Incredible to find such an unpretentious, amazing spot right in the middle of the Village! Not a ton of seating, but everything is packaged for takeout and so you can decide after you order. I had the default steamed chicken and rice. It was perfectly cooked and the sauce that accompanied it was perfect. A really great spot for a quick and affordable meal! The food comes out almost immediately after ordering, and it's only about $13 for a large portion of steamed chicken rice. There isn't much seating in the restaurant, but turnover is pretty quick. I really enjoyed the flavors of the sauce it came with, as well as the ginger in the rice. If you dine in, the chicken rice also comes with a bowl of daikon soup, which was very flavorful and warm. We also tried the khao zai gaab, which was incredibly crispy and peppery. read more

SO GOOD great hole in the wall spot to get your hainan chicken fix. The steamed chicken is moist, bouncy, and the fatty skin keeps everything extra juicy. The broth served on the side is at once super savory but still light enough to drink all in one go. Also, I really appreciated that the plate was served with offal (easy to ignore if you're not interested) -- no food waste, a way to use to whole animal, and nice textural variety! Yooo this little hole-in-the wall in West Village by Washington Square Park was probably the best lowkey meal I had while visiting NYC on my last recent trip! The Hainan thai style chicken plate was DELICIOUS. I still can't stop thinking about my meal here. It's a very small place and not a lot of seating, so if you have to take it to-go.. just take it to the park! Besides the food, the staff was so friendly too. This place is great for a quick lunch!! I order from here at least 1-2x/ week and the food arrives in ~20 mins without fail. I used to live in Singapore for a long time so I'd like to think I know what good chicken rice is! The steamed chicken version here is ok, but my favorite is the "Khao Gai Zaab" which is fried chicken with spicy sour seasoning. Excellent food! read more

Top tier comfort food and they serve one of the best Hainanese chicken rice in the city (equal to my other favorite, Lou Yau Kee). Both the roast chicken and the Hainan chicken are soooo flavorful and juicy and the accompanying chicken broth is great. I think I preferred the roast chicken slightlyyy more but both were really good. Portions are decent. Seating is limited here but it's right by Washington square park which is convenient. read more

I'm not usually a chicken and rice person, but this place is amazing. Food is incredible; the chicken is so tender and everything is flavorful. The rice and sauce really made it pop. Soup is so refreshing; the daikon is the perfect touch. Service is friendly and quick, and the setting is casual. Although most people take their food to go, I like to eat in. The big window is bright and a great place for me to unwind during my break. I appreciate the many napkins and ample hand sanitizer they have at the front too, so you can quickly clean up and go about your day! The roasted chicken was tender. Only came with one type of sauce whereas other Thai chicken rice shops would have given me three types of sauce. The cashier wasn't too friendly. They get a pass for cleanliness for a tiny shop but not immaculate. Very small portion for so much money. Will not come back! read more

There wasn't a lot of seating, but this is the perfect spot to grab a personal, calm meal. The Fried Chicken Rice was ready and slid in front of me at my seat within 5 minutes of ordering. It was hot and felt like exactly the food I needed in the moment. The daikon soup tasted clean and yet hearty. The cucumber was refreshing. There were only a few slices, so I wish it came with more. Self loathing-free, yet filling proportions with tasty chicken cooked in a myriad of ways from steamed, saute, or fried. Hainese style chicken here was delicious--light, flavorful, and perfect doneness without sacrificing moisture. The accompanying ginger sauce can be a little strong so I recommend to dip it rather than pour it over. Sauteed chicken was also delectable. The umami packed fried rice is the ideal accompaniment to the chicken and was sooooo addicting. Fried chicken has a unique and lightly sweet flavor without being too oily/greasy or salty, which was great. It's a great light option for fried chicken if you want something with a little crunch. The sliced cucumber additions give you an extra refreshing little burst with the savouriness of the food. Portions are rather affordable--about $12-$14 per plate/per person and the food comes out fast! They seem to do a great deal of takeout or DD orders as well. There is some seating indoors: bar stools behind a giant glass window for scarfing down your food while people watching, and some smaller tables for about 2 groups. It can get a little cramped. It appears they have drinks as well as a variety of proportion options, sides, etc. I'm a super fan already and will become a sucker due to loving the yogurt drinks next door. One of my favorite cheap eats in Manhattan. I cannot explain how much I love this place. You go up to the counter to order and the food is ready within 5 minutes and served directly to your small table. And even though the restaurant itself is tiny, there always seems to be an open seat as people eat and leave very quickly. I ordered the Fried Chicken Rice and it was delicious!! Although there isn't a lot of chicken, the fried bits are fried to perfection as it isn't too oily and full of flavor. I especially liked dipping it into the sour and spicy sauce which elevated the chicken. The rice is also to die for as it is seeped with chicken broth, you can just eat this alone without anything else. Also, the soup is incredible as I love how much white pepper they put into the broth, the flavors are so incredibly intense. I love ME Chicken Rice. Probably top 10 favorite eats in NYC! read more

My yoga studio is nearby so whenever I don't feel like cooking after yoga, I always stop by ME Chicken Rice to pick up their #1 aka the Thai style hainanese steamed chicken rice. It's affordable and delicious - what more can a girl ask for?! It's a small restaurant but there are a few tables to dine in if you choose. Not a great spot for a big party but you can always grab take out and eat at the park. As for the food, the steamed chicken is so juicy and moist. The chicken rice here is SO good!! I was able to try all three types of chicken (fried chicken not shown) and my favorites, in order, were the roasted chicken, steamed chicken, and then the fried chicken. Don't get me wrong, the fried chicken (4/5) was really good, but a bit breaded. The roasted chicken (5/5) was super flavorful and the flavors from the chicken seeped into the chicken rice, and the steamed chicken (4.7/5) was way more tender and flavorful than I expected! I was also a huge fan of the daikon soup that came with it... it tasted so flavorful and not MSG-y at all, and the chicken rice was SO TASTY!! I would highly recommend coming here. I was looking for a no frills place with some good flavor and that I got from ME Chicken Rice. Service was minimal where they just take your order and call it out. The place is super super small. We luckily got an open table right away. There were only really 3-4 entree options and it's how you want your chicken cooked - steamed, roasted or fried. Delicious and causal chicken rice place. You have a couple different styles to choose - steamed Hainan chicken, roasted chicken, or friend chicken. We got the fried chicken with fried rice. However, the fried rice was mostly white rice but toasted with some sesame oil. The dish is served with a side cucumber and a simple chicken soup. I don't think I would ever crave what I ate here but I would be interested in coming back to try the Hainan chicken next time. read more

UHM... I really loved this chicken rice. I've had a number of chicken rice experiences over the past few years, and this one has been my favorite. This one is the Vietnamese rendition, that comes with a side of sweet dipping sauce. You can get your chicken steamed, roasted, or fried. I got mine steamed. The chicken was perfectly cooked and really flavorful. I really liked the side of dipping sauce it came with. My favorite part, the chicken rice... Was delicious. It was a ginger rice with amazing chicken flavor. It also came with a small cabbage soup, and I loved the broth. This is a pretty small establishment but you could get food to stay. My recommendation would be for takeout. I'm definitely looking forward to coming back and trying their other chicken rice dishes! read more

I got their specialty steamed chicken rice. The chicken was fresh, tender and lightly seasoned. The rice was perfectly cooked in chicken broth and full of umami. The sauce added a kick of saltiness that compliments the chicken and rice well. I appreciate that the chicken was already deboned and makes eating it easier. These are some of the weirdest reviews I've seen in a while. It's like there's some bias or undue influence that I'm not aware of. To start, the pictures don't mesh with the insanely high average rating. Right? Not sure what others see, but to me it just looked like basic, bland, steamed chicken. I showed up at the restaurant. A fair price if you're too lazy to cook at home but it's basic, bland chicken and rice and soup. The (quarter? ish?) chicken is deboned but still has all the not-fun chewy parts. It also has that ever-so-slight sour taste that the cheapest grocery store chicken always has. I ordered potstickers which took 15 minutes to come out. They were crisped nicely but the inside of them tasted like the goo inside chicken nuggets. You might save $1-$2 here compared to Kebab Express or Cauldron Chicken, but you've gotta be kidding me. read more

I made the mistake of ordering the standard boiled chicken. It comes with the fat and skin of the chicken which is a texture I don't prefer. I would like to return to try one of their other options. I got both the steamed and the roast together. Half and half and paid more. Both good but I would definitely recommend the roast more. Much more flavorful and spiced. Darker meat though I think Sauces make the boiled work. Soup was great. Very smooth on the stomach. Meal just hit the spot. Right price. read more

I did take it out of the wrapper for the picture, but suggest you keep the wrapper on as it gets messy to eat. The spices and flavor is delicious and the chicken is crispy and tender. It's a great Nashville hot chicken sandwich overall. While the claw is insta-worthy, it's not quite worth the extra $4 (plus you can't really even eat it, so it's all for show). I'd suggest getting the claw for your first time, but I'd get the regular sandwich in the future for the lower price.

They had a good crisp to them and a good crunch, but needed a tad more salt. The fry portion was also much larger, so next time, I would just stick with the chicken. The free kimchi was standard and decent. This was a perfectly decent Korean chicken spot. If it were any closer to a Korean neighborhood, I doubt it would be doing well, but there is a distinct lack of Korean places nearby outside of the primarily takeout spot, which doesn't specialize at all in chicken. The dry seasoning is slightly coarse and similar to the taste of lemon pepper, but better. I am not a fan of lemon pepper wings, but whatever seasoning they have on the exterior resembles the taste slightly. I enjoy that the flavor (although its dry seasoning) does not just stop at the bite you take, but trickles over into the interior of the wing as well. Most times, I taste the flavor of a wing with the first few bites and it misses as your chewing (generally with sauced wings). With these, the flavor remains both after your first bite and while you are chewing. I think these are a great choice as an appetizer. The duck over rice is a personal FAVORITE! I used to come here and only order that with a Thai tea and have recently decided to try more of the food they offer as everything really does look delicious (pictures may not actually do this place justice). Duck is one of my favorite meats, if it's not yours, then maybe I would advise to steer clear, they have a plethora of options on their menu.
