Did you know that fried apple pies still exist?! The catch is, they're only served in the McDonald's in Hawaii! The nostalgia of the fact that these were still being offered was amazing - you didn't even have to ask them 'fresh out of the fryer', as they came out piping hot! I'm sure people have burnt the roof of their mouths, trying to consume this! The oil needed to be changed, as you could taste the oddities of the fried apple pie. Wow, what a surprise. We went here for breakfast to save a little money over resort prices and ended up enjoying our meal. This is automated restaurant so you order at a kiosk and your food comes to your table. The kid had a biscuit and hot chocolate and liked both. The biscuit was fluffy and not dense. She ate mist of it which is always a surprise. The wife had a breakfast sandwich with egg and sausage and liked it. She said it was tasty and good quality. Her coffee was good too. I had hot tea and a hash brown and the hash brown came piping hot and was tasty. It needed salt or something but was crispy and light. It's not as if we will become McDonalds fanatics but this was a pretty good breakfast for a reasonable price. read more

Everything is messed up here. 1) Last week I ordered two meal deals, yet they leave out both packs of nuggets and the apple juice. I had to drive back and forth just to get what I paid for. Everything was cold by then and half thrown out. 2) Then today, I ordered the same thing, two meal deals, and my nuggets were missing again yet they gave me the sauce for them, I also got a large fry and now they're in packs slightly larger than the small and when I emptied them side by side it was the same amount and because of these bags it makes the fries soggy and you only get the small end of the bag fries no more long ones in the boxes, I think the boxes were vented but the bags are not. The fries are also brown and unsalted, when the fries look like that it means they haven't changed their oil in a long time. read more

Usually this place does a pretty good job with drive thru. I've rarely been asked to park and wait. Just don't go inside the building. It's soooo dirty and smells HORRIBLE. Definitely need to do a deeper clean and more often cuz it smelled rancid. read more

Enjoyed their fried apple pies which they no longer serve on the mainland states! So this was an exciting find! Unfortunately they're the only mcdonalds on this side of the island. They have never, and I mean never, gotten a single order correct. I always have to go home missing items or have to return to the store and argue with their management WITH receipt in hand asking politely for what I paid for. Today they forgot my entire sandwhich. So I went back in and showed them my bag and receipt. And the manager in the back says "OH SO HE ATE IT AND NOW WANTS FREE FOOD". I literally went around the corner and immediately back inside the store within 15 seconds. 1/5 worst service, even worse management. I just wish one of the workers had tried to help the abandoned young cat that's been living there in the grass and foliage area of the drive-through for 2 weeks according to the female clerk at the orders window! February 6,2023 - Monday Since we were visiting family in Kahuku some of us were hungry so we decided to check out McDonald's since we only knew it was still open. As we pulled up the drive thru was definitely long but I guess because they have two lanes it went by pretty quickly. They have many things that are out of order such as the mobile app, door into the diner area is broken you have to manually open/shut & the women's restroom so everyone just used the Men's restroom. OUR ORDER: (All meals are LARGE) Fileo Fish Meal w/HIC Punch 2 #7 Cheeseburger Meals w/Sprite + HIC Punch #1 Big Mac w/Icee Blue Raspberry 6-Haupia Pie Our total: $70 & some change. Like dang, if the app was working I'd been able to get the price down or free items since I have so many points. I'm not sure why I'm writing a review for a McDonald's that I've only been to one time, and it was via drive-thru, but here it is. This McDonald's is in the city of Laie, on the island of Oahu, on the east side of the island, right off Kamehameha Highway. We came here specifically for the pie, the taro pie, that is. It's unique to Hawaii as they don't have this flavor on the mainland. We ordered the taro pie and the staff hooked us up with free fries since it was Fryday and we had the app. This was my first time trying the taro pie and it was absolutely delicious. I'm not that crazy about taro in general, but this pie was all that. For some reason, it's better than the standard apple pie that McDonald's is known for. The fries were hot, fresh, and tasty, which was great. Although we didn't dine in, the staff was pretty friendly and helpful via drive-thru. Based on my one time here via drive-thru, I would come again if in the area. read more

Stopped here during the lunch hour while going holoholo around the island. The parking is limited, but we were fortunate to get the last available stall. Once inside, I decided to head to the restroom. A posted sign on the door stated the door is locked and for customer use only. I expected to see a code entry panel like some Starbucks have, but this was just a keyed doorknob. There was nothing about asking for a key, so I pushed on the door and it opened right up. No surprises. Typical 3-person max capacity McD's bathroom. Decided to try and order using the kiosk since there were people already in line. The process was smooth until the kiosk asked me to enter the number of the table tent card in the dispenser and then head to a table. The problem was there were no table tent cards hanging on the kiosk or anywhere in the dining room. I cancelled the transaction and waited in line. They were definitely short-staffed and the front counter person was trying to juggle multiple tasks without losing her composure. We were next in line and waited several minutes before the counter person came back to take our order. It was about another minute or two before we received our order and then headed to a table. The tables were cleared, but they hadn't been wiped down or at least not very well. We picked one that was in better shape than the others and ate our meal. Next time, I would take my order to-go or pick somewhere else if I wanted to dine in. read more

What a massive downgrade this McDonald's is compared to what we experience in Texas. First, always order at the counter do not use their touchscreens. You have to beg for everything. You have to beg for ketchup, beg for a napkin, ask for a straw, get the key to the bathroom. Shockingly, they have NO drink refills. It's a gigantic hassle to have a simple meal. In Texas, napkins, and ketchup is available to diners, and you can get all the refills you want. At this McDonald's there are no drink refills. Avoid. read more

I remember visiting Laie Mcdonald's years ago, the old Mcdonald's use to be where Courtyard Marriott is located. They trade places, thats cool. That was the last time we visited and now since we stayed at Courtyard this Mcdonald's was super convenient. A less than 5 mins walk from the hotel. If you are visiting the islands, Mcdonald's has a few local menu items like the local breakfast platter which comes with spam and local sausage, saimin, special pies like taro or haupia pie ( seasonal) and the 1.00 any sized coffee which is Royal Kona brand. During our stay at the hotel, ( I know, I know. not great choices!) we visited twice in one day for breakfast and lunch later. Everyone was lazy to go elsewhere. I walked over to grab the 2 local deluxe breakfast platter, which you pay a little more for twice the size, hash browns, and of course 2 large coffee and took it back to our room. Then later that afternoon, I walked over to grab us lunch, filet of fish, saimin, big mac, chicken mcnuggets, fries, cheeseburger, and shakes. For some reason, as my other half mentioned sharing the meal in our hotel room and eating together as a family made this Mcdonalds meal taste even better. I agree! From my observation of this Mcdonald's they do get super busy, there are self order kiosk, fairly new, nice, modern with a great view. The managers and cashier do work hard to get your orders out. We waited less than 10 minutes for our orders. Overall, no one eats at Mcdonald's twice in a day but lets just make this day an exception for my family, So convenient during our hotel stay. read more

Just giving an update after one year. McDonald's in Laie is still price gouging all of its customers. They are manipulating their digital menu screen to increase prices during rush-hour. Not one time do the prices ever become a better deal for customers who are simply going through the drive-through. The owner is still charging almost a dollar for extra sauce packets. I don't think the owner step foot inside the store due to the amount of people that are upset with the crappy service and overall greediness of her ways. Today I decided to try this next door Mc D to see if they are different than the other Mc D I've tried and dreaded. Honestly, I am beginning to think that Mc D Co. does train their employees to limit giving away proper amount of utensil and condiments to the point that the consumers have no choice but to beg for those items themselves. I ordered 2 of the big breakfast platter today, and when the order was ready, I decided to 'check' the completion of the order & saw that they ONLY included 1 container of syrup, so I decided to ask for an extra container. So I thought that was the only item missing right? Wrong, of course something else had to go wrong. As soon As I got back to my hotel room, as soon as I opened the bag, I found out that they only gave us 1 hash brown and 1 set of utensil, and no jelly or honey for the biscuits. Disappointing, I will be checking on their progress in fixing this problem, and will keep on posting the results every time to see if the corporate is listening or ignoring their consumers voices read more

BEST VIEW/BEST FOOD This might be the only McDonalds on this island with an ocean view. It's Air-conditioned, and after a whole entire weekend camping in the humid sticky beach air, air conditioning feels heavenly. The staff on 9/10/17 12noon was the most friendly, helpful staff I have ever seen at any McDonalds. There was a guy on duty mopping up spills, wiping down tables, keeping the whole seating area nice and clean. BUSY DRIVE THROUGH Double drive through (2 lanes). Food is fresh! Salad was not wilted, the grilled chicken was warm. I've never had a better McDonalds salad anywhere else. It's a McDonalds, but it's not just any McDonalds. This is a 5-star McDonalds. Some of the other ones on this island are dirty and the staff doesn't give a crap...but this one stands out. read more
