Food was excellent. Service was poor. Read on for more about the service. I was visiting from Chicago for a business meeting and taking a client out. There were several missteps in the service that I'll mention. I made a reservation on OpenTable for 12pm and when we talked in, there was no one at the host stand. Several wait staff members came and went, but no host. It was several minutes before the host returned to seat us. For a restaurant of this caliber, I would expect 2 hostesses to always be present to greet guests when one is called away to seat a guest. Once seated, it was over 5 minutes before our server greeted us and 7-8 minutes before our waters were filled. This time lag is unacceptable and all guests should be greeted within the first 60 seconds. Once the food was ordered, at approximately 12:25, it was not until 12:55 that the food was delivered. Again, this is a long time to wait during a business lunch as we were on a truncated schedule. Our server was very polite and courteous throughout the lunch. Overall, it was not a great experience and for a client lunch I don't think I would attend again with other options within walking distance. read more

My husband really loves oysters so we went here on a Thursday to get their Oyster special and check this place out. The atmosphere was what you'd expect from a high end steakhouse. Our service was good. Not outstanding but good. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer. I thought it was pretty good but just like any other calamari I've had. My husband said the oysters we just so so. For dinner I had the lobster bisque and walnut salad which were both tasty. The bisque could have used a bit more lobster in it. My husband got a seafood trio which he said was good. I did try some. Overall the food was just okay though. Prices were fair for the food selection. And we enjoyed our meal. I'm not sure I'd go back only because I feel like I've been to other steakhouses or seafood joints that were better. read more

Out for a nice birthday dinner before a concert at the Old National Center. Been here before and as usual, friendly staff, tasty food and good service overall. I left my car keys on the table after dinner and didn't realize I was missing them till after the concert. Did some backtracking of where we were and the last time I saw them. After checking some other places, we felt we might have left them at the restaurant and went back there after the concert/. McCormick & Schmicks said they didn't' have them and we did some more walking / ubering to check at the theater and our path during the night. Uber'd home and fortunately was able to get in, get to a spare set of keys for the car and uber back to get the car. All done by 2AM. Calling M&S the next day, they did have the keys then. Not sure where the keys were that first time we stopped in hours after dinner, but it's on us for leaving things we should hold on to! Interesting experience to end a birthday celebration evening! read more

Which part was worse? Waiting over 10 minutes for our waiter (Ken) to bring us water? Waiting even longer for him to come back and take our order? Waiting over 40 minutes after our salads for our entrees to come out? Having Ken run my credit card for $293 on my $90 bill? Now the last part was rectified before I left. The other issues I had that night, my wife and I were BARELY offered an apology for. I would never recommend this place to anyone I respect. I never leave reviews but all I thought about on the ride home was how terrible the evening was and how I felt I should share this with potential visitors to this establishment. I'm not even sure why I'm giving the place two stars. This review is more about the service than it is the food. That being said, I could've had a meal just as good at BoneFish Grill for $30-$40 less. Terrible, terrible experience. FOLLOW UP 7/9/14********* I received a telephone call from the restaurant apologizing for the poor experience. My wife and I have been invited back and our earliest convenience and have been assured of a proper visit the second time around. I will follow up this review after we have gone back and will share my thoughts on the evening. read more

Expensive, but worth the splurge. Came with a party of 14 with a reservation and got our food and drinks quickly. Excellent service and food; I would definitely come back! read more

McCormick & Schmick's Seafood & Steaks - Seafood Near Me - Indianapolis, Indiana

Each and every time I come here, I'm always impressed. Erin, Parker and Emma at the bar are amazing and the food is always on point.

I ordered the cobia (fish) and a whiskey sour. Cobia should tender, moist, and buttery. You shouldn't need a knife to eat it. I was served the driest, toughest, most over cooked piece of fish I have ever had in my life. I was extremely disappointed. The whiskey sour wasn't any better. A whiskey sour should be frothy and somewhat creamy from being shaken with an egg white. I think the bartender just poured some whiskey and added sweet and sour mix over ice. Absolutely horrible. Oh, I should add that since my fish was such a huge disappointment and I was still hungry, because it was inedible I asked the waiter for more bread. He came back about 15 minutes later and said that they were not making any more bread that night. The only good thing on my plate was the green beans, but they were no different than buying frozen ones and making them at home yourself. Lastly, I would like to add that our waiter was very good and knowledgeable, we still tipped him properly, because he shouldn't be held accountable for the kitchen's horrible service. We will not be going back. read more

We went over there for lunch today and I got a non-seafood item which I think was a bad choice. You can tell their specalities are seafood-related and everything else gets less attention. The cheeseburger came out raw in the middle so that had to be sent back which just delayed the timing on the meal. My suggestion: stick to the seafood since it is a seafood restaurant. read more

Does not even get close to the food quality of McCormick & Schmick's in Portland OR! I went there for lunch, had a mediocre Tilapia for $16. They charge $9!!!!! for a draft. $9 for a local draft of beer, I could only laugh at that insanity! read more

Ive dined at M&S at locations across the country and the service and quality of the food seems to have a wide range based on location. I had fish, the wedge salad, and whiskey sours tonight and everything was on point. Will be back read more

Overall, this chain generally offers attractive decor and locations along with middle-of-the-road steakhouse food. If it's food you're looking for, I would step up to a better quality steakhouse like The Capital Grille. Much better service and food quality. Nonetheless, I think McCormick has a great happy hour with both well priced food and beverages. Conveniently located in the Hilton Hotel in downtown Indianapolis, this is a safe and solid choice read more

McCormick and Schmick's is a great restauraunt. They fly in their seafood fresh everyday. Some of the oyster's are only available to McCormick's restaurants. The bar is great, the happy hour is great, the staff is great! McCormick and Schmick's, is by far better than Oceanaire. If you want a very nice seafood meal, or if you just want a sampler of oyster's at the bar, McCormick and Schmick's is the place to go! read more

We've been here for Christmas Dinner. Great appetizer. Splendid Salmon and gorgeous oyster! Their prawn and steak also superb, out of surprise. Desserts also fab. Definitely a place must go. read more

We came in on New Year's Eve and had a great time! We were actually running a little over 10 minutes late to our reservation and the hostess was so nice and understanding when we called beforehand to warn them. We were able to order off the full menu rather than a prefixed menu, which was a huge plus. The filet was cooked perfectly. However, the best thing was the red pepper white cheddar mashed potatoes. Would totally recommend! read more

The waitress was a little snobbish towards us. It was happy our so our oyster shooters were suppose to be $2.95, but she rang them up as $5.95, but I didn't complain. The biggest problem I had though was that the tab was $40.93, so I paid with $60 cash, and she came back with only $8 in change. So I had to tell her that she still owes me $10. So I got my $10 dollars from her finally. (don't worry, for those of you who are wondering while reading this review, I still tipped her 15% of the total bill even though I felt like she didn't deserve any at all.) but needless to say my girlfriend and I are never coming back there again. read more

Something went terribly wrong. I ordered the sea bass which I was super excited about and given the price of $37 I know it had to be delicious especially for Indianapolis. I was a little surprised at how long it took to prepare as the restaurant felt very empty to me especially for a Thursday night. I was sitting in the bar area so perhaps the actual restaurant was a little more full. I could smell the fish from around the corner and honestly thought to myself... "who ordered such a stinky fish?" Turns out the fish was mine. I tried not to make a scene as I just wanted to eat my dinner and head back to my hotel room. I cut into the fish and noticed that it was very hard to cut into. Seabass should be very light and flakey. I ate a little bit and should have just spit it out as it was the most foul tasting thing I've ever eaten. I should have known just to not eat the fish based on such a foul stench. I'm so mad at myself for actually taking a bite. I pretend to move the fish around in my plate and the stench was so strong and there was another table sitting across from me and they made some comment about the horrible smell. There were also two guys at the bar who turned around and told me I need to leave and give back the fish immediately. The table across from me then told me that she ordered the trout and she had to send hers back as well. This was a smell I've never smelt before - like old rotten dead fish. Just AWFUL. So I obviously I call the waitress over, have her take the fish and ask for the check. Clincher here is that they charged me for my $17 shrimp cocktail. I just couldn't believe it. The host/manager guy comes over and asks me what the problem is and I'm literally just about to walk out of the restaurant. I couldn't believe he was making a scene about something so horrible and him trying to charge me for the shrimp cocktail. What horrible customer service. They didn't even apologize. What they didn't know is that I'm a recruiter for a huge company and wine and dine students all the time and was actually going into the restaurant to get a feel for the vibe to see if I would send students to eat there with our professionals. They will never see another penny of mine and I will never send my company professionals there. Worst experience ever! I'm terrified that I'm going to get sick now. I honestly hope the chef or general manager contacts me about this review as I just still cannot get over what happened. read more

Although a chain, it's the best seafood in Indianapolis; bar none. The crab cake appetizer melts in your mouth. The stuffed salmon is equally good. Service was okay. The staff was friendly. However, the waiter swooped in and took away our crab cake appetizer before we were finished. He didn't ask if we were done, he just took it away and we lost out on a sizable portion of our appetizer. The dining room wasn't busy so there was no reason to rush us through. Frankly, the guy was lucky he didn't get a fork in the hand for stealing the one item I was truly looking forward to eating. The premature clearing of dishes was unnecessary and really pissed us off. If you're looking to enjoy your meal in its entirety, go to the downtown Chicago location, the service there was impeccable. However, if you want some of the best seafood in Indy and want to pay full price to only get to eat half your dish, come here. read more

A friend of mine introduced me to McCormick & Schmicks for their Happy Hour. Their Happy Hour menu has a variety of appetizers as low as $1.95 to a mere $5.95. Their menu items changes to what is in season. You will find the typical bar food such as buffalo wings, 1/2 lb burger ($1.95), calamari, fish tacos, oyster shooter, mussels, sliders and etc. When in season they also have crawfish. You are require to have at least a $3.50 drink purchase to order off the Happy Hour menu, which includes non-acoholic. I have not been there recently so some things may have change. This is a great place to go to to hangout, watch sports, drink, and eat good cheap food! Since I am a huge fan of their Happy Hour. I had to check out the restaurant itself. I was on the fence with the overall experience. The restaurant ambience is what you would expect from fine dining and their waitstaff is sufficient as well. The meal, on the other hand, somewhat disappoint me. We ordered a oyster platter and crab cake for appetizers. The oyster platter includes a variety of oysters from different region of the U.S. I am very glad we tried the oyster platter because we were able to differentiate which one we like. Our favorite was the Blue Points and we made sure whenever we order oysters they were Blue Points. The crab cakes were good but not great. I really enjoyed their heirloom tomato salad as a starter, but I do love my tomatoes! For the entrée, I ordered the Sea Scallop. I love love scallop, if they were cooked right. My scallop entrée were definitely overcooked, being a seafood restaurant that should not have happened. I will be glad to give them business through their Happy Hour but probably won't return for their regular menu unless somebody else's treat. read more

The absolute worst. Horrible service. Our waiter didn't even greet us - just started filling the water. I thought he was the busboy. I think he stopped at our table 3-4 times. Only to bring something. Never checked in. Empty water. Asked for lemon 2 times. The food took over an hour. I get it you're busy but you can stop by and check in. Offer more bread. Offer a comp drink. Something. It wasn't until we threatened to leave the manager stepped in with apologies. Finally after an hour plus waiting the food arrived. Blah. Butterfly shrimp?? I could have gotten the same thing at long johns silvers. Soggy fries. Cold grilled plate. So disappointed. Don't waste your time or money. read more

I was staying at the Hilton that is connected to mccormicks. I decided to get a drink at 1045 on a monday night when the bartender told me that they were closed. When I said that the hours in the door say that the bar closes 1 hour after the 10pm reataurant close time, she said whatever, they are closed. Its unfortunate that they are rejecting business with a full bar of patrons already sitting enjoying drinks and not even closing time yet. Because of this, I will not be spending any other nights at this Hilton and I am cancelling my reservation for 8 people at this restuarant tomorrow night. read more

This is a menu made in heaven for me.......Almost all seafood, and all of it looked good. We were no overly hungry, so we ended up ordering off the happy hour menu and it was soooo cheap. We had fish tacos and parmesean garlic fries, of which each were $1.95. What a deal at a higher end place! :). I had clam chowder that was incredible to start, and my husband had a ceasar salad, which looked really fresh and yummy. Server was very attentive and on top of her game. Love this place. Wish we had one in MI. read more

What an unenjoyable evening. Made a reservation at 845 and had to wait 15 min. No big deal, happy to wait at the bar. Had a cocktail at the bar. Seated and we were not greeted or acknowledged for 15 minutes. That's just unacceptable. I don't care how busy you are, you make an effort to say hello to your tables and explain the situation. I am much more understanding when someone says they are struggling versus just ignoring us. After finally being greeted, we had to wait for menus. Ridiculous. Ordered and everything took forever. Upon service, the food was cold and barely edible. I swear, Red Lobster would have had finer food and better service. That isn't an insult to Red Lobster, but I imagined this to be a higher caliber restaurant. I was wrong. The kicker that sent me over the edge. I ordered the chocolate pots de creme for dessert because the server recommended it. The dessert is like a chocolate mousse. When she put it down she said "careful, it's still hot in the middle" What???? You just recommended this and don't even know what it is? It's cold chocolate pudding. That was the clencher. This meal sucked. After having an epic wait, it would have been classy for a manager to stop by and ask us about our experience. Never happened. Won't return. read more

Sink into a comfy booth and strap up your big girl shoes! Alaska halibut, Idaho trout, Monchong ? , Steelhead trout, fresh oysters decorate the menu. Solid great dining and satisfying choices will sure make an impact. We overlooked but will mention the minor flaws....ha, you know the ones that just blow your five stars!, Stoli martini served in chipped glass, oysters shucked carelessly with shell n grit left for you to discretely dispose of, Idaho pan seared trout with no sear- chef was shyly timid n needed hot sear to get it right, otherwise you get a pale, floury coat that looks like a powdered donut that got damp. Our wine choice, Austrian Veltleiner, not in stock, no lemon served w fish, no cracker served w oysters, no espresso as machine is kaput, Our waiter was excellent and did his best to overcome what we believe is management driven lack of quality control. You can understand that these tiny flaws add up n makes it tough to justify five stars, can't you?? Lastly, the host that seats you in a near empty dining room next to a large group doesn't get it. We asked for a quiet booth n he doesn't even register what that mean n makes a beeline to the big table to dump us off like a comma at the end....cum on! We said, not near the big one buddy. There were twenty other quieter choices... read more

Had dinner with my Wife on New Years Eve. So given that it's a holiday I did take that into consideration for this review. I believe they were under staffed because our server was hustling to take care of at least 10 tables. He did a great job to keep up but the overall service was slow. We had to ask for bread plates. The table next to us had to ask for silverware. Our appetizer vs salad was out of sequence. They made a mistake on my wife's order and and did a rush cook and over cooked the stuffed shrimp. The oysters were awesome and my steak was fantastic. For spending $$$, I would recommend Ruth Chris or Capital Grill for the money. We didn't get the value. read more

The worst seafood in all of the world. I grew up in Indiana and never liked seafood until I moved out to NY. There is a small place down in the west village that changed my interest in seafood forever, that aside I have had good seafood back in chicago and even the Red Lobster in Bloomington was actually ok. But THIS, wow, reallllllllllllly bad. DO NOT go here. We had the blue crab "tower" to start. Wow, really just marginally ok, there is a THIN sliver of crab atop a mountain of avacodo and mango, which actually do not pair well together at all. Then we had the Coconut Crusted Wahoo which wasn't bad but they drenched in this fresh from the can sugary asian chile sauce, really gross. Also had the Wild Ahi Tuna, not good. It was really tough, dried out and sometimes gooey and chewy. Just horrible. It's not worth it for the money, just spend a little more and go to Oceanaire or even Red Lobster, I think there are a few in Indy or just make something at home, you are assured it will be better than this place and cheaper. read more

I am giving them one star because zero is not available as an option. General manager (Lindsay Watts) was extremely rude and actually cursed us about our complaints. She said "I'm sorry we messed up your f'ing meal"! Shrimp appetizer was over cooked and not edible. Waited over two hours for our meal and then it was not correct (ordered crab cakes and served salmon). Portion sizes small for the price...$23 for a cup of lettuce. Food was over cooked and cold. Overall terrible experience. Will be contacting corporate. read more

I was in Indianapolis for the Elks convention and a few of us went there for dinner. First, the staff was friendly, however; the food came out all disjointed. Some people got apps when others entrees came out. Some people didn't get soup they ordered. I had the mussels followed by the shrimp scampi. The mussels were tasty but they didn't give me any bread or crustini to sop up the yummy sauce. The shrimp were cooked well but the linguini it came with was mush and more like scampi soup in the proportions. I think it was rather expensive for the portion size. read more

I was so disappointed! On the final day of Devour Downtown, with a ton of options left to cross off my list, my friend and I chose to visit McCormick & Schmick's. Neither of us had ever been before and we wanted to try something new. We were seated at a table directly adjacent to the front door, which really didn't give us much opportunity to get a feel for the place. Our server, Scotty, was kind and attentive and made sure that we were taken care of. We did stick to the Devour Downtown menu except for the drinks that we ordered. My friend had the arugula salad as an appetizer, and I had the shrimp bruschetta. The salad was pretty basic, arugula and dressing and my bruschetta was surprisingly delicious. I am not big on tomatoes, but the balsamic drizzle made all the difference. I was rather confused, however, at why two of my "toasts" only had one shrimp and the third had three. The consistency was definitely off. The same was true when it came time for our entrees. My friend ordered the salmon, which was served with roasted potatoes, vegetables, and more arugula. Her veggies were burned. I ordered the steak and creole shrimp. The serving size was laughable. This dish came with 3 shrimp and the 3 smallest slices of steak that I've ever seen. The steak was overcooked, so the manager was summoned. She seemed nice and immediately noticed that the steak was overcooked. I told her that I was also shocked at the portion size and chose to get the salmon instead. My friend took that opportunity to inquire about the veggies and potatoes on her plate being overcooked. The manager replied that, when roasted, that is how they are intended to come out. When my plate came out, the veggies and potatoes were perfect; my friend's HAD been burned. My friend made the comparison since the manager was the one who brought my plate out. She smiled and told us to enjoy our meal as she walked away. It was a lack-luster experience! Even my drink was watered down and the Chocolate Truffle Tower that we made the mistake of ordering for dessert was disgusting! Scotty did advocate for us and because of that, he was the best part of that experience! read more

For the price I would expect great service and even better food. I went for lunch one day and had the shrimp taco. The shrimp were spicy with good flavor and pretty crunch. My husband and I were hesitant to dine here, given the recent bad reviews but decided to give it a try anyway. Our server was prompt and we never needed for anything. My husband's filet and my seabass were cooked perfectly. And the manager, Wil. came by to see how our meal was. I'm not sure we could've asked for better service and it was definitely worth the price. Wish we could've stayed for dessert. The only thing odd about the meal was that I've never seen an "Oscar" done "on the side". But that's how my husband's Filet Oscar was served. Not a problem, just unusual. Alright now, I've read several negative reports on this restaurant, but my wife and I had Easter lunch there today and I must disagree. We were seated almost immediately upon arrival. The service was attentive but not obtrusive. The portions were not stingy, but they were not supersize, either. I had the seafood selection of shrimp, stuffed shrimp, and salmon, followed by the upsidedown walnut apple pie with ice cream. If I'd known how spectacular the dessert was going to be, I'd have canceled the entre and had two desserts. Additionally, I am not a once-in-a-while diner at this restaurant. I've been taking my business clients there for the last few years, and I'll be back again this Tuesday. I spoke with the manager about the negative comments, and she pulled no punches. She said she'd had a rough three years, but she was turning things around. I'd agree with her assessment, and I applaud her forthrightness. Yikes. There is only one place I can firmly say I'll never visit again and it's here. I ordered the ribeye and of course they were out. So I asked for the filet. No, this was not a filet. It may have passed for sirloin. I've eaten enough filet and steak to know what the texture should be like. This was easily sirloin that they were marking up as filet. Sides were cold and the service was bad. The only redeeming quality is it was easy to get a seat. Usually not the mark of a successful dining establishment on a Saturday night. 1 star.
