The place is very small and because of that you have to check in at a small window before going inside. It can get very busy and always go mid week for that reason. What the Sunrise Shack lacks in size it more than makes up for with its personality and, of course, its yummy food. It's small yet cozy and homey. The staff is always welcoming and cheerful. And perhaps most importantly, the breakfast always hits the spot. During our most recent visit my boyfriend got blueberry pancakes and I got biscuits and gravy, which I had once before and had a hankering for it again. It was just as hearty and delicious as I remembered it from the last time. The blueberry pancakes were very yummy too. As a side note, if you ask for hot sauce with your meal they have a variety bucket for the table, which is a nice little bonus for hot sauce fiends such as myself. Whether you want your breakfast to be healthy or hearty, or whether you're filling up before going on a rigorous hike or going shopping in the North Conway town center, you simply can't go wrong with The Sunrise Shack.

I had the 1/2 & 1/2 Combo ($5.25), a half Turkey Special Sandwich and a small bowl of Cream of Potato Soup & saltine crackers. The Turkey Special was pretty good, which had roast turkey breast, stuffing, cranberry sauce, lettuce, & mayo on soft oatmeal bread. The Cream of Potato soup was rich & filling with chunks of potatoes and bacon in a thick and creamy cheddar broth. The staff came out of the kitchen to ask how the food was. Overall the food was simple and fresh, and tasted pretty good. Including 2 cans of Diet Coke, the total for lunch for 2 was $12, a great value for this touristy area. It's a little dark inside, and neat clean and tidy. The decor is pretty dated and a little on the feminine side. The staff checked on us and others a couple times to see how things were and to see if we needed anything else - nice touch for a place where you order and pay at the counter. We ordered sandwiches - I had the Monte Cristo which came with 3 small apple slices and my husband ordered the Turkey Reuben on Rye, also with 3 small apple slices. Our food came out pretty quickly, freshly made to order. I love Monte Cristo sandwiches, and this one was the first I've had made with honey mustard dressing. It just didn't seem to go with it, in my opinion, and I'm glad I asked for it on the side. The sandwich itself was average, although I think it should be named something other than a Monte Cristo. My husband's sandwich was pretty good. And it turned out the apple slices were actually a nice accompaniment to the sandwiches, even though you only get three and they're very small and thin. We had the homemade corned beef hash with huge chunks of meat, scrambled eggs, home fries and English muffin. We also had the make your own omelet which was loaded with everything. It was big and fluffy also served with home fries and English muffin. I'm not usually a fan of big chunk potatoes but I think these were deep fried or maybe convection oven because they were crispy on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside. Now to the other part of my review. We had coffee and water. When my water came there was something floating in it AND the glass had 3 food items stuck to the inside, which does happen sometimes after it comes from the dishwasher, but still people should be checking for these kinds of things. The coffee. Each table was given a carafe which I thought was great because you don't have to wait for a second cup if you want more coffee. The table is set with trays of assorted sugars and bowls of refrigerator-type creamers. First cup of coffee was fine.. second cup not so much. When I made my second cup, the creamer curdled which I informed the waitress, but now it turned me off and didn't another cup. So creamers are being left out/not rotated. The OJ looked good, lots of pulp but it was actually watered down. Good thing it was included in our breakfast package because if we had to pay $3 for it like most restaurants we would have sent it back. Then, just by chance, because of the direction that I chose to sit, I got to witness the girls clearing and resetting the tables. They cleared the plates, wiped the tables down, touched the chairs pushing them all in, put out place mats, napkins, and then without over washing their hands, proceeded to set the silverware by placing them down touching EVERY piece by the opposite end. Like literally every piece, she touched the tines of every fork, the round part of every spoon, the cutting edge of every butter knife. Not the handle but the part that touches your food. Why on earth would you set the silverware by touching that part?? Thankfully our food hadn't shown up yet so I polished off my silverware with my napkin although I had used my spoon for my coffee. I have said this in the past, I think EVERY person that works with anything that has to do with food should be required by LAW to take sanitation classes. Yes maybe nobody got sick yesterday, but why would any establishment want to risk that when it is something that can easily be avoided with a little common sense. Ok, rant over!
