They give you a little cream container to pour it over but we didn't have to use it .In this type of hot weather ... it's the perfect desert to cool off ! The Mangoberry dish was also very refreshing and delicious. It consisted of mango and strawberries over shaved ice with cream . The shaved ice is not the fine type but still good because it gives the dessert a little crunch to it . That's the two I would recommend. This place has quite a bit of tables and premises were very clean. The staff were helpful with the order but not overly friendly. They offer free comp water and extra bowls (no charge ) if need to share because the desserts were big enough to share ... I think it's a little expensive but if you share it with others then it's not too bad . The menu has a lot to offer and everything sounded good so it was hard to choose . What this place offers is a comfortable place to chitchat with friends, especially after dinner since they close later than most restaurants. I tried both the mango and the strawberry milk saved ice. I prefer the strawberry milk shaved ice. Every bite had so much flavor and it wasn't overly sweet. It had real pieces of strawberry fruit topped with a scoop of ice cream. The shaved ice was adequately coated with condensed milk. Meet Fresh is located on the ground floor of Ala Moana, close to the post office. I really wanted to try their shave ice but since we were taking out, I settled for a boba drink instead. I got their lemon wintermelon tea with boba and my mom got their lilikoi green tea with boba (the worker was so nice to strain out the seeds). My drink was a little on the tart side with not much flavor, but my moms was the really good and I loved the lilikoi flavor. I'm sure if I went with the regular wintermelon it would've been good cause I love wintermelon. But it's okay cause I always like trying new things. I come here because I like the food. Service - Pretty good. They've been accommodating with our weird "can I have this instead of this..." or "can you add this on..." requests. Was so excited when I saw that Meet Fresh was going to be at Ala Moana. I tried this place several years ago in San Diego and remembered liking it:). They're located on the ground floor near Starbucks. We came here during their grand opening which was madness and took me almost 40 mins to get my take out order. Their wait times have improved drastically since then..maybe 10 mins max during slower times. They have a kiosk you can also place orders at. We got one of their signature cold grass jelly desserts that remind me of my childhood. There were Mochi balls and a layer of shaved ice. I did like that it wasn't too sweet and they did offer half and half if you preferred it with cream. I do recommend you eat this in store vs take out cause the take out portions are much smaller for the same price. The desserts are pretty large and can be shared with another person. A couple of months ago, while en route to our favorite Starbucks Café at Ala Moana Center's Street Level after exercising, I was drawn to the colorful signboards for the upcoming opening of the Meet Fresh dessert chain. I recognized this Taiwanese dessert chain name from reading fellow Yelp friends' reviews and seeing a couple of their storefronts while in SoCal. Admittedly, my family doesn't have a sweet tooth or care for boba tea shops, so we've not sought dessert shops like this. However, I have a sweet tooth but have done my best to curb it since I used to cook and bake professionally before settling down. Anyway, the draw to Meet Fresh for me is their grass jelly desserts, which we recently visited during their soft opening. One of the few Chinese desserts that I grew up with was Grass Jelly (leung fun 涼粉 - Cantonese), or it's referred to as "xian cao" (仙草) in Taiwan. I have fond memories of my grandfather and mother making this black jelly during Summer and keeping a huge plastic tub of it in the refrigerator. My siblings and I would eagerly scoop out and cut the jelly into cubes and sweeten it with maple syrup. We'd pour some maple syrup or my mom's brown sugar syrup over the chilled jelly cubes to improve the slightly smoky-tasting and bitter herbal gelatin. On rare occasions, we'd sometimes use a drizzle of condensed or evaporated milk with fresh-cut fruits like mangoes, lychees, loquats, or pitaya. Seeing the grass jelly (served as cold or hot desserts) brought about childhood reveries. During our visit during the soft opening, we ordered Meet Fresh's Icy Signature Grass Jelly for $9.75 and took advantage of the Mini Q Winter Melon Tea for $1. The service was quick and friendly as we received our dessert order within 10 minutes from placing our order.. The cashier was efficient and even asked us if we had any questions about the dessert. Well, seeing how a line of customers formed behind us, we quickly completed our transaction without asking any questions. The cashier gave us our receipt and informed us about our order number to claim our desserts since we chose to dine in. The Icy Signature Grass Jelly was a good-sized bowl filled with shaved ice topped with grass jelly and taro balls. Meet Fresh provided us with a small container of Coffee-mate non-dairy creamer instead of simple syrup. I thought that receiving non-dairy liquid creamer was an excellent choice since lactose-intolerant customers will also be able to enjoy the dessert. Meet Fresh's grass jelly was delicate and a softer gelatin dessert than what I'm used to, and the taro balls were also soft and chewy like Japanese mochi rice cakes. We didn't use the non-dairy creamer. The grass jelly dessert was cooling, not too sweet, refreshing, and healthy. While eating the grass jelly, I was also reminded of my mother's advice about the medicinal properties of herbal teas. The Chinese are attentive to their body's inner harmony and believe diet affects overall well-being. Food and herbs are categorized by whether they heat or cool the body's metabolism. Overeating food considered "Heat-producing," such as fried foods, fatty meat such as pork belly, cherries, ginger, chocolate, onions, and more, will tip a person's metabolism to become unbalanced with health issues. There is an herbal tea called "leung cha 涼茶" or "cooling tea" that tastes similar to grass jelly and promotes similar health benefits properties or maintaining internal body harmony, especially during hot Summertime. Although the herbal tea and the grass jelly taste similar, after all, dried herbs will taste bitter and earthy; they are made up of different herbs. But, I prefer eating the grass jelly to drinking herbal tea, usually served at a hot temperature. While we were eating our dessert, we signed up for Meet Fresh's app so we'll be able to order and pay in advance and earn reward points. I went at 2:30 and service was very fast. I heard from a friend that things were on the milder side, but the strawberry shave ice had what felt like strawberry jam as the syrup and was very sweet. A closer look makes me think they add condensed milk to the ice too. The medium size feels like a large. The ice is on the crunchy side, but that works well with the soft strawberry slices and gives it a fun texture. OMG! I am so excited to have real Taiwanese treats so easily available in Honolulu. The menu is so extensive and the people so nice! If you're not familiar with Taiwanese food, I recommend anything taro (mochi balls, mashed taro paste), the soups, and the soft tofu pudding with peanuts. If you haven't had Chinese taro, it is more flavorful than Hawaiian taro and has a nice scent. Taiwanese people love to put taro in their desserts. I've been here five times in five days since it opened. My favorite is the hot red bean soup signature. It is perfect. The smooth red (azuki) bean soup is not too sweet and the topping in there are all my favorite! The two biggest mochi are filled with sweet sesame bean paste. The yellow mochi is sweet potato and the purple-grey mochi is the taro. There are also taro chunks, boba and red beans rounding out the soup. It's so good and very filling. My husband says the signature black sugar boba milky shaved ice is the best thing he has ever eaten. Then he added, "Out of the hundred or so weird-ass desserts you've dragged me through, this one is by far the very best." Then he ate the whole thing. (I thought it was okay but then I'm used to Taiwanese shaved ice). The grass jelly looks and tastes the same as you would get at home out of a can so I am skipping that in the future. I am also skipping the egg waffles. The egg puffs they sell in Chinatown are cheaper and more flavorful. These egg waffles had a flat, one dimensional taste to it. I think the batter could be improve by adding a bit of vanilla to it. Or maybe it's the quality of milk in Hawaii? The other desert I love is the soft tofu. I put peanut soup as the topping since that's how I'm used to eating it from Taiwan. My husband did not seem overly enthused by it (I think he was weirded out by there peanuts being the same color as the tofu) but I made that dessert disappear in a flash. Meet Fresh has finally arrived in Hawaii after years of development. I've been to a few Meet Fresh locations in Southern California and Vegas, and this location has the same exact great desserts :). If you are coming here for the first time, skip the drinks and try out some of the dishes (my personal favorite is the Signature Icy Grass Jelly). The drinks (especially the Fresh Milk section) are good, but not what makes this place stand out. If memory serves me right, only one Meet Fresh location is allowed to exist in each city. I'm loving how there's more Asian desserts coming to Hawaii. I grew up on grass jelly and it's much more of a healthy alternative to your typical American desserts. I tried Meet Fresh in Vancouver and in LA so I had high expectations for this location. I didn't have enough time (or stomach space) to actually sit down and try out their desserts so I settled for a drink. I never tried any of their drinks before so I went with my friend's suggestions and got their Herbal Tea w/ Milk and Grass Jelly. I was pleasantly surprised! It was super refreshing and it reminded me of a lighter version of milk tea without the caffeine, or maybe more of a grass jelly milk. I have been wary of these milk teas popping up all over Hawai'i, but we decided to try it because why not and it'spretty new. The inside is a cute little place with some tables. I usually get their Icy Grass Jelly Signature, which comes with taro balls, grass jelly shaved ice, and grass jelly. This is quite big but I actually can eat this thing by myself! I finally got to try it and honestly it was pretty decent. My friend and I shared the icy grass jelly signature.
