For dinner we ordered the New York and Filet cuts of beef, each had a different sauce base and both were light and not overpowering (we like to be able to taste the beef). I have visited this place on three occasions at three different times and I was pleased with it every time. My first trip was late at night to their bar. It wasn't overly crowded and the ambiance was mellow and inviting. We had good service and I left there thinking, "What a cool little spot!" Second trip was in the afternoon, and again, to the bar for some drinks to unwind after work. The bartender was friendly and attentive. Again, there was just enough people to make it fun and inviting. One of the other patrons was celebrating his birthday and a round of shots went around to everyone at the bar. It was reminiscent of my favorite bar back at home! The bartender recommended the mac and cheese which is HEAVENLY!! Again, I left thinking, "What a cool place!" My last trip was before noon and the place was empty. They gave us the option to sit out on the patio which was so relaxing. My biggest fear of sitting so out of sight is... out of sight, out of mind (i.e. bad service). However, must say...service was excellent. Update - Mediterraneo catered my 25-person wedding and did an awesome, awesome job. We got the risotto, stuffed eggplant, chicken penne, and lasagna - the stuffed eggplant was the crowd favorite but everything was loved by all! They even made a separate portion of risotto without cheese for my gluten free / dairy free mother in law :) And they threw in a bread basket that I didn't even ask for! Stopped for dinner on our way home from Viejas, and we are so glad we did! Family owned, sweet little spot with amazing service!!! The homemade pasta was incredible - even after 8pm on a weeknight, when some restaurants are just trying to rush you out. This restaurant was so authentic and everything was perfect! Was in the mood for pizza and didn't want pizza hut or any of the other crappy pizza available in Alpine and decided to give these guys a try. Their pizza is VERY VERY good! Slightly on the more expensive side, but that is because it is real authentic hand made pizza and is delicious and you get your money's worth. The crust is nice and thin and it reminds me of my favorite pizza place back home in New Jersey (DiLorenzo's Tomato Pies, Trenton, NJ) . I will def go going back and getting me another Mediterraneo tomato pie and I'm so glad I found a good pizza in Alpine for once. The owner and the employees were all super friendly too. This place!!! We have been coming here for a few years since it's nearby. But recently have been super impressed! The spaghetti and meatballs are seriously one of the best I've had (including Italy!) super affordable for the portion size too. I've always had great experiences here, but what made me take the time to give a 5 star review is our waitress tonight. I believe her name was Elise? She was super attentive and sweet. The Mediterraneo restaurant has always been a favorite of ours. We were there last night (may 12) to celebrate our anniversary. The food was not good, even the artichoke appetizer was just OK. The waitress was very sweet but she hovered and needs to be trained not to do that. I know this is very hard times for those in the restaurant business and you are short-staffed so I'm sure we'll give you another try. But we were very disappointed and spent a lot of money for a less than mediocre meal. read more

Mediterraneo had become old and tired. It is now revitalized after changing management. The menu is much more exciting with many new Italian options. The pastas are delicious, especially the Portofino and the mussels with seafood pasta and linguine. They also have delicious pizza with creative toppings. The wine list is decent, the cocktails are good and service is good. Happy to have a new local spot for dinner again. read more

I cannot tell a lie (as far as you know!), but I have been eating here for 20 years. The food is delish and the staff is always super on their game. Make a reservation for ANY night if you have more than 2 people and DON'T be in a hurry, the food will arrive hot and awesome but this is a notch above and they don't rush it they create it. You will not be disappointed in the quality but don't expect it to arrive in 10-15 minutes. They will make the dish vegan when possible and if requested so my youngest daughter loves it and her older sister loves the salmon and the surprisingly fantastic hamburgers they make ( after all it's Italian not American). It used to just be Alpiners here but now people are coming from all over San Diego and the many people who visit for other events often end up here. I don't really want it to get more crowded but the family is so nice I have to highly recommend it. Ciao read more

I have lived in Alpine for a couple of years and have not tried this restaurant until tonight. This is definitely a local spot and has a great reputation around town. That was obvious tonight, lots of regulars there based on the conversations I heard. First impressions: 1. It is a lot smaller inside than you would think based from the outside. 2. Nice covered patio 3. Staff was all super friendly 4. Overall seemed very clean We were seated and within minutes had water and bread brought to our table. Our waiter seemed a little flustered by the time he got to us though. We ordered our drinks and dinners at the same time. I got a soda that was filled to the brim with ice. It literally was just a couple if sips and it was gone. One of my pet peeves in a restaurant is having to ask for refills. The servers all seemed flustered but there were two bussers who could have certainly helped in this area. With their prices you expect better. For my dinner I ordered the NY strip medium with mash and we got the Mac and cheese kids meal. I was so unimpressed with my dinner. For starters the meat was well done and tough. Secondly half of this supposed NY strip was fat that was not rendered down. I had a bread plate full of the fat I spit out or cut away from the steak. And the mashed potatoes were super lumpy with huge chunks of potato throughout. If that wasn't bad enough there was no seasoning. Let me be clear, I am not someone who ever uses salt and pepper at restaurants. Here, I had to. Not good when the meal was $25.00! We also got desert. I couldn't make up my mind so I tried the dessert flight with a mini canoli, mini creme brulee, and mini cheesecake. First of all the cheesecake is disgusting! It literally tasted like there was paint in there! So gross. The canoli was slathered with cheap chocolate sauce which totally killed it for me and the inside was runny. The creme brulee was mediocre at best but the best part of this dessert flight. Overall this restaurant needs to work on the finesse and execution. The staff was friendly but could not anticipate the needs of guests by getting refills etc. Mashed potatoes at a restaurant should not be lumpy! And steak should be cooked at the requested temperature and be seasoned appropriately. Especially if you want to pretend to be more high end than the other restaurants in town. Totally disappointed and do not plan on returning. read more

They have one side of the restaurant that has a more upscale dining area and the other bar side that has games, TVs, and a great bar menu . Whatever menu you order from the food is always amazing. We have gone in, in the past for dinner. Tonight however we visited the new extension...bar, game room after eating across the way. Service was awesome! Bartender knew exactly how to make our drinks, was friendly, and efficient. The new section was beautiful! Huge projector screen for games (or whatever is the hot ticket at the moment) clean and well priced pool table and games, and clean bathrooms, which in my opinion really makes a odd or fail for a place. The fact that I was able to have my daughter with me in the game room was amazing cause we were all entertained but still able to enjoy ourselves without worrying if she was being a pill for a babysitter. I've been coming here for almost 10 years now. I have always had great service and great food. Tonight I was ignored the whole night at the end of the bar. I made a comment about my meatball sandwich taking over 45 minutes to get (still came out wrong) and SAM was offended and had to let me know that I wasn't funny. I haven't had such terrible service or been treated so rudely by an employee until tonight. The food was great but the service was completely unacceptable. I hope Sam doesn't get a chance to treat another customer as rudely as he treated me. read more

One observation: waitresses are friendly and professional, but shouldn't be chewing gum, popping bubbles, and letting it hang out her mouth!
