to spot was closed for another hour and I couldn't wait that long. A friend recommended 42 Fry so we went there instead. It was a very clean establishment, and we were greeted as soon as we entered. Okay, off to a great start! They had a varied menu - all types of seafood prepared many ways. We opted for a whiting dinner since it came with 5 pieces of fish, hush puppies, a side and a drink. We picked greens as our side btw. The wait was minimal, and all the food came out piping hot. First bite of greens was excellent; tender, seasoned well and best of all not from the can. Next up Cole slaw. Now the slaw was slightly sweet, again nicely seasoned. The only thing about it is that there wasn't enough. The very very small container was something like what you have in the grocery store. Just enough to make me annoyed for not ordering an extra side. The hush puppies were crispy on the outside, and so delicious on the inside. I loved the fish!!! If you remember the old fashioned fish camp style places, this is the updated version. Great fried fish, great hush puppies (perfectly fried and not burned, done in the middle), great collards. Fish is lightly dusted with breading. Serving of cole slaw (included with dinner) is dismal and not very good. Okra is wonderful! Everything was served HOT and fresh. I will go back! read more

We recently moved into the neighborhood and found 42 Fry thanks to a random internet search for local restaurants. Tried it on a whim and were absolutely bowled over by how delicious everything was. My husband loves the catfish sandwich and I tend to go for combo baskets; but everything we have had is amazing. We get take out every couple weeks now. Only downside is sometimes they can be difficult to reach on the phone; there have been several times we have tried to call and the line is not connected or no one picks up. But they have online ordering when the phone isn't working so it's not too big of a deal. Highly recommended! read more

My husband and I tried 42 Fry one week ago after seeing the recommendations from the morning news show. It was our first time and upon first appearance of restaurant, we were quite skeptical. However, we placed an order for catfish and shrimp meal and dinner and was pleasantly surprised. The food was hot, fresh, delicious, plentiful and a reasonable price. We will definitely be returning. I saw an ad on television for this restaurant, so I was excited to visit the location to try their fried fish. Once there, I ordered a take out fish platter, it took a little while, but that wasn't a problem. The staff there was very friendly. When my order was ready it had a strong fish smell, but I just thought it was just the smell of fish. This smell grew stronger in my car, but again i thought it was just the smell of fish. When I finally got home and took a bite of the fish, and it tasted like it was rancid /spoiled. I had to spit it out, and I through the whole platter away (outside my home).. My first time trying this place and it was AMAZING! I ordered the shrimp basket with potato salad. The shrimp were perfectly season and cooked- by far the best I have ever had! They were better than any shrimp I have even gotten at the beach! The potato salad was very good and you could tell it was homemade. The business was extremely clean-bathrooms included. Food is decent, but customer service sucks! First time I went I ordered a sandwich and got a certain type of bread. I went back today and assumed it would come on this type of bread again. When I politely asked for the bread I had before they told me it would be an up charge. Not only that, when I called they said I could not order ahead unless I was able to pay over the phone.
