This place IS really great. With Covid, indoor seating is limited and therefore, a 45 min wait for breakfast. So opted for outside seating (27deg!) with no wait at a table with fire. While the fire didn't keep us warm, we layered up & they brought us blankets!!!! How awesome!! My husband got the vegetarian version of the potato scramble & I got the lemon ricotta pancakes. Only complaints: 1) They use fake syrup. I def didn't enjoy the pancakes as much as I would have if they had real maple syrup. This is a big one for me. 2) Every time we come to Bend (at least once per year), it astounds me how all these great restaurants lack real vegetarian options. Especially in a town like Bend. There is a plethora of veg meat options sold these days. Why not make every dish with the option to be vegetarian??? read more

This is our regular brunch spot when we travel to Bend. It's perched near the river, so a walk in the nearby park afterwards is the perfect end cap to any meal. I usually start with a Bloody Mary, and each dish I've had was delish! There's a nice kids menu as well, and we always grab something from the bakery for the ride home. We were able to sit inside (Nov.2020) ; they also have heat lamps and outdoor tables. Just be prepared to wait a bit; I don't think they take reservations. read more

Good Covid precautions, including outdoor dining around individual firepit tables! McKays lives up to its ratings. The house is charming and beautifully restored. Service was outstanding, friendly and prompt. We choose to split the Joe's Scramble. With a huge, very tasty marion berry scone and crisp fried potatoes it was plenty for the 2 of us. Fresh ingredients made the scramble wonderful. The coffee is a proprietary local roast that was excellent. And they serve it by the pot! We were offered a to go cup without asking. I think this restaurant sets a new bar for 5 stars in my future reviews. This place pays attention to detail like no other! They make everything from raw ingredients including ketchup and hot sauce - although commercial off the shelf products are also available. Their scones are "to die for". I tried plain, marionberry, and another one that escapes me at the moment. Having only sampled breakfast here, other meals may disappoint but I'm confident you will enjoy anything on the menu because of the conscientious way they treat food. Great little breakfast place in a great little town! My wife and I were looking for a good brunch spot as we were driving back home after a great weekend in Bend. We found this highly rated restaurant on yelp and we were not disappointed! I got the classic Benny (pictured) and my wife got a scramble. FOOD Really generous portions! Even the Benedict, which is kind of a uniformly sized dish, somehow was bigger. I only ate half and had to pack up the other. The food itself was really good. Just classic home style comfort breakfast. Nothing AMAZING that I would need to have again before I die, but really good. SERVICE/PRICE The service was good. Our waiter was just the kind I like, not chatty at all and just really efficient. They give you a pot of coffee instead of just refilling your cup so that makes it much more convenient. The bill was more than fair. You can expect 10-15 on a dish, which I think is normal for a big brunch. LOCATION It's about 10 minutes out of central Bend but it's North so it's on the way if you're headed out of bend in that direction. It's in a parking lot of an office complex so a lot of the parking spaces have signs that say no parking. My daughter was visiting from Spain and I took her here! We did not hold back! We had Mango mimosas, Mama's Cinnamon French toast, the All American breakfast with scrambled eggs, fresh baked scone and a side of bacon ! The service was truly 5 star! Unfortunately, this is not a common find in Bend these days. Our waitress was always checking in and was truly a pleasure! We sat in the warm, cozy tent outside and truly had a memorable experience! My friend and I were told we had to go here when we were in Bend and thank god we did!! We had the option of sitting inside or outside but both felt more comfortable sitting outside so we waited longer for a table outside. We had to wait about 30 minutes but it was a very pleasant experience...we were able to order coffee/beverages while we waited, plus there were benches for us to sit. We were very happy with the seating situation. The tables were super spread out so we had lots of space and felt safe. Abraham was our server and he was the best! We decided to split the breakfast burrito and the lemon ricotta pancakes. They even split both dishes in half for us, knowing we were going to share which we definitely weren't expecting! I have only eaten here once, but it will be difficult to give them another shot. I ordered a veggie omelette. The veggies were raw, cold and hard. Zucchini, mushrooms ect. Some were warm from the eggs sitting on top, but these veggies never saw the inside of a skillet or pan. Aside from the veggies there wasn't salt on any piece of food on this plate including these potato things they served. I would have mentioned it to the waitress but she never stopped by after dropping it off. I never thought there could be the worst omelette of my life but this was the worst omelette of my life. We hadn't been to Mckay Cottage Restaurant in several years. The menu has gotten smaller and very expensive. Not used to paying over $50 for breakfast. I was all set to have the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes but to my dismay, the waitress said they are a seasonal item and were not on the menu. My wife ordered the Vegetarian Cottage Potato. This dish could have easily fed 2 people. It was a mound of eggs, veggies, and potatoes. All egg dishes come with a scone. This scone was a peach, blackberry. Somewhat dry. If you lathered it with butter it would be better. The only critic was the potatoes could have been crispier. I went with the Carnitas Hash. Comes with potatoes, black beans, onions, carnitas, 2 poach eggs, avocado, and topped off with crema. My dish tasted great. My scone was supposed to be a jalapeno and cheese. I subbed for a Marionberry instead. Didn't know I was charged $2.50 for the change. My scone was way drier than my wife's. Took a few bites and was done. Not too good. Very good service. The waitress was kind, and informative and gave us numerous refills. Don't know If I am willing to make a future trip. read more

By the time we left, there was a backup at the door and some patrons were opting for the patio, even with the low temperature. So, it's popular. Tables are a little too packed together in the main room and it's a bit loud from the acoustics. We fortunately were seated in the smaller, quieter back room which as a bonus has a bunch of cool, old books on the shelves. Food: - Despite reading Linda K's review saying the biscuits & gravy is a tad too sweet, I ordered it anyway. Yep, it's a tad too sweet. And a huge serving! OMG, with that heap of potatoes included, I would have been satisfied with a third of it. Seriously, who eats that amount of food? - Two egg scrambles (I forget what they're called on the menu exactly) were fine, although one came with sausage mixed in. The person ordering it misread the menu, thinking the sausage would be on the side (links or patties) and planned to give them to me. She ended up not eating the eggs. As I type this review, I'm eating them as leftovers. They're good. Service was top tier. Efficient, friendly. I'd rate McKay higher but I really am over the 'house converted to a restaurant' thing. While the ambiance is super nice when there aren't hordes of patrons, it's considerably less so when there are. read more

We came for lunch and really enjoyed our meal. The portions are large and worth the prices. The staff was friendly The restaurant is in a quaint cottage home with a sizable patio for outdoor dining. At the end of our meal, we had a nice surprise. Our server gave us two free chocolate chip cookies. We saved them for later in the evening for a snack and absolutely loved them. We waited about an hour, but once seated were attended to and had our food brought over quickly. The service is excellent! The staff is welcoming and attentive. The food: Scones - delicious! Served hot with butter and jam. 5/5 Hoodoo hash - made with crispy sweet potato and tender brisket. The poached eggs were over done so we missed out on the runny yolk experience and the dish needed salt. 4/5 Buenos Dias Benedict - so much flavor! Spicy from the chorizo (flavorful spice not hot spice), sweet from the pickled onions, salty from the cheddar biscuit, creamy from the yolk and hollandaise. One of the eggs was over cooked but the one that wasn't made for a perfect bite. 4/5 My husband mentioned he didn't like sweet potatoes and our server mentioned they were yellow sweet potatoes not yams. He took a gamble and tried it - didn't end up liking the dish purely out of preference. I was surprised at a 25 minute wait at 10 a.m. on a Monday, but it was worth the wait. We came in for breakfast while on a camping trip to Bend and I'm so glad we did! I had the lemon ricotta pancakes and I think they were the best pancakes I've ever had. They had the perfect amount of lemon flavor! I also nibbled off of the cottage potato scramble that my husband ordered and it was also very good! AND the vanilla latte we shared was one of the best ones I've ever had. The eggs Benedict was absolute perfection at McKay cottage! My mom and I came in for brunch and the place was hopping. We both had a Bloody Mary and they were delicious. We waited 20 minutes for a first available table and ended up in their outdoor heated tent. There are little fire pits and chairs setup outside for those waiting and several people ordered drinks and enjoyed the beautiful weather outside while waiting for their table. Tables are spaced out and the tent was a lovely place to eat. By the time we finished our meal, the wait was over an hour. This place is very popular, but worth the wait so make sure you aren't in a hurry if you choose to eat here. read more
