Ehhhh... it's a standard bar. Has booth tables as well. Downtown New Paltz doesn't really seem to have a night life other than eating dinner and drinking at bars. This one bar seems to stay open later than most. Plays music and music videos on the screen. Crowd starts older 30-40's then becomes young (like a early twenties feel) after a certain time... at least that's how it was when I went. You will be doing yourself an injustice if you don't try their spinach dip in the bread bowl, their wings, mac and cheese bites or the weekly specials. Monday's are wing night so your best bet would be to get there early and make it a point to try the gold rush sauce and habanero honey buffalo. If you are more of a salad person, they have different options to make any leaf lover happy. Try out the cobb salad with blackened salmon and you will thank me. Wings were pretty damn good, nightlife scene is wastecase SUNY college. Loved going here back when I was in school, but not sure if I could take it so much now. I had a fish bowl and it tasted like gatorade so not sure thats worth the price tag on it ($20.) Thankfully it was my bruhs bday so it was free. My other brahh did the 2 lb burger challege and COMPLETED IT!! Holllaaaa 2 pounds of burger, with the fluffiest bun and a pound of fries in under 25 minutes. I have been to this establishment many times within the past few years. It's your typical town bar/restaurant but the staff and food is great! They have a large selection of different sauces for their hot wings, go hot or go home! Great comfort food! Classic Irish Pub feel! I'm not really sure why this place has such bad reviews. Maybe it's because it's just a simple Irish pub and folks are expecting more then comfort food? In any event we went in for lunch with a group of 13 (family, kids and all) the one waiter we had (Josh) was on top of everything. The big group didn't intimidate him at all and the service was excellent! Everyone enjoyed their food and everyone was happy and full when we left. I don't really get mad at slow service when I eat places, but being blatantly ignored while trying to order is a little different. When our waitress did bring out our food, she spilled sauce ALL over the back of someone at our table and didn't even realize until after the fact. And by spill I mean there was literally a river of sauce down the persons back. When we asked if we could get the fries for free since she spilled sauce all over our friends back and jacket, she wasn't sure. She did come back later and say they would comp the fries but not the drink they ordered. I took a quick trip up to New Paltz, NY which I noted in another Yelp! and on my second day after helping a friend around their property the need to feed hit me. A quick ride back into town at this very popular Irish pub. The space was roomy for sure and I got a nice booth with my friend. The jukebox was playing some solid Classic Rock that found me tapping on the table (an annoying habit I know but I did play drums for more than 20 years). Anyway, I ordered an Angry Orchard cider as I trying to avoid beer for a few weeks and an order of their Volcanic Wings. Truth be told the wings were super tasty but not as volcanic as one would expect. More taste than mouth numbing heat which I prefer. I complimented these wings with an order of waffle fries that while enjoyable did get cold too fast and offered me up a bit too much grease. I would order a burger next time for sure to sample their fare and totally share some wings with another diner but the waffle fries will find a replacement. Our server was totally awesome and I even showed her the Foodspotting app to help encourage great finds in food. Hopefully I get to come here again sometime but who knows when. read more

DO NOT COME HERE! McGillicuddy's has the worst customer service I have ever seen. Walking in the bouncer was disgustingly rude, made all of us pay double what they asked the group ahead of us. When we asked why, she lied to our face and said its the same price for everyone. I was visiting a friend on New Paltz and wanted to go out. The places she recommended were all packed (friday night). We found some space at this bar. I guess there was a reason this was the only bar we found with ample space on a weekend. It was pretty generic, and didn't really seem to know what type of place it wanted to be...neighborhood, wanna-be upscale tap-house? I don't know. The service was super slow and extremely rude. The portions were pretty large, but food was bland and unoriginal. The whole staff seemed pissed at being there (which in general is a sign of poor management. When we get bored of day drinking at Soyuzivka in Kerhonkson during the Ukrainian Labor Day Festival, this is one of our first stops when we're able to sucker someone into DDing us into downtown New Paltz. What more could you ask for out of a neighborhood bar? Decent pub fare, cold beers, cheap drinks, and hot waitresses. Our server, who I will not name online out of respect because maybe it was a bad night, had the worst attitude out out any server I have ever had. Rolling her eyes at the table if we asked for a refill, and didn't even bring my friend his refill, he had to ask multiple times. Refused to split our bill in half (2ways) by the way, it's not like it was 6 checks. Food was good, at least the mozzarella sticks and chicken tenders were, ceaser salad tasted powdery, which was a strange taste. To top it off, we emailed the managers through the website, hoping for maybe some compensation for a next visit to see if our experience would be better if we went again, explaining everything that happened, just to never hear back from them. I would like to give thanks for the memories I've had at McGillicuddy's over the years BUT last Friday was a pure blast of entertainment. The past weekend was our New Paltz Chapter of Kappa Sigma's 20th Alumni anniversary. I was in town only on Friday, but the hour spent in Cuddy's that night was beyond amusing as hell. While 90% of our guys were getting hammered across the street at P&G's for at least three hours, three of us were quite hungry. Myself, my frat bros Biff & Bobby V headed over to Cuddy's. We were not exactly sober, but hungry nonetheless. We got a table next to 4 pretty CURRENT college students. I'm on the left, Bob is next to me and Biff is across from us. Here's a little bit of the astonishing dialog that night. **(I remember this because I wasn't THAT drunk, I still had to drive home later, so I was actually slowing down. The others were beyond any help.)** After ordering and peering to our left: Bob: Hey guuurlssss. Man, you guys are hot. You wanna beer? (looking around) I'm hungry. (stuffing menu under his shirt) Biff: (Silent) Girl 1: Are you guys alumni? (So we OBVIOUSLY look old I guess) Me: Yes. Kappa Sig reunion. Girl 2: Your friend is cute. Bob: Yoouuu meaaan me? Biff: She means me man. (Pitcher of beer arrives) Hostess: (jokingly) Don't hassle these girls. I don't want trouble. Me: I apologize in advance for what will happen... What happens next? Lets see... Biff knocked over his pint all over the table. Bob knocked over his pint all over the table. The 4 girls kept making jokes about my maroon & gold striped J.Crew tie by wanting to know when I was getting on the train to Hogwarts. Bob knocked over his burger on the floor, picked it up without the top part of the bun and spent the next 6 minutes trying to convince the waitress that she gave him the burger with no top on it. LOL!!! He also tried to take one of the girl's hats off her head. Bob also needed ketchup for his topless burger. Apparently, he emptied the whole bottle on his right leg!! Luckily, I walked out of there spotless with still no knowledge of who paid the bill. I did enjoy my chicken fingers and fries platter. The one year I lived in New Paltz, I was at Cuddy's a lot. Best wings in town and the food has never let me down. It's all about the wings. I wish I could eat here more often but I don't get to New Paltz as much as I would like to. First visit: My husband goes there to watch a game. It was a cold rainy day so he was wearing a sweater with a hood on his head. The guy at the door ordered him to take the hood off as soon as he stepped in, otherwise he was not allowed entrance. All my husband wanted was to get warm. He was coming in from the cold. Not nice. You can ask in a good way and also understand that someone with not much hair might get cold outside and would want to warm up some before taking the hood off. Second visit: Both of us went on another opportunity. We wanted to watch a football game. The place was not packed, it was mid afternoon. We asked if they could put our game on any TV. The answer was no. There were empty areas where there were TVs no one was watching but they still said no. The only choice was a small TV on the corner of the bar that we could barely see. We wanted to watch our game so decided to stay and ordered a couple of drinks. During half time we gave up and went to try another bar, after paying an expensive bill for a diet coke and a beer. We went to Murphy's, across the street. They were happy to put our game on a TV, the prices are reasonable and that has been our bar to watch our games (even university football) since then. They are friendly, willing to give awesome customer service and find a solution for our game requests. THAT is how you treat your customers! read more

Oh McGillicuddy's...what have you done? It's been over 10 years since i was a young student of New Paltz and would come here religiously every Monday for Wing night. Ok - so prices going up is one thing...we have to survive with the times i understand that, but quality diminishing, that's unforgivable. And if anyone is saying that it's the nostalgia getting to me i assure you it isn't. The wings are good - but i guess i went too early, b/c the wings had a hint of being frozen and not exactly as fresh as they could have been. But then again ordering wings when it's not wing night on monday is a faux pas anyway. I got the Gold Fever (Which is 3rd on the top hottest wings in the place with a new flavor called Pepper Spray). I remember when red hot bbq was the hottest thing on the menu and that would melt your face off painfully. I can't imagine this pepper spray one. There were a few new flavors like awesome sauce which is a mix of a buttery and sweet buffalo sauce. Here's where i got upset at the quality of the food. The Irish nachos. They used to be piled high with guacomole, diced onions, tomatos, melted cheese sour cream and even black olives! It was all missing! There was none of that, just some cheese melted over the waffle cut fries. It was very very disappointing. I had the spicy chicken sandwich which come out with no spices and a dry bun with nothing, a house salad which was a pile of iceberg lettuces with one (1) slice of cucumber. when I told them I got the spicy chicken they took it back DUMPED A PILE OF DRY, RAW SEASONING ON IT AND GAVE IT BACK. It was basically UN-eatable. We also got wings but they were OUT of dressing and celery. The kicker is they double rang an item and over charged us by $12. Let's get things straight. I have close friends (who are expert food critics) that would drive over an hour just to experience their wings. They raved, and so I had to see for myself. For me, the best part about the wings was how many different sauces you can choose from. Don't get it confused with the miserable sauces that Buffalo Wild Wings offers; the wings are Cuddy's are actually fantastic. They have that great buffalo flavor, with a hint of that buttery taste too. I can't recall any wings I've had that are better than these. Suck it B dubs. We all know that you gotta order a substantial about of beer if you're going to be eating buffalo wings. This is where Cuddy's lost some stars. They have around 5 beers on tap that aren't named bud or coors light, and they are all the type of beers that you don't want to drink with wings (think double white's, stouts, and 7%+ ABV). They need to have a better selection of drafts for normal people. I guess it's because the town is full of hippies who have weird palate's and don't eat meat. We normally go to The Gilded Otter when we come to New Paltz but this time we decided to try something different. P&G was packed so we came here. The hostess was very nice and brought some toys for the kids. They weren't very busy yet and we asked the hostess how quickly they could get us served because we had a dog waiting for us in the car. She said she would let the chef know and that it shouldn't be a problem. From there the dinner went down hill. Our waitress was unfriendly and clearly did not have the patience to deal with us. When we repeated our request to have dinner served quickly she said we're busy and that it wasn't going to happen. We tried smiling, ordering politely and asking questions but she was just not going to be friendly if it killed her. The food was fine but there were no health options. In the end our dinner took about 45 minutes to be served and we rushed out of there. Based on the food, we might have considered stopping here again but based on the service, we will never come back. Ok so this past weekend I went to see my daughter up at New Paltz University. I always like to try a different restaurant in town. So for lunch I found this establishment. They had a sign that said best wings in Hudson Valley. I will be honest this alone sold me. Wings, Nachos and Beers are 3 things that I Love to try at different restaurants so here's my review. They have a nice selections of wings. Once I saw the gold rush that was the one. I used to go to a spot up the block that closed down that had these and they were amazing!!! So I ordered 10 and 10 Brazilian Heat which is a dry rub. I ordered them well done and I kid you not they came out in under 5 mins. Right away I knew they weren't done well like I asked. The Gold Rush was ok. The Brazilian Dry Rub was to salty do my taste We also ordered Nachos and they were horrible. They took chunks of burger patty's and put it up nicely on some chips. To me the Nachos as well were horrible. The server Michelle was very nice and pleasant and made sure to check up on us. Overall place really didn't make me too crazy. Don't think I will be checking them out again. Lots of more choices on the Ave... Oh I forgot my Guinness Beer came out warm!!! read more

Extremely disappointed in our food last night. Place was very busy, but got a table right away. Watched service staff really work hard to get the food out quickly. We both ordered the cowboy burgers. Were not drinkers so that did not help the experience. We waited an extended bit for our food, which given 7p on a saturday night was very reasonable. But when the food came, mediocare is an understatement. Burgers had been pre cooked, were barely warm, onion crisps on the burger were not fried, not crisp, they were soggy.....to top that off the waffle fries were cold. Now we did not complain, i choose to just eat 5he burger without the roll as i needed the protein , my friend choose to take most of hers home to reheat for another day. My real issue was quality control in the kitchen. Par frying burgers is not a good way to go, people will wait for a good meal , do it right from the start. Onion crisps, should be crispy and fries should be hot. Quality control from the kitchen needs to be stepped up. read more

What happened!? McGillicuddy's used to have been one of my favorite stops in New Paltz for wings, sandwiches, and other bar foods, but the quality of the food has just slumped. I ordered boneless wings that were not even tossed in the sauce (bottom of the bowl), and it was overcooked. BEWARE if you get server Kyle, be prepared for lousy service.
