Mazag is definitely the place to go if you're over the regular hookah joints on Steinway that are too loud, crowded and overpriced. You can actually hear one another and your belongings aren't spilling into the group next to you. It's not cramped or suffocating, and it's well ventilated. The staff here is extremely friendly (I adore Fatima!). They don't mind explaining the flavors/mixes and offer suggestions based on your preferences. They process your order really quickly and frequently change the coal. The hookah stays fresh most of the time, but it can become harsh once in a while. In that case, the staff always clear it out and don't act exasperated like they do at other places on the hookah strip, ugh. I definitely appreciate that! I don't mind the hookah needing to be cleared out once in a while since Mazag is cheaper than the other hookah places on Steinway. They have a couple of TVs with games on, and fun old school jams. There's tons of hookah lounges on Steinway but it's hard to find one that is well ventilated, doesn't blast excessively loud music, and has quality hookah. In that sense this place is rare. Most other places keep their doors closed so as the night progresses the smoke accumulates, the room gets darker and it gets suffocating. On top of that its not relaxing when the music is so loud you can't talk to anyone. None of those problems here. I had the dragon breath hookah which is smooth and minty, the Arabic coffee, and the Moroccan (mint) tea. Everything here is excellent. Guy came around several times to chance coals and blow out the ash so handed him a nice tip. read more

I've been here a couple of times now. This is just a nice chill laid back place to come and smoke some good hookah. It has a great atmosphere and the music is at a nice level where you can sit and have a nice conversation with friends without having to try to speak over it. Came in and the guy was nice. Then I ordered a hookah, had to repeat a few times to ensure he got the order right. Hookah came out and it tasted terrible. So I asked for a head change within a few minutes of having it. He went into the back and asks someone, comes back out and says head change will be $10. Obviously if I had been sitting here and smoking the head for 20-30 minutes and smoked it out then fine. But this obviously was just bad. The ambience was romantic. A dark smoky filled area, with an Arabian vibe. Lighting was dim w/ candles on table/booth. Music was Spanish and I presume Arabian. The strawberry mojito tasted virgin and too sweet. Requested a dose more alcohol lol still the same. Ordered mix kebab- chicken, beef and lamb-salad-fries-pita bread. Lamb was missing, was informed after the order that there isn't any lamb available. Smh. Four stars because the food was delicious and the ambience was intriguing. Will come again. read more
