It's tucked right into the middle of a residential neighborhood and feels like a true local spot. The French dip was excellent. They only do 2 oz pours (no half pours) but the prices are still more affordable than any other place you'd find on the West Coast. Some downsides is that they don't have glencairn glasses and the place has your typical tavern smells, so you won't get the full isolated whiskey tasting experience. This place is after all a tavern, so most of the focus is on beers and a communal experience. If you're looking to try something rare without wanting to buy the whole bottle though, I think coming here for whiskey is still pretty good.

The pub was nearly empty except for one gentleman at the bar, and she seemed far more interested in continuing that conversation than welcoming what appeared to be paying customers. It genuinely felt like interrupting someone's first date. When she finally came over, she somehow managed to be both smiling and incredibly hostile at the same time. It takes a special talent to make an entire group feel uncomfortable while wearing a grin, but she pulled it off flawlessly. The passive-aggressive Olympics would have awarded gold. I have no problem with owners having personality, but treating customers like they're a burden isn't a business model--it's a fast track to empty tables. Add in parking her Jeep in the closest customer spot right in front of the entrance, and it gave off the impression that customer convenience wasn't exactly high on the priority list. If the goal is to use the bar as a personal dating lounge, that's completely fine--but maybe rename it something like F-boy Island, Love Is Blind: Happy Hour Edition, or The Bachelorette Tavern. At least then customers would know what experience they're signing up for. To be fair, the place itself is adorable. It's cozy, unique, and obviously decorated with a lot of love. Between the Christmas lights, faux clouds, flowers, and whimsical touches, it feels less like an Irish pub and more like someone combined Pinterest with a Hallmark movie. Honestly, I'd hire her to decorate a little girl's bedroom in a heartbeat. After reading other reviews, I was disappointed--but not surprised--to see that this doesn't appear to be an isolated experience. It's unfortunate because the food, drinks, and atmosphere have so much potential. A welcoming attitude from the owner would had made all the difference. I'd happily return for the food and the server from my first visit. Returning for the hospitality? That's a much harder sell.

So my wife and I decided to continue our "dining out weekend" and we had decided to keep it contained to downtown Tacoma as we both believe in supporting local business and of course, we live within walking distance. After our amazing experience across the street at Vincero, we had moderate expectations of this place. I had heard their sandwiches were good, and a few other things on the menu...but it was a bar scene, so the bar wasn't real high to begin with, but we were hopeful. Ugh...we should've gone elsewhere. Ala Carte on a bar menu? Seriously? I had a french dip of some sort...if you could call it that...not sure it was actual meat and the Au Jus...disgusting. My wife went with a burger, trying to play it safe. From wilted and brown lettuce to mushy and too thinly sliced tomatoes, it was a hockey puck on a bun...no flavor, no seasoning just plain bad. We didn't even finish our meal...I needed my beer to wash the texture of whatever had died on my bun down. We won't be back, not sure how this place has survived the test of time with food like that...maybe their drinks are better...who knows. read more

We came into this bar and ordered drinks. While we were waiting for the bartender to pour the drinks a woman walked up and grabbed one of my friends by the ass and then elbowed her way past me and other customers to get to the rail. Later we found out that she works there but was off work and drunk. She did not apologize for her actions and in fact the bartender doubled down and said that we didn't tip her when in fact we had not yet paid our tab. We were asked to leave which we did but it is completely unprofessional of this bar for allowing an off duty employee to get drunk, sexual harass and assault customers and then ask them to leave when they are not okay with it. We came back a couple of days later and were met with hostility from yet another employee who did not allow us to explain what happened and when I asked for the managers information was told to leave and that I was not allowed to speak to an owner or manager about my issue. Will continue to look for an explanation from the owner and further understanding of why they are allowing sexual assault and harassment in their bar. read more

We come here often. There was a crime down the street, and they rudely kicked us out, lol it had been hours since the crime, but they suddenly decided to kick us out and had a wild attitude like WE were at fault. The bar went from full to empty, which fine... Tell us it's "shutting down". But they threw a fit that we were still there and acted like we were the "bad guys". The attitude was wild. They all got vulgar and acted like we were at fault. Who ever the dude was who caught an attitude went from drinking all night to talking shit and flipping us off. Meconi's is and always will be my favorite bar in T-Town! Rad staff always makes your experience a great one and really makes this bar a staple in Tacoma. All the quirky decor and local art just help add to a dope time. Love the fact that the front part of the bar feels traditional with a jukebox but then in the back you can play pool, darts, or air hockey! AND THE FOOD ... lemme tell you, yummy goodness! I've been a customer at Meconis for over 6 years! I love the place, staff food and atmosphere. I've had a many of parties and celebrations at this bar and to say the staff is accommodating is an understatement. On a busy Friday or Saturday night you can catch the staff on point, all night. If you need a place to get a good drink and some awesome food and surround yourself with easy going super friendly people, meconis is the perfect spot, any day of the week! read more

Not only are they great bartenders and servers in general, but they genuinely care about my experience every single time I'm there. I don't go to Meconi's as much as I'd like. I think their food is excellent and I'm a wine drinker, so I appreciate that this pub has a good wine list. The wait staff is always quick and friendly. It's never been too packed (maybe once), but they seem to get a good crowd. Only thing, they could have more bathrooms. read more
