I tried Mayuree Thai Tavern and loved it! Such a nice little addition to the neighborhood. Mayuree is a family name of the family that runs this place which just opened a few weeks ago (May 2015). The food was really excellent, and service was great, considering they are still within the soft-opening phase. If you like great Thai food, definitely check this one out. We were greeted right away by a nice man and let to a seating area up some stairs with room for around 20. The place was fairly empty but that is not surprising as they haven't done any kind of marketing yet. Our server came right by and got drink orders started. The menu is simple and has all the standard Thai goodies, but with a few new ones that I recommend. Definitely try the Papaya Salad, it is sweet and spicy. The head chef told us she hand makes it (and all of the food) based one family recipes from Thailand. I ordered Drunken Noodles (extra spicy), as I do as a rating metric from any Thai place. Well, Mayuree does a GREAT drunken noodle. Probably my favorite version of this dish ever. Get tofu, it is the best! The flavors of that dish were way better than what I was expecting from something new. I also tried some of the other dishes at the table including a really tasty Pad Thai, and a great Red Curry. There was also an awesome fish entrée. I recommend any of the above, and will be back myself to try each in their full form. Finally, for dessert you HAVE to try the homemade taro coconut custard. This dish is delectable. The layout of the place is not final, but it is pretty nice inside. They have a full bar with all of what you'd expect there, and a downstairs area they will use for lounge / entertainment eventually. I had a pretty bad experience at Mayuree -- which is bizarre, considering all of the incredible reviews and crazy hype. I showed up with 4 friends on a weekday night for dinner. The restaurant was initially full, but even as it emptied out, we had to wait a good 15 minutes for the staff to slowly clean the tables for us to be seated. None of the staff members seemed to be in the greatest of moods, and this showed throughout our time at the restaurant with the very slow service. Our group ordered a mix of curry, soup, and noodle dishes -- I ordered the Tom Yum Soup with Tofu to start with. It was incredibly bitter and sour, more so than I believe it is actually supposed to be, with like... no redeeming qualities. I sadly couldn't even finish it. For my main course, I split the Drunken Noodle with Tofu and the Green Curry Bowl with Tofu with a friend. The Drunken Noodles were... fine. The noodles were big and slimy (this is a good thing) and the dish was clearly freshly-made, but there was really no spice to the dish whatsoever, both in terms of heat and actual flavor. However, the Green Curry was the biggest disappointment of the night -- not sure if they, like, forgot to add coconut milk to the curry paste, but the dish was *literally* congealed curry paste with veggies and tofu (and really great multigrain rice that I adored, but not enough to redeem the dish). My friend and I love Thai curry in all of its iterations, but this dish was too gross for either of us to finish. So, overall, I don't think I will ever go back to Mayuree -- which is a shame, because I really thought it would win out as #1 on my search for good Thai food in Baltimore. I'm giving it two stars instead of one, though, because the restaurant is a really cool space with a nice-looking bar and chill area under the dining floor. I love spicy food, and this place did not disappoint! The drunken noodles were bomb, although the portion size was medium. Definitely could have eaten more. The curry bowls seemed to be bigger portions because they came with rice as well. The tom kha soup was good. The cocktails were creative and delicious. There was a little mixup with our order (which seems to have happened in a few other yelp reviews), but they fixed it, no issues. My only comment would be that the timing could have been better with all the dishes coming out a little more closely in time. This is definitely among the better Thai places in Baltimore and I'd return. I come here all the time! The food is amazing and they use only the best quality ingredients. All the food is authentic thai and comes out so fast. The pricing is very reasonable, the portions aren't enormous which I like since I usually don't like to have boxes of leftovers going bad in my fridge. I also love their house red and white wines for $5, if you don't like wine just ask the baternder, Andy, he knows his stuff and is a lot of fun to talk to. Every weekend after work I come here for their noodle soup, it's only $10 and it's delicious!!!!! Seriously people ...... DELICIOUS. It's also served only between 10:30 and 2 am on Friday and Saturday so it's much better than going out for greasy pizza. If you need another reason to come here they also have a game room with a pool table, dart board and vintage Nintendo that you can play with for a few bucks. Overall I love this place! The restaurant isn't too big and from the looks of it, it was probably converted over from a row house. The menu is limited, but what from what I did get to try, I enjoyed. I think we all thought - being Indian and all, that if we asked for spicy it would be like chain restaurant Tara Thai spicy, but boy were we WRONG. It was overwhelmingly spicy and at times hard to eat, but that was our faults for trying to test the limits. I had the drunken noodles and it was by far the best drunken noodles I've had in my life. I also got to try some of my friend's spicy fried fish fillet and it was fantastic as well. The menu isn't too large but I think that's good if they can make whatever they list as best as possible because there is no way a restaurant can list like 100 dishes and make them all fantastic - I'm looking at you Cheesecake Factory! I've ordered from Mayuree Thai Tavern about twice now! Their 'Fried Calamari' is to die for. It is seasoned very well and has the best sweet and sour dipping sauce to go along with it. The portion size for it is a bit small for my liking but I guess since it's an appetizer it kind of makes sense. Another hit on their menu is their "House Soy Garlic Wings" when I tell you the flavor JUMPS out...I'm not kidding! However, it may be a bit on the saltier side. Digging the long, wooden bar, we chose a spot near the door where we witnessed a constant stream of Order Up folks. I'm sure the delivery is fantastic, BUT then you would miss well-curated cocktail creations by Andy (the barkeep and all around go to guy that night) and his Aunt!!! I went out of my way to come to this place because I was really craving crispy Thai fish, and Mayuree is one of the few to have it in the Baltimore area! The staff was friendly-ish, but because we arrived later in the night (9:10, kitchen closes at 10), we were uncomfortably rushed to order. We started off with a papaya salad which was yummy as always and a tom yum soup, with which we didn't ask for shrimp but ended up getting anyway ($3 extra). Not the worst result bc the shrimp was the most scrumptious thing I had ever had. There were only 3, but they were nice, thick and juicy. Perhaps a dollar a shrimp was worth it. The Thai spicy fish fillet with the Thai three flavoured tamarind sauce was not as I expected/craved but was still very tasty - fish was fluffy and moist and the salsa-like sauce was very tasty. We also got red curry with beef, which was very disappointing - the sauce was excessively gingery. This might've been a one time thing and we got very unlucky but I'd be afraid to try again. I wish we had said something but we felt uncomfortable since the kitchen was probably closed. A lot of people mentioned the portions were too small but I think everything was reasonably sized ... my friend and I ended up over ordering, over eating and then having to take some home. read more

Very nice and welcoming place. There's only street parking and it's very limited so I'd recommend taking an uber or lyft to make things easy on you. I have been getting takeout from this place for several years but just dined in for the first time. 4 stars over the years, maybe down to 3 with today's dine in experience. The appetizers came quickly, but the entrées took a while. It seems like they get a heavy load of takeout orders. The drunken noodles are excellent, it has always had a nice (maybe a bit heavy) amount of spiciness to it. As with the takeout, the portions are a little bit small for me. Today the beef was undercooked and unintentionally medium rare... The mango sticky rice was good, but one of the orders had nearly inedible rice. Maybe it was old or microwaved for too long...? The service was friendly. The one thing they need to work on is the bathrooms. The bathrooms are quite dirty. Makes me wonder about the kitchen... I think I'll continue getting take out and just ordering drunken noodles, that I can nuke at home if undercooked, not order the sticky rice, and not think about the dirty bathrooms... 3.5 stars. read more

My favorite Thai place in Canton! I love Thai food because of the spicy, sour and sweet flavors. Although I love spicy food, I can't always handle it. Their ingredients taste fresh and have great flavors. Some of my favorite appetizers are the papaya salad and Tom yum soup. The chicken satay and steak salad are also good choices! For appetizers, I usually order the drunken noodles if I want something spicy or pad Thai if I don't. The drunken noodles can be really greasy at times. My preferred protein with the noodle dishes is shrimp, but there is an up charge for it. If I'm feeling cheap, I'll get the chicken but usually find that the chicken is tough and dry so immediately regret my decision. My husband likes their braised beef noodle soup which reminds me of a sweet pho. For dessert, the mango with sticky rice is great and so is their Thai iced tea! read more

This restaurant was highly recommended to me by a friend who said it was the best thai place in Baltimore. I stopped by with several friends to test out his theory and was pleasantly surprised. We started off with several drinks. The lemon grass martini was so strong and good. The rim was lined with pepper and gave the drink a spice to it. My friend got the Canton Iced Tea - thai iced tea with fireball and kahlua. It was the perfect combination of iced tea and fireball! In the first sip you would taste thai iced tea and then would be hit with the fireball. So perfect. As for the dishes, we started out with the: Chicken Pad Thai - Rice Noodles, Eggs, Chicken, Bean Sprouts, Peanuts and carrots/red cabbage mm. This is the dish to get! I always get pad thai whenever I go to Thai restaurants and this dish was on par with some of my top favorites back in California. Five Spice Roasted Duck - Roasted Duck with rice and steamed vegetables covered in a gravy sauce. Hm, this dish was alright. It didn't really have a strong duck taste to it and was covered with some sort of breaded fillet. I wouldn't get it again if I came here. Spicy Thai Fish Filet - Steamed vegetables and Fish filet with rice. My friend commented that " I've never seen steamed vegetables with thai food." I thought that it was alright, I would prefer pad thai over this dish though. For dessert we ordered the Mango Sticky Rice (glutinous rice with coconut milk). The mango was super fresh and juicy! I wish they had put more coconut milk sauce in the dish as the rice was a bit dry. Still a good touch to end with. Service was great and the prices weren't too steep. I've become a big fan of Mayuree Thai Tavern. This is probably my favorite Thai restaurant in Baltimore now. This place is actually clean, something that a lot of Thai places may lack. They play good music and have 3 floors of seating, a full bar, a pool table, and great decor. The service is excellent and the menu is great, supplemented by nice specials. The staples foods are very well done and carefully prepared with quality ingredients. Portion sizes are decent. Appetizers and desserts are a notch higher than those found at other competitors. They've got great Thai iced teas/coffees, as well as interesting alcoholic concoctions. Prices are also quite reasonable, especially considering the quality. Definitely coming again. read more

Appetizers: 1.) Calamari: Frozen calamari, batter did not stick, extremely chewy, and there was a bitterness to the sweet and sour chili dip. I felt as if the sauce was burnt or gone bad not too sure. 2.) Crab Cream Cheese Puffs: Not bad but I've had better. I would've like it better had the sweet and sour chili sauce didn't have that weird bitter taste. I don't recommend either one of the appetizers. Entrees: 1.) One of the best thai food joints in Fells Point/Baltimore area. Service is great, food is delicious and the ambiance is just right. There weren't any halal/zabiha options which was a bummer but hey if you enjoy seafood and tofu you cant go wrong with this place. We ordered thai tea, papaya salad, veggie spring roll, pad thai and drunken noodles and paid under $50. Parking was hard to find, probably because it was a Friday night but if you're up for a walk I'd suggest you park near Can company/Safeway and walk to the restaurant. Finally! We have authentic Thai food in Maryland. I have lived in SE Asia. They don't eat with chopsticks in Thailand. It's all about the fork and spoon. I visited on Sunday night after attending Fluid Movement's water ballet in Patterson Park. I was looking for a veggie friendly place with gluten free options. This was a win in many ways. My Yelp search was for Fells Point, but I would say it's much closer to north Canton. It's close to the Pagoda side of the park. The five parking spots in the alley were a happy find. Upon entering, it really is a tavern. However, the chalk board with That illustrations and menu specials offset that illusion. We were quickly greeted and seated in the back. The wait staff were very attentive. We were given a carafe of water and a stack of small plates and rolled napkins. Love the casual vibe! Also, food comes as it's fresh and ready. It does not sit under heat lamps. This is customary in SE Asia. Some diners might feel bad about not eating at the same time, but the delay between dishes is usually not so bad. I ordered the "Thai empanadas" which is essentially a deep fried curry puff of potato and veggies in a fragrant mild curry. These are amazing! I hope this trend takes off. I would eat these often in Singapore. Nom nom nom. Given the heat, I ordered a papaya salad. It wasn't ridiculously hot, but it had a kick. It was beautifully presented. My girlfriends ordered Pad Thai and Green Curry. The curry was a little hot for her, but she loved it. My other friend commented that it was one of the best Pad Thai dishes she's had. I prefer spice so they lost my support on that - but the green beans did add a nice crunch of texture. So overall it was good but the portions were a bit small. I feel like o get more at stang. I have had the drunken noodles (both chicken and tofu), the pad thai (both chicken and tofu), and the green curry (tofu with vegetables). The drunken noodles are the stand out to me; they are very flavorful and have a good amount of heat to them. A bit on the oily side, but nothing egregious. The pad Thai is okay, not the best I have ever had, but it gets the job done. The green curry is similar, not the best I have ever had, but satisfies a craving.
