This is a little gem I found just around the corner from Chinatown. I've always wanted to try Korean fried chicken so I was excited to try it. It did not disappoint! I don't know how they make fried chicken so much better than the Colonel, but they do and it was amazing. The chicken pieces were large and it was so moist inside -while being exceptionally crunchy outside. The seasonings were fantastic, as were the sauces. One flavor I ordered was supposed to be a bit spicy but I couldn't tell it had any heat at all -but then I'm from TX. They've obviously adjusted to a New Yorkers spice tolerance. I also ordered white rice which was very sticky and easy to eat with chopsticks. It comes with a small side salad with a dressing so good I asked what it was. I tried the rolled egg. It was like an omelette but rolled and drizzled with ketchup and another sauce. Also delicious. The restaurant was very clean and the service was friendly and attentive. They provided plastic gloves and a bone bucket which I thought was a nice touch and it came in very handy. The restaurant is casual and reasonably priced. Especially for New York. We ordered the Goddamn Hot chicken, which already felt like a bold life choice. We went with drumsticks. Juicy on the inside, still impressively crispy on the outside and absolutely drenched in sauce. They know though and supply gloves. The food came out in under ten minutes, which was shocking in the best way. I barely had time to emotionally prepare for the heat. Speaking of heat, the sauce was a little hotter than I personally prefer, but that one's on me. Even with the spice level testing my life choices, the quality of the chicken was fantastic. Crab Ramen, this was what I needed on a cold day. It was warming and big chunks of blue crab. Kimchi Fried Rice: My mom ordered this. Nice and satisfying with a sunny side egg on top. Cheesy Tteokbokki: The ultimate comfort food w a nice cheese pull. The rice cakes were chewy and the spice level was mild. Must try Korean national dish, the Bibimbap, perfected charred ont eh bottom to give me that nice crispy rice at the end. Tried the $15 Pork Bone Soup special . It was a satisfying and meaty portion and a great value that will come with all the banchans. The array of banchan or side dishes- you get unlimited kimchi, macaroni salad and pickled cucumbers with your meal. The restaurant is spotlessly clean. An absolute hidden gem. Best place and only place for Korean Fried Chicken in the heart of Chinatown. Went there for lunch on hot summer day and was able to get seats immediately. Passed by here enough times to finally stop in. Very clean environment. Tables mostly filled up, but not "crowded." We got the soy garlic fried chicken (wings and drums) and fried spare ribs. The meats were pretty good, and the restaurant gives you buckets to discard your bones and gloves to keep your hands clean. I don't recommend getting the japchae. The portion is obnoxiously small and didn't taste that authentic. I liked that they provide a complimentary salad at the beginning of the meal. I thought it was a lot of salad but it was nice of them to start out this appetizer. Next they brought out the main dish, which looked elegantly placed on the black plate. The chicken was not dry and tender and soft. There were sesame seeds and scallions all over the chicken to add that extra flavor. I love how this sesame seeds throw that kick. The chicken meat is very tender and fresh! Juicy too and wet. The rice on the other hand was kind of sticky. I wish the rice was more individualized and not too sticky! Either the way the chicken is the winner out of everything on the plate. They also serve some kimchi and it had a perfect spice, not too extreme or bland. There was no one when I got here but now as I'm finished with my food, a group of girls just came in so I assume it can get tightly packed throughout the day since there are so many tables and chairs. They also give out gloves to eat chicken drum sticks buckets for the bones and remains. A nice technique to keep yourself clean. Korean music playing in the background makes the environment extra friendly and welcoming. It kind of calms you down and makes you feel relaxed in this place. I was genuinely surprised by the fact that this minimal amount of food costs $30 in Chinatown, NYC I ordered the Large Boneless Yangenoem Chicken, which quotes around a 16 piece quantity, which one could plausibly assume is equal to the size of a normal chicken wing at least. However, some of the pieces were not only smaller, I counted only 12 pieces total -- which makes sense why the order looks like its a small portion. As for the actual taste of the chicken, that was also didappointing as the flavors were a bit tame and honestly I have made better myself only using a subset of the ingredients. I'd been looking to give my kids an authentic Chinatown meal like I used to enjoy on Mott Street when I was a kid. Of course, many local eateries were packed on Saturday, so we ended up here because we were hungry and cold. Though I'm a big fan of Korean cuisine, I'd never sampled Korean fried chicken. I ordered the four wings with rice, opting for the "god damn spicy" flavoring. My older kid chose the two drumsticks (with honey ginger sauce) with rice, while my younger, pickier eater selected a mango smoothie and the 10-inch fried mozzarella stick. Though I'd been concerned about whether it would be enough food, we were served a complimentary salad, kimchi and a small bowl of macaroni salad to start. I was the only one to touch either, and I was sort of glad because they were both fresh and delicious. Nothing super-fancy here, just properly made. The food arrived quickly enough, and the god damn spicy sauce was damn tasty. It had a bright, slightly tangy flavor with a healthy amount of spiciness but nothing too wild. (It barely made the top of my head sweat, which happens when I eat truly spicy foods.) The honey ginger drumsticks got rave reviews from my kid, who is a budding foodie. This is a small restaurant with seating along both sides of the walls. It was not busy during lunchtime, so I was seated and served my salad, mango banana smoothie, and chicken at a reasonable time. The salad could have used a bit more dressing, as it was concentrated at the top. The smoothie was fresh and not too thick that I couldn't drink it easily through the straw. I ordered a wing and drum combo which was 4 wings and 2 drums. You have a choice of 2 out of 4 flavors, depending on how many wings you get. The chicken itself was deliciously crispy and flavorful, and thoroughly cooked through. The Heritage sauce was sweet with a bit of heat, which balanced well.
