I've been coming to Mekelburg's off and on ever since it opened. I've never had anything that I didn't like or love. I still remember their butternut squash soup as the best version I've ever eaten. And I still love the salt-baked potatoes with slab bacon. Their Porchetta sandwich is fabulous as are the Banh Mi, Nana's Meatloaf, and the Provo Wiz Wit. I can't wait to try their Tuna Melt (which my wife tells me is scrumptious) and their Onion Soup (I've been looking for a new favorite version). I've eaten their Chocolate Babka more times than is good for me. Their recently expanded menu has so many things that I want to try! I love the laid-back atmosphere and its proximity to Domino Park (it's right across the street). And now that there's a skating rink across the street, I expect it to be busy all year round. But the thing that sells it to me is the casual atmosphere and the quality of the food, which is anything but casual. read more

We stopped in for dinner. The bartender was new, so he didn't know how to make any of the drinks; we ordered beer instead. Our friend ordered a cocktail and it had at least twice the amount of liquor in it. My fiancé and I split the Big Mek ($24). It was delicious and perfectly cooked to order. I ordered an extra side of sauce to dip the fries into and it was the perfect accompaniment. A good time. read more

The food is really good and I so appreciate all of the vegan options. Love the banh mi. But this spot is wildly overpriced. Wildly. I ordered the banh mi and a cup of soda water and it was $25. This is a good spot to stop by for a quick bite or beer. They don't have table service, but it's pretty quick and easy to order at the bar. They have some really good weekly specials - like $1 Buffalo wings or $5 burgers on Tuesdays. The cod baked potato is also worth trying! What I like about Mekelburg's Domino: Fantastic food. Just like the original location, plenty of choices and all excellent. Some items are available only at this locations, such as the Mekelburger, or the babka poppers, but you will still recognize the delicious dishes they serve at the Clinton Hill locations such as the salt baked potatoes, and various sandwiches. Amazing beer selection. Seriously, one of the best beer selection in Brooklyn, with 19 rotating taps and a dozen or so cans. Plenty of room. This location is more spacious, with a massive room at the back where the bar is. We come here regularly for lunch during the weekend with our one year old, and there is plenty of room for all kids-related items so that you can bring what you need without bothering other customers. There are always families with kids when we come here, so this is definitely a kids-friendly bar/restaurant. Relaxing atmosphere. The TV may be on, but it's on mute. The music may be playing, but at just the right volume. And the place is never crowded, so there isn't much ambient noise, if any at all. And you won't be rushed: everyone here is chill. Proximity to Domino's Park and the water. In the spring/summer this is great, particularly if you have small kids. The park is beautiful, well kept, and has a lot to offer. You can easily spend half a day here, between Mekelburg's and the park. Easy to find parking nearby. We always come here by car, and we've always been able to park within one block. Best cider and beer selection in the area. You come here for a relaxed atmosphere with delightful food and drinks available. The adjoined grocery store also provides selections farbeyond the reach of a normal bar/restaurant. Soups, potato, salad are my go-tos at MD. The bone marrow is a small serving, but very dense. Love it here! Every dish I've had has been consistently really good! The grocery store inside is amazing for kind of expensive but unique items. The best deal is going on Monday wings for $0.25 (only for first four and have to buy a drink) and they are huge and really excellent! Local small deli / specialty grocery in the basement of a larger building by the water. They have a bar in the back which serves some local brews and explicitly bans anyone other than patrons from the restrooms. There's a small set of tables and chairs back there, and some water in a dispenser for all to drink. It does feel very much like a Brooklyn haunt, though, paying quite a bit for a fancy drink or sandwich that isn't branded and touted as better than the chains (not that there are many here in the area). There's a deli upfront that serves some Mek-named food items, and a fair amount of people in line to pay and receive them. Will have to try the food next time instead of just a drink. read more

Best happy hour highballs! Our bartender definitely did not skimp on the gin to my tonic, even at $7 for the cocktail! The atmosphere is really fun. The decor is unique and colorful (wall paper with zebras!) with plants galore. Our bartender was so kind to us as clueless tourists, having only arrived that day and feeling very lost (lol). The food was fine. Definitely not something to write home about. The service was slow for there being few filled tables. It took forever for the server to bring us waters and take our order after initially greeting us. Same with bringing the check. We had to keep waiving them over to our table. They also kept trying to up-sell us which I totally get but it's kind of awkward. The vibe is cool with good music and tvs. We had the meatloaf sandwich and the club. Both were good-but like I said not something I'd insist someone has to try, especially for $20 and $22 respectively. It did the trick for a last minute meal. read more

The best heated outdoor seating option I've been to during COVID! They have enclosed seating with personal heaters set above each table so it's nice and toasty even when we sat out on a chilly day. Came in on a Sunday and wasn't too busy, it seemed like they only had one person working outside so it was a little slow. So on Sundays & Mondays they have a 25 cent wing special, 1 drink for every 4 wings which isn't a bad deal! Tried the Nashville Hot and the Buffalo - Buffalo was great and would get all of that next time, Nashville Hot didn't have any kick but definitely a milder flavor with a hint of sweetness which made it great. The star of everything was the slab bacon baked potato! We're all still thinking how amazingly juicy and smokey the pork belly was and couldn't go wrong with some cheese and carbs. Also got the Porchetta Sandwich which had some nice crispy bites to it still. Just a week after Misi opened, the new Mekelburg's just opened next door, instantly making this quiet area of Williamsburg a true dining destination. It's just like the original location, but huge. They have a limited menu right now until their gas turns on, but take advantage: the usually only late night hot chicken sandwich ($10) is now available here as a special, and it's a must try. Everything they make here is excellent, so definitely try anything. They also have a full coffee bar, a butcher and a grocery store. If you're into beer too, this is the perfect place to stop by for drinks if you have a long wait at Misi or are hanging out at the park across the street. read more

This is the perf spot to pick up some quick items before a picnic at Domino Park (literally across the crosswalk). It's like a supermarket with a coffee shop, a deli, a bar, and restaurant all in one. We came here in the afternoon so they were still offering their brunch items. We ordered the lunch special which includes half soup and half sandwich for ~$12 (we got the tofu banh mi and lentil soup). Off their brunch menu, we ordered the babka popper, babka muffin, and babka french toast (I dont love babka, not at all). My friend thought the sandwich was great but the soup was just meh. The babka popper was def the underdog here. I ordered it just to try but woah, it was SO good. The exterior was super crunchy, and the inside was a perf softened bite of babka from deep frying, all sugar coated, served with a cream cheese style frosting. The french toast was okay but slightly underwhelming, very soaked in liquid and overall tasted more like bread pudding than it did french toast. I've been told multiple times from multiple people that I needed to try Mekelburgs. They were right, and I definitely was not disappointed. The hot chicken sandwich was super juicy. I can't always handle super spicy food but this was good and not too spicy. The chicken itself very flavorful and the pickles were sweet. The meatloaf sandwich is big and can be a fork and knife job! There is a VERY generous amount of ricotta. The meatloaf itself is tasty and not dry at all. Whoever said Mekelburg's has the best sandwiches, I might just have to agree. We also had a couple of lattes from there coffee bar. The baristas were very nice and the latte itself was very good, a good, strong, and smooth espresso flavor. They're currently offering outdoor dining on their side street with table service, they have a few tables out front in Kent st, as well. These tables look like they're for people to have their coffee or maybe have their takeout on? If you want to order takeout you order from the bar in the back and they'll bring it outside to you. I was really hesitant to try this place cuz the owner seemed really aggressive, defensive, and rude in his comments to other people's reviews, but the food here is surprisingly good. I dropped in last minute for the lunch special. There was no one in line and I waited about 15 minutes for my porchetta and potato leek soup. I was really impressed with the quality of the sand which. Outer layers of the pork was crispy and super juicy inside. The soup was also really good. Creamy, but not overwhelming. I also liked that it wasn't super salty. Overall the food was good, but it is very pricy. I don't think I'd pay full price for the sandos, but I'd def come back for the lunch special. They also sell ellenos! My favorite yogurt of all time. I've had such a hard time finding it in NYC read more

I'm generally a fan of both locations of this place, but I had an unacceptable experience today. I ordered a sandwich and a beer for delivery; when the driver arrived he had only the beer. I told him I was missing the sandwich, but he didn't speak English. I don't speak much Spanish, so a clumsy exchange ensued, and he left. When I called the store to try to get it figured out, they told me I should have "translated" with the driver and told him to go back for the sandwich, and that they could do nothing to help. Really? I asked if they could send another driver, and they told me again that I should have sorted it out with the original driver on my own, as though that's my responsibility. I get how something like this could happen, but it still sucks. Mekelburg's, fix your delivery troubleshooting system. This was not a satisfactory experience.
