Stopped off at McDonald's last week during my lunch break to get a quick bite before having to go back to work. Parked and went inside because the drive-thru line was all the way out to the main road and then some. The line inside was quick and the total time I spent there was less than 10 minutes. When I got back to my room and took out my food, low and behold, my fruit and walnut salad's best if consumed by date read the date from two days ago; luckily my side salad was okay. A bit concerned, I decided to take the salad back to McDonald's before going back to work. Again, I parked and walked inside. A girl named Nadine took my complaint and I overheard her talking with the manager (Tiffany). All the manager did was check to see if the other salads in the refrigerator were expired (which they were) and told the girl to just replace my salad with a new one from the back stock. The girl went to their storage refrigerator in the back and exchanged my expired salad for a new one. What really threw me in this experience was the fact that the manager was standing in front of me and didn't even offer an apology (nor a free french fries or something to compensate for their mistake of not keeping up to date on their stock). As of now, I am very concerned as to whether their other ingredients and pre-made/packaged foods are expired as well, and have concluded that I will NOT order anything that does not have a consume by date on it from this McDonald's. read more

The workers need to go thru some more training to learn the names of food products that they serve. Who eats burrito with Strawberry Preserves? I don't. The easiest order ever I did today. Even though both the husband and I work in Kaimuki, we often find ourselves here on the weekend when we're not at work. While it's your standard McDonald's, it is cleaner than most. Also, finding someone who speaks English at this place is harder than finding an ounce of gold in California. However, the parking is a little tight and really hard to find during rush hour or any time in the early morning when senior citizen mobs are in full swing. You would think that they had an early morning senior citizen special by how many of Kaimuki's elderly hang out here at 8. This review is for Palolo McDonalds. Felt like an Egg McMuffin and Caramel Frappe for breakfast. Asked hubby to take us to this particular McDonalds because the McDonalds by our home (Keeamoku) always have several homeless people in the restaurant at any given time. I empathize with the homeless, but smelling their B.O. while eating is not my idea on good eating. The parking lot at Palolo McDonalds is small and sloped. Waited 5 minutes for a vacant parking spot. Got a table while hubby ordered; and there it was, a thick odor of stink in the dining room. A homeless man with his worldly belongings was sitting 20 ft away from me. I eventually found a table with decent breathing air and settled there. Looking forward to my breakfast and all happy again cuz I was hungry. I took a look at my frappe and became immediately and totally disgusted. My large caramel frappe was a small sized placed in a large sized cup. Let me clarify that we ordered and our receipt said we paid for a large caramel frappe. Hubby said the manager made the frappe, no sense complaining. Well, our caramel frappe was filled below the ice level line, not even touching the while line (2 inches from the cup lip). The whipped cream was barely above the cup lip, leaving the dome crystal clear, untouched and clean. I brought this to the manager's (petite asian lady) attention, showed her my receipt and drink, and asked for a new frappe nicely. She took the frappe and looked baffled. After no comment for quite some time, I asked her for another caramel frappe again. She just looked at me with a blank look. I asked her again to give me another large caramel frappe because this one was not acceptable. After all, I paid for a large frappe, I was expecting a large-sized frappe. I don't understand why she was hesitant. I returned it right away and voiced my concerns, I had not taken a sip, didn't even put in the straw; the frappe was not disturbed, the dome was untouched from the inside. All you could see was an under-delivered and overpriced frappe. All this grief for a frappe. After more seconds of awkwardness, the manager made me a new frappe. Hardly any caramel on the top. Why call it "caramel frappe" when u can't taste the caramel and barely see it? Why give me a small sized frappe and charge me for a large size? Why was this manager continuing making frappes when she obviously can't? smh read more

I hate this place. The drive thru blocks traffic in the right lane of Waialae Ave. People veer into middle lane to avoid the line of cars, and this is dangerous. McDonalds does nothing about it. They have a guy waving a stupid flag but all he does is keep cars from blocking the sidewalk. What about the ROAD? If someone gets hurt it is the City and McDonald's fault for doing nothing about this known and persistent traffic hazard. read more

this is the worst excuse for a mcdonald's i've ever been to. i live nearby and like to eat the food often, but it's almost not worth it. i've visited enough to know the so-called line is chaos, with no structure and all confusion (one of the photos on this page reflects this). the staff is painfully slow, often gets orders wrong, and becomes obstructive or rude when presented with complaints. as other reviewers have pointed out, neither staffers nor managers apologize for any of these problems. literally not ever have i heard an apology. seriously? this morning, i waited more than 10 minutes for my breakfast order (one person, one meal, no substitutions or special orders). as i waited, i saw a staffer behind the counter pick up a tray from the floor and place it on a counter workspace where food was being prepped. that is completely not okay. my long wait, btw, only ended when i asked about my order--which it turned out had not even been started yet, although order numbers higher than mine were being called. (was an apology forthcoming? uh, no.) i really don't understand why this mcdonald's is so terrible. i have complained numerous times over two years of bad experiences, both to the staff in the store and to corporate headquarters. although headquarters is responsive and apologetic, my concerns with the specific store don't seem to be addressed. it's as if the standards for service are nonexistent in this bermuda's triangle of a mcdonald's. wow, i never thought i'd have such strong feelings (positive or negative) about a fast-food chain. i only go here when i *really* want the food--it is only an exercise in frustration to visit more than once a week or so. you can do better, mcd's. i've seen it...everywhere but here. read more

When I ordered light ice for my coffee (new caramel macchiato) they put extra...I told them what my order was and all I got was attitude...They filled my cup half way when they remade it...The drink tasted like sugar milk...And you could tell by the color that they barely put any coffee in it... I remember I ordered a Rolo McFlurry and when I got to the window, I got an Oreo McFlurry. When I told the worker what I actually ordered, she said "No Oreo". She was a little rude and didn't do anything to make my order right so we just left. I don't usually go to McDonalds, but when I do its because my family and I spent the past 8-9 hours boxing and moving stuff out of our house for fumigation. Around 12:30am, my mom and I went through the drive thru at this particular McDonalds to order something that would hopefully replenish all the calories we had just burned. Note that the Palolo McDonalds is ALWAYS crowded, even during late night hours, so we were stuck waiting in the drive thru line for a good 5 minutes. You're only allowed to get to the drive thru by turning right into it from Waialae Ave...no left turns into the driveway are allowed (which means you must be headed in the ewa direction)! Anyway, we ordered a bunch of stuff to bring back for the rest of the family, paid for it, and left. Not that much of a hassle...until we got home. Lesson of the night was to make sure you check your orders before leaving the parking lot! We didn't realize until we got home that they had left out the apple pies my mom ordered. As soon as we realized this, we called them to see what we could do since we were charged for the pies but didn't receive them. It was a little difficult to understand the lady on the phone because of all the background noise, but she took down my name and said we could come back whenever we want to pick up the pies. I wrote down her name as well as the time/date of our conversation on our receipt just to be safe. Fast forward a few weeks, and I found myself with my mom running errands in Kaimuki. We decided to go through the drive thru to see if we could actually get our "free" (already paid for) pies. We ordered them at the menu window, and then as we pulled up to the cashier explained our situation. The cashier was a little confused, but eventually understood and did not charge us for our order. I made sure to count the number of pies just so we wouldn't have to come back again, and we were all set! Although it was a little irritating that they left out a part of our order, I was really impressed that they had good service over the phone and corrected the situation by letting us come back to pick up our missing items on a later date. Hopefully they can get future orders correct, but its good to know I can always call if they forget or miss something! Hooray for Hawaii MacDonalds for continuing to cook their apple pies in the deep fryer! I bet you didn't know that fact! Otherwise if you wanted that treat deep fried, you'd have to travel outside the US to find it. The other 49 states are unfortunate to have only baked versions! Better yet is the occasional special pies that rotate onto the menu throughout the year. Maybe a little. Their new thing I H-A-T-E is when you order coffee, they ask you if you want cream and/or sugar and if so, would you like them to put it in for you. THAT'S GROSS! My family and I use this drive thru at this McDonald's often. The drive thru lines is normally pretty backed up but goes down fast. As soon as you get to the speaker there is normally someone ready to take your order. After they confirm your order, you are told to drive forward. Paying is always quick, no matter if paying with cash or card. Majority of the time when you get to the window, you get your order pretty quick. Some of the window help will go over your order once more to confirm all is correct. I've never had a bad experience here as for the window help, however there have been several occasions where after getting home and we take everything out of the bag, something was missing or wrong with the order. If you call the restaurant to speak to a manager most times they will ask if you can come back to pick up the correct order/item or they will take down your name and you can go back next time to get it. The food is always hot when you receive it. Fries always hot and not too salty! read more

Always crowded with rude school kids or full of homeless harassing you for money or just taking up space. The parking is a hassle. Last week, after breakfast, I took my coffee cup up (with a little coffee still in it) and stated, "Before I leave, can I get a refill?" The girl took my cup, looked in it, stood there, and then said, "What?!" Another girl had to tell her, "Coffee." Then she looked at me, laughing, and said, "She's training." 2nd TIME HAPPENING AT THIS MCDONALDS!! The chocolate chip frappe and caramel sundae I ordered on 2 different occasions, didn't have the clear dome cover snapped on. When I transferred it to my car's center console, it popped off and splattered caramel, whip cream, choc chips and all things gooey down into my brakehandle assembly and between the seat. All I needed was an ant infestation. The manager offered me a replacement both times BUT WHAT I REALLY WANTED WAS HER TO CLEAN OUT MY CAR!! She didn't offer her services which took me an hour to do and I'm still praying NO ANTS. C'mon McDonald's!! Stop using cheap cups or train your employees to clean up the mess they cause. I am a lifelong McD's fan & have been going to the Palolo one since I was a kid. But I have to say after today, I may not return. First, the lady cashier was grouchy & on the brink of rudeness. Which I understand once working in fast food so I brushed it off. Second, the same lady cashier put our order together even though she had customers in line & called out "303!" several times, getting louder & louder, looking at me. When I looked at her, she pointed at me & said, "You! You! This is your order! Your one!" I'm like, wth? So I walked up to the counter & she said loudly "303, your order". I told her I'm 302 & showed my receipt. She said, "oh sorry, here". I brushed it off again. Our order was simple, #2, #4, #7, #9. Get home & we have bbq sauce & NO nuggets. Went back, got an apology from the mgr & our 10-pc. No offer of anything like an extra fries or apple pie. So I told the mgr about her worker & left. Recently renovated to include the self-serve kiosks, though at the cost of some seating. Just the typical McDonald's in terms of service and food. Rest room is relatively clean. If you do a mobile order, you will be able to see your order number on the board which is really helpful. There isn't much parking and a couple are reserved for orders that are brought to the parking area. The drive-thru gets really busy at times and sometimes creates a line that goes onto the street. read more

While I'm patiently waiting in line (5 employees just standing around with a line of guests), a homeless local boy just walks up to the counter and they take his order. They don't like white people here. The buns and meat were also very stale, low quality even for McDonalds. Horrible experience. First of all, the layout of the restaurant including the drive thru is completely backward. Big pile up on Waialae Ave for all the people waiting to drive up causing unnecessary back ups on the street. Second. Ordering is a disorganized mess. You have to order at the opposite end of the entrance and then excuse yourself through the people waiting in line in order to get your self serve drink which, by the way was out of ice. Third. Training. What training? I guess this important component of the McDonald's operation is obsolete. Cashiers with ZERO personality, clueless of the POS system in front of them and a manager who cannot seem to multitask and put out the fires that run rampant in this place. Really disappointing. Fourth. Homeless and very strange people walking around talking to themselves. Fifth. Custodial workers who would rather sit at a table with uniform on and take up seating space than do their job. Oh, and did I mention that they got my order completely wrong?! Simple meals made difficult by undertrained and ambivalent staff make for a very poor and frustrating experience.
