This particular McAlister Deli is located in the same shopping plaza as the Publix in Bessemer, Alabama. With it being in a shopping plaza, parking was not really an issue. Walking in, the atmosphere is pleasant enough and my server was friendly, professional and overall made my dining experience significantly better. I went for the reuben. The reuben is a deli classic and I will also say that it has been one of the sandwiches in my favorite sandwich list. Come on, we all have a favorite sandwich list (don't we?). By the way, if you are wondering, a sub would be at the top of my favorite sandwich list (and a favorite sandwich list is something we all have). I cannot say that this reuben was the best reuben that I have ever had. I cannot even say that it would be in my top reuben list (okay, I really don't have one of those lists...yet). We were never greeted to take our order nor thanked for placing our order. There were no smiles from the cashiers nor did they offer any help. We waited on our food and when they brought it out they just handed it to us. No response. Ask for more ice attendant acted like I ask for blood. I would like to start by saying that I have had multiple bad experiences with this McAlister's. Today I went in and bought my normal meal and asked for extra bacon which I paid for. When I received my meal there was no extra anything on the plate which I had paid for. I took the plate back up to the cahier which there was a manager standing next to it. I explained this was not what I paid for the manager was trying to do her best. The workers in the back were expressing how tired that they were with me complaing about my order not being correct and was very rude not only for me to hear for everyone else. I explained to the manager I just would refund it and go somewhere else due to it does no good to complain to management because nothing gets done. I have never eaten at a McAlisters before, but thought it sounded good and wanted to give it a try. The restaurant appeared clean when we walked in. There was a wait of about 5 people in front of us and it seemed to take forever to even order. The menu looked good and we chose the Horseradish Beef and Cheddar, the Memphian, and the Grilled Chicken Caesar Wrap for carryout. After we ordered, it again took forever to get our food. I saw the food be placed in the order window a while before it was bagged and given to us. (I knew that it was ours because we had 3 Mac and cheeses.) There was only 1 girl bagging and getting food out. One girl was intermittently taking orders and walking around, but not helping get food out. Out of all the sandwiches we ordered, the wrap was the best. I wouldn't recommend the Beef and Cheddar at all. It was terrible. The other sandwiches were just ok. Overall, the staff was nice, but I wouldn't go back. With so many other choices in the area, we'd choose somewhere else to eat. read more

Crazy week at work and decided last minute to get to go at McAlisters. Boom!! Hit jackpot today! Free tea day I got there at 5:30 and even though the lot war dull, they had enough cashier's I had no wait :)) Megan patiently took my order. They always have some new and flesh in menu. Yiu pick2 is my favorite so I can have vanity. We got the new black cherry spinach chicken salad, black cherry turkey sandwich and smokehouse turkey. Came here on a Sunday with a group of 7 total. Parking: Plenty of parking for the amount of tables and space on the inside plus the other businesses located in the same proximity. (4-star) Cleanliness: Overall the restaurant is very clean. Staff seemed quick to clean off tables and make sure there was space for other people coming in. (4 - star) Menu: Consists of salads, sandwiches, variety of baked potatoes, soups and a couple different desserts. Overall good variety of specialty type menu items. What I like about McAlister's is the choose two option that they offer. You can pair your choice of salad, sandwich, soup or potato. They give you a half size portion of any of the two items you have selected. Portions are more than generous and filling. Food quality has always been good at any location and this one is no different. Went with the Horseradish Roast Beef and Cheddar. A warm melt sandwich (kind of lite on the horseradish and kick...but still good) and the Spud Max which is filled with a little of everything (bacon, black olive, onion, cheese, sour cream, etc). Also, if you're a fan of tea they have a pretty loyal fan base that likes both the sweet and unsweet (they also have free tea day in the summer). (4-star) Staff: This is really where things fell apart and took a downward turn. They were all friendly, but service was on the slow side. Took a long time to get orders in (order at the counter type place). Once we had placed orders the really long wait began. Three people had arrived early and already placed their orders and had their food. It took about 30 minutes for three of us to get our orders. The last person's order got lost and it took another 10 minutes for that order to come out. Overall wouldn't prevent me from coming back (and maybe getting a chance to update this review). (2-star) Overall this place is a solid three star and could be easily improved to a 4-star with a little extra effort. read more

We stopped her for lunch on a road trip with My wife and 3 kids ( all 6 and under). I promptly spilled my entire ice tea. Everyone was so nice and helpful. The food came fast! TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE , I went to this location on yesterday to do curbside pickup as they offer on the sign in front of the restaurant. When called I was placed on a "brief" hold and whoever answered hung up. Their curbside is through Postmates , as postmates were giving me updates the RUDE curbside employee told me they didn't have an order they just cook the food he didn't tell me if they were working just threw his hands up like he didn't care , Chris was his name. I don't have McAlister's often, but decided to stop by because of convenience. I placed an online order for an avocado BLT and a potato. The food was great and customer service was phenomenal. I made a small mistake when ordering online, but the staff helped fix that issue without hesitation.All covid guidelines were strictly followed, masks were worn properly by all staff in sight, and condiments, silverware, and napkins were kept behind the counter to reduce contact. Although, a lot of things were recyclable, plastic bags and straws are still being used, which is pretty typical for most restaurants. I often go to this McAlisters when I am in the mood for something healthier than a burger. I was greeted by the staff and more order was quickly taken. I did not have to wait long in the seating area when someone actually brought my food to me. The dining area seemed to comply with COVID-19 precautions by making sure customers had adequate spacing in between waiting lines and dining tables. I went this past Sunday night at 7:30pm and had a terrible experience at this McAlister's deli. When I arrived the employees had a section of the restaurant closed off and had already mopped that section of the restaurant. While I was sitting there eating an employee started putting up chairs on top of the tables all around me and the guests sitting around me. They also got the rug and was shaking it out the front door while people were still coming in and eating in the restaurant. NASTY NASTY NASTY!!!! The cheese dip had to be a week old and made me gag!!! A taste I will never forget! There was a hair in my water and the water tasted like dirt, the 4 cheese grilled sandwich was not cooked all the way and the cheese in the middle looked like magots! I DID NOT eat it after crunching into the cheese dip from last week they reheated! They screwed up the baked potato and didn't cook it all the way either! The booth was dusty, so they don't clean properly! Please save your money! WILL NEVER EAT AT THIS SICK PLACE AGAIN! My mistake was getting the po boy. Way too much slaw on it. Not to mention too much remoulade. The shrimp were good but you had to taste them alone. Way too much of everything else. Deli/sandwich shop Atmosphere - Nicely decorated sandwich shop. Clean with indoor and outdoor seating. Staff - Friendly Food - The sweet tea has an after taste I just don't like. The sandwiches are great IF you get what you ordered. If you order a large amount for a party or something on 1 ticket it will be wrong or have things missing. The online ordering should make this simple but it never seems to work out. At least they are quick. In the end the food is good just not always what you want. read more

McAlister's never disappoints on food quality, and today was no different. Their salads and sandwiches are always fresh, delicious and heavily (maybe too heavily!) portioned. Today, however, we got to experience their excellent customer service as well. One of the ingredients in my sandwich had run low during a busy lunch rush and the manager was very proactive in informing me and offering something to snack on while they prepped more.
