Twin Tails bills itself as Thai-Vietnamese, but based on what I tried, the food seems to lean much more Thai. I love Vietnamese food, and I don't care who is cooking it as long as it tastes good. My issue here was that the flavors and preparation didn't really honor the Vietnamese dishes whose names they use. These felt more like loose interpretations of bánh khọt and bò lúc lắc than elevated versions of the originals. They weren't bad, but they also weren't particularly satisfying, especially at these prices. The cocktail was a little too sweet and strong for my taste. The red curry soufflé that accompanied the bánh khọt was also sweeter and mushier than I would have preferred. And somehow the $9 side of rice was overcooked and mushy inside the bowl. That one is especially hard to excuse. Rice cookers exist! Overall, Twin Tails feels like a place where the ambience, presentation, and scene are a big part of what you're paying for.
