I stopped by here this morning with my wife and twins. Every Sunday we try to go to a new local coffee shop and on this day we happened to choose Mediterra. We have been to their Sewickley location many times and have always enjoyed it so I was interested in seeing their new Lawrenceville location. It's located in lower Lawrenceville on Butler street a little past all the craziness of Upper Lawrenceville. That's means free street parking and easier parking which is always a plus on both accounts. The inside of this shop is set up exactly like their Sewickley one only it's smaller and thus has less seating and a smaller grocery area. They still have a giant pastry area of good looking items as well as a display cooler full of other baked goods. Besides that they maybe have seating for about 20-30 people inside and then had a couple of two tops on the sidewalk outside. On this morning my wife and I decided to split a ham and cheese croissant and a lemon and coconut cronut and then I went with a cappuccino while my wife went with a cold brew. We first started off with the ham and cheese croissant which was flakey and had a decent amount of ham in it. As you can imagine, it tasted good and my favorite part is always the extra herb seasoning on the top which gives it a little bit extra which is nice. After that we tried the cronut and man was it good. While I didn't get the coconut, I thought that the crunchy topping was good and also loved the sharp lemon curd in the middle. Both my wife and kids loved it too and I was able to teach my daughter to lick her finger to get the crumbs off the plate. As for our coffees I thought that my cappuccino was on the bitter side. However on this day with all of the sweet from the cronut I thought it worked perfectly. Then my wife's cold brew ended up being really good as it was bold with a touch of natural sweetness on the finish. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. Both my wife and I are huge fans of Mediterra and love both their pastries and their coffee. read more

So glad to have a location in Lawrenceville! Just like their other locations, this one didn't miss a beat. It is smaller than the other locations with about 6 small tables available & some outdoor seating. You can order ahead online and pick it up on the designated shelf or get in line. I ordered the Turkey sandwich to go and I only waited for about five minutes. It was delicious! The lemon aioli really elevates the sandwich. They have a full cheese selection as well as some prepared foods you can take home. Their bakery looked unreal, I can't wait to go back and try more. Unapproachable, rude, and incompetent staff. Why are you asking me to tip your staff before service has been delivered? I said I wanted my food here, it was packed to go. What am I supposed to do with dry toast? Hot coffee wasn't hot. Staff says there's no wifi with multiple named networks. Truly a place for gender goblins with useless degrees to fester. read more

I love Mediterra's new Lawrenceville location! I've been to the Mt Lebo one many times so I was very happy to see the new spot in town. This location is smaller than Mt Lebo, but just like with their other locations, the long line to order moves fast! When we got there, the line was out the door but it only took 10 mins for us to get to the counter to order. I got the Salmon Toast and it was delicious! Someone else in our party got the braised beef sandwich and said it was delicious as well. The staff was very friendly and helpful, with the exception of one person. However, her demeanor was not so poor that it ruined the experience at all. I will definitely be back.. soon and often! read more

I'm so excited that we have Mediterra in Lawrenceville now! I'm a big fan of the other locations so I was stoked when I heard this one was popping up in my neighborhood. They did such a great job on the inside and they have a beautiful variety of baked goods and hot cafe items. I am most excited that they have an expansive bread selection with options like semolina, sourdough, farm, spelt, ciabatta, etc. They also had a large cheese and refrigerated foods selection with ready to go items. There were a handful of seats inside and a larger group high top in the back so pretty decent seating situation. The staff were very kind and attentive too! Every time I go to Mediterra, I want to die. Because I want that experience to be my last memory. Today, just two days after we went there for brunch, we went for another brunch. At the end of the meal, I wanted to ugly cry because I was so happy. We got another quiche, which was somehow softer than the last one, which had been so soft and melted in my mouth. I got Turkish eggs, which were so beautiful and gorgeous (visually and orally) and different from your usual waffles or pancakes. Perfectly done, the eggs oozed just the right amount. The lemon cream cheese cupcake had a beautiful filling in the middle. I loved the passion fruit in the cruffin. I got a strawberry rhubarb chamomile shrub drink on the house because they missed adding it to our order. There was some confusion about adding the cruffin to the order, but in hindsight, we could have grabbed the paper bag and brought it along with us to the front of the line. We ordered so many things, some to have there and some to-go, that it's understandable that the order was confusing. Ambiance: they've got it nailed as per usual. I usually don't like to go to a restaurant more than once - there are so many things to try - but why go to an inferior place when you can go to a superior place? read more

I recently dined at Mediterra in Lawrenceville, and let me just say, it was a delightful experience. The baked goods looked incredibly fresh, tempting me to order one of everything. However, the thought of returning to taste new items gives me a reason to come back. For my meal, I tried the soup of the day, which was a simple yet cozy sausage, bean, and cabbage concoction. It was delicious and warmed me up from the inside out. As for the main course, I opted for the Cuban sandwich, which was a delightful twist on the traditional version. From the bread to the pork, every bite was a burst of flavor. I highly recommend trying this unique take on a classic dish. The only downside is that the restaurant is small, so seating may be limited. However, this can easily be resolved by enjoying your meal in the comfort of your car. Overall, my experience at Mediterra was fantastic, and I will definitely be returning for more of their delectable offerings. Yum! Sorry no picture thought of it after I engulfed meal. read more

Today was my first time in this beautiful shop on Butler St. in Pittsburgh! The brick, hammered copper, green, marble all contribute to a beautiful coffee shop. The selection of sweet and meal items was impressive. We spilt a 7 layer brownie (blondie) & each had a hot drink: chai latte and a maraschino cherry latte. There is a little self-service water station that utilizes a cute, old-style sink! Large table, small tables, and bar-style seating make the most use of the shop space- all was full when we arrived (demonstrating the popularity of the shop). We met friends for brunch at Mediterra Cafe on a recent visit to PGH, and we really enjoyed it! I've seen posts from people at Mediterra, but it's never been high on my radar. We visited the Lawrenceville location, which is right in the hustle and bustle of Butler St. The restaurant itself is very cute and relatively small, but luckily we snagged a table in the back despite it being a busy Sunday. Mediterra operates by you ordering at the counter and then waiting for your food to be delivered; this definitely expedited the busy-ness! We had lunch plans not too long afterwards, so we kept our meal light. My husband and I both opted for cold brew since it was warm day, and they hit the spot. They offer a number of more unique / fancy drinks (particularly interested in the cereal milk latte), so would love to try these next time! Their food menu is quite generous, offering a number of toasts as well as heartier meals for breakfast. Their toasts are served on their housemade bread, so this sparked my interest. I opted for the seasonal toast, which featured ricotta, pesto, almonds, red onion, roasted red peppers, and a drizzle of oil. Paired on their sourdough toast, it was the perfect breakfast - not overly filling and with flavors that blended so well together (and that I would never think to put on the same piece of bread). Well done! My husband got the avocado toast, which was very fresh and featured a lot of local veggies (cucumber, tomatoes, radishes). He enjoyed it (although was jealous of mine). Our friends got the breakfast sandwich, which they liked as well, although they commented that it was not anything too crazy. We were very enticed by the display case with all their baked goods, so we snagged an almond croissant to take home. I loved the filling in the croissant, making for a nice (although messy) touch! I wish the filling was a bit more dispersed throughout the whole pastry, but not complaining too much. Mediterra was a great spot to meet with friends, and I'm glad we got to try some of their fresh bread and pastries! Would definitely stop back again to try other menu items, including specialty drinks and more hearty entrees and of course, more delectable pastries! read more

Love their salads and coffee drinks. I just wish the place was a little bigger as it's a tight squeeze! With that being said, I will continue to come back. My husband had the pizza and loved it. I would reccomend the chopped Salad along with the beet salad . A little on the pricey side, but you can tell you are getting quality food. read more

My husband and I have been a huge fan of Mediterra since they opened the first cafe in Sewickley and have since moved out of state, so when we were in town for a wedding and saw an opportunity to check out the newest location in Lawrenceville, we jumped on it. Being a Sunday afternoon, it was busy but not impossible to deal with. We ordered a trusty slice of quiche and an order of Turkish eggs, plus a croissant and mango matcha latte and took a seat at a high top table at the back of the cafe. As usual, everything was supremely delicious. I loved the combo of classic Mediterra cafe touches like the tile on the floor with the patina of an old Lawrenceville building. Came in here on a busy Saturday around 11am. The place was packed. I've been to both other locations and this one is definitely comparable to Sewickley in size. There are about 8 2-person tables when you first walk in and a few seats at the bar/counter top. If you walk back towards the water fill station, there are about 4 more counter seats and one big table that fits 6. I ordered the brown sugar cinnamon latte, hot, with whole milk, one loaf of sourdough (sliced), and a pumpkin spice cruffin to go. The latte was delicious, as always. Creamy and not too sweet. The sourdough is my go to, when getting loaves from here. I love their bread. The girl behind the counter got the fresh loaf sliced quickly and gave me the cruffin at the same time. The cruffin was a hefty boy! Definitely has some weight to it. The roasted pepitas on top were a nice touch. I would say, definitely stop by, but expect to be taking your things to go if you're coming at a busy time. Seating is hard to secure! Wow, where do we begin? The French toast is thick with pears and creme fraiche, yum! Breakfast of Champions is so good! The eggs are always perfect, the bacon is crispy, chewy & thick, the toast is homemade and the fruit bowl is beautiful. Their quiche of the day with a side salad is awesome. We love the chocolate hazelnut biscotti with the best coffee in town. The staff is always so friendly and helpful with plenty of smiles, so you know that the manager is top notch. A new favorite brunch spot in L-ville. For Saturday brunch hour, there was plenty of seating! This place is equivalent to a Tatte but for Pittsburgh. Great brunch yesterday. The peaches and cream cruffin was a little light on the peaches (thinking I might not have ordered the right one?) but it was delicious and finished in a few minutes by our party of three as we waited at the table for our main dishes to arrive. The semolina porridge was interesting--the pineapple and lemon marmalade were great although the color of the semolina was a little mustardy (but my reaction to the color is my own; it was very well prepared. I've just never had it before but happy I ventured). The mushroom melt was perfect and the house pickles stand alone and should be sufficient to justify the trip to PGH. Not sure how the salad was, but probably wonderful, too, since someone (who shall remain anonymous) wasn't sharing it. Nice scene, clean restroom, and capable and friendly staff. Highly recommend!! Their food is overpriced for what you get, but it's usually good. This time, though, I bought a chickpea salad. I got a box full of lettuce with three cherry tomatoes, about a half a cup of chickpeas, a couple slices of a small cucumber and some feta cheese and croutons. Very disappointing!
