They are perfectly crispy, which is hard to do with sweet potato fries. Our server, Jill, was kind and attentive and helped my husband decide on dessert, after a serious discussion about icing thickness. Ha... Finally catching up on quite a few outings for food over the last few months! We stopped into Cafe Bernardo for an early dinner last week. I have been here many, many times but always end up digging in and forgetting to take pics! We had a few cocktails that hit the spot and were perfectly refreshing for the warm day! I love an old fashioned and this one did not disappoint. We also ordered the peach and Prosciutto pizza & grilled flat iron steak for mains and shared. The pizza was so good. The crust was perfection and the prosciutto and peach were an excellent pairing. The flank steak was seasoned wonderfully, the potatoes and blue cheese were an excellent combination of flavors. Of course we had to have the carrot cake which is a favorite- has to be the best in Sacramento. I always love the dessert cookies and the peanut butter cream sandwich did not disappoint- another favorite to add to the list. Service was great and you can't beat the beautiful plant wall and decor on the patio for dining outside. Of course we will be back again. read more

Cafe Bernardo's is a Sacramento staple in my opinion. Part of the Paragary's restaurant group, they are known for their salads and more casual fare. The location at the Pavillion's has indoor and outdoor seating and shares an adjacent space with Berkley Bar, if you want to order cocktails from here, you can enjoy them at the restaurant. Have been here multiple times but realized I had never written a review! My favorite is the Salad Sampler ($18.50), you get a choice of two or three salads. Servings are right-sized, don't expect any leftovers in my opinion. You can't go wrong with their mushroom & Jarlsberg cheese salad, kale and romaine Caesar salad or their Thai noodle salad. That's exactly what I ordered (see photo)! The service here is okay, more transactional than personable. When I was here yesterday, I only spotted one server for the entire restaurant! Needless to say, I do enjoy the ambiance here with the comfy open booth seating. Something about having pillows to rest on makes the dining experience more relaxing. PS. This is a nice location at the Pavilions. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. There is a self service water and utensils station. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Indoors is a bit noisy so aim to sit outside if you want a more quiet atmosphere. There are heat lamps at each table so it is comfortable even on a cool day. I had the veggie bean burger which was okay. The patty was a bit mushy so didn't hold up well. It didn't come with any sides so it's an extra $2.50 for side salad or $4 for regular or sweet potato fries. The regular fries I tried was perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Love coming to this place. Great location, super clean, very prompt staff and lovely setting. I went and had the Bacon Avocado Omelette which came with sour dough bread with Jam (which was the best Jam I've ever had) and herbed potatoes. Hands down amazing to have fresh avocado and thick pancetta like bacon in the omelette. It was a perfect meal. I've been to the Cafe Bernardo in Davis. It's interesting to see how each location's decor varies and takes on the spirit on the city. In Davis it's bike wheels suspended from the ceiling. In the Pavilions it's more black and white. It reminds me of Napa. There's outdoor patio and indoor seating. The parking is okay. It's a shopping plaza so there's a lot of spots. Service here when I went was full service. At Davis it's order at the counter service. But looking at the other reviews I think it varies day to day. I ordered an ice tea, seasonal pizza (pear and prosciutto), cornmeal Belgian waffle, and a mocha. The presentation on the mocha is so pretty. It comes out in an oversized handleless mug. I didn't take photos of the food. I really liked the seasonal pizza! The bread was deliciously fluffy and crispy at the same time. It has a nice balance of flavors from the goat cheese, prosciutto, and pears. The Belgian waffle is also offered at the Davis location. Unfortunately this day it came out cold so the butter wouldn't melt. We came around noon. I'm guessing the waffle is very popular so they premade some or maybe the pizza took longer than expected so the waffle cooled down by the time we got both items. Great choice for brunch! We went here last week for a family dinner to celebrate 2 birthdays, one of my bro-in-law (BIL) and dad-in-law. It was a great time chatting and eating. My favorite order was the salad sampler and also the carrot cake which I didn't see on the menu this time. My fiancé likes the breakfast burger along with the black bean burger but I think he enjoyed the breakfast burger more! In this recent visit I ordered a half Cobb order and so did my BIL and the server switched up the order. I would suggest to the serving staff that they know which person ordered what so they're not passing the plate around to the customer. And if the same server returned then each person would have gotten their order placed in front of them versus 2 servers asking who ordered what... I also wish they would have specials where price-wise it was reasonable like a holiday entree and a glass of wine for said price for example. I was greeted immediately and asked for a table outside and totally shaded. They accommodated me with a lovely table just outside the bar area, and it was a beautiful setting for our party of six. We all ordered different items and we were all very impressed. My cheeseburger had a delicious grass fed beef patty cooked perfectly. The lettuce, tomato and onion were fresh and nicely assembled. I was really disappointed with the service at Cafe Bernardo at the Pavilion. Since my last visit, they've changed the ordering process and now everyone has to stand in line at the counter. It used to be possible to order through a QR code, which worked much better. Now with only two people taking orders and making drinks during the lunch rush, the line and wait times are much longer. We ordered pizza and fries and I could see them sitting by the kitchen for about 10 minutes before they were brought to us, so they arrived barely warm. I also ordered two sides of their house-made ranch (which cost extra) but only received one. When I asked a server about the second ranch I had already paid for, she brushed me off with attitude. I had to ask multiple times and wait another 10+ minutes just to get something we were already charged for. Overall the service felt disorganized and slow. This was my first time at this particular location and I thoroughly enjoyed the service, ambiance and the meal. This location is tucked in at The Pavilions shopping center and is a great addition to this area. The entrance and dining area is warm and welcoming and for dinner, they seat and serve you which is really nice. My husband and I shared the Salmon BLT sandwich with fries and a bowl of their freshly made cream of potato soup. The sandwich was so good, the salmon was cooked perfectly and had the right amount of flake, the bacon was the perfect touch. The soup was ideal on this super chilly tule fog night (fellow Sacramentons, IYKYK!). It was creamy, flavorful and had the same delicious bacon that was in the Salmon BLT. I do wish the soup had been hotter, it was just barely warm and I like my soups hot. Still very tasty though! I also enjoyed my cocktail as well. Stopped in here for a late-afternoon happy hour with some friends 'cuz I had heard about their salmon BLT sandwich. It's not on the HH menu, but that didn't matter. I was all in for ordering that gem. But - man - so sad - it has the makings of a really nice sandwich, if only the fixings weren't so skimpy. I mean, $17 for a sandwich with no side is pricey, so you expect that it will be edge-to-edge with the ingredients. Nope. As noted in the photo, the salmon piece on one half was maybe the size of a slice of hard-boiled egg. the bacon was a single slice across both sides of the bread. Oh, and don't get me started about "garden weeds" masquerading as lettuce. This didn't even qualify as "Spring Mix." Nope. Hard pass for a reorder on this menu item. Servers are great, but poorly staffed in the Cafe part during the afternoon shift which necessitates ordering at the bar. Not my favorite style of dining. To balance this with what was good: the salmon was flavorful, the bacon was crispy, the tomatoes were juicy and cold, and the toasted white sourdough was delicious. How is it I've never reviewed this location before I do not know. This was one of my go to spots for lunch or happy hour with my beloved mom. When my mom was healthier we loved enjoying a happy hour cocktail on their patio. My mom loved stopping here for a bite after shopping at Talbots across the way. We mostly ordered the Trio Salad Sampler - the mushroom salad was our fave. My mom loved her bubbles so often we'd have a glass of Proseco with our meal. The chocolate covered macaroons are perfection- the crispy coconut is divine. My other favorite meal is the Smoked Salmon salad- so delicious. Today my sister, daughter & I had lunch and shared a bottle of Brut (saying cheers to mom of course). Although it was extremely busy, our server Lexie was outstanding with a cheery attitude. They were just okay - oddly spiced like mulled wine, too much ice, and not a great sangria in my book. Sadly, I was disappointed. My husband got the special cocktail and it was delicious!! Very busy morning! These servers BUST THEIR TAILS. Huge shoutout to Lana at the front who expertly handles the line of customers and manages all the cranky folks with professionalism. Seriously, she's amazing. Our server was excellent. Quick, attentive and friendly. But not a helicopter. Let us hang and work at the table (no line!) and kept the hot coffee coming. Food is always great here. I'm unfortunately trying to make better food choices so went with a scramble instead of the peach and prosciutto pizza (my seasonal fave!). Salads are consistently good. It was quite delicious although it was a little too wet/saucy so everything was sliding and falling apart as I was trying to eat it! Definitely keep the toothpick in there to hold everything together. The salmon salad was a little sad; it's pretty small and felt like it could use better looking veggies. But the salmon filet itself was not bad. You have to wait to be seated; table service. If you just want to order to go or a quick pastry item, there is a register in the front to do that. The grilled salmon salad is the best thing ever. I can't not order it when I come here. It's delicious and lite but also filling. The salmon is flavorful and never dry. The eggs benedict is delicious as well. The rosemary bread really ties everything together. Overall the pricing for their food is reasonable.
