I was inspired to check this place out after my fellow Yelper, Heather O., wrote such a glowing review about their lunch buffet. Mehran is located in "Railroad Square", a small strip mall in downtown Pittsburg. There is a private parking lot and spaces are plentiful. The little Miss and I sat down and were almost immediately greeted by the hostess/server. She asked if she could bring us anything to drink and then invited us up to the buffet. Before we could return from the buffet she had already delivered water and fresh, hot naan bread. All the usual suspects were at the buffet including tandori chicken, butter chicken, three varieties of rice, spinach saag, salad with yogurt sauce, vegetable pakora, and a very spicy eggplant dish. I LOVED the eggplant ... definitely a must try if you like spicy!! In addition to all that, they also had goat, lamb, and fish dishes. What I really enjoyed about this buffet is the variety. There is really something for everyone to try. I look forward to bringing my sister here next time she is visiting and looking for an Indian buffet!! read more

Had suggested somethings that was kinda mandatory that I tried. But I still played it safe a bit and kinda stuck with familar foods that I know at first and then ventured out. The fresh Tandoori Bread and Tandoori Chicken were the highlights of the meal. Everything was piping hot and fresh and nothing tasted old. The Chicken Tikka Marsala and Goat Curry was pretty amazing as well paired with the Basmati Rice. Service - The waitress was very nice (sorry forgot her name) she was attentive and made sure our water glasses stayed full and our tandoori bread never ran out. Place was okay. Spacious and neat. SERVICE Okay. Once you walk-in there just go ahead and sit wherever. They will come and give you the menu. FOOD Decent. I've had better at different locations. My favorite was there Naan bread. We ordered the garlic and cheese Naan :) Entrees we ordered were butter chicken, prawn tikka masala, and chicken curry. They were all kind of watered down and bland. Butter chicken wasn't as creamy as I've had it, prawns were big and yummy but the taste was very pasty... Chicken curry was okay not a big fan of it. Mehran is one of my go-to Indian restaurants here in the East Bay. I find myself here more than the other Indian restaurants I like, though, because it is the nearest my house. During Lent when I go vegetarian, I go here every few days or so. The first time I came in, I was a bit apprehensive as it is situated in a sad strip mall and, when I went inside, it was nearly deserted (almost always a bad sign, in my opinion), but the wonderful smells of the spices quieted my misgivings. The older Indian lady (who I think was the proprietress) was very pleasant and welcoming. The food was delicious and my favorites are the main staples such as chicken tikka masala, palak paneer, and tandoori chicken tikka (the daughter's favorite), but I also love their chicken palak, aloo gobi, and this one eggplant dish that is off the menu that the proprietress suggested to me. Their naan is also quite good. The only qualm I have is that they are almost always short-staffed. But I will be coming back to Mehran for my Indian food cravings and vegetarian days. read more

Had lunch here with a colleague. Someone brought us water and naan, while we helped ourselves to the lunch buffet. They have a wide selection of dishes available. I opted for: - Vegetable Samosas: good spices/flavor but the texture was a bit soggy/chewy. I imagine these are difficult to keep nice and crispy on a buffet so these may be better ordered fresh. - Chicken Tikka Masala: the sauce was DELICIOUS, some of the chicken was a bit dry - Chickpea something: good - Eggplant something: VERY good - Rice: just a little bit to help soak up the delicious sauces Seemed like a good deal to me, at $10 each. read more

Food as always is great, buffet is great but knocked a star because when in the restaurant you have to endure nonstop news about trump, so annoying. Food was ready in about 20 minutes, not bad. 1) butter chicken 2) chicken tikka masala 3) saag paneer 4) veggie biryani 5) 2 orders of samosas Uumm, at $8.00 & $9.00 per entree, the portions were terribly small, like less than 1.5 cups each of entree 1, 2, and 3 (as shown in my picture). They gave us a huge box of biryani/rice though, luckily, because we all would have starved tonight!! The naan bread was bombalicious and saved them from a 2-star review!! I'll be honest with you friends. I think I am spoiled by my absolute favorite indian restaurant which shall be unamed during this review. I thought I would pick up some food before heading to moms. So, I ordered one lunch buffet togo. I was shocked at the price. I had to pay over $15 for the lunch buffet. Of course I had to ask why it was priced so high. The cashier said it's because on the weekends they have more offerings. Ok that was fair since she mentioned they had Goat curry. I packed my plate with Chicken Tikka, Gobi, Goat, Paneer, Subji, Rice and Gullab Jammun. Oh yeah I topped it off with some Pakoras too. The food was average and the Goat did not taste good at all. Over cooked, hard to eat. I felt ripped off by paying over $15 for a specialty buffet. Not everyone eats Goat. Why do all customers have to pay a high fee due to 1 specialty item being offered (i.e. Goat). If your a regular goat connoisseur then you know the meat is very skimpy and you get lots of huddi (bones). Anyhow the plus side to my cost of this meal was that it was enough for two people to share. The food tastes way better when they've done it buffet style next door in the reception hall for parties which I've been to. I think I would probably try coming here again during the week at a lower buffet cost since the food was average. They deliver up to 10 miles. $5 for the first 5 miles, $10 for 6-10 miles. I love not having to leave my house. We ordered at 7 pm on a Saturday and the food arrived in exactly 45 as they said. The lady who took my order over the phone was super nice and patient. I called once and had to call back. She was very kind. The food was very good. My only complaint was that they use white meat chicken in their chicken tikka masala instead of dark meat. Because it has to simmer for a long time, the chicken is dry. Lastly, I think they are a little expensive. We order the exact same food from Nann and Curry. Taking the delivery fee into consideration, they are still $20 or so more expensive. read more

Went in today finally after not knowing about this place for years and I live in Pittsburg. Staff was amazing, our waitress Samantha was very attentive and had amazing suggestions for the dishes we ate. We ordered curry butter chicken with naan and lamb Biryani. Both dishes were Ah-mazing!! The flavors were spot on, just enough spice (we asked for medium spice) and the mango lassi topped off my meal. They have a buffet everyday from 11am-3pm daily and I can't wait to go back to try more dishes. This place is a definite MUST GO!! read more

This place is soo awesome, they have so many options. They are at a reasonable price, 30 dollars for 2 people and it's all you can eat. I love the buffet, it is so clean and organized. That's cool though, I'll just set my stuff down at an empty table, no biggie. A woman kindly comes over and asked me my drink order- chai tea and water- they actually have complimentary hot chai provided with your meal! It's pretty bland though so, yeah. Basket of 1 naan cut into quarters is dropped off as well Anyway, the offerings were 3 chicken dishes: tandoori, spinach and tikka masala, 1 curry goat, cabbage and potatoes, peas, potatoes and carrots, and maybe lentils. Pakora, basmati and veggie biriyani were also readily available. When it comes to taste, I was hoping for these other yelp reviews to be accurate- the dishes were just ok; Indian food is top 3 for me so I can tell you that it wasn't as flavorful and pretty much tasted the same across the board. Perfect location for your event with parking, food was decent and price reasonable for what is supposed to be included, price includes service charge and/or grutuity (however you may call it) for entire packagfor what "you're promised" BUT beware of what you actually get. Event was from 3 pm - 11 pm. First guests were there by 3 pm. In my culture, it is traditionally "acceptable" to be late although not appreciated. Yes, there were few guests but I was upset that at 3:45 not even water had been place on tables or offered to guests in attendance. Dinner was to be servered at 4 pm and we were told, they were running behind. By 4:30 I was again upset, water barely being brought out, found out soda is only offered with meal. With 1 1/2 hrs into our event, water barely being brought out to guest. Finally food brought out. Upset with bartender attitude in general. DJ commented had previous negative experience in past. Just as side note, "we" supply the alcoholic beverages and cups. Sure, I can handle that, in fact I like that, but the Mehran's bartender serves it and stage a "tip jar" for "my" guests to donate because they pour it in a cup for them , but wait, I already prepaid a service fee. NO! Don't charge my guest for serving alcohol that I am providing and I have been precharged for your services. Servers started taking table and chair decorations off at 8 pm. I approached them and asked them to stop. Event was til 11 pm and I did not want them to give my guests the impression that "we were cleaning up" and rushing them out. They became upset but walked out. I wished they would have bee that eager to serve water and soda at start of the celebration. At 9 pm servers came in again to start clearing the hall. I again approached them and asked "you don't get it, do you?" By this time, owner had been contacted who had advised that one, the dinner was ready by 4 pm not sure why we were told at 4:30 that "they were running behind" two, to deal with the manager, not the bartender and three, they should not be clearing hall so early. Sounds to me like some people just wanted to get home early. Folks, too many things went wrong. Again, it's a nice venue, parking, all the work is done BUT, I have no faith in their employees, I thought I was trusting the manager, too many contradictory statements. I went for Sunday brunch 3 times. First time was a good experience that made us go 2 more times. The food was decent. They had beef paya which was awesome. They had other items at the brunch like chicken pakora, some eggplant dish very good. Last 2 times I went there, they always were running out food especially paya. Second time we went, we requested for filling the empty buffet tray and they said are bringing more refills at the buffet counter. But they never did. Same thing happened at the third time also.There was older white lady in charge. Who was very annoying at times and service was bad. Almost canceled immediately because I didn't see that it was a 45 to 55 minute wait even though my order was placed near 2 PM I decided to wait because I was really craving some good Indian food. I finally get the notification my food is ready 40 minutes later, drive over there and guess what. They have no record of my order. They had one other order and it wasn't even close to mine. The poor lady I was talking to was very nice but really didn't have any clue as to what to do or how to proceed. After a few minutes I told her not to bother and that I was extremely disappointed. I walked out, called GrubHub who handles the order, they apologized and credited my account right away. Is it possible it's GrubHub's fault for not relaying the order to this restaurant? Absolutely. Have you ever had a problem with this before? Nope not one time. You get one chance to make a first impression and this restaurant sadly failed miserably. I was really excited to have some yummy food, I waited 40 minutes while starving, and this was a really bad way for this to be ended I probably will not go back here again. I absolutely love their restaurant. The food is always fresh and delicious. I also had my engagement reception here last Sunday. The banquet hall is amazing and pretty spacious for a large group. Ron was extremely helpful with noting down all my needs for my event and making sure he met all of them. He in fact went above and beyond just to make it all perfect. Their decorating person Maria is awesome at her job. She's very creative and most of all a very sweet individual. I am definitely coming back to them for all other events.
