We came here for a conference dinner. They were great as a venue, they accommodated over 50 people, but we had to do the buffet. It was a set price for mid offerings. They provided chicken or ground beef tacos with shredded cheese, lettuce and tomatoes. Rice and beans were included with some flautas. My wife, daughter, and I visited Mazatlan yesterday after attending a religious event, so we were dressed formally. The food was excellent -- truly flavorful and well prepared. That's the reason we will return. However, the service was concerning. Our waiter (Romeolo) behaved in a way that felt unnecessarily intrusive and physically careless. He stepped on my shoe twice and left his foot there longer than seemed accidental. There were also several moments of passive-aggressive behavior from staff that made the atmosphere uncomfortable. An older staff member repeatedly asked if I was okay, while the overall treatment from the team suggested otherwise. I chose not to react because I value composure and respect, especially in front of my family. I'm not making accusations -- I'm simply stating how the experience felt. In today's world, hospitality should be consistent and professional with all families. The food is outstanding. I hope management addresses the service concerns so the experience matches the quality of the cuisine. We will be back and hope to see improvement. read more

The best part of our brunch experience was the service. Friendly and attentive. The brunch crowd definitely skewed forward the senior citizen Caucasian groupings from what I could tell. The best edible part of my meal was my sprite.i was surprised that visiting on a Sunday during their brunch buffet they didn't have any brunch drink menu or specials. My husband did a lap around the buffet table and said it offered some pretty standard breakfast fair and a few other dishes. The salsa tasted like canned tomatoes with some onion cut up in it. They had no alternative salsas. The "sauce" on my chicken taco salad was also flavorless. I kind of felt like I was at an "Olive garden" version of a Mexican restaurant which is weird because Mexican food doesn't need a "fast food" treatment to be delicious, quick and full of flavors. The salad was an amalgamation of unflavored pulled chicken, ice burg lettuce, shredded cheese, and way too many unseasoned tomatoes all in a tasty premade taco salad shell. My husband had the egg and chorizo burrito that came with smothered in cheese. He enjoyed his on draft Pacifico. I was pretty disappointed and won't be back. There is so much wonderful flavor and variety in Mexican food there is just no excuse for tasteless salsa and passionless ingredients. Too bad because they have a great location. read more

Instacart messed up my delivery order on Easter, so I call the restaurant to add what didn't get attached. They needed my signature on the card for payment, as Uber Eats, the delivery party, wouldn't do it or couldn't do it, so the Mazatlan manager paid for it our of his pocket and wished me God bless. We were in the area visiting a friend and I was in the mood for some chicken tortilla soup. We saw this restaurant and decided to stop in. What can I say? It was a disappointing lunch. The complimentary chips were fresh and good, the salsa had the appearance and consistency of tomato soup with a little chunks of tomatoes in it. Never had salsa that bad before. Ordered the chicken tortilla soup and was excited for it since I was looking forward to it. OMG. It was horrible!! It was very diluted with bits of grilled chicken in it and lack any flavor. I wouldn't mind paying $14.99 for a bowl of soup, but at least it should be enjoyable. (Costco has better tortilla soup then this place). My husband ordered the deluxe tostada salad. It didn't look appetizing therefore I didn't try it. He said it was difficult to enjoy because it was very liquidly. We've been dining at Mazatlan for years. We just moved from Everett and used to patronize that location. It's a family-run chain of restaurants in this area. The food is just okay. Apparently they use the same recipes and ingredients across locations, but it doesn't taste quite the same down here. My go-to is the kids meal enchilada with pinto beans inside of the enchilada (meat isn't my thang), add avocado, and a side of corn tortillas. The enchiladas are just average. The avocado adds a nice creamy topping- especially with a touch of sea salt. You can't order a kid's meal online using their order system- it's not listed. You need to call to order that. The enchiladas are gluten-free. I've never had a reaction but I don't have celiac- I'm just NCGS/non-celiac gluten-sensitive. The chips and salsa are good. The salsa tastes like it does at the other Mazatlan locations- spicy and chunky. Sometimes they give you a confusing amount of chips- like half of a very small bag with four entrees. Like. Whut? My husband gets three chicken enchiladas with rice and beans and he says it's solid. It had been a while since we were able to make it to this location. Since our last visit, they have maintained their previous level of great service, food quality and taste. In our opinion they have actually exceeded previous experiences. If you're into spicy margaritas, definitely give the jalapeño margarita a try, it was wonderfully spiced with a Tajin rim. The Carne Asada was perfectly seasoned with nice crispy edges. We also think that the refried beans are some of the best we've tried in the area. We also tried the Authentic Chile relleno, and it was delicious, a bit lighter on the cheese would have been better but the flavor was rich and deep. Looks like the restaurant itself has been refurbished a bit, and it was beautiful inside. Big comfortable booths and fresh paint with gorgeous murals. We are new to Puyallup and have been seeing the huge Mazatlan sign as we have navigated around our neighborhood. We decided to go in for lunch and were immediately greeted by a really nice hostess. She sat us down and made short conversation. Not long after being seated we were given chips and salsa, water, and just constantly checked on by the servers which I thought was awesome and very thoughtful! The salsa was a little lacking in that the consistency was very soupy. Enrique was our main server and displayed superior customer service skills! My fiancé ordered the Chile verde chimichanga. He had no complaints and enjoyed it! I ordered the Chile verde with flour tortillas and man, I've never eaten homemade tortillas before but I think these were homemade. They tasted so fresh and just so good!!!! I feel that the Chile verde could've been seasoned a little more but the overall tenderness of the meat was just great. Enrique also recommended a mango margarita to me and when he asked if I wanted a grande size, I said sure. Man! That thing was bigger than my head!!! Absolutely amazing! We are extremely new to the area and we were in search of some comfort food... our server, Martin, was amazing and made us feel right at home. Even in the wake of having to deal with some really rude and obnoxious customers that were giving him along with other staff a really hard time, he managed to bring out my new "go to" dish enchiladas and eggs. Firstly, the staff deserves a thousand stars! They were incredible!!! Very attentive. Very professional! Second, the food. That's where three stars were removed. It was not fresh or tasty. It was all covered in melted cheese so that's all you tasted. The tamale (drowned by red sauce and cheese) hardly had any beef in it and what it did have was so tough and dry it was inedible. The Flautas had been fried to death and were burnt (meat was also fried to death). The beans had a funny tang to them. The rice had almost no seasoning. It was Mother's Day and I ended up picking Mexican food to go. I ordered the carne Asada fajitas and the chicken chimichanga combo with shredded beef enchilada. The steak had really good flavor and was wonderful! The chicken chimi was awesome but the shredded beef kind of tasted like carrots.. over all very good flavors and portions. The only negative was our bill was over 40.00 for two meals and they don't include chips and salsa we had to pay for it. I've alway been a fan of their but I must say after dining in today with my family. We most likely won't be back. The table we sat at had a leaking ventilation. We were already tired and just ready to eat so instead of waiting to find another table we just used the container that the tortillas came in as a safe spot for the leaks to drop on. As a business owner I feel we should of gotten some type of discount for putting up with it but we didn't. I've been coming here for years off and on but took a break after a few disappointing meals. It must have been longer than I thought, new staff, new paint, new menu... Our server was wonderful, very friendly. There was just a good vibe all around. Our food was delivered very quickly. We had Mexican pizza and it was delicious. I am sorry I normally don't write bad reviews but I got sick 5 minutes after I left the restaurant I barely made it to the restroom at south hill.
