stopped in here just to pick up mango sticky rice. they took my order right away and had me wait at the bar. there weren't too many people around 5pm on a Sunday. i waited for what felt like 15-20 mins. the sticky rice was HOT even through the takeout bag. i love mango sticky rice and had seen reviews online saying theirs specifically is great. seeing that they have received Michelin stars for multiple years, i was curious what they do differently. the sticky rice is a light green color and it's sweet! it kinda tastes like it was cooked with palm sugar, but not sure what makes it green. their coconut sauce is rich and salty. they gave us half a mango which is the usual amount at other places as well but it was a little sour. combined, it was sour sweet and salty. the rice goes well with the coconut sauce and the mango pairs well with it too but i personally didnt love the three together. this is definitely different than other mango sticky rices i've tried. coming in at $15 it is a little higher than other places but i'm glad i tried it and would want to try other dishes here in the future. other notes: the restaurant interior is beautiful. they have some items displayed within the wall like a museum. their ceiling is decorated with paint and has a central gold piece laid in the center like the sun. they even painted a pattern on the pipe running along the wall, making it belong as part of the space rather than a utility. the staff had matching uniforms, making it easy to see who to talk to. read more

Look up the folktale--it's quite the story :o I stopped by on a Saturday in the early evening and was seated immediately. Reservations aren't accepted for parties of five or fewer, so it's walk-ins only for smaller groups. The restaurant is on the small side, with a cozy, chic, and intimate vibe. I really liked the exposed brick walls, plants, and warm, dim lighting. The menu focuses on Southern Thai dishes, which are known for their intense heat, strong herbs, fiery spices, fresh seafood, and punchy flavors. This is considered the boldest, spiciest, and least sweet among Thailand's regional cuisines. The menu covers all bases with curries, noodles, soups, stir-fries, grilled meats, and more. And if you're still craving the classic Thai favorites, don't worry--they've got those on the menu too. Most dishes have at least *some level* of spice, even if you don't see those little chili pepper emojis next to them... so consider yourself warned! Now... the drink menu? I absolutely adored the creativity behind the Thai-inspired cocktails. It's more on the botanical side and reminded me of a cucumber spritz. I'll say these drinks were very ALCOHOL-FORWARD... The liquor was definitely the star of the show, so I didn't really taste much of the other ingredients besides the base spirits. Not sure if the bartender had a heavier hand that night or if that's what they're going for. Now this could be a bad thing if you're someone who likes drinks that mask the alcohol. But if you actually want to taste your liquor... then it's a win LOL. Even though I would've loved for the other flavors to pull through, I can't complain. At least I know my $$ was going toward the actual alcohol. To eat, I ordered: *Kaeng Phed Ped $31 [roasted duck curry with pineapple, lychee, tomato, chili paste, & coconut milk] - Mhmmm, the duck was SO tender and savory--unlike any duck I've had before! The red curry had the perfect amount of lingering heat for me, and every bite was an explosion of flavor. Spices, citrusy notes, fragrant herbs... The pineapple and lychee added pops of sweetness to balance out the spice--so much was going on (in the best way) that it's honestly hard to describe lol. Just try it! *Roti Nam Keang with Chicken $23 [curry with potatoes, onions, peanuts, & coconut milk topped with fried shallots and served with pan fried roti] - The roti (flatbread) was perfectly crispy and flaky. The curry was a Southern twist on Massaman--mild, rich, and creamy, with warm baking spices and roasted peanut notes. I couldn't stop dipping my roti in it. There was a good portion of chicken, but after trying the duck curry... it just couldn't compete. Service was warm and friendly, and both the food and drinks came out without a long wait. I'd love to come back to explore more of the menu. I really wanted to try the mango sticky rice dessert, but ya girl was STUFFED. Maybe next time I'll work up the courage to order a 3-chili pepper dish LOL. They also have weekday lunch specials and Happy Hour every day of the week, so there's always a good reason to come back. Came here for dinner on a Wednesday night with a party of 4 at 730. The restaurant was crowded but we were able to get a table within 15 minutes! We were also pleasantly surprised to learn that they have a happy hour that ends at 8 pm with drinks discounted as well as discount on edamame and spring rolls (we got the rolls and they were great!) Super cute vibey ambiance. Service was quick and food came out super fast. This was one of the best Thai spots we've had in the city with great prices. I am so hungry looking back at the photos I took of my meal here, particularly the fried quail egg appetizer. A quail egg on a menu hates to see me coming, because I'll be ordering it. I also devoured their peanut dumplings with blue pea flower to give the dumpling skin a vibrant blue color. What they say about color affecting how the food tastes is embodied in this dish. The rest of my order was pretty standard, and included somtum (papaya salad), roti with curry sauce, pad thai, and calamari. All were prepared quickly and with aplomb. My main complaint is that the place looks really dated, and they just had the door open with no air conditioning the summer night I was there, which invited lots of mosquitoes. That plus the wet rag smell in the dining area did not make for the best dining experience. I'd recommend taking your food to go instead. read more

Be warned--they really mean it when they say "medium spicy".   ＊Kaeng Phed Ped $31** We've had crispy duck curry at several Thai spots, and this one served the most tender duck by far. We couldn't stop digging into the dish--it was that delicious.   ＊Pad Mee Kati $27 It was a southern thai style sautéed vermicelli noodles, topped with lump crab meat and omelette. Not only was it picture-perfect, but it was also absolutely delicious. I especially enjoyed the thin, chewy noodles. ＊Fried Ice Cream $12 Undoubtedly a showstopper. I was stunned to see the ice cream not melting in the fried ice cream! It was coated in breadcrumbs, garnished with coconut flakes and chocolate drizzle. This place was great! Me and my girlfriend really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was comfortable with some decent mellow music playing in the background. We arrive around 9pm and the place wasn't super crowded but all the chairs seemed to be filled. The place seats I would say around 40-50 people. Reservation aren't needed if your party is less than 6. We wanted to try a mix of everything. We started with the spring rolls and the Gai Tod Hat Yai fried chicken wings. The spring rolls were good but mid at best. The Gai Tod wings were extremely good! I highly recommend. Our main dishes were the Tom Yum Goong soup, the Kaeng Phed Ped soup and the Pad Thai Hor Khai noodles. The Tom Yum soup was really good but the bowl that they serve it in is a little uncomfortable to try and scoop from when the soup is getting towards the end. It also takes a lot of space on the table. The Kaeng Phed Ped was really good! Very flavorful and the duck was very soft and not chewy which scares a lot of people away from eating or ordering duck at times. It comes with a side of rice. The Pad Thai Hor Khai noodles were slamming! It comes wrapped around in an egg and on the dish they give you crushed peanuts and sprouts to put on it. Very delicious. We got two different drinks and a beer to go with our meal. The Badura drink and the Malai. Both decent. The Malai didn't have a lot of Alcohol to me but that might be a matter of preference. Oh yeah. This is a great place to enjoy lunch. There were 6 of us and we chose to dine in. It was one of those incredibly hot days that we had in early August and just coming inside to some air conditioning felt good. As other reviewers have mentioned, it's situated on a small street just north of Houston. The street is quiet and the ambience both for inside and outside dining is really comfortable. This Thai restaurant serves food that is more interesting than most. We started with Edamame that was somewhat spicy. So good. We also had the Spring Rolls, they were delicious. Between the 6 of us we had a bunch of dishes, the stand out ones for me were Grilled Shrimp Mango, Curry Noodle and Kee Mao Talay. For dessert we enjoyed the the Mango Sticky rice. Came here with a party of 10 for a friend's birthday and was disappointed how tightly packed they had us all sitting together. Granted this restaurant is small but ideally, I wouldn't recommend this place especially if your planning to dine with 4 plus people. If anything, this restaurant should have rejected the reservation considering the number of people it was booked for. As for the restaurant, it was super dim. It created a dark ambiance but so dark that it was kinda hard to see my food properly and to know exactly what I was eating. I ended up ordering their lump crab coconut curry over vermicelli. When the order arrived, it was a complete disappointing. My dish was overly salted that it over powered all of the other natural flavor of the curry. The curry itself was watery too instead of having a creamy consistency. They only gave a small portion of vermicelli and the side salad was pretty much cut up cabbage, carrots and bean sprouts. The side salad reminded me of those cheap mesclun salad that I would see restaurants using as a filler for dishes to make it look more like a full meal. Overall I was disappointed with my dish and and dining experience. It left me feeling uninspired to return to the restaurant to try their other dishes or to even recommend this place to other people. read more

MayRee was a cute little restaurant for elevated Thai food. The food itself was good. We had a roti dish to start, as well as a green curry and (*gasp*) pad thai for mains. Many recommended MayRee so we had to give it a try! Reservation is recommended as this is a quite popular place, we saw many people waiting in line while we were dining there. Thanks to reviews from Yelp and recommendation from our waiter, we picked three most popular dishes. The fried mushroom was quite crispy and chewy; fun to snack on. For the main courses, I especially liked the duck curry, because of its tender duck meat, mixing of tropical fruits (pineapple, lychee, etc), and the flavorful curry sauce! I feel this place can serve different ambiance, romantic, friends and family, all of it. A small note, wish the service was a bit faster though. The staff members of the restaurant were nice but just a tad slow as we would wait over 10 minutes before someone came by. It is a nice little spot located next to the park with most people coming in with a date. The food was good. I one of the seasonal curry dishes that didn't list as spicy but was of course spicy given it was a red curry dish. Overall the food was good and the experience was positive. read more

(Overall: D) - This thai restaurant is located in east village, which comes with the flaws of the cleanliness. Unfortunately, a mosquito was present during my short visit and managed to bite me several times which added to the discomfort of the experience. I found the service to be nice, although a bit inattentive and the food/drinks to have hits and misses. (Tiki Tiki: A) - This drink is presented well -- it gives lily pad on an island vibes, when it was a kaffir lime leaf and lemon grass. I found this drink to be a very pleasant fruit juice; would recommend. (Pad Thai: C) - I ordered this Pad Thai mostly for the presentation, which was indeed quite interesting -- it would've been more practical is there was not a stick in the middle as I'm not sure if that's expected to be eaten or for the customer to grow a new plant. As for the actual contents, I love the forward flavor of the Pad Thai where you get the acidity, saline, and sweetness all hit your taste buds at once. pricey place but i'd say you do get what you pay for. I got the duck curry (SO YUMMMYYYYY and huge portion) and i still dream about it. with a shared appetizer between two, a drink, and a main course, it came to ~$65pp. the service was super comfortable and friendly although they were really busy. I couldn't find where to make a res online so I called and that was easy enough. the raw spicy prawns were not joking about the spice. me trying to flex by eating all the red peppers did not end well. owwww drinks were okay. we saw someone get fire in their drink so we ordered it too. taste was meh but presentation and experience 10/10!!! read more
