Torrance Food Crawl #435 Market Broiler's MB Grille opened their first restaurant in Riverside CA in 1989, and the chain has since expanded to seven restaurants here in Southern California. The menu has a wide selection of seafood items and some non-seafood choices for those who aren't in the mood for seafood. The best item I've had was the Fisherman's Stew. In a slightly spicy tomato broth, it was packed with seafood, lobster, clams, crab, calamari, mussels, and linguini. Very tasty. Sometimes, I've found restaurants take liberties with the amount of seafood in a typical fisherman's stew, but not here. The portion size was large with lots of seafood. I was hungry that day and finished it off, but I imagine someone with a smaller stomach might find themselves taking some of it home, which isn't bad. Another item I liked, Harvest of the Sea, was not a soup but a linguini dish with various seafood items and a collection of mussels on the side. Compared to the stew, this was a more normal portion-sized item and an appealing combination of Italian and seafood elements. I've had numerous other items, and they've all been good. We happened upon Mb Grille by using Yelp and looking at the reviews. I have a ton of food allergies and I so appreciate our darling waitresses, Dayana and Kelly. They listened to all of my food allergies and the kitchen ensured my meal was cooked on point! I had the Create your own Combo (Halibut and Filet) with fresh vegetables and red potatoes. My husband had a tuna roll. Our food was delicious, cocktails refreshing, and service outstanding. We are visiting from out of state. Will definitely return if in the area. 2nd Update: I am pleased to say that I received a generous gift card from the Manager at MB Grille (Torrance, CA). I invited the same group that was with me for the not-so-great experience. I'm also happy to say that our experience this time was much, much better. The steak was seasoned and cooked as requested (medium). The halibut and sea bass were also nicely seasoned and well cooked. We did stay away from the 'create a combo' due to the protein portion sizes we encountered last time. When ordering a single protein, the portion size is much more appropriate for the price. I did a combo to protein two side and that's what this is. I thought it was supposed to come at four oysters cause that's what I saw on the menu. Maybe I guess not with the combo?? And I think maybe was it even a combo I think it was like make your own create your own type of thing, but still I thought it was supposed to come with four oysters, but it looks good and I already tasted it. The shrimp is very flavorful. I believe I probably went during a unpopular or weekday time. I was taking mine to go anyway wasn't a lot of people nevertheless the service was good for the to go and the lady who worked the front. Simply amazing. We entered the restaurant and were greeted by Selena who was gracious and friendly. She took us to a nice window booth in the enclosed outdoor patio and fired up the overhead heaters upon request. Next we met Ezekiel who was very kind, hospitable and professional. He brought water and shortly thereafter some warm and tasty sourdough bread. We then ordered margaritas. I had a few Cadillac margaritas and my wife had a frozen one. We ordered the tempura roll and a house salad as appetizers. Everything was fantastic. Then my wife ordered the halibut entree and was so happy she did as she loved the dish. The perfect place to dine in to feel like you're having your east coast summer!!! We came here for dinner on a Wednesday night and it was not hard to get a table for a medium sized group. It was golden hour when we arrived and some of us were sitting directly in front of the sun. Thankfully they were able to bring the shade down without us even asking :). Parking is convenient (free parking up Close) Making a reservation is convenient especially if you are coming during peak hours or have a large group The menu is convenient (one of my girlfriends is on a strict diet and wanted salmon. I don't eat seafood but there was still a bunch of things for me to pick from) They also have a really nice outdoor patio area that is covered with a fireplace and nice comfortable booths and chairs We had an amazing server named Ivan(seriously, 10 stars for Ivan). He was great, in fact, everyone there was great. Except, halfway through our meal he said he had to clock out and our waitress would be taking over. She never came to our table once. Never. No drink refills, not asking if we needed a box, didn't bring our check or anything. I finally had to ask one of the guys who came to take our plates away (he was great also) if he knew who our waitress was and if he could send her out because we have no idea who she is and nobody has been helping us. Instead he sent the manager over who was extremely apologetic and friendly. They feature a great happy hour and the staff was friendly up until the whole mix up. With that being said I would still be back and give them another chance (We even got free shrimp for checking in. I don't eat seafood but my girlfriend loved it) I also want to note, I am allergic to seafood AND I hate the smell. Wow. Third time here overall, second dinner. We had a reservation for Father's Day. We still waited about 5-10 minutes to be seated when arriving on time. Which isn't exactly horrible. We got seated and I preferred water for the evening but my glass was empty for awhile for majority of the evening. So the refilling of water was very slow. I think the manager might've came by once to fill my glass once. Next, I ordered the lobster ravioli. What a disaster. I kid you not, the first ravioli I cut into had NO filling. It was just the pasta. Mind you they give you 5 large pieces of ravioli that is suppose to have the lobster filling. I checked the other 4 they were fine, just the first one was pasta, no filling. I sent it back and got a new plate. Now the other mistake is on me because I don't like asparagus and mushrooms and that's exactly what the ravioli was sitting on. The flavors were not for me; I only ate the pasta and left everything else there. It wasn't flavor forward, and the sauce itself had a film to it, probably from a lot of cheese being used. I would not order this again. The asparagus almost gives me the taste of capers, it's such a weird flavor I can't describe it other than I'm not the biggest fan. We ordered dessert. The butter cake and lava cake. I have NEVER experienced marshmallows on a lava cake. Please, remove this addition. I'm a lava cake fanatic and I was taken back when they dropped off the cakes and I saw marshmallows on it. Save that for s'mores related desserts!! The lava cake was perfectly good without it. Also they dropped off the desserts with NO spoons. We sat there waiting to flag someone down to ask for spoons. So I was just watching the ice cream slowly melt and drip down the sides of the cake until we got someone to hand us spoons. This place is honestly only good for happy hour. Their appetizers are the only thing I enjoy. They're simple enough to not mess up. Otherwise I genuinely will not be coming back here for dinner, I've already been back twice after my initial "meh" experience. Another visit to MB Grille on a cold and rainy evening. 6:15pm reservation made through Yelp . Parking was challenging. Hostess just went through the motions but didn't have any energy at all. Sad. Food was delicious. We got their delicious sourdough bread which was warm and yummy. No pic because I attacked it as soon as it arrived. We ordered the fried calamari, which is a @yelp check in reward, thank you. It was plentiful, hot and fresh. We then had the Thursday special "Shrimp Feast" with 3 different types of shrimp and your choice of 2 sides. Very delicious. This restaurant passes the credit card transaction fee directly to the customers. When I asked why, they said management told them it was a new California law requiring them to do so. This is not true. It's part of the cost of doing business for restaurants, and as a frequent diner I've never seen another restaurant do this. It's penny wise and pound foolish. Was at the mall and decided to try this new place out. We were seated in the patio which is beautiful and although it was chilly, they had heat lamps that made it tolerable. Diego was our server and came to greet us right promptly. We gave our drink order and started off with a wedge salad. Drinks came first and they were extremely tasty. The pineapple margarita and spring fling are tasty without being too sweet. Our entrees were next, the skinny surf and turf and the salmon with lobster cake. When i first saw the shrimp i was not impressed. However, the flavor really surprised me and it was very delicious. The filet was cooked perfectly and they were able to replace the rice with double veggies. My partner ordered the salmon which was perfectly cooked. It was so flavorful and the lobster cake did not need any sauce. It held its own. We checked in on yelp and were able to get a comped coconut shrimp which again was very good. The coconut sauce was too sweet for me but my partner loved it. The shrimp didnt need the sauce in my opinion. The food was really good. The ambiance was very relaxing with the tvs and fire places. Our server Diego was good, however, he was mia towards the end of our meal. We were sitting for a while after we had finished our meal. There was only one other party next to us and we didnt see any staff come our way form some time. No Diego, no busser, nobody and i was about to get up to ask for our check when we saw Diego. I will definitely be back because the food was good and i understand them being new they may be working out the kinks with service. My family is a big fan of Market Broiler Restaurant, so when we saw that they were opening a similar concept from the same company at Del Amo, we had to try it out! We were seated immediately on a Friday night around 8pm. The interior is open and spacious with a bar towards the front of the restaurant, and booths and tables past the bar. I love that Market Broiler/MB Grill always brings out hot, fresh sourdough to eat while you're waiting for your food! It's also soft on the inside and with a crunchy crust. Perfect when you slather it with butter and it instantly melts because it just came out of the oven! Can you tell how much we enjoy the bread?! For starters, we got the Shrimp and Crab Flautas. These have crab, shrimp, and pepper jack cheese inside of crispy flour tortillas. Then it's drizzled with an avocado crema and served with a side of salsa. We were surprised just how good these were! We also got the Traditional Calamari which had a light and crispy batter, served with cocktail sauce. The Local Beet Salad was also good. It came with baby greens, feta cheese, candied walnuts, red onion, and a lemon thyme vinaigrette. For entrees, I got the Salmon Oscar. The salmon was simply cooked with a lobster cream sauce on the side, and on top was a lobster-crab cake! It's served with a side of their cheesy potatoes and asparagus. Not bad, but the real star was their Pan Seared Fresh Halibut! Oh my goodness, this dish was SO good! Highly recommend. It's parmesan crusted with a roasted lemon butter sauce, capers, and green olives. Rich, savory, and delicious! It also comes with those cheesy potatoes, as well as both sauteed spinach and char-grilled asparagus. Takeaway: get the Shrimp and Crab Flautas and the Pan Seared Fresh Halibut! read more

Does appear to get busy, but the service is okay (seemed a bit understaffed like everywhere else these days), Happy hour seems to have some decent appetizers and drinks...especially the shrimp & crab flautas and the spicy salsa that comes with them. Lemon drop was pretty tasty as well. Certain dishes lack flavors though, such as the jambalaya with linguini. Extremely bland. Literally all you taste is the pasta, the sauce was not cutting it. I took the majority home as leftovers (because I paid for it) and even on the second day once the flavors had gotten to know each other...it STILL needed a major boost! I added red pepper flakes and a little "Tony's" and it was slightly better. Although the complimentary warm sourdough loaf and butter is delicious...I'll probably pass on a second visit. read more

This establishment is located inside the huge and fashionable Del Amo mall near the Borders store. Parking is generally packed as I had to park near the Chase bank. This place has an outdoor and indoor section but the outdoor section is nice due to the ceiling heaters. Though it's mostly fish entrees, they do have a filet mignon dish which is what I ordered. It cost $48.07 (includes tax and tip). I really like how you can customize the two sides that come with it; I got the chef's vegetables and grilled asparagus. I would say that the chimchurri sauce was the best part of the meal. The meat itself was a bit too salty for my liking and it wasn't as tender as other filet mignons I've had. However, the service was nice and the atmosphere was neat. This is one of those places that you'd take a business client out to. read more

I wanted to take my aunt and uncle to a rooftop restaurant by the ocean, but they didn't want to go because they said it was too dark, too far and probably too cold, so we ended up at this Torrance mall. They (and I) have never been to MB Grille so we thought we will try it. I checked into the Yelp app and found out that we can get either a free calamari appetizer or the Coconut shrimp appetizer, so they were excited about the free app! Lol. I told my uncle that if he visits me in SF, I will make sure to take him to Boudin for clam chowder in a Sourdough Bowl since he loves it. MB Grille has the clam chowder but we didn't order this here. We got a side Cesar Salad but none of us like it. Next, we ordered the crab and lobster cake. This was just okay. Nothing really special. We also got the shrimp scampi and this was also disappointing. Not very lemony. The Chilean Sea Bass dish came piping hot in a small casted iron and probably our favorite dish! HH has a lot of options - he enjoyed 4 rounds of oysters, and I tackled the fish tacos. The tacos were good but you have to eat them fast or the fish will get cold. If only there were some kind of contraption that would keep food hot after it's served, wouldn't that be swell? The oysters were darn tasty, but they are not served with mignonette, now you know. I like sitting in the bar area - it's semi-open air and with our gorgeous so Cal weather there's nothing not to love. Plus it's the only area where HH is offered. When the weather changes, the breeze pretty much cools things down a lot, again, now you know. Mall parking is often challenging and now that the holidays are here, make sure you plan accordingly...especially at peak dining hours. Someone once said that it takes on average, about 9 minutes to find a parking space on a busy day. I've timed it, I'd say that average is pretty darn close. Fantastic HH prices and a pretty epic HH menu - you'd be hard-pressed to not find something that tickles your fancy. Service during HH was superb, even with a large party of 10 near us.
