Stood in line at 6:45 on a Wednesday evening for 15 minutes without any movement. The people at the register seemed like they were just learning how to run it. I wasn't in any particular hurry, so I just went across the street to the gas station for some drinks for my hotel stay. I came back and the line had not moved at all and actually grew. There was a gentleman there waiting for his food for 45 minutes and the place was maybe 1/4 full. I'm not sure if what is going on here but they need to make a change. read more

I ordered food an hour and a half before they closed and they tried to say that they were closed. After I orders my food I got a soup with my order. When we got back to the hotel room we had no soup and both of the sandwiches I ordered were supposed to be warm were cold. They were hot sandwiches mind you. So we go back and ask just for the food to be remade. And they kept asking what was wrong with the food and took 15 minutes to remake the food. And when I asked about the soup the lady said that they didn't have any. But she had no problem charging me for something they didn't have. read more

Tried McAlisters in Carlsbad after a 12 month hiatus due to terrible service. Ordered some food to go. My son picked up the order and when we got the food home here is the verdict: Ordered two soup bread bowls: soup came in cups no bread. No plastic utensils included in the order. The food itself was fine no issues with it. I called the store to ask about the bread bowls. After explaining what had happened the girl that answered the phone asked me to hold on and then hung up on me. Called back twice more and the same thing happened. I decided to drive over to the store and was told that there was nothing they could do and that I would have to come back next week when their manager was available. The crew working seemed more concerned about gossiping and texting on their phones. Once again McAlisters in Carlsbad is a disappointment. read more

I've been here over 30 minutes and just ordered. It's not packed, only a few people. Every employee is on break i guess. 1 register working. 10 people walked in behind me and i feel bad for them. I'm not sure why the reviews are so negative, I come here daily when working in Carlsbad, and have never had a bad experience. As expected with a town near an oil field, you expect wait times to be a little longer than usual. The staff is friendly and the food has been delicious. The restaurant is clean. If you don't want to wait inside, call ahead and go through the window where you just pick up the food. I'd recommend calling about 30 minutes ahead to be safe, since it is always busy. read more

My family (wife and an 8, 5, and 2 year old) went here tonight because we stayed at the neighboring Holiday Inn Express. While ordering, the cashier was interrupted twice by another cashier who was apparently training. No prob there - learning by doing is the best way. Our order wasn't complicated at all - 2 kid's meals and 2 regular sandwiches. I paid and took my drinks and my number and returned to the table. The kids started to get restless (we were tired after a long day of driving from San Antonio) so after having waited 25 minutes and seeing it her people who ordered right before/after me get their orders, I questioned the cashier who took my order. I let her know I had been waiting 25 minutes and she said she would check on it and let me know. 5 minutes passed, and we had made the decision to leave. I asked her again what the problem was and she said "I'm going to be honest with you - we've got a lot of new people in the kitchen and they don't know how to make some sandwiches" (among the sandwiches in our order is the ever-difficult yet personally rewarding PB&J). She offered to send the manager out, and the manager came out looking very stressed. She didn't offer an apology and I told her I wanted a refund and to cancel the order. She argued that it was almost ready but I told her we weren't waiting another minute and she gave me a receipt which she claims illustrates a refund - that's yet to be seen. What annoyed me most with this crew was that never once did they come out to apologize or explain the wait time or offer the kids the bagged chips from their meals. Nothing. I heard a local guy mention the store couldn't keep anyone hired very long, and that's evident. Corporate needs to step in here and sort things out. Side note: the men's bathroom was filthy. Dirty sink, toilet, and trash can overflowing with used paper towels. read more

My family ordered on Door Dash a couple of months back and we really weren't expecting too much but we really enjoyed a lot of the food they offered. The macaroni and cheese is really good and creamy. The baked potatoes are fun to try the different types of spuds they have. The various salads they have are also really good. They have always provided great food both through DoorDash delivery and through the traditional dine in experience. I actually have never ordered through the pick up window but always see a lot of cars utilizing that offering so I can always tell that other people must enjoy as well it if the line is doing well! The broccoli cheddar soup is also one of the favorite soups I've had. It is kind of like the one that Panera Bread offers if have ever tried that but I think I actually like McAlisters better! read more

Thing was I was tired and just wanted to eat and read my book. The sandwich was bland and the au jus was flavorless, the only good thing about the meal was the sweet tea. I don't understand how this place is still in business. We got into the drive thru line thinking it would be quick. Uh...that was a big mistake. After being in line for 15 minutes we were already blocked in so we couldn't get out of the line. There is no menu for the drive thru. What?! After over half an hour we arrive at the window where they both take your order and your money. After I gave her my order for 3 sandwiches she said the wait would be another half hour to an hour. So to summarize, it was going to be an hour to an hour and a half to get my order from the time we pulled into the drive thru. That's insane! There were only like 6 cars in front of us when we arrived. Needless to say unless you have an extra hour or so to kill, stay away from the drive thru! read more

Well as you can tell we in CarlsBAD, don't expect much, you'll only be disappointed. Went in for a quick dinner. The greeter was awesome, reminded me of sensational Chick Fil A, and it stopped there. Lady took our order, asked if we wanted pickles; we both said yes. Now the waiting n waiting n waiting. After about 15/20 minutes I asked if everything was ok with our order, lady said it would be right out. Keep in mind there are only 3 other tables at approximately 7 pm. Our food finally arrives about 10 minutes later, putting it to a total over 30 minutes. The server places our food down and I told her it took over 30 minutes to receive our food. Her dear in the headlight spoke volumes!!! She was absolutely clueless on response or training for quality customer service or even an apology. Her response: yeah, we had a lot of to go orders. How is that my fault!? It's the new America: No One Cares!!! My sandwich looked like something out of a Willy Wonka miniature factory while the Mac n cheese was cold. My companions food was also luke warm n tiny portioned. Anyway, be prepared for non existent service and poor service and extended wait times. Tried again. Ordered two bowls of soup and a half sandwich before a movie. Been here 25 minutes. Restaurant was empty when we got here. People that ordered after us have eaten and left. Went to the counter to ask about our food and the girl at the register said she would check in it as soon as she finished fixing the register. Then she delivered food to yet another family that came in long after us. I went to the register and asked for a refund, and now that I'm sitting at the theater, I realize the receipt for the refund was just a reprint of the original receipt. As much as I have loved McAlister's for many years, I won't be returning to the Carlsbad location. And now I will have to call corporate for my refund. I made an order using DoorDash today, and I'm left feeling half-satisfied. Don't get me wrong, everything tasted good...I ordered the "choose 2" with half a sandwich and a cup of soup. No complaints on the broccoli cheddar, but my "half" of a club sandwich was sized like it was meant to be served at a tea party for 5 year olds. Literally 2 bites and it was gone. Both my friend & I were anticipating normal-sized portions, which is why he only ordered a side of fruit & a side of Mac n cheese. They arrived each in one of those clear plastic condiment cups with lids...granted, once we looked at the receipt we saw that each of the "sides" only cost around $1.50, but DoorDash didn't list various sizes of sides. It would've been crazy to order 3 sides of Mac n cheese and 3 sides of fresh fruit, but that's what it would've taken in order to actually feel sated after this "meal". All in all, while the TASTE was good, the tiny portions left a bad taste in our mouths (pardon the pun). read more

Only had one person taking orders. Thirty-minute wait for food. Saw several leave before ordering due to wait times and all tables sitting dirty. We cleaned our table to have a place to sit. Toothpick that was supposed to be holding sandwich halves was hidden in the middle of the sandwich and cut in half. Obvious the cook had to make several attempts at cutting sandwich due to marking in the wood. Potato soup was served barely like warm. Returned soup and never got an apology, would you like something else or the soup heated and returned. This is the second time in three months to have under temperature food served. I generally like this place, and the food was good, granted it was 9:40 P.M. but the floor was nasty and has not seen hot water or soap since the building was built. My table was disgusting yet was still damp from just being whipped down. And stuck in the moisture on the table was a baby Roach which are usually born by the hundreds at a time. The manager of this place need a few lessons in, cleanliness is next to godliness. My experience has taught me that if you're house is a dump so will thought business. This guy has never participated in an Army GI party, but needs ones at this texturally badly. read more

Worst McAlister's visit EVER! Why we waited 30 minutes for soup and salad is beyond comprehension; especially when the restaurant was empty! Management needs help and further training on how to lead a team and push food in a restaurant. When it all finally came it was cold, the bread was stale and my salad was full of old wilty lettuce and it came with the lettuce stalk. We usually enjoy McAlister's, just not this one and thankfully we were just visiting. Awful read more

If you are gluten free and vegetarian, this is NOT the place for you. The only items offered that I could eat were their salads and the baked potato. I don't like salad. The potato is enormous, but they are meager with the toppings of cheese and "vegetarian chili". (It's just another name for chili beans.) My friend ordered a reuben sandwich. He said it was so heavy and dense and tasted like chemicals. We tried it twice, just to see if we caught them on a bad day. It was identical both times... just as bad.
