I wasn't expecting the place to have a lot of business considering the location because many of the stores nearby seem to be suffering from a lack of customers. I had the Southwest Cobb Salad and was kinda disappointed in the fact that you get 3 tortilla chips with it. Being diabetic, probably a good thing, but since I didn't tell anyone that I was expecting more. Kinda wanted more guacamole, too. The food was great otherwise. This has to be the WORST place ever to go and try to get food. I have been here several times and whether it's for dine in or to go it takes forever to get your food. Made the mistake of going tonight and not only did we have to wait 25 mins for our food, but then the order was wrong and I ordered a salad and got a sandwich. This is not the first time they have messed up my order either. I WILL NOT GO BACK to deal with their long wait and lack of quality control for making sure orders are accurate! This is a great deli here in Temple. If you've never been its definitely worth the time & money. I think for one they have the best tea around, sweet & unsweetened; it has a good fresh brewed taste. Their bread bowl soups are delicious!! Their sandwiches are made fresh & the bread is always soft. The cookies, though they are really flattened are tasty as well. Going at lunch time can prove a challenge as they get very busy, so go early or be patient. If you're a tea fan, get the punch card because the 10th one is free!! 8-) read more

I was pleasantly surprised. I remember a McAlister's when I lived in Houston, but never ate there. Other choices like Panera Bread and Jason's Deli distracted me. This is the only deli of this style in town (Jason's is coming soon!) and I decided to each lunch here this past week. I had half of a French dip sandwich with a cup of fire-roasted vegetable soup. My wife had a chicken salad sandwich and a side garden salad. The French dip was very tasty with soft baguette and flavorful beef. The au jus was good! Most casual restaurants au jus tastes like Kitchen Bouquet and water - not here! And the soup was fresh. So why not 5 stars? My wife asked for a different type of salad but we were in a hurry and didn't want to wait for a reorder. My soup was lukewarm, not hot (health code violations or just sitting at the window too long? Either way, not good.). Portions were OK, but $20 for lunch (for 2) is a bit steep for everyday. They do provide drinks in large to-go cups which is nice, but the refills must be handled by the servers across the counter instead of self-service like Panera. Not a huge issue, but when they're swamped during the lunch rush, you don't want to wait. Maybe that's the point? read more

Nothing special, or even all that tastey. The soup was mediocre the horseradish sandwich was less than mediocre. The roast beef was ok, but the cheese and the horseradish might as well non-existent. The restaurant was dirty. Floors were dirty and not mopped. The booth we sat in had old dried food in cracks and table top was still sticky. The cushions are cracked and worn out. My husband and I recently moved back to the area from Houston and were excited for the new location. We ate here our first night back and despite having one person in front of us waiting on a drink refill, we still waited around 7 minutes just to order at 8pm. We went back today before the lunch rush and waited 10-15 minutes to order and ended up leaving because we couldn't stand watching the poor girl behind the counter be by herself. She was becoming frazzled and even asked for help from the back, but the girl who came to help left after pressing a few buttons on the screen. When we walked in there was no one behind us. After we gave up on waiting and left there were at least 12-14 people waiting to have their order taken. Again, due to the girl being by herself (taking orders, & refilling cups). I can't stand to watch places leave their employees like that. We did over hear that there were catering orders, but in my opinion those should be ready to go so the front counter could have more people behind it. I got the New Yorker as usual and it was good but I couldn't get over the Signature Lemonades. I wanted to try it out since I usually get tea. I ordered the strawberry lemonade and watched her make it. She pumped some strawberry puree/syrup in my cup, went to the soda fountain and filled it up with Minute Maid Lemonade!!! I couldn't stop laughing...that was the "signature" lemonade...and it cost more than the tea! Ah well....I drank the lemonade so I could refill it with tea. read more

McAlister's was good. Upon walking in we were greeted by a wonderful young lady. Her name was Raven. The cashier was also friendly and made suggestions for us. Sorry I didn't remember her name. Raven brought our food out and was so pleasant. She stayed for s brief moment to make sure everything was fine and asked if she could get us anything else. McAlister's used to be 5-star for me at their old location across the parking lot. Due to the pandemic they moved to the old Fazoli's building to have a Drive-Thru, which is nice, but it's a lot less convenient on the inside. The service staff used to have an open area where they could easily see if you needed a refill or you could go up and wave somebody down, but now they're always in the back kitchen so you have to go through the line to the cashier again to get anything. The lobby is smaller and the registers are located in the middle of traffic, so if you have more than one or two people lined up nobody knows where to stand. It would be best if they could figure out a system to get people to queue up naturally so we're not lining up in the middle of aisleways. That said, the food is great, especially the Jalapeño Turkey Crunch--though I really miss the Big Nasty and the Chicken Cordon Blue (the pretzel bread was the best)--and their tea is addictive (though I do wish they'd bring back the green tea). I've known some of the staff here for years, and they're always very kind and helpful, and even ask me about how the family is doing if I come in alone. read more
