Lord have mercy! I'll never never ever go back to McCrays again! This makes no sense my coworkers and I went today for lunch. I when say the food was bad I mean the food was bad as in Bad. The ribs were chewy, flavorless and dripping. I must have chewed one bit of ribs thirty times before I could swallow it. The pull pork was like it was just boiled in water pulled and added bbq sauce. This was my first time here.... and to say the least, I was not impressed. At all. And barely finished my food. I always smelled the bbq passing through to my sisters house and decided to stop by here tonight with two other friends... I wish I didn't. Firstly, the young woman with the grey hair kept rushing me when I was trying to order and ask questions. These ribs were so hard to even try to chew through. And then we're really tough in most areas. I've never been so unsatisfied with ribs in my life. Not to mention I ordered SWEET sauce and it was spicy....thanks. The sides were so TINY in general. When I got my plate at the drive thru I looked and thought it was a joke. Barely a spoon full. The collard greens were so nasty, so vinegary. Just not good at all. The Mac and cheese had an off taste. Almost like seafood... none of us enjoyed it. I ate it because it honestly was the best thing I had on my plate but in all honesty it was not good either. The potato salad also had a bitter taste. It was odd, I had to let my sister taste it to ensure I wasn't tripping. It wasn't even the right consistency in my opinion. Today I was in the area and decided to stop by McCrays for some cracked conk. I am an absolute lover of cracked conk! I love conk that is not chewy and meaty, and McCrays definitely offer that! I'm not really a lover of their Mac and cheese, but today the Mac and cheese was warm and tasted a bit fresh. Their homemade tarter sauce is sooo delicious! I additionally ordered their $5 lunch special which is 1/4 chicken with coleslaw and baked beans. The portions were a bit small, but overall it will do. The wait time wasn't that bad. They did it again! Stopped again at opening this morning. The smell of the barbecue was enticing so we ordered a 1/2 lb of pulled pork with their signature "twist" sauce in addition to two fried cracked conch snack boxes. As expected, the right-out-of-the-fryer cracked conch, perfectly, lightly coated was EVERYTHING! Again, the Key Lime sauce that accompanies the conch is perfection, however, the hot conch with just a squeeze of lime, PERFECTION! The pulled pork was delicious. Glad we gave it a try. Okay, so this would be my third time visiting/supporting this restaurant based on the strength of it being owned by African Americans and the history behind it. For starters the young lady who answers the phone always seems overwhelmed and she is not very pleasant when taking your order. I asked to sub for white meat on the 1/4 chicken and fries combo and was told that they only have dark Meat..only for her to come back and say they do! Then she proceeds to ask if I would consider paying with my credit card, which was not an issue. However, if I knew that I would have the wrong items with my meal upon pick up I would've opted to pay at the window instead. The iced tea taste like it was made with faucet water...and the taste was not pleasant at all. The food was lukewarm aside from the fries that had just come up because they gave me beans and coleslaw instead. The Mac and cheese was bland with no flavor and greasy with cheese that wasn't cheesing...The pork sliders were okay but nothing to run home and tell mama about. Stopped in with coworkers while traveling and saw the sign from the road. Two of us got ribs and 1 got the 1/4 chicken. The ribs had a nice smokey flavor but were really fatty. I got the hot and sweet sauces mixed which gave a nice tangy flavor. The sauce saved the somewhat average meat. The chicken was very dry. The fries were pretty good, they came with seasoned salt so had a nice flavor. Two of us had ordered an additional side of the mac 'n cheese, and both agreed it was the highlight of our lunch. I wouldn't go back here. I asked for beef brisket and they gave me shredded beef. They also have me what appears to be a spoonful of rice and mac n cheese. I can't account for the taste of the rest of their food but the rice, Mac n cheese was subpar. Shredded beef was decent, but I didn't ask for it. Not worth the 16 bucks I spent. In addition I asked for sauce on the side and I didn't get that either. Also, the person taking my order wasn't friendly and seemed like her life was miserable. I've been a few times. Food is good but Menu at drive through is odd. Some of the staff are slow upstairs. I just ordered a chicken sandwich and got two pieces of toast sliced in half and two tiny pieces of chicken. Am I supposed to make my own sandwich? When you pull into a barbecue place and the first thing you see is a line of offset smokers you get really excited. But unfortunately for this place it went all downhill from there. To start their pricing is super expensive and while you get a good portion of meat it is not barbecue. It is oven-roasted sitting in a pile of water in my plate with the sides served separately. Most BBQ places when they ask you what type of BBQ sauce you want they give it to you on the side this place courts it all over the top to try to hide the fact that their meat has been sitting in a rotisserie pan for hours or on a steam table. Tonight my hubby and I went to try the newest restaurant in West Palm Beach. We have waited several YEARS for this site to be done. Well, luckily it was a beautiful night out...because they ONLY have outside seating at this location on 45th. There are 5 small tables with 4 chairs each in a HUGE outside patio... 20 person seating, with 6 Jumbo TV's!!! Overkill?? What were they thinking? Plenty of places to park and indoor bathrooms. But, no screens to keep the bugs or wind from getting to your food. Speaking of food, I had the pulled pork sandwich-dry. Very moist and good taste. It came with a 'side' of beans and coleslaw & 2 slices of bread...why more bread made no sense to me. The rest didn't fill up the small spoon I was given....a taste is what I would call it. As for my side order of mac n cheese... for $2.50 I can get twice the size at Publix and it wouldn't be dried out. Very disappointed. Our dog was delighted with something crunchy for supper! My hubby is 6' 5" and starving. He ordered a brisket, think for the cost, he was getting a meal. Nope, it was just the meat!!! I gave him my slaw and beans. He won't eat slaw but the beans literally fit on the tiny fork. He got 2 slices of bread and so did I ...although I would never serve 2 MORE slices of bread with a SANDWICH!! Also, their napkins are very tiny and they have notices hanging up NOT to give the customers more than the alotted amount!! Rude. No one came to sit. Everyone was a walkup. We will know better next time. The meat was really good, just a bit on the pricey side, especially when there is no indoor seating or waitresses. We'll go back, but only for the meat. This business has really went down. Any place is better than this. My sis ordered Brisket on July 14th, 2023 and they gave her a pound of chopped ribs which I never heard of.
