My happy place!!! I can't remember how I found the brand but I'd been buying it from Lazy Acres, WF and occasionally Erewhon for the organic flavors. Sprouts had it, once I actually started eating it, they discontinued it lol. I love that for the majority of flavors it's so much cleaner than other brands. I realized there was flavors I wanted to try, not in those stores. I texted cs (SUPER helpful btw) but they told me the stores had all the flavors. GCM can be a pain, and my friend sent me a story about that store, so I'm glad I ended up in studio city. I wrote her name but can't find it. I think it was Mirka. So sweet and helpful. She was patient while I tried some of the flavors I had curiosity around but had never seen in the stores. At the time the double strawberry sees collab flavor was new, tried it and liked it. The pbj needed strawberry jelly instead. There was other flavors I hadn't heard of. It was nice to be at the helm of the flavors lol. I did a sampler flight and got the strawberry sees one to go home. I will say, it's $13 in store, and a while back WF had a kick ass sale and I paid $4! But they didn't have all the flavors! So I suppose it's worth it lol. I came again w a friend. I wanted to do the corn and berries and try the berry crumble. I was so intrigued by corn and berries, but let me tell you, it's chillin w its cousins in my freezer! I should've taken a pic of my freezer at the height of the sale! I think I have 8 pints in my freezer. Don't judge me. Some of my faves: summer corn & blackberries, brown sugar w milk Bordeaux, banana cream w toffee ettes, sea salt cream & cookies and golden state vanilla. I love churros & sprinkle cake - only available here. Haven't brought them home yet but they were part of my flight. I find it interesting, of all the flavors they find strawberry oversaturated, so you can only buy it here or online. I'm not big on chocolate but even w the ss cream & cookies, they're house made cookies and SO good! Despite the name, I didn't realize chocolate w polar bear paws was a chocolate based ice cream, again lol don't judge me. Most chocolate ice creams I've had in the past are hard to get through. Let's just say that pint lasted 2 days once opened. I probably would buy it on a rare occasion but I was surprised with how smooth it is. I brought my friend with me the second time, she got the Bordeaux one after tasting. I tried to tell her it was available at WF, but that's not her usually store so she paid it. Again I'm struggling with the name of the guy that helped us. Kind and patient. Obviously I'll be back when something I'm intrigued by is only here or online. I'm extremely happy that they don't just deliver an epic product, but the service also lives up to it. It's a place I'll happily return. read more

Ok, ok, ok. McConnell's has pretty darn good ice cream. I normally stick with the sweet cream, but this time I got the dulce de churro with a scoop of salted caramel banana. Solid combo. Kind of like a horchata with caramelized banana. My wife loved the berry crumble with matcha, especially the little crumble chunks. Honestly, though, half the reason we come to this location is the big bench outside. You can sit there, eat your ice cream, and watch people and dogs stroll by. I have been ruined for any other ice cream solely due to how AMAZING McConnell's is! If you are like me, ice cream is a pleasure enjoyed every once in a while. I would like it every day but my doctor would probably have some words for me if I did. So when I actually do get ice cream, I want the best. And let me tell you, McConnell's is the best in my opinion. I would describe the ice cream here as being made with the freshest ingredients you could imagine. They have an assortment of interesting flavors to choose from. The staff is more than happy to offer you samples so you can pick your favorite, but always stick to my go-to flavors, which never disappoint. First is one of their original flavors, Eureka Lemon and Marionberries. It tastes like Italy in your mouth. It's sweet and light from the ice cream base but also tart and flavorful from the lemon and marionberry notes. My second flavor, and probably my number one if I had to choose, is their coffee ice cream. When I tell you, I crave this stuff, I mean it! I've had plenty of coffee ice creams in my day but this one is perfection. It has a strong coffee flavor that isn't overpowered by the sweetness and it's got little specks of coffee grind in it which is like a surprise for the palate. You wouldn't think these two flavors go well together, but they really do! I always get myself a double scoop (which is actually four scoops). So if you order a double you can actually get four different flavors. I always get it in a cup with a sugar cone on top. It's the perfect treat. They also offer some baked goods like brownies where you make sundaes with them. And while I normally think a brownie would enhance the ice cream experience, here I believe the ice cream is the star and you shouldn't ruin it! Now on to the negatives, and there aren't many. It's on the more expensive side for ice cream. But again, you are getting a premium quality product and I personally don't mind paying a little more for something I feel reflects the value. And while the ice cream here is the best, the parking is not the best. You can get lucky and find metered street parking but because there are so many popular businesses on this strip, it's usually pretty crowded. If you are willing to walk a little bit, you can usually find parking in the neighborhood behind the businesses. Or, and I didn't tell you this, you can park in the large Von's parking lot on the other side of Laurel Canyon and take the short walk over. That's actually probably the best option to get that exercise in before devouring your ice cream anyway! read more

McConnell's is excellent. Just shy of a five star rating (one employee clearly didn't want to be working there or helping customers, while the other was very friendly and gave five star service). The ice cream quality here is excellent, I tried a couple different flavors and they were all as good as it gets for an American Ice Cream Parlor. Every McConnell's location I've visited seems to satisfy -- they always deliver unique, creative flavors and there's something new to try every time. This visit, I went for the Earl Grey ice cream. It might not sound like the most obvious choice, but they made it work perfectly with buttery shortbread chunks mixed in and that signature McConnell's creaminess. The service was friendly and quick, and the shop itself was cute, clean, and welcoming with both indoor and outdoor seating available. My favorite ice cream spot in the valley!!! I haven't had this in quite a bit but coming back last night really brought back memories why I can say this is my favorite spot! Their ice cream is just so creamy, amazing variety of flavors, and it's not overly sweet. I got a scoop of early Grey tea & shortbread cookie, and strawberries & shortbread cookies - i love when the chunks of cookies soften up and becomes so chewy in the ice cream. I have been buying McConnell's at Whole Foods every so often and it is excellent. So when I was saw the logo sign, I practically jumped out of the car I was driving. The ice cream in-vivo is even better than the store stuff. I hate admitting that LA has some of the best ice cream, but McConnell's is truly spectacular. I got a sundae with cookies and cream and sat outside and went into an ice cream tunnel and devoured it in probably 60 seconds. OMG, they have so many flavors! The shop is very clean, and we were helped by a charming young Lady, Alia! She was so knowledgeable and pointed out if we bought 4 ready packed pints we could get a insulated tote to take it home and since we live about 25 miles away and it is very hot, we welcomed her suggestions. Right now McConnells has paired with Sees Candy on many flavors. What a special treat. They take credit cards, but the parking is on Ventura Place and it could be daunting. I've been going to McConnell's ever since I was living in Santa Barbara and I make a point to come here if I'm passing by a location. Maybe it's the nostalgia or maybe the warmer months, but McConnell's has been my first choice for ice cream. I love their flavors, the seasonal things they come up with. I like that they do have delicious sorbet flavors as well. Their scoops can be split (so you can get 2 flavors without having to get a whole other scoop). Sometimes there is a line but it goes by pretty fast. This location doesn't really have a lot of seating. There's a few seats inside but most people take their scoops and sit outside. Depending on how busy it is, you can find a bench. I like to go at night time, post dinner, and there's usually less people then. Parking is street parking and it can get hard to find (another reason why I prefer going at night). But don't let that discourage you, it's worth a try! read more

Hailing from Santa Barbara, it's basically an ice cream institution at this point. They have so many flavors now and all of them are stellar. Creamy and full of flavor, I absolutely loved it. OMG!! There aren't enough adjectives to describe this amazing place! So, I flew to LA to spend time with my sister, who is going through a rough time right now. Kathy decided to give this place a try, saying she'd been waiting to try it for a while. Jayden greeted us and began by saying, "welcome to the best ice cream in the world!" He went on to say we can try every ice cream you see, and you don't have to buy anything!" Then, he proudly talked about the ingredients and offered us some of his favorites! I swear I felt like I was in Napa Valley at a wine tasting!! He described how the texture of each ingredient would taste and feel in your mouth and then he would describe which ingredient you could taste as you finished the tasting! We tried about 10 different ice creams and finally decided on two: the Dutchmen Chocolate and the Banana Salted Caramel! Both were AMAZING!! you could taste the love!! My sister was so overwhelmed by Jayden's passion and enthusiasm that she got teary- eyed! Like I said, she's going through a lot right now, so as tears welled in her eyes she said, "This was exactly what I needed!" I was so thrilled to see her experience that small moment of pure joy!
