Absolutely loved the food here. The pumpkin curry was flavorful and perfect amount of spice. The morokot cocktail was very very good. Probably my favorite Thai restaurant cocktail so far. Very nice and cozy atmosphere. Great service as well. Would highly recommend!
Came here for dinner on a Wednesday night with a party of 4 at 730. The restaurant was crowded but we were able to get a table within 15 minutes! We were also pleasantly surprised to learn that they have a happy hour that ends at 8 pm with drinks discounted as well as discount on edamame and spring rolls (we got the rolls and they were great!) Super cute vibey ambiance. Service was quick and food came out super fast. This was one of the best Thai spots we've had in the city with great prices. We tried the: - green curry: 5/5 amazing spice level and so flavorful, comes with rice - pad kee mao- 5/5 also incredible - basil fried rice- 5/5 AMAZING spice, we got with veggies which was so good - Kra pao with pork- 5/5 this was one of our favorites -hed Tod- 3.5/5- only thing I probably wouldn't order again, needed more salt and flavor Highly recommend this spot.
A really solid Thai place in the East Village that I can see myself going back to many times. MayRee seems to focus on southern Thai food and brings on some great Thai flavors. We had the Tom Yum Goong which was delicious, one of the better iterations I've had, and the Roti Nam Kaeng which featured a rich roti and tasty curry. MayRee is pretty casual and the restaurant leans on the louder side. It's a great place to meet up with friends and eat tasty Thai food with a cocktail in hand.
On a hot humid Sunday at 1:30pm, we walked into the restaurant and were the only diners there. The place was cozy with plants and intricate Thai decors. We ordered: - Somtum Papaya salad: can't go wrong with this classic, though the fish sauce is a tad more pungent compared to other papaya salads I've had - Kaeng Phed Ped (roasted duck curry): The duck was tender, and the curry had a sweet and tangy flavor from the pineapple & lychee. - Pad Mee Kati (vermicelli noodle w/ crab meat): Solid choice. The flavor on the noodles were on the milder side, so it was a good balance. It came with egg noodles, bean sprouts, and dried chili pepper on the side, I wasn't sure if I was supposed to mix it in or it just could've been cooked together instead being placed on the side - Mango Sticky Rice: 5/5! the mango was perfectly ripe and sweet, paired with the slightly salted sticky rice and coconut sauce on the side. Perfect combo - Manee cocktail: refreshing and light, highly recommend Service was attentive and fast. One con was there's no AC in the restaurant on a 88 degree day, only fans so it was quite warm. Overall, a strong contender amongst all the Thai restaurants nearby.

I'd call this a thoughtful introduction to Southern Thai in the East Village! Dishes that lean into heat, depth, and comfort. We started with the roti mataba and gai gor lae -- both excellent openers. The roti was flaky and satisfying, and the gai gor lae delivered rich, spiced flavor that set the tone for the rest of the meal. For soups, the gai tom kamin was especially comforting, warming without being heavy. For mains, the pad kee mao with beef had good heat and depth, and the khao nar ped stood out with its layers of flavor and rich peanut sauce. One of the highlights of the meal was the paga, which really showcased the kitchen's ability to deliver bold Southern Thai flavors without feeling overwhelming. A classic Thai iced tea rounded everything out nicely and paired well with the spice. Service was warm and attentive throughout the meal. Staff were happy to explain dishes and make recommendations, which helped a lot if you're newer to Southern Thai cuisine. Food came out at a comfortable pace, and the experience felt relaxed rather than rushed. The space itself is cozy and charming -- small, intimate, and well-suited for letting the food and the story behind it shine. It's the kind of place where the atmosphere supports the meal instead of distracting from it.
This low-key Thai restaurant has quietly earned recognition, being featured in the Michelin Guide for two years in a row since its opening. Nestled on a quiet street in the East Village, MayRee offers a homey and authentic Southern Thai cuisine. In my opinion, most Thai restaurants in NYC are either "good" or "very good," and MayRee easily falls into the "very good" category, with its delicious food, drinks, and warm service. ＊Park Mor $15 ** I always order park mor, a sweet peanut steamed dumpling, whenever I spot it on the menu, as it's a rare find. It quickly became our favorite dish of the night. The chewy dumpling skin encased a peanut filling that was crunchy, sweet and savory. The dumplings were also beautifully presented in shades of blue and white. ＊Somtum $16 My all-time favorite thai appetizer. Crunchy, tangy and refreshing. Be warned--they really mean it when they say "medium spicy". ＊Kaeng Phed Ped $31** We've had crispy duck curry at several Thai spots, and this one served the most tender duck by far. The curry was addictive, with pineapple, lychee, and cherry tomatoes simmered in the rich and spicy curry sauce. We couldn't stop digging into the dish--it was that delicious. ＊Pad Mee Kati $27 It was a southern thai style sautéed vermicelli noodles, topped with lump crab meat and omelette. Not only was it picture-perfect, but it was also absolutely delicious. I especially enjoyed the thin, chewy noodles. ＊Fried Ice Cream $12 Undoubtedly a showstopper. I was stunned to see the ice cream not melting in the fried ice cream! It was coated in breadcrumbs, garnished with coconut flakes and chocolate drizzle. Then the server set it aflame, turning it into a mini fire show. The crust did have a taste of alcohol for the flaming purpose, and was a tad too thick for my liking. ＊Lychee Thai Tea $6 Very refreshing and served with real lychee. Less heavy than an actual thai iced tea because it didn't have milk in it. ＊Prysob (Mekhong rum, mango, lime, honey) $17 Our server strong recommended this cocktail to us. It was served with a slice of dried mango. Sweet and tropical. I personally disliked alcohol, but this drink was so smooth and sweet that I would have thought it was just a juice!!
Great Thai food! I loved my pad see ew. We started with the roti mataba which was good and had a really good sauce with it. We also tried a rice dumpling app which name I can't remember but it was ok. My entree was delicious. I loved my pad see ew, and I tried some of the green curry and drunken noodles as well which were all great. We were a party of 4 that walked in and had to wait maybe 10 minutes before a table was ready on a Saturday night. It was overall a great spot!
MayRee in New York, NY specializes in Southern Thai food and it's right in the LES! They have a cute cocktail bar to make some delicious cocktails to go with their delicious Thai food. They have a great happy hour! Mayree has the Thai classics along with some specials like the roasted duck curry. You can't go wrong here! This place was great! Me and my girlfriend really enjoyed it. The atmosphere was comfortable with some decent mellow music playing in the background. We arrive around 9pm and the place wasn't super crowded but all the chairs seemed to be filled. The place seats I would say around 40-50 people. Reservation aren't needed if your party is less than 6. We wanted to try a mix of everything. We started with the spring rolls and the Gai Tod Hat Yai fried chicken wings. The spring rolls were good but mid at best. The Gai Tod wings were extremely good! I highly recommend. Our main dishes were the Tom Yum Goong soup, the Kaeng Phed Ped soup and the Pad Thai Hor Khai noodles. The Tom Yum soup was really good but the bowl that they serve it in is a little uncomfortable to try and scoop from when the soup is getting towards the end. It also takes a lot of space on the table. The Kaeng Phed Ped was really good! Very flavorful and the duck was very soft and not chewy which scares a lot of people away from eating or ordering duck at times. It comes with a side of rice. The Pad Thai Hor Khai noodles were slamming! It comes wrapped around in an egg and on the dish they give you crushed peanuts and sprouts to put on it. Very delicious. We got two different drinks and a beer to go with our meal. The Badura drink and the Malai. Both decent. The Malai didn't have a lot of Alcohol to me but that might be a matter of preference. The waitress were friendly and attentive and the bathroom was clean. Overall really good spot to bring a date or eat with some friends. I hope you enjoy!
Mayree is an incredible east village destination! This warm and cozy Thai restaurant boasts friendly staff, phenomenal cocktails, and delicious food! It was an amazing experience from the moment I walked in. Some of the highlights of this visit were the roti nam keang, the park mor, and the benjawan cocktail. This is one of the better Thai restaurants I've been to in NYC, and it is certainly understandable as to why it has been included in the Michelin Guide. I will be returning soon!
No wait on a Saturday night which was great! Located on a side street, the inside of the restaurant was super clean and well decorated. The service was fast and the servers were attentive, constantly refilling our waters and asking if we needed anything. The food itself was great! Our noodle dish contained a good lump of crab, though the taste of the dish was mild, which is a bit unexpected with Thai food. Our seafood curry dish was very good and the clams were super fresh! This place was solid but the price point for Thai food was a bit high, but I guess for the ingredients used it made sense.
Absolutely amazing, the food the ambiance the service was all amazing. This is a hidden gem in the east village.

Cute little Thai spot, hidden away on a side street. The street itself feels more residential, I definitely did not expect to see a restaurant here. But the upside of that is the restaurant wasn't too crowded or loud! It is a relatively smaller space though, more suitable for smaller parties of 2 or 4. I got the Kaeng Phed Ped (duck curry) and it was quite delicious! The duck was actually very crispy and tender and didn't feel oily. The curry itself was also good, salty and just a little bit spicy. There were also a lot of fresh veggies (bell peppers) and fruits (lychee + pineapple) that cut through the saltiness that I enjoyed. I really enjoyed my experience and would definitely come back. Not giving it a 5 though because I feel like most Thai places in New York are quite good, and even though this place was also solid it didn't particularly stand out to me as exceptional. read more

I came here with my group of 4 on a Thursday night with a reservation but there was no need b/c all the tables were available. Great, speedy service but the food was pretty interesting. I don't think I had this kind of Thai food before so make sure to read the descriptions! My dish (in the photo) looked plain, but had kicks of spices. But the spice taste really gets to you with each bite, and it kind of gets hard to eat. Not because it's spicy, but it's just A LOT to take in. A bit salty too? Great drinks though! read more

This small but mighty southern Thai restaurant adds flavor to the East Village. The service at MayRee was extremely attentive and the items ordered were prepared quickly. The table ordered the following: Bacon Hor Nam (GF) Somtum (GF) Sweet and spicy fried fish (Branzino) Pad Thai Hor Khai My favorite dish was the sweet & spicy fried fish. The fish was fresh, thick, well seasoned, crispy, and HOT (right from the fryer). If you're a meat lover the Bacon Hor Nam might be something you enjoy. I wish the bacon was a bit crispier. The table decided on red & white wine, and we tried the Thai moonshine (strong!). I'm interested in trying more items from the menu. The restaurant itself has rich & cozy decor. A lot of thought went into the silverware, glasses, wall art, the bar area, and more. Mayree does not accept reservations and is a small space so I would advise visiting during off peak hours. Me and a friend decided to stop at MayRee. This a is a cute Thai restaurant and we are so happy we did. The atmosphere is phenomenal, really personal, beautiful aesthetic, great vibes and good customer service. We wanted to try a few things on the menu that we have never tried before and we were exceptionally pleased. Short review: Very good Southern Thai. Would recommend the Kua Kling/southern dry curry the most along with the Yum Hua Plee/banana blossom salad but everything was good. Perhaps would get duck elsewhere. Good cocktail selection. A bit drafty in front. I went to this newcomer Thai spot a while back (overdue review) with one of my usual groups after he had found glowing reviews and I agree with most of them. As someone who usually prefers northern Thai food, the southern stuff here is excellent. We had a mix of dishes. They have a mix of unique cocktails and I went with the Saowarat with whiskey, green tea syrup, honey syrup, lemon juice, and pineapple juice. Very nice cocktail which was strong but had a good balance from the rest of the ingredients. The rest who had drinks loved their cocktails as well. Our first dish that arrived was the Puek Tod for $13 which consisted of Taro cakes with radish, coconut, and peanut topped with fried garlic and served with house made sweet chili sauce. Nice texture for the taro cakes. Not overly fried and satisfying. Soon arriving was one of the best dishes of the night, the Yum Hua Plee for $16. This was a banana blossom salad with shrimp, ground pork, coconut milk, lime juice, fish sauce and roasted chili paste topped with fried green onion and mint. Similar to a laarb in terms of the toppings but I preferred the texture heavily from the banana blossoms. Very good stuff. The Kua (or Khua) Kling consisting of a southern style roasted curry with ground pork, kaffir lime leaf and Thai chili served with jasmine rice and fried egg for $19 was my favorite of the main dishes and this might have been the best version I have had. Terrifically spiced with a perfect amount of kaffir lime to balance out the heavy heat. Would recommend heavily. Also good was the Roti Nam Kean for $21 consisting of southern Thai style pan fried roti with massaman curry made with potato, white onion, peanut, coconut milk topped with fried shallot. We got it with chicken and it was great. The massaman wasn't as overly sweet as other spots which is quite a good thing. I would only complain that I think there should have been more of the roti. The Kra Prow (or Phat kaphrao) for $19 consisting of ground pork or ground chicken sautéed with basil, fresh chili pepper, garlic and onion in spicy basil sauce, served with jasmine fried rice and fried egg was quite good. We got ground pork and it was very nicely spiced with a good amount of basil. The fried egg had a better texture than most Thai spots and mixed in well with the rest of the ingredients. Our other main was the Kaeng Phed Ped for $27 which was a roast duck curry with pineapple, tomato, chili paste and coconut milk, served with jasmine rice. This was more on the sweet end with the pineapple almost reminding me of jackfruit which how sweet it was. Solid dish though I have preferred the duck at other Thai spots and it was probably the weakest of the dishes. Consistent excellent Thai dishes. Would prefer larger portions overall but the flavors are outstanding. My only complaint otherwise is that the front was very drafty. Mid 4. read more

Small space centered around exposed brick and small wood tables. Haven't tried much besides green curry with chicken which was pretty good. While creamy I didn't love the sweetness. Was a touch too much sugar. Also, was expecting Thai green eggplant which was subbed for purple one. While the price of lunch vs dinner was marginal (17 vs 21) I was told the dish was smaller for lunch? Can't imagine how much smaller .. read more

This review is way overdue, but is definitely needed because it doesn't seem like people are aware of just how GOOD the food is here! My partner and I visited the second or third day they opened, and honestly, we weren't expecting much. We previewed the online menu beforehand and the menu did seem interesting (and most importantly, different from the everyday Thai restaurants in NYC) so we ultimately decided to give it a go. And I'm so glad we did! We ordered two appetizers and two mains, which doesn't seem like too much for two people who eat a LOT. The appetizers we ordered were the papaya salad (somtum) and deep-fried shimeji mushrooms (hed tod). A word of caution, though, do not order the papaya salad if you canNOT handle the heat because this is authentically spiced! I was eating away at it because it was seasoned very nicely (and I still didn't come across a chili yet) and laughed at my partner because he turned steaming red from eating one. Minutes later, I ended up having a piece myself and it was NOT fun. But it was very delicious, still. The shimeji mushrooms I enjoyed a lot. My partner isn't crazy about fried foods, but even he gave it an approving nod. For mains we ordered the Pad Mee Kati and the Kao Mok Gai. Hands DOWN, our favorite was the Pad Mee Kati. We've just never had anything like it before and it blew our minds. The vermicelli noodles were SOAKED with coconut milk and gave it a deliciously ~moist~ and nutty taste. I'm drooling just thinking about it now. And the LUMPS of crab meat were fantastic. Many restaurants skimp on the amount of crab meat in their dishes, but Mayree does not shy away from it. The Kao Mok Gai was also tasty in its own way. The chicken was tender and juicy and the rice was extremely fragrant! We didn't get to try their brunch menu yet, but we're sure it would also be delicious! Can't wait to try their other dishes. read more

Overall delicious - I wish I had tried a cocktail! We were the first guests at 7:00 on a Thursday but the restaurant started filling up soon after. We started with the deep fried mushroom appetizer which was just okay, it was enoki mushroom in batter and fried with a pretty generic sweet sauce. We actually didn't finish this because it started to just taste like fried batter. The crab fried rice and duck curry were 10/10! The chunks of crab was a super decent portion and I preferred this out of the two. The duck curry had a good amount of sliced duck and curry was creamy and delicious, not to coconutty. I would've got more rice to eat it with if I wasn't already kinda full from the crab fried rice. We also got a beer and wine, and the total came to about $100 for 2 people, not bad. this is like a freaking tradition. like we go every week to east village and get thai food like bro this is so funny. but it's good thai food so i am not going to complain. i got pad thai but like it was wrapped with egg so it's not technically just regular pad thai. but it was fire. it wasn't as flavorful the goat pad thai but this was still good. i think i need to stop getting pad thai elsewhere like no where is gonna top thai way omg. so i'll start trying more ethnic thai food i guesssss. 4 stars! read more

Today I decided to stop by here since I needed some place with outdoor dining, this place was on my to try list since it opened not long ago. I ordered Khao Man Gai and Papaya Salad. Kao man gai- chicken was tender and juicy, the rice could use more ginger flavor, did not taste much. But the chicken was good. Papaya salad- sweet, fresh, tasty, very good heat. Definitely the winner. Service: the service is very good. She even gave water to my dog which i thought was a nice gesture. Overall: Between the service and the food, this place is definitely a place to watch. I will be back again if in the area. read more

Found a small Thai restaurant in East Village. It only fit around 10 tables, so if you come in a larger group be sure to make reservations or to call ahead. Service was quick and attentive, the server was very nice and accommodating. The food was delicious! We ordered the fried chicken wings with sweet chili sauce and that is definitely a must get! So crispy and juicy! We also ordered the turmeric fried rice and the sautéed vermicelli and it was pretty good. Only thing was that the food was very spicy so I didn't sit well in my stomach that night. read more

MayRee overcharges and underdelivers. It calculates tips after tax with default options above 20%, yet the service was minimal. Dishes are overpriced, portions small, and seating cramped with uncomfortable high chairs. The krapow was overly salty, loaded with fish sauce, and lacked authentic Thai long rice. The roti curry had good flavor, but the potatoes were undercooked. Overall, it's not worth the hype or price--best to avoid. read more

Overall - food is pretty great. They took traditional Thai dishes and made it slightly more nuanced (not necessarily fusion nor Americanized, not sure how to describe it). Loved the tempura mushroom and fried chicken. The skin was perfectly crispy and flavored. Drinks were slightly more pricey (Thai iced tea for $5, mocktails for $8, cocktails for $18++). Service was pretty good, only annoying thing is the tables are slightly slim so it's hard to have big groups and share plates. Would return again! read more

I enjoyed my time here. It is a very intimate restaurant - approximately 6 tables or 25-30 seats in total. Clearly the door is very central to the space so can get drafty if seated by door. They do their best to keep it out with a thick curtain which is thoughtful. It's definitely a step up from the usual takeout Thai spot as the options are more eccentric. I loved reading about the chef and the genesis of the restraints name on the website. The chef comes from a three-generation family of restauranteurs which is fascinating. The dishes are well-made and tasty. The roti was the favorite tonight! It's warm, crispy, and starchy, making it the perfect base to soak up the creamy curry. The curry was a bit salty at first taste but mellowed out over time. Only two roti unfortunately - one too few to finish the curry but you can order a side of one for $4. We had the fried chicken entree (gai tod), fried mushrooms (hed tod) and the banana blossom salad (recommended by our server). All three were enjoyable. I think the first two are very "safe" options haha it's fried food and straightforward - can't really go wrong! The salad was more of a unique regional dish with fish sauce, coconut milk etc. It was good but a bit heavy as a salad for me. All in all, I really enjoyed the meal. Two appetizers and two entrees, no drinks totaled to about $95 incl tax and tip. read more

Had somtum as a starter, then the pork kua kling and pork kra praw. Spicy, no doubt. But all the fresh flavors from the basil and the spices come together so well. Straight up these all rocked the tastebuds like you wouldn't believe. Generally these Michelin recs are hit or miss. Definitely a hit. Hype is certainly warranted. read more

Outstanding Thai ! In fact , I'll go as far as the best sit down Thai restaurant I've been to in NYC so far. It's a beautifully decorated place with outside seating. It's good for any occasion. Music was cool and the perfect level. Full bar ! And a nice bar area to boot. Check out the drink menu! I got 2 drinks and both were good. The menu is different from most Thai places I've been to. The ubiquitous chicken satay is missing from Mayree's as well as the pick your curry and protein option. Instead , they seem to have a curated menu based on what they cook best. And you'll love it all I bet. Everyone in the restaurant seemed to truly enjoy their meals. I got the chicken soup. Don't let that price of 15-16 dollars scare you away. This is one big bowl that's jammed packed with veggies and chicken ! Oh and the taste , Devine. Sour and vegetal from the lemongrass and slight spice from the ginger all cooked in a tasty and potent chicken stock. I had to get my peanut fix in the description of the peanut dumplings sounded great. Wow! Try these. I'm sad that I don't live here, because I would be here ALL the time. MayRee has everything! Amazing service, outstanding food, perfectly balanced cocktails and a very relaxed and comfortable vibe. Gigi ( sorry if I spelled that wrong) was the best part of our evening, thank you for taking such wonderful care of us. We ordered a few items to share and every dish was better then the last. So fresh and delicious, definitely made with love. If you cannot handle spicy at all they can tone it down but for us it was just right. Perfect balance between flavorful and spice, I would not change a thing. This will be my first stop whenever I am in town. It's a must try! read more

Very good Thai food! I got the Prysob cocktail and it was very delicious with a bit of fancy gold leaf. I also tried the Tom Yum soup and the Roti Nam Keang and they were very flavorful with great depth of flavor. Highly recommend trying this place out! read more
