The service was quick-- ready in 10min. Tried the lunch special (cod and chips plus pop) as well as the haddock and chips. The food was fresh and hot. The batter is on the thicker side and the portion of fries was generous. Overall I would recommend!

Just tried McNies for the first time. Outstanding food and service. Joey our waitress went above and beyond to accommodate us. We couldn't believe how low the prices were! Thank you so much Joey! We will be back.

Haddock & Chips order had an impressively sized fish fillet piece along with plenty of thick cut fries underneath. For takeout, we were peeved that they used pre-packed condiments for tartar sauce rather than provide some homemade or dine-in option. But the fish itself was golden & crunchy on the outside with pleasant flaky fillet texture inside. Well worth it, and they even offer $11 Sun/Mon specials. As for the Halibut & Chips, we were sadly underwhelmed by our first attempt. The fish is firm, mild in flavour with perhaps a little bit of sweetness. It tasted rather bland. We may have to try it fresh to see if it's an acquired taste. Otherwise we'll stick to cod/haddock. The fries accompanying both were a tad soggy but did a bit better with a splash of S&P. To be honest, we've had comparable fish & chips elsewhere. We've even started to rely on our own air fryer at home to cut some grease. However, for convenience it's good to know that Halibut House is a fish & chip option just a stone's throw away from us!

The quality was excellent and the cost was insanely cheap ($15.88 for a piece of fish, fries, coleslaw [which I passed on], a can of pop and gravy and that included tax!). Joey was the server and she was extremely friendly. I left about half of the fries but Joey insisted I take home the gravy so wrapped it up for me.

I KNEW it was cooked in the best fish and chip oil... beef tallow. Same with the light, crunchy fish batter. To any old school fish and chips aficionado, beef tallow, once the standard for deep frying fish and chips is now the Gold Standard. It does not taste 'beefy' at all. It just has this clean, unmistakable 'je ne sais quois' rich flavour that brings out a secret something special in a fried russet potato. Coleslaw, tartar sauce, condiments, furniture and ambience could use a facelift... nothing objectionable.. but it would shoot this place into influencer cult status. Hopefully it doesn't! ;-) Oh, and the sweet charming waitress reminds me of Flo on that 70's TV show "Alice" at Mel's Diner". . Except without the southern sarcastic "Kiss my grits" wit!

That has tomato, onion and tzatziki. Both were great! The side of rice was very resembling of a package Greek rice which was sad but still ok. The side of vegetables was fantastic! Grilled zucchini, grilled carrots, and grilled asparagus! The Large Greek salad was great as well! The service was incredible overall! My only two suggestions would be, again, -The rice was like a pre-made package. -The tzatziki could have more well rounded flavor. We really didn't notice it much other than being there. It was just yogurt honestly. Fix those and it's a 5 star from me!

The modern, chic decor sets a wonderful ambiance, and the service was immediate and welcoming. The food was spectacular from start to finish. We started with fresh, warm bread, followed by a flavorful seafood gumbo loaded with meat, and a generous portion of two lightly breaded crab cakes. For our mains, the 10oz ribeye and 8oz tenderloin were seasoned and cooked to absolute perfection--compliments to the chef! They came with a lovely side of baby potatoes and vegetables. We capped off a perfect meal with a warm pecan tart and ice cream. I highly recommend coming here. We noticed they have a pizza oven and plan to add pizza to the menu soon; we already can't wait for our next visit to try it out! There are specials that change weekly. The interior is decorated with New Orleans memorabilia, medium lit, cozy (not large), with jazz music in the background. Service was attentive and friendly. They operated for 30 years at their old location. This location soft-opened on 2026-02-12. We came on 2026-02-25 for dinner. There were still some furnishings to complete (there were unforeseen delays). They kept the same menu offerings but it will be expanded within a month. We ordered the following: 1. Citra Terre D'Abruzzo Pinot Grigio - Italy (glass $14.95). 2. Coke. 3. Crab Cakes ($19.95). 4. New Orleans Shrimp Cocktail ($19.95). 5. Jambalaya Aranchini (weekly special). 6. Blackened Lamb Chops (weekly special). 7. New Orleans Fisherman's Plate ($39.95). 8. Pecan Pie warmed with Ice Cream ($14.95). 9. Bananas Foster ($14.95). 10. Beignet ($14.95). Every dish had an excellent presentation. We spent a lot of time taking photos and videos. What did you expect from me?! We loved all the dishes! The portions were large! There are more staff than in the previous location, allowing the service to be excellent. They tend to have many loyal and returning customers. Every table starts with freshly baked bread and butter. The bread was so fresh! The three appetizers tasted good. They each had a little kick due to creole cuisine. I loved the shrimp the most. The Blackened Lamb Chops was perfectly cooked. Each of the four pieces were very tender, accompanied by a delicious sauce. The dish had some very nicely cooked seasonal vegetables: roasted potatoes, a red pepper, string beans, a broccoli, and a carrot. This dish will be put into their regular menu in the near future. The New Orleans Fisherman's Plate is great if you want a little sampling of their seafood: Blackened Fish, Cajun Calamari, and Coconut Beer Shrimp. It also comes with rice and seasonal vegetables. The fish was so good! We brought some home for my mom and she really loved it. The Coconut Beer Shrimp was on top of a Orange Marmalade Sauce, which is really liked. The three desserts looked really good and tasted good. I loved the pecan pie the most. They can split dishes in half in the kitchen and serve them on two dishes for two people to share. The restaurant uses fresh seasonal ingredients and spices to create authentic Creole and Cajun tastes. Everything is made in-house except for bread and butter. In the near future, their bread will be made in-house too. Currently, there is only indoor dining but they are looking into the possibility of sidewalk outdoor dining. Mike Djurdjevic runs the front of the house while his wife, Mira Djurdjevic, operates the kitchen. Their son, Marko, also helps in the front of the house. There is a large pizza oven at the back of the restaurant. They will be introducing creole pizza in the near future. There is a separate large room for events, parties, etc. This room will be ready in the near future. They also do catering. The restaurant is wheelchair accessible, but there is no door-open button. There is one gender-neutral washroom, which is also wheelchair accessible, and one female washroom. Thrre is paid neighbourhood street parking. Review 2026-037
