I always bring the hummus, cucumber yogurt, falafels and babaganouj to potlucks and everyone rave's. Many of them make the trek from Sunnyvale and Santa Clara to come here as well for their own family gatherings! That is how good this place is as there are many Mediterranean restaurants between here and there but once you have tried this hummus and falafels you will always want it. This is a late post. My bday was In December and I ordered some catering. The good was delicious, everyone of my guests were asking about this business. My cousin picked up for me and she mentioned that they were very helpful and carried the trays to her car. I will definitely use their service again. This place deserves at least 4 stars. Food is fresh and authentic. I had the falafel plate and their falafel balls were probably the best I've ever tried, and I've had tons of falafel. Very friendly and quick service, and at a very fair price. The owner was a nice guy who told me they've been in business for 14 years. Everything they make is home made so it has a very authentic taste. Make sure to get a piece of baklava as well, maybe the best baklava I've ever tried and the portions are very generous. One star for attitude and one because this place has a good menu and food tastes good, but the owner's super hot temper who lacks on manners will take a tool on you. After taking a seat outside in a rainy day, being attended by my service dog, I was told to move to the last table of the empty terrace bc customers don't like dogs. After moving to the last table I tried to explain that I am attended by a service animal and I should not be marginalized just bc I have my dog with me. He started raising his voice telling me that if my dog is a service animal, should wear a vest, which is actually not required by law in order not to attract attention upon having a disability. He left inside yelling at me that he loves dogs and if I don't like his rules I shall leave. Location is good parking is fair. Food is just ok I would I really would have thought that for the prices your portion would be a bit generous. Our waitresses was really nice and helpful. She made sure she always checked on our table. I think the cook is the owner of the restaurant and its a bad look when he's sitting out front of the restaurant smoking cigarettes. Not only that... then once your order is put in he will leave his spot outside and start to cook. I don't really think that is professional or good for business. For my previous review, I gave Mediterranean Delite only two stars because they gave me a stomachache. The main issue was their terrible falafel; it was strangely springy, spongy (not crisp) and exceedingly greasy. Imagine my surprise when I returned 5 years later to pick up a family dinner order (not my idea), and their falafel was Exactly.The.Same. (I guess part of me hoped they had figured things out). It's hard to believe they continue to serve this stuff. They should really change the name on the menu, from "Falafel" to "OIL GLOBES". Just think of the headlines: "Med Delite's OIL GLOBES Take Out Southern Section of San Carlos. News at 11." "Bouncing OIL GLOBES on El Camino; Swath of Gastric Devastation in Their Path" "Scientists Say Mediterranean Delite's OIL GLOBES Have Set a New High for Oil Saturation by Any Known Substance" So, as you might imagine, I had already opted for something else when I was prompted for my food order (I chose the Kofta Kabob plate). But at pickup time I did try one of the falafel balls from the side order we had purchased. Even though they were warm and freshly cooked, they still the very worst I've had. I can only surmise they set the frying oil temperature too low; or they didn't drain them afterwards; probably both. Let me be crystal clear here. I LOVE falafel. Really good falafel should be cooked-to-order, should have a crispy exterior (like a shell), but then should be soft on the inside (but not oily) - almost like warm, dense bread. But enough about the falafel. How was my kofta kabob plate? Small, overcooked and very dry; definitely not a repeat order. Our family meal wasn't a total loss. My wife and daughter enjoyed their chicken schwarma plates, despite the small portions. So maybe Med Delite still deserves two-stars. On the other hand, I couldn't help notice all the fake-looking 5-star reviews attempting to prop-up the rating. I'll take one a star off to compensate, though it likely won't make a dent. Side Note: If I didn't know better, I would say the owner hates me. (I swear I've never dated his daughter; nor have I swindled him in any business deals). On my recent visit, after I picked up my food, he walked outside the front door, lit up a cigarette, and gave me an angry stare as I got into my car, and then continued to stare me down (eye contact) as I drove all of the way out of the parking lot. I am not making this up (nor is this the first time). But after reading other reviews, I can see I am not the only one to experience similar, bizarre treatment from him. Other reviewers have called him the "Kabob Nazi," similar to the famous Seinfeld character. But there's a major flaw in that comparison. I'm really sad to report that I will no longer contribute my hard earned money to this establishment. Earlier today, my colleague was so kind to call in a catering order I'd requested for next week only to engage with not one, but TWO completely rude employees who: 1. Insisted on a minimum charge for delivery after she'd repeatedly told them that the order would cost upward of $300.00; and 2. Called her back assuming that she'd provided a fake company name I felt completely terrible after she'd reported this to me as she was really just trying to help. Honestly, I can't say that I'm surprised because I recall another colleague previously mentioning that she'd ended up in a verbal altercation with one of the female employees during a dine-in experience some time ago. Went here last week for lunch with coworkers. Upon arrival I scored a parking spot right in front of the restaurant. There was already a line forming out the door but it moved fairly quickly thanks to the owner behind the counter. Like other reviews have mentioned, he's like the soup Nazi from Seinfeld. Make sure you know what you want to order and don't ask any questions otherwise no falafel for you!!! He is serious business, not once that he smile while we were there. I ordered the Grilled Lamb & Beef Plate ($10.95). We also ordered a dozen falafels ($5.95) to share. Our server brought out ice waters for us and after 5 minutes our food was brought out. The grilled & beef plate is mixed with red onions,tomatoes on a bed of basmati rice topped with grilled zucchini. Included is a Greek salad and pita bread. This place has been consistently good for many years, even between owners, and is one of my family's favourite Mediterranean places between San Carlos and Redwood City. The plates in particular are excellent - we love all the different kabobs, but the best two are probably the combo plate and the steak kabob plate. The food was a decent price and okay - but honestly the owners are a little pushy. I may come back here if I need something quick on my lunch hour - BUT this is NOT the place to meet up with friends. They want to move the tables fast so when you spend 50 bucks on a table of four adults even if you have been there only 30min including eating - as soon as you pay the bill they want you to leave. They will literally come over and ask you to leave so they can move the table even if you are in the middle of feeding a baby a bottle. It was a tight space so I was sitting the baby on the table top while feeding her instead of my lap and the owner seriously told me to take the baby off the table because if the baby broke the table she would be very upset - seriously my baby weighs 15lbs?! if your table cant handle that you have bigger problems. They get a 3 for food - it was decent but I have had way better. The server himself gets a 4 - he was great BUT the owners influence really brings this place down to a 2 for me. read more

Someone earlier reviewed this establishment and said, "I am tired of the anxious feeling I get when I call to place an order or walk in. They are plain RUDE." Well, I dined here yesterday for the first time and not be likely to order from them again. My single experience at Mediterranean Delite is exactly what that reviewer said she experiences every time. Bad. The lady behind the counter was irritated that I asked to order my meal to go, in advance of my friends arriving for us to dine in. I had to persuade her to place my order. We were fortunately seated when everyone arrived (the place has about 12 small tables and luckily two became free for us to sit together). After I sat down with my food, she came over, reached over my plate and took away one of the condiments that was given with my to go order - telling me something about "blah blah is on the table, you do not need this." WTF?! No one has a right to reach onto my plate and take something! Extremely unprofessional, disrespectful and inappropriate. One note, the young gal that was tidying our table was pleasant. She is probably aware of the older peoples' (owners?) attitudes, and she then probably feels embarassed by their behavior. If she's their daughter, I'm sorry for her having to be in that position. If she's unrelated, I hope she is able to find better employers to work for. The food. The lamb kebab tasted good, but I much prefer the taste of the lamb kebabs at House of Falafel in Cupertino. I popped in for lunch to go. My overall impression was good. The staff were friendly. My food was ready in under seven minutes. The falafel were wonderful: crispy, chewy, not soggy, not dry. I mixed the spicy sauce with the tahini sauce for a delightful mixture. Tip: when you have falafel to go, make sure to let them breathe so they stay crisp. Don't close the container or they will become mushy and soggy. The lamb shawarma was a bit of a disappointment. The wrap dominated the filling. The lamb within was decent, but they can give more lamb and more sauce to make it a more consistent sandwich. That's about all I tried so I will definitely return to try more of the menu. read more

This review is loooooong overview. I've been going to Mediterranean Delite since the beginning of time and have never been disappointed. The menu is somewhat limited but what they serve they serve really well. On of my my favorites is the chicken family meal... a whole roast chicken that comes with pita and two sides. I always opt for the babaganoush and hummus and add on extra sides of rice, tabouleh, and Greek salad. All of these dishes are made consistently well. Load them up on pita with hot and tahini sauces and your on the road to paradise. I also love the fish filet dinner, veggie combo platter with amazing falafel, and vegetarian moussaka (very different from Greek moussaka and more of a medley of roasted vegetables in a delicious tomato sauce). I've never had their lamburger but know people who swear by it. A FEW TIPS... Seating is limited. So, it pays to come early or a bit late... but they close down by 8pm and often run out of roast chicken well before then. If you want the roast chicken dinner to go, just call well ahead of time to reserve your order. read more

There are a few things to point out about this place. The food is actually really good and THAT is about it. The overall customer experience, I'd rate a -10. Here is why. First: the owner smokes on the corner chair that is near the sidewalk facing El Camino. Why Sir do you do this? While it technically doesnt violate Labor Code Section 6404.6, you are SO close to the door, all of the smoke goes into the restaurant which deems is as though you are smoking inside. No one wants to smell this let alone while they are eating. Second: It is the owners right to have a no cell phone policy on the premesis. However, yelling at people who may not see your tiny dated wooden sign from 1970 hanging on the wall is unacceptable. I would encourage your staff to communicate this so that your patrons know. Yelling gets you no where. Third: Please don't stand over someone while they are eating and proceed to tell them how to eat the food? Its very intrusive and rude. Perhaps, creating a little note with suggesions might be better. There was an incident, where the owner decided to walk up and put more tahini on my falafel. Not a word, no ask..just threw it on there and walked away. Also, the green garlic sauce, why again is it free when dining in BUT you charge for take out? That makes NO sense what so ever. Then again, the whole experience again leaves you saying "What just happened" Finally: Harassment. I took my colleague there for her birthday. The owner asked if we have been there before. I mentioned to him, I have been but she had not and it was also her birthday. He took it upon himself to seat us and tell us how we should eat their food. We ordered, he checked on us again. This time, he said "how are you honeys?" After being called "honey" "pretty honey" over a dozen times, it was at that point where we felt very uncomfortable. He really took a liking to my co-worker, touched her shoulder etc. When his wife arrived, it was at that moment, he wanted NOTHING to do with us. We tried to engage him such as, "Can we get a refill on tea?" "May we get the check?" and he ignored us. When he came by to get our plates, he just grabbed them and said nothing. Again, the food is good BUT at what cost. The owners and staff act like they are doing everyone else a favor for being there which is NOT the case. If you want to enjoy second hand smoke, get yelled at, harassed and be constantly be told how to eat their food, please do stop by. As for myself, I will no longer give this place my money or time. read more

The lamb unfortunately is a bit dry as other reviews have mentioned, but the homemade hummus, couscous, and tabouli are really good. Overall, this is a decent, reasonably priced lunch stop. This is a very hard place to review. The food is amazing, like waaaaay better than the competition. I've eaten there twice now, and I've loved the lamb gyro and the half chicken plate. I brought my co-worker here and raved about the good prices , delicious tastes, and generious portions. The problem? The owner is really rude, so much in fact today I wanted to walk out, but he turned on his attitude and poor deamenor after we paid, so we had to stay pretty much. He showed his first glimpse of lunacy when my buddy handed him a ten instead of a twenty. There was no one in line behind us, and he gave my boy look of " now I will kill you." totally irate and we both looked at each other and rolled our eyes. We wait for our food and don't think much of it. Then the owner storms to the table and proclaims to my friend , pointing to his bottle of smart water. "That is NOT ALLOWED in here!! No outside beverages!! "Totally making a scene and freaking out. It would be one thing to say it to my friend when he was drinking his water while ordering. It's not uncommon to walk in drinking water on a 100 plus degree day, to a deli type atmosphere. But to wait after we order and then make a scene, c'mon now. The lunch arrived and was amazing, but this guy's attitude is uncalled for . FInally he patrolled our table like a hawk picking up every last piece of rice that had fallen off my plate and then frowning at us. I asked him for a second napkin, and I have to admit that I thought he was gonna go off. I don't know what his malfunction is, but it seems as though he's really pissed off at the world. We have been going to Mediterranean Delite for the last 20 years. Ownership has changed hands multiple times, and the food has remained consistently great this whole time, even with new owners this year. New owners often bring new dishes, but the old standbys never go away. Their kofta and shawarma are both top notch, as are their hummus, baba and falafel. They are great for takeout. Normally, we call and order directly, but I decided to use Grubhub last night so I could pay ahead of time. As convenient as that can be, I learned it can take a couple of weeks for Grubhub to pay the restaurant, so I will also go back to calling directly. (I learned all this because one of the items I ordered and paid for was missing, but it was simple and easy to get a refund from Grubhub.) read more

I hardly eat medittereanean style cuisine, but I find that this place is one of the best spots to eat at when I'm in the mood. It's always busy it seems every time I decide to go here which is already a plus! The decor is nice, vibrant and very welcoming. A real family vibe and the owner Naz is very friendly!! I usually get the beef and lamb gyro but since I was dining in I opted with a plate version. It comes w hummus, tambouli and pita bread... Amazing combo with both the sauces drizzled each bite was a refreshing bliss of savory meat and crisp seasoned veggies a definite pallet shocker!! This place is awesome! A friend and I happened to stumble upon this restaurant and decided to try it out. We both ordered the lamb and beef shawerma and hummus and devoured it. ATTN: Racist person works here. I walked into this place at 12.06pm on 1.23.18 to order food. I was starving and LOVE mediterranean food! This man, short with unpleasant facial hair and a little smelly walks up behind me to assist (he was the owner) & I say "Oh you scared me, haha." As I start to order he responds with, "I scared you?? You look like ISIS!" I expressed to him he should never call a man who is brown with a beard "ISIS" & left that nonsense immediately. Inappropriate behavior on many levels. You're a restaurant owner man, be smart. It's already a very tough business, why make it harder by being a racist and turning customers away. I imagine this man and his people have been discriminated against time and time again. How uneducated do you have to be? We love this place. Our favorites are the Grilled Chicken Plate (w. couscous instead of rice), shawarma plate (lamb & beef), Greek Salad with chicken, and the dolma plate. On a side note: Why do people not realize that when they have minor issues with a place and say "the food gets 5 stars but the service was lacking, therefore I give them lower rating" they hurt the business disproportionately? Sad to see that other customers have found the owner unsatisfactory, but as I am to base this review on my experience, it has been very positive the couple times I went! The last time I went, I sat down by myself to a falafel wrap with feta and french fries, and they were so good. The falafel was crisp but soft on inside (as it should be) + with lots of feta, and the fries portion was big and hot! Maybe the best part are the side sauces, especially the garlicky one. The owner and waitstaff were particularly friendly and helpful, and though it was the first time I had gone in a couple years, the waiter said he recognized me and made small talk after I finished. This is a Mediterranean restaurant located off El Camino. It's a bit hard to find because the signage is not super clear from El Camino. Luckily there is a small parking lot that it shares with Baskin Robbins and some other businesses. I tried the spinach pie and the Greek salad. I've had other spinach pies before and I was expecting the flaky crust. This one was more of a bread with some spinach stuffed inside. Never thought I would find a great Mediterranean place in this sleepy part of El Camino in San Carlos. But was I wrong. I passed by this place lots of times before but had never gone in because it didn't look very appealing from the outside - don't let looks fool you as this casual place has very tasty falafel and shawerma with fantastic friendly service. Falafel was excellent - it was fresh from the fryer and so tasty with the white sauce available on the tables. The beef and lamb in the shawerma plate were very flavorful. The hummus was delicious and tasted freshly made. Pitas came warm from the oven. On top of the good food, they provide such friendly service if you eat at their tables even though this is a casual place where you order at the counter and can take out or eat on premises. Water was filled couple of times, the guy came by several times and asked how we were doing. It felt like service from a 5-star restaurant. Bottom line: I'm a definite repeat customer. 4 stars for the food + 1 star for the great service. But come armed with mints/gum because they are not shy with garlic in some of their items and sauces. read more
