Always a 5 star experience here at Mediterranean Deli. The food is cooked & prepared fresh every single morning and they make their pita bread in house and is available for purchase to take home also. I love their chicken kebab platter with the rice, Greek salad with feta and the pesto pasta salad. The pasta salad is my favorite! The hummus and tzatziki are fantastic! Everything is great leftover as well; the portions are generous, so be prepared to take some food home, depending on your appetite. All the dishes are consistent every single time. I love their drink selections especially the hibiscus tea (delicious when you mix it with some lemonade). They also offer a lovely citrus & cucumber water that is made fresh every morning. They boast variety of desserts and sweet treats. We always take home a piece each of the Italian cream cake and the limoncello cake; both are absolutely delicious. The food there was great but this is definitely an overwhelming experience. Look up the menu ahead of time. I honestly had no clue what I was ordering and there are just so many dishes all piled into the glass case that it's nuts. The menu was absolutely no help in terms of figuring out what something had in it. I have a shellfish allergy and I wanted to make sure that nothing I ordered had shellfish. When I asked one of the guys working there he basically just tried to point out the glass case of food and said that it should be in there with a label. It was just too chaotic. Thankfully the food I chose was tasty. Definitely get the fresh pita! I'm just not sure if I would go back unless I studied what eat type of dish was. Kind of a big fan of this place! Its a must eat every.single.time I visit North Carolina. Not even sure why.... Obviously, as the name states, its mediterranean food. I was a bit confused the first time I went, but quickly got things down. Theres a looong showcase of ready made food: hummus section with garlic, cilantro and other types of delicious hummus. They have fruit skewers, quinoa salads (soo addicted to their tabouli salad), pasta salads, caprese plates, roasted veggies & meats...and basically whatever else is in between. I noticed they also sell fresh juices and acai bowls as well as tasty looking baklava. You figure out what you want and go order at the register then you get a number. Portions come in 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, or 1 lb. Prices are very decent. Then they have a mini self serve sauce bar in the middle of the restaurant where you can help your happy self to as many sauces, olives, or pickled radishes as you'd like. I love the spicy green sauce and that yogurt looking white one. My only gripe is that one time they put my saucy quinoa in the same box as the flaky pastry....in the process of getting home, the juice and pastry mixed and made it soggy-.- read more

What a beautiful and delicious deli! My girlfriend and I came into town late in the evening, looking for something quick near campus to bring back to our hotel to share. Luckily the Mediterranean Deli was still open and it was a wonderful experience. We shared a falafel pita which had the right mix of contrasting textures and flavors: the crunchy and big pieces of falafel, the smooth and nutty tahini dressing, and bright vegetables. We couldn't pass up the options in the deli counter either. We got a four-pack sampler, which included a warm grilled peach salad, grape leaves, spanakopita, and moussaka. The peach salad was the highlight of the group with the perfect blend of sweet, savory, and freshness. The dessert counter was impressive as well, with a variety of traditional Mediterranean and American desserts. Campus restaurants are often overrated, but I can assure you that is not the case with Med Deli. It is an institution for a reason, and I have never been to a restaurant that is as consistent as Med Deli is in their quality and service. The quality is the same every single time I come in, which is just so impressive. Add to that the fact that the food is fresh and delicious, and the fact that they have a free (!) condiment bar, and the fact that as a gluten-sensitive person they have fantastic food and dessert options, and I'm really not sure what else you could want me to add to convince you to come here. Med deli is fabulous. They have so many delicious vegan and plant-based options that it was hard for me to choose. I got the sampler plate of four for myself (though should've gotten three items - four was a lot): grilled tofu salad, grilled broccoli, lentil vegetable salad, and Palestinian chickpea avocado salad. It came with fresh pita. The condiments bar was amazing - roasted garlic, tahini, pickled beets, and a variety of sauces. Everything is served on plates, and there are glasses and metal utensils. The falafel with their tahini and hummus are some of my favorite things at med deli! They just have the best, crispy and fragrant falafel that are to die for! They also have a huge variety of hummus - just ask them what kinds they have and they'll list a bunch! They're great with pita. The tzatziki here is also incredible! It's great on anything, really, but I also like to eat it with my pita. As for other sampler items, they have an array of probably 20-30 sides to choose from, and all of them are great! There's really something for everyone, so this is definitely a must-visit Mediterranean restaurant to go to in the triangle. A bonus is their olives and condiments bar! Became a fan after it catered a few work events. The kebab chicken is decent at some of the work catering events, but the real specialty is the protein meal specials displayed when you first walk in. I always get the Mediterranean Jerk chicken, which comes with 2 sides. The chickpea and spinach salad is always a tasty staple. Just the right amount of spice and cumin that I'd love to replicate at home, but haven't figured out yet. My 2nd side is either the curry cabbage or the roasted beets. Both are great sides. We stayed near Duke University in Durham but decided to check out this place in Chapel Hill - it was the only "Greek" place with nearly nine hundred five-star reviews. Now I understand why. I usually don't eat parsley; I don't particularly appreciate how it tastes, but their Tabouli salad has heavenly. Now I need to learn how to prepare it at home. This place was good, when you go in it is a little overwhelming you grab a pencil and a piece of paper and you write down what you want in the cases, everything looks wonderful and fresh, my thought in my head they have some great pasta dishes in the cases but do they heat them or do they stay cold, so I ordered a couple and they did come to me both ways, hot and cold. There were 4 of us and we all loved our food. When you go in there is a flat bread pizza grill over to the left of the cases, and will be on my hit list next time I go and I will ask more questions. A Chapel Hill institution, and for a reason. If it's your first time in, prepare to take your time in ordering. It can be overwhelming to see the sheer variety of options behind those sparkly glass cases. The condiments alone will stop you in your tracks. And for all of the variety, I've never had a single bad thing. The salads are fresh and the flavors are strong. The meats are tender and the pitas are soft. The olives are plentiful and the condiments runneth over. And the pastries speak for themselves. Service is very efficient for as crowded as it gets. I am by no means an expert nor a connoisseur of fine Mediterranean foods, but this place deserves a special place in the hearts of all RTP residents. This is my new favorite restaurant in RTP. While it is indeed a 5-star experience, the only reason I have dropped this place to 4 stars is due to several errors in our to-go meal. The Good 1. This place is a haven for meat-eaters and vegetarians alike. There are so many options in the deli-style displays along with the opportunity to order dishes such as gyros. 2. Their price-to-quantity ratio is superb. Their combo meals and overall food quantity is significant. My wife and I ordered about $40 worth of food that gave roughly 6-7 portion sizes worth of food. 3. I LOVE their sauces bar. To me, one of the most distinguishing features of Mediterranean food is the sauces. Their spicy green sauce and Tzatziki yogurt sauce were the highlights of my meal. 4. We saw the owner supervising his staff. A genuinely friendly man who wants to give his customers a great experience. 5. Their little attached grocery store is an excellent place to grab marinated meats, vegetables, and Mediterranean spices. The Bad 1. There were errors in our final order despite the receipt reflecting exactly what we requested. We ordered 2 fateyers. We received one fateyer and another item that appears to be a round pizza (ie was not a fateyer). We asked for a half pound of hummus which did not get included. We requested one Baklava and got 2. I was disappointed with their lack of accuracy given that they should have experience with deli-style ordering as that is the way their restaurant is arranged. Their staff fell short in the accuracy. COVID MANAGEMENT (As a physician, this matters a lot to me, and I certainly check closely for this!) -Social Distancing in Place? SOMEWHAT. The sauce/olive bar had a sign clearly stating that one person at a time can be present, however while I was picking my sauces other customers were coming up to the bar and there was no enforcement. Wow! Such good service! The lamb shawarma was savory, delicious, and meaty. They have a free condiment bar with olives and dips, which enhanced the flavor of the food. I almost gave this restaurant 5 stars, but the dessert was a bit soggy. I had the Kanafeh and walnut baklava, which were soggy and tasted a bit on the older side. The Kanafeh lacked crispness and cheese pull that you expect with it. If the desserts were fresher and crispier, then this restaurant would be a 5 out of 5. There are so many options here, and it seems popular with students. I love that the garage door style windows open up to energetic Franklin Street. There's an olive bar (unpitted) and they are so flavorful. Food wise, I had a falafel pita, some sundried tomato pasta salad, and some three bean salad. The salads were both great but the falafel was a bit dry. They had yogurt sauce out, but I decided not to add any. Kanafeh was one of many deserts. One of the classics in CH! Med Deli is a casual Mediterranean establishment that offers huge portions at a reasonable price point. I always have leftovers for the next day. For first timers the endless options may feel super overwhelming, but some of my favorites include the Moroccan or Mediterranean chicken with two sides or the three/four item vegetarian sampler. Some of favorite sides include: kale salad, Moroccan couscous, hummus, cauliflower, tofu, or the avocado salad. The service is always consistent, they're very quick, but if you need help they will always take the time to explain -- though you may need to ask. Ambiance is super homey and casual! The food is always on point and whether you take out food or you go sit down on the Terra's or inside, it is always a nice ambiance. They have a huge selection of sides and some great proteins. I always love their curry cabbage but they have a bunch of great salads to pick from. Make sure to have some of their in-house baked pita and their great hummus. My family and I stared at their menu for some time. After some careful selections (and some negotiating to try some of their choices) we finally made our decisions. I went with the Chicken Shawarma. Yes! What I was looking for. Until ... I tried my daughter's Beef Shawarma. Hmmm, did I make a mistake, the Beef was so good. Then, I tried my wife's plate (which was a sampler plate of 4 selections). There was a stuffed pepper, roasted eggplant, stuffed grape leaves, and a Fettoush salad. Wow! The bottom line. Try this place, but bring friends so you can sample their choices. Otherwise, it will take you years to get though this menu. And let's not forget dessert. They have a whole window case dedicated to traditional desserts and other varieties. We were so stuffed, we could not try anything at the time. But we did take a huge sample with us for later (and it was quite good ... especially the baklava). Finally ... for those out there on a Gluten Free diet (which applies to some of my family members) you will be amazed that they offer GF pita for the sandwiches. The deli was counter service. Order at the counter and find a seat for yourself. The tables were close together, which made me feel uncomfortable in the midst of a pandemic. It was the perfect buffet for pre-wedding time, and the food was delicious as always. The kebobs were juicy, and the falafels were large, soft on the inside, and crispy on the outside. What a treat this was! Our family in Chapel Hill recommended we eat here for lunch and it did not disappoint! This Mediterranean option is located on the Main Street through campus and has TONS of seating options. It brings you right to Greece with the immense amount of flavors and options. I absolutely had a hard time picking what to eat with all the salad options they had. The lunch platter is the way to go in my opinion because it allows you to try multiple salads at once. Food here is extremely bland. Hard to believe they've achieved this with Mediterranean food, but here we are. Ordered chicken shawarma and chicken pita. The overall quality and taste is best described as "cafeteria food," and I'm surprised, because while I won't expect the same quality as food I've had in Bulgaria, Greece, Germany, and England, I would still expect it to be flavorful.
