O.K., I hate to be the "bad guy" when a company gets a bunch of five-star ratings but I had two separate experiences with McNair's and they were both bad. Prefacing Remark: I love my car. First Incident: The dreaded "Check Engine" light came on. McNair's came highly recommended and I checked "Yelp" and everything looked great with so many five-star ratings. Took my car in and Kevin, the Manager, was terrific; good sense of humor, efficient, and personable. Had them check the CE light, and while I was there had them change the oil & filter and align the vehicle. Turned out that an ignition coil was bad so they replaced the three rear coils (appropriate to do this), changed the oil & filter, and aligned my baby. I picked up the car and as soon as I began to drive away the CE light went back on. They spent an additional half-hour+ fiddling with it until they got the light to go off permanently. I drove home happy. The next day I noticed that there was grease all over the inside of the car and on the outside driver's door, major shoe scuffs on the driver's door panel and driver's threshold, and someone had put something heavy on the leather passenger seat that made two permanent indentations. PLUS, the steering wheel was now crooked, even though the car tracked straight so was apparently in alignment. Took the car back the next day and Kevin was very apologetic, cleaned the grease inside and out, scuff marks, had the steering wheel straightened immediately, and apologized profusely. Again, I drove home happy. HOWEVER, I noticed that the car's suspension seemed different--kind of rode like a buckboard. After an irritating week of bumping down the road I finally got down on all fours to check my tire pressure. The alignment invoice said "Set air pressure front/rear to 30." That's what the factory recommends. Well, sir, one tire was at 34 1/2, the other was at 35 1/2, and two were at 36 psi! No wonder the ride was so hard. Yes, the higher inflation saves gas but factory specs say 30 psi and I prefer a gentler ride. Again, I was incensed. I'm 72 years old and don't like having to get down on all fours and check up on what my mechanic has done! Second Incident: I wanted to give Kevin and his boys the benefit of the doubt so five days later I took my second car in for a new crankcase air filter and battery replacement. Told Kevin that I wanted their best and longest-lasting battery to be installed. He agreed and said that their best is a 42-month unit. I said ok and went to lunch. When I returned I picked up the car left. About 30 minutes later I got a call from Kevin; again apologizing. They'd put a 24-month battery in my car instead of the 42 that I'd paid $136 for! Of course, that necessitated yet ANOTHER trip to the shop to get the batteries swapped out. This was "only" an inconvenience but it was another hour-and-a-half for me to drive down, wait for the battery swap, and return home. The quality control in this shop leaves much to be desired. SUMMARY. Here's what went wrong: They couldn't get the "Check Engine" light to go off Grease smeared inside and outside the car Shoe scuff marks on door panel and threshold Leather seat had two permanent indentations from something heavy Steering wheel was crooked after the alignment Tires were grossly overinflated They installed the wrong battery. Sorry to give a one-star rating because Kevin is a good guy but his mechanics are careless and don't seem to care about quality work. I don't think I'm going back--unless they call me again and tell me they installed the wrong parts! * * * February 11, 2019 UPDATE * * * The day following my initial posting the owner, Larry, called me to touch bases. He made it clear several times during our conversation that he did not call to make excuses, rather to talk with me and explain that he was sorry that my experience was so poor and was going to use my Yelp review as training material for his staff. He also offered me a gift card to a local restaurant for lunch, not as a bribe but as recompense for my negative experiences. I told him that the gift card was not necessary, that I appreciated his time to call me and discuss my experience; and that I would re-think whether I'd return to his shop for more service/repairs. I'm impressed that Management cared enough to contact me by phone and use the experience to improve, at least in my case, their quality of service. Thank you, Larry. read more

I had an AMAZING experience here. I was recently turned away at America's tire up the street because they wanted to sell me a new tire they couldn't patch for idk what reasons. It was a nail in the middle not the end or corner it was safe to patch. So I left and came here to McNairs Auto repair and I was treated kindly welcomed with open arms I left my car there and came back to pick it up patched and perfect at no cost. I first went into McNairs at the advice of a friend I work with when I had a different mechanic mess up my brakes on a routine break pad replacement . McNairs fixed it easily and cheaply and with nary an unkind word about the other place. Essentially the pads were not placed right, but after fixing it the brakes were great. I have used them subsequently for oil changes and the like and have always been pleasantly surprised at both the owners friendliness and their prices. I'll be the first to admit that when it comes to cars (and probably lots of other things ) I'm a danger to myself and anyone around me. So its nice to have a good mechanic nearby . read more

So I found this place off of yelp, I travel all over SoCal for work which meant I was due for an oil change. I've had my honda for about 3 years and new it was time for my brakes to be changed, however I forgot about it. Long story short, I made a call at 0730 on a Friday and asked if they were busy, the nice man replied stating, "We're not too busy, come right on in and we'll take care of you." Perfect, so I got in my car and went on by. They were nice enough to drive me home as I waited for my service to be done, they did this because like I said, it was a Friday morning and they received a couple cars all at once when I arrived. As I waited for my car at home, they called me and told me I had a few mm left on my brake pads, whoops! I had forgotten all about that, so I asked them for a quote on that and it was the usual I pay at my old shop back home! I had them fix me up with new brakes and it only took an additional 20 mins. They were super quick considering they had about 4 cars at the shop. Very nice people work here, I have no complaints, I took forever to write this review just to test out my brakes. I dropped my car off when they opened and not even 3 hours later they had not only repaired my brakes and rotors but also rotated my tires! I just want to say that my experience working with McNair's was excellent. I had questions about a transmission rebuild over the weekend and their communication was excellent and the estimate very reasonable compared to other shops. Ultimately we didn't need a new transmission (thankfully), but we plan to use them in the future. read more

Horrible experience. They loosened the hub cap bolts on my tires but didn't tighten them again after they completed the tire rotation. The bolts fell off and now I'm about to loose 2 of my hub caps. They did nothing to fix or remedy this - probably because I'm a woman. Very condescending when I brought this to their attention. They will never touch my car again. read more

I stopped by here after finding them on yelp. They were quick to help me, test drove the car with me to understand the problem, and then I left it with them overnight to diagnose. I came back the next day, and they explained everything to me, and gave me a quote to fix the vehicle. Ultimately I decided to trade the car in, and didn't end up fixing it, however I truly felt like their customer service was top notch. I had a very positive experience at McNair's! I had some wheel damage and air leak in my tire from driving over a 4x4. I took my car into McNair's and they did a complimentary evaluation to diagnose the problem. Larry and Bob took time to explain and show me the damage and told me what I could expect from repair. They repaired it in the timeframe that they had estimated and I was back on the road! The staff at McNair's took the anxiety out of the repair process. This business needs to figure out how best to provide customer service. They do not offer any options for appointments and they do not guarantee that your car serviced and only support first come first serve which could cause multiple trips to get a basic service. I highly recommend going to another business that values customes and that provides options for appointments. Best effort service (lack their of) is all that Tim and McNair's offers! I wasn't sure if my car was having mechanical issues with my power steering wheel with it locking often or if it was a one time thing here and there. Went in with my CarMax care and dropped it off right before they closed for them to work on the car the next day. Although they couldn't replicate the problem, they didn't charge me for trying to find me the diagnosis or issue of the car. Tim & Co were very friendly, professional and most important HONEST! My husband knows a better than fair amount about cars and there could have been more charges, instead they were up front with all the information and gave us a very fair price for the work and faster than expected. I had taken in my son's 2006 Nissan Altima to have the front and brakes done and have the system bleed. Mine you that I bought my own parts rotors, pads, and calipers for the front. They charged me labor for both the front and back brakes, which I thought the brakes would be one labor price. I ended up paying $425 for a brake job so that's $250 for labor and $175 to bleed the system. I can't imagine what it would have coast me if they sold me the parts. read more

I had a nail in one of my tires that was slowly leaking air out. I work night shift so it's hard for me to get errands done during the day. I came to McNair's between shifts right after work and they fixed it right up! Kevin and his team were friendly, quick, and efficient. They patched up the tire super quick and I was out of there and on my way home within an hour. I'd also like to note that because I drive a Tesla, my tire was a bit different than most cars. Kevin went through a lot of trouble with the tire company over the phone to see if my tire needed to be replaced or if it could just be repaired. He could've easily told me I needed new tires but he was persistent even though the phone line kept getting disconnected. I definitely recommend them and will be returning for my auto repair needs :) read more

My Tacoma wouldn't start all week. I called McNairs to get a quote. He said it would be $105.00 for diagnostic, which would go toward the repaid if I had it worked on. I had it towed to the shop. I received a call that they it started right up! They started it more than 30 times, drove it around the block few times, let it sit for a while, started it again. The conclusion is they could not find anything wrong with my truck. They told me come pick it up, I asked "ok so it's 105.00, right". He said I'm not going to charge you, couldn't find anything wrong with it. I told him you spent a lot of time I would like to pay you at least half the cost. He said no it's ok! I'm really thankful for finding this place. I went here to get a second opinion about my car's head gasket which was supposedly ruined and would have cost me 1800 dollars. Here I was told it was fine and that I just had a water pump leak which would costs significantly less. Diagnostic was quick and I never felt talked down to about my lack of car knowledge. I'm unfortunately still debating or not I can afford to put more money into my car but if I ever do get repairs done I would definitely suggest this location. Called in today because my cars acceleration was very low And was making a weird noise when shifting gears. They said i could bring in it for a free code scan and road test so i packed up my 2 year old and took it down. They were very nice and professional. Within 30 minutes they figured out what it was, quoted me and gave me a ride back to my house. They had it fixed and ready to go the same day! I have 3 boys that i drive to corona everyday and couldnt afford to not have my car working and they made sure i didnt have to! They even came and picked me up when my car was ready!
