Finally had an opportunity to eat at Mazatlan. Brought the family, party of 7. I ordered Camarones al Mojo de Ajo. It is my favorite go-to order at restaurants all over the nation. What I got here at Mazatlan...was mushrooms, onions, and shrimp. HUNDREDS of mushrooms. I mean...seriously...there was 1/2 a plate of mushrooms. If my review were based on just this one dish, it would be a one-star review and I'd never be back. Most everything else was good, and everyone enjoyed their meals. "Hit the spot" was a common comment from the family. Chips were fresh and plentiful. Margaritas were very well prepared. We had about 6 different things across the orders, and they were all prepared very well. Lots of food. Bean dip (just refried beans) served with the chips was appreciated. Friendly waitstaff. Went there yesterday the service was great, a young pretty waitress named Sara and another (don't remember her name) was awesome, they came to our table several times before during and after our meal to make sure everything was okay. Food was great, I had a steak salad, they forgot to give me salad dressing, I asked and they delivered, my wife had chicken soft tacos, my daughter had her usual been & cheese burrito. Local friends took us here last night and it was the best Mexican food we've had in Bend all summer. Forget the higher priced places around town (we've tried them all), this is good honest Mexican food with great friendly service. And their chips don't come out of a bag like the other places. I had a Poblano Chile Relleno. It was good, but a salad would have topped off the meal. Why restaurants leave out something as important as roughage or fiber is beyond me. It would be good for everyone's health! We go to a restaurant called La Casita that serves two vegetable dishes with the salsa and chips. One is a cabbage and salsa mixture. The other has carrots, onions and jalapenos. Both are very good and provide nutrients from raw vegetables. They have a very good clientele. I would never give them low marks. read more

visited Bend on a family reunion. it was our night to cook for 15 but we were tired from hiking and called around town, nobody could help with catering. Called these guys and they jumped right in and saved the day for us. I met a friend here a couple of months ago. Everything was a little greasy but overall not too bad. At the end however, we waited for almost an hour for our bill. I'm not sure if our server just couldn't tell that I was trying to get his attention or if he was purposely giving us space so we could sit together and talk but it was a REALLY long time. Overall the staff was nice and the food was pretty good but it was a bit of a turnoff to have to wait so long for our check... I recognize our server may have had good intentions but it was awkward because I didn't want to be rude to my friend and make a bigger deal about it so it would seem like I wanted to get out of there and away from her or something! But I was also exhausted and wanted to get out of there. I dunno, would have been nice to have the option to kinda take care of business in a more timely fashion but I'd come back for another try. read more

This was our second time at Mazatlan. Food was ok. What you expect from a greasy spoon Mexican place. Nothing fabulous but not horrible either. Servings are huge. Would rather normal size portions and cheaper prices. ($16 for a burrito seams a bit steep.) No one in our group finished their plate. Annoying that they give you a small bowl of bean dip with the chips but charge for refills of the beans. Service was lacking. Our last visit we had great service but not so this time. We had to continually ask for refills and felt ignored by our sever who we only saw 2x. All in all- not impressed and we probably won't be back. read more

Went here a few weeks ago expecting authentic Mexican food, or at least something resembling Mexican food. What I got, instead, was niblets of "meat" drenched in what tasted like sweet-and-sour sauce from the Chinese restaurant down the street! My husband and I ordered fajitas for two. Authentic fajitas are normally served steaming hot on a skillet platter with long strips of beef, onion, peppers, and no sauce, just whatever seasoning the veggies and meat are cooked with. What we got was a luke-warm platter of slop. The "strips of beef" were the size of Rice Crispies. The shrimp was "ok", but the whole platter was just soaked in a sauce that we'd swear was sweet-and-sour sauce. It was absolutely disgusting, and the experience left me ill for the rest of the evening. The rice was also extremely dry. Actually, dry enough to be slightly crunchy. And even the condiments tasted like they were watered down. A really disappointing experience for folks from Texas who know what good Mexican food is! I sure hope they have better items on the menu, but we won't be going there again to find out. If you go, don't waste your money on the fajitas, that's for sure. read more

We just happened upon this restaurant and everything was great, including the service. I had chicken enchiladas, which had a fantastic sauce and was topped with melted cheddar cheese. The kids and everybody raved. The salsa is spicy (which is a good thing) and they also bring out a side of beans with the chips. All and all it was a great experience. I've been to Bend (to visit my sister and her family) five times, every time we MUST go to Mazatlan. It is so delicious. I love that everything is smothered in cheesy deliciousness. The service is always great. They recognize regulars and greet them like family. The food NEVER disappoints. My favorite thing at Mazatlan is the chimichanga. It's seriously awesome. This is one of my favorite Mexican restaurants in Bend. The prices are moderate (compared to other Bend Mexican restaurants) but the food gets 8 out of 10 stars. The food is a little better at El Caporal but their prices are a lot higher also. My ex and I considered this to be "our" place. The service is excellent and so is the food. The outside of this place doesn't appear to be like your typical Mexican restaurant and we almost drove away. But the inside was colorfully decorated the "usual" festive way. I thought the prices were a bit higher than the ones where I live but I guess that's expected in Bend. It took awhile before they took our order and they weren't very busy at all on Sunday night after 7:00 pm. We received one very small cereal bowl sized chips for 3 people and it came with spicy salsa and tiny bowl of refried beans while we waited. The food came out very quickly. No refills of chips OR drinks ever came and the waitress never stopped back by after serving our food. We had chicken enchiladas and taco salad. Both were good but the chicken was a little dry and they didn't put quite enough sauce on them. I dont think we'd go back again as there are several other Mexican restaurants in the area. read more
