Definitely just a pretty basic stop. We are local to Central Oregon but stayed the night in Bend so we decided to check it out. Food was pretty bland definitely felt like no seasonings were used at all. Biscuits and gravy was just not it. At all. The biscuits were hard and dry almost over baked? And the gravy was as weirdly sweet and just had an off putting taste. We maybe had two bites of it then just ate the potatoes ( they were nice and crispy.) The service was pretty good host was nice. We didn't see our sever after we ordered food until she dropped off the check when is meh fine. The place its self is cute, we were able to sit inside and it was nice but it got very loud at times so loud we couldn't even carry out a full conversation. Had a little getaway in Bend and came to this amazing joint for brunch! It was so good and our waitress was very kind! I wasn't too sure about having a Bloody Mary but she offered to serve me a smaller glass and if I didn't like it she would comp it it was perfect though! This place is great. We were a party of 2, went on a beautiful Sunday around 10 and had a 35 minute wait. We asked for outdoor seating because we had our two pups. Like others have said, their outdoor seating area is huge and comfortable. It was so sweet of them to bring a water bowl for every table with a pup and they even brought them both their own giant milk bone treat! The food was tasty. We also loved that they bring you a pitcher of coffee and a whole little container of creamer (we paid $1 extra for oat milk). It was $42 total for two, we each had a breakfast meal and a coffee. We also paid $2.50 extra to get the summer scone over the regular one. I'm not a big fan of scones anyway and this one was no different from any other I've had. This restaurant may have just taken the top spot as my favorite brunch place, and as my wife astutely observed "That's saying something". Excellence is achieved before you've even sat down at your table. Sunday Brunch waits are notoriously long, but ours went by fast because the separate counter service gives you an opportunity to gaze at all the beautiful goodies and order a tea/coffee. Of course, the SAMPLES of fresh baked goodies and FREE coffee also helps. Even on brisk mornings, the heat lamps and ample room on the porch ensures your wait will be cozy! The "Smoked Brisket Benedict" was my favorite dish of the day. The chipotle hollandaise sauce is the best I've ever had because of its zing. The ooey gooey poached egg is perfectly suited to soak into a biscuit which - in a truly inspired and totally pro move - is GRILLED on the open sides. The "Stuffed French Toast" and "Croissant French Toast" are both must-try's. Since both are made with croissants, it won't be the thick, gooey French toast experience as with Brioche, but the crispy buttery flavor is a welcome change and so much better than simple French toast. Definitely top them with fruits! You gotta get the potatoes in some form, either in the "McKay Cottage Potatoes" which is a sick scramble of gooey cheese and great vegetables, or simple order a side dish of them. The potatoes are lightly seasoned with salt and perfectly fried so they're not greasy at all but not dry either. The "Home Made Ketchup" is a perfect accompaniment because the stuff is thicker than Heinz and just the right amount of sweetness. I can't wait to come back to Bend for what truly is the best breakfast spot in central Oregon and maybe even in Oregon overall! read more

We've stopped by this very busy restaurant a few times but never wanted to wait. This time we did wait and it was definitely worth it! Service is spot on, they all work every well together, and the breakfast was huge! We could have easily split, but who knew. We each had the Carnitas Hash and a Bloody Mary, both were very good! Worth the wait!!! Went on a Saturday morning in late August, party of 4 of us, & the wait was about 45 mins around 9:30am. We put in a drink order at the designated outdoor area & had a seat in their outdoor waiting area. The indoor seating looked cute (I caught a glimpse of it when I went in to use the restroom), but we sat outdoors on a beautiful morning. Our server was pleasant and attentive & our food came out correct & in a reasonable amount of time. I love that they offer very fresh ingredients & options that really nourish the body & don't weigh you down into a food coma (although there are indulgent options for that too if that's your thing!) I ordered the Guac n' Roll (I ordered my 2 eggs poached), and the hubs ordered the West Coast Benedict - see photos. Overall the food was okay other than I am not a fan of dry cold breakfast potatoes. I have eaten here a number of time over the years and always forget how poor the hash browns are. If you are looking for them to do eggs over medium they only know how to cook over easy. The scone and beacon they serve was the best part of the breakfast. You know what? You don't even need me to tell you how good this food was. Make up ANY excuse you can to go here and fill up on some of the most delicious, scratch-made brunch items!! The crab avocado and summer corn tostada was exactly what you wanted it to be: the crisp earthy note of the in-house corn tortilla gives a needed textural counterpoint to the enveloping verdant smoothness from the avocado. The perfect balance of salt in the dish let the sweetness of the crab shine through and was amplified by the summer corn. The mango and poblano brought some brightness and subtle spice and when everyone got in the pool...you've got mouth symphony. Tasty tasty mouth symphony. The croissant-style French toast was just as big and buttery and lusciously custardy as you could want. The higher protein developed in the gluten structure of the croissant actually prevented the French toast from becoming "droopy." The scratch made sausages are a reason to risk Lipitor. The toothy grind lets you know you are getting home made goodness and the salt balance never overpowered the deft seasoning. The scones are...sweet mercy. The lightness. The powerful and direct flavors. The fluffy and bountiful and moist crumb structure. This Bend breakfast hot spot was busy the day I was there but I was seated at a cozy table right away. The menu is extensive and I settled on the Baja Chicken Hash Stack. I'm a big guy with a big appetite, but I couldn't finish this giant of a plate piled high with stewed chicken, hashed brown potatoes, a sprinkle of corn kernels, slices of poblano peppers, onion and a delicious Mexican style sauce. If that wasn't enough, this pile is topped with two poached eggs bathed in hollandaise sauce and a garnish of scallions. I'm a biscuits and gravy lover and enjoy trying B&G at various places. On our way out of Bend, we stopped at McKay's and, of course, I ordered B&G as usual. This time, I found the gravy too sweet (oddly enough) for MY taste, but others may find it wonderful. I mentioned my concern to our server about the sweetness and the owner (?) came to my table and we talked about it. Here's the thing that got them a five star review: McKays bent over backwards to make me happy. Their customer service was incredible! They were VERY busy, yet they took the time to come to our table to discuss my "problem" and find away to make me happy. Will we go back again? Absolutely! This review is long overdue. We love McKay Cottage Restaurant. The wait was a bit long but the service and food are amazing. They also have coffee available while you wait. The staff is very kind and accommodating, family friendly. Very thoughtful about children and they provide fruit, coloring and wiki sticks for kids entertainment while adults order. The inside and outside set up ambiance is very nice and comfortable with heaters available outside when it's cold. We love coming here when we are in Bend. read more
