Today after a very long time, I decided I wanted to have pancakes for dinner. I went to Cracker Barrel of Elizabethtown, KY. My wait was approximately 40 minutes. As I was escorted to my table, I noticed we walked past Area 1 then Area 2 with empty tables. I was seated in Area 3 of the restaurant. The very back. There was already an elderly couple (Caucasian) seated so I did not think anything of my later observation. I ordered and as I was alone, I took advantage of the time waiting to read a book I had with me. I received my food, no silverware. The waitress I'm sure forgot but I had to eventually get up to find her to let her know I needed silverware. Pancakes by the way were delish! After 30 minutes or so, I noticed I was the only person of color eating in this area (elderly couple left shortly after I was seated). Just prior to receiving my ticket, another black female eating alone was led to Area 3, I'll call it. This is not looking good! I shared my observation with an employee who I thought was a Manager. She was very apologetic and stated they only had one waitress for that area. My reply, "And?" She then stated it was not their intent to seat customers as it appeared to me to be. I replied that their actions definitely contradicted her words. Again, she apologized. I received my ticket and as I walked to the front of the restaurant, there was a line of customers waiting to be seated. Yet, I sat in the back of the restaurant with over a half dozen or more empty tables. I don't know what the intent was behind the actions shown. read more

As an OR nurse I often ask my patients what they will eat after surgery. Yesterday my patient announced "McAlister's" and the entire room ( surgeon included) erupted into a detailed convo on McAlister's menu. Sandwiches, Spuds, Salads, and Strawberry Tea... Everyone had a menu fav but this girl... I had never set foot in a McAlisters. Fast forward a few days and I had to make sure to see what all this hype was about.... so here is my review. This place is BUSY on a Saturday afternoon. Apparently the people of Etown love them some McAlister's too. I ordered for my entire family of 5 plus my parents and sister included which meant I had a nice variety off the menu. The Orange Cranberry Club and King Club were . Both are very sophisticated looking sandwiches that were gobbled up before I could get a picture. My parents loved the chicken salad but werent as excited about the potato salad or mac n cheese. Admittedly though only a very few establishments have gotten the nod of approval on those two sides. I tried a Just spud with bacon and broccoli. Though it was the biggest baked potato I have ever seen in my life, it was just a that... a big potato. Nothing remarkable to speak of....meh. All and all... Panera still has the Soup, Salad, Sandwich key to my heart but McAlisters could easily be a decent stand in. read more

One of my favorite lunch spots! Love the pick 2 options. Salads are always so fresh and can't beat their sweet tea. I am almost never disappointed though I typically stick to a few of my go to sandwich and salad choices. I tried a seasonal mushroom soup and found that I didn't care for it. The manager was walking around checking on customers and noticed I'd barely touched the soup.He asked if something was wrong and when I told him I didn't really like it, he offered to bring me a different soup or something else instead at no charge. I ate lunch here with my sister and they put mustard on her sandwich when she asked for no mustard. Before she took the second bite they were coming out to our table telling her they were sorry and brought her a new sandwich and soup out. They brought a take out bowl for her second soup. And a few seconds later here comes the manager offering her a card for a free lunch next time. I'm impressed. They're two for two on effing up medium size (and really simple) catering orders for my office (three months apart - tried to give them a chance to resolve their staff competency issues), at the last minute, despite confirming orders. To-table service for eat in orders takes about as long as you'd expect. Definitely not quick serve, but not full-service restaurant waits. In house: two of three times I've eaten onsite, the to-the-table servers have been inappropriate (one commented graphically on my breasts - entirely out of the damn blue; the other slipped her number to my partner [who promptly handed it to me, because, well, he's a goofball prince]. Seriously. Yeah. WTbloodyF?) Who is training these people? Who is hiring these people, who clearly have no notion of what it is to act appropriately in a work environment? Food is, well, basic kinda-deli, with enough options, even on regular menu items that you can arrange a meal you won't hate. Nothing is exceptional, though. Perhaps get new white plastic plates. There is tiny amounts of food along walls. The menu is good but needs some TLC in preparation. My wife and I love eating here. My favorites are the Pecanberry salad and the Jalapeno Turkey Crunch. These are included in the pick 2, so I get to have both at the same time. These must be addictive because I have to have this once a week. The majority of the team members are excellent. The ones that aren't, probably won't be there on your next visit.
