This is my go to place for BBQ ribs, chicken, burgers, brisket and rib candy. I'm hooked on the brisket, sweet bun, sweet and spicy sauce with jalapeno jelly and Asian slaw. Oh yeah! It's about to go down in my belly. I'm doing my happy dance, waiting for that brown bag of goodness to arrive. And since I can, I just ordered some rib candy. Yep, I did it. It's crazy delicious. Amazing food. The ribs and pulled pork is smoked to perfection. The baked sweet spuds and boss beans are to die for. Their sauces are the best I've ever tasted. Visited back in April with no issues however today counter service was not helpful as we tried to order 2 meats and sides. They claimed they didn't hear us order the beans and potato salad so they counted 2 drinks as our sides. I bought BBQ many places mainly Texas home to the best in world and drinks are not a side. Two Words: Rib Candy. Didn't know Meat Boss could get any better. But then I tried the Rib Candy. It is phenomenal. I also highly recommend the Sweet and Spicy sauce. It is like no other sauce I've ever had before and TBH I have a bottle of it that I've been a tiny bit stingy with for a while. Their takeout is super quick and the quality is always on point. A winner! As a senior and a foodie, I have eaten a lot of BBQ in my life, shoot, in every stafe! Well I'm exaggerating but I really have eaten many pulled pork sandwiches in states known for BBQ : Texas, Tennessee, Louisiana, Florida, the Carolinas, Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, even Hawaii (korean is awesome!). But this place in Mobile is my favorite. Here they call it pork butt -- pulled pork butt. Either in a sweet roll or regular roll. I chose regular roll. Oh, the flavor! Smokey, tender, and the sauce--sweet and spicy-- was just delicious. The sandwich was huge and if I wasn't such a pig (no pun intended), I would have only eaten half. But I couldn't stop! This was a takeout order so a small container of slaw came with, separately. The other awesome surprise were the baked beans which were a tad spicy and had pieces of that pork inside! All of us LOVED the baked beans. And I never order baked beans. These were the best. Potato salad, would not order it again, sorry, not my style. Rack of ribs, a bit salty for me. And not enough fat, too lean. I know people avoid fat nowadays but truly fat gives meat its flavor so get over it!!!! I regret not trying the brisket. Next time! Cause you can be sure that when I go back to Mobile to visit family, I will be going back to Meat Boss! Once you select the method of barbecue i.e. Carolina, rub, Memphis, etc. the process of cooking the meat is the same: slow and low. The meats always kind of taste the same to me. I think the time and talent an establishment puts in to their sides and sauces distinguishes a good barbecue place from a great barbecue place. Meats: The chicken and pork was very good but what I expect with a good barbecue place. The brisket was a little bit above expectation. (I had it on the Hawaiian roll which if I had to do it again probably was switch) But the sides and sauces was just average. Sides: They tried a little on the baked beans but I put a little pull pork in there, But it wasn't much more than a basic Cisco's baked beans. The macaroni and cheese I thought was awful. It seem like it was straight out of a box with cream sauce. But my young daughter liked it. I'm looking for that macaroni and cheese that has multiple cheeses and good baked crust. I think the potato salad was well above average. I enjoyed it. Looks like they put some thought into that. Wow! Last year I posted on a traveling group must EATS when in mobile/Florida. Multiple times, Meat Boss was mentioned so I had to check it out for myself. After a long day of driving for work I stopped in. My first time in, I asked for house recommendations. The hostess was very nice and patient. The menu is straight forward and to the point, making it easy for first time visitors. I decided on the Pulled Chicken sandwich on sweet bun, I added pickle and traditional slaw. Made my meal a 2 side combo with Potato Salad and Boss Beans... If you know anything about me based off my reviews... I am a BAKED BEAN connoisseur! My absolute favorite BBQ side. There are a variety of sauce to compliment your meat of choice, I chose the Sweet, which is the basic original BBQ sauce ; also the sweet and spicy. Mannn oh man, I love me some BBQ, and I'm so indecisive that I most times get the same dish at all BBQ joints, bc I'm terrified of trying something new and not liking it, lol. HOWEVER, this BBQ chicken sandwich was soooo delicious! The chicken is fresh and piled high, the slaw gave it the perfect crunch and the pickles gave it added texture to the sandwich. The sauce... Chef kiss. Perfect. I asked for the sandwich to have the sweet sauce, and I drizzled the sweet sauce before each bite lol. The baked beans... You got it right MEAT BOSS. more so of a savory base with meat bits all throughout. I love the flavor of these beans. High 4/5 stars. The potato salad.. Hard pass sadly. So I was in Mobile for school. Our professors took us with them to THE lunch spot for them. The whole dept was excited about going. So here we were. In line trying to quickly decide what to get. I understand now that it doesn't matter. You can not go wrong with anything here! I ended up with the sliders. One pulled pork and one brisket, both were huge sliders piled high with moist yummy meat! I got the Alabama white sauce. OMG! best I have ever had. Loved it. I got slaw as the side. Very good. I still prefer the "Cotton State barbecue sauce" Baked beans have the barbecue pork meat in them and the spicy sauce. Love how they grilled the buns. Plenty of food will have to come back to try the other sides and meats!! I've been to some of the most prestigious bbq places around the country. I grew up down the street from the legendary 17th St. I was excited to try this because it is close to work, and folks... this place is ... out-freaking-standing! I love the build your own sammich concept. Love it! The menu is brief but perfect. I am/was a traditional bbq guy so I was a bit skeptical about bbq on sourdough.. it's not traditional. Not at all. But people-- expand your mind and do it! I absolutely love the pork on sourdough. Add some slaw, onions, and jalapeño jelly with the spicy Carolina sauce ... I swear I just heard angels singing. Incredible!!!! Being in Alabama on vacation, my family and I knew we had to try some bbq and it did NOT disappoint! We were all stunned. Everything was so fresh and the bbq sauces (especially the white bbq sauce) were phenomenal. You could smell the smoking meats in the parking lot. I got the pulled butt with white bbq sauce on the sweet bun (which is like a Hawaiian sweet bun). There's an option to get toppings, but I don't even think that's necessary. It's more than flavorful enough without anything else. My family all raved about their food as well. It's cool because you can get two sides, and one of your sides can be a drink if you don't want just water (this is the case for lunch anyways). The Mac and cheese was great, but I have to give a special shout out to the potato salad. I love a good non-mustard base potato salad, and this was perfection.
