I absolutely loved this place when I was on the east coast. I found it initially on Instagram and then looked at all the mouth watering pictures and it certainly lived up to the hype. The wings were presented as being really good so I had to dive in. Spoiler alert, these wings did not disappoint and you can absolutely see/taste why they're held in such high regard. We stopped into Mekelburgs while exploring brooklyn. The vibes were great with the dim lighting and music. Everything was great until we received the check and there were some misunderstandings that management wasn't willing to budge on. For example, we asked for a side of soup but was charged the full price of one after it wasn't made clear that the soup doesn't come as a side. When ordering, be sure you're specific and ask about their pricing if you are wanting a side or extra of something. As for the food, I loved my nachos. The beef chili was great and the sauces on top were amazing. The one note I had was it could have been hotter. Once again I am in the restaurant as I leave a review. First let me say that The ambiance here is so soothing!! Maybe it's my Aries spirit! The red is comforting and I am so calm being here.. As I approached the bar area, Abigail greeted me in such a warm and friendly way..I would come back here just to be greeted again just like that!! Great woman, she knows what's she is doing. I ordered the double butter burger with onion rings and I was very happy with it..My drink was a hibiscus lemonade and it was so refreshing!!Oh and another shot out to Evelyn who brought me my drink. The meatballs were so much breading and so little meat they tasted like matzoh balls. And how do you ruin a tuna melt? It certainly looks impressive -- two hulking halves stacked with a knife through them. But where was the melted cheese? Lots of different items in that melt, creating a sloppy, crumbly but not very flavorful mess. The fries were ok but not salted at all and there was no salt on the table. Best wings I've had!! I saw this spot on a list of places that have the best buffalo wings, and as a lover of wings-I knew I just had to try them here! I could tell from the photos that they were going to be delicious, and I gotta say that they definitely did not disappoint! I got an order of 4 buffalo wings and a side of Cajun curly fries. The wings were SO perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, which I felt just made them the absolute perfect combination! The wings were also very big, so 4 was the perfect amount for one person. I loved them so much though that I'm dreaming about having more! The place itself if very unassuming; the front of it is a marketplace and you have to walk through to get to mekelburgs which is basically just a very casual bar/restaurant. If I hadn't seen photos of the wings, I'm not sure if I would have gravitated towards this place as much. But I'm so glad I did! Service was good and my waitress was very nice. I feel like this could've been an off night but I'd be reluctant to go back to dine. I've stopped into Mekelburg's before to grab babka from the shop but had never dined at the restaurant before. Ordered beers and they took awhile to come. Eventually the food came and we still hadn't gotten our drinks so the server/bartender forgot and we had to ask for them again. Service was friendly but I think spread too thin. The appetizer sample was pretty decent. Wings and mozzarella sticks were yummy and there were plenty of fries. Unfortunately the prochetta sandwich was disappointing.. I found a piece of the butcher's twine in the meat toward the end of the meal. Meat was kinda dry and I felt could use some kind of dip but I did like the amount of meat, cheese and broccoli rabe. Would've said something but was in a rush to get to an event and just wanted to pay and go. Other things on the menu like the babka desserts sounded tasty but I would certainly be hesitant to return. The vibe....OH....MY....GOODNESS!!!! This place is killer! Loved the energy, the decor, the staff, the music and the energy of the patrons. The food....equally on fire! We ordered the jumbo chicken wings with the hot honey sauce, the potato wedges and the hot chicken sandwich. To drink, we both had the Edmunds Oast blackberry and raspberry sour....on tap and CRAZY delicious! Before I forget, we split an order of babka balls - cinnamon babka deep fried and rolled in cinnamon sugar. This was a BAM, BAM, BAM explosion of goodness in my mouth! Our bartender was Josh who was super knowledgeable of the different brews on offer and allowed us to sample before we made our final selection. I am in New York for a quick visit, so I might not make it back before I leave. We nearly bypassed Mekelburg's because it's designed like a grocery store at the entrance. We made our way inside and that's where the good times were. Mekelburg's is speakeasy-ish, (to me at least). The front gives cute organic grocery store. I really didn't expect the cool bar and vibes situation that we ended up getting into once we walked further inside. Servers and bartenders here are super cool and laid back. There was five of us. We were told to seat ourselves. Cool. After finding cozy, corner seats we ordered Frosé's. They were frosty and delish with a nice, lemony twang. I ordered fried mozzarella sticks. They were crispy brown, gooey and sprinkled with shaved mozzarella on top. Tasty. The music was early to mid 00's hip hop and the vibes were just wonderful. On the way out, a very cool young man floated-like literally floated towards us with a cake platter stacked with delicious, house made pastries. Some were sweet and some were savory, a complimentary treat. In my tipsy state, I swiped a pastry that looked like a cheese Danish. It was warm and flaky outside, filled with smooth gouda cheese and topped with thin sliced tomatoes. Those baked goodies were an unexpected treat. Did I just pay $60 for that? It is advertised as a lamb burger. The photo on the menu looks convincingly like it could be a Greek lamb burger. I got what tasted like an unseasoned beef burger slathered with a prior unmentioned spicy red Harissa pesto substance which definitely belongs on no burger! It has a menu that has a little something for everyone but isn't so massive that it's overwhelming. We shared a plate of beef chili nachos and two mimosas. The mimosas were huge and I'm pretty sure the juice was fresh squeezed. It paired beautifully with the massive plate of nachos. This was quite the heavy snack but I wasn't mad at it. We usually grab it from Junior's, where you get a delicious, hearty quart for $9.95. This time, I decided to give Mekelburg's a try. Unfortunately, their soup was a small pint for $17--and to make matters worse, it was incredibly oversalted. I couldn't believe I was paying that much for something I could barely eat. My partner ordered the burger, which arrived without any condiments on it, and there weren't any provided in the bag either. We happened to be out of ketchup at home, so he was stuck eating a plain, dry burger. The total came to $47 with delivery fees, and honestly, for comfort food in NYC, there are so many better options at a much more reasonable price point. This just wasn't worth it. read more

I've been wanting to try Mek's for years. Ever since bumping into owner, Daniel, online. I just rarely get to Brooklyn when I'm in NYC. When my local friend suggested we meet here for lunch, I jumped at it. He suggested I try the potato. I love carbs, I love smoked cod, and I love caviar. I'm glad I took his suggestion, because ordering a baked potato as a meal would not have been an obvious choice. The smoked cod with the crème fraîche and the pops of salty brine from the caviar were so perfect. I thought I loved smoked cod and caviar on bagels, but eating it on a baked potato is even better. Especially because they don't skimp on the caviar. It was piled on. We shared a babka tiramisu after. There were three of us and we couldn't even finish it. It was very large and very rich. Found this spot as I walking by & decided to have dinner. I ordered the makchicken & was a bit disappointed that the chicken was fried in old oil. I took off majority of the skin & ate it. I'm sure it would've been better if it was cooked in cleaner oil. Besides that the fries don't come with any burger so you get that as a side separately. They do give a lot of fries so it's not bad. Crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The meatloaf was well seasoned and the Parmesan to tomato sauce ratio was great. This shop is located on the inside of a convenience store. The store had various drinks and pantry goods. I don't think I saw any fresh groceries. There is an outdoor area to enjoy your meal in and also a bar on the inside. If you sit outside, you can just order indoors and they'll bring it out for you. On the weekdays, there is a combo deal - 2 items for $16. It was well worth it in my opinion. Had to ask busboy and another employee /waiter who came around (to help or maybe just arrived?) for refills and check. This was after so much time, they had never asked about dessert, if we wanted more drinks, etc. Worst part: there were only two of us and they added a 20% auto gratuity!
