WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE. (note that this is the first time I've ever written a negative review- I usually like to write positive ones) I happen to love this place usually despite it being overpriced and pretentious. I'm appalled at how they just handled a mess up on their part- waited 45 mins for a very basic order (see pic)- received my take out avocado toast without the $8 salmon I had added- I only realized once I had left and began to feed my hangry child. Went back to tell them my sandwich didn't have salmon and they shrugged and said "sorry. We can't do anything about that since you ate it." 1. I took a photo because I was not near the restaurant when I opened the sandwich. 2. They could have credited me towards my grocery purchase which I was wanting to make. 3. YOU MESSED UP! 4. You are in the service industry- you SHOULD have apologized. ****Note that I spoke to a man and woman at the coffee register. Thanks for the shitty service. Shame that Summer Club turned into just another obnoxious place. read more

I was there last night with some friends and had the waitress make fun of the way my brother spoke (we are not from the U.S), after she delivered us the wrong order (she complained about taking the order, btw). She was being rude since the beginning for no reason at all. The manager defended her and didn't even want to hear from us what actually happened in the first place. While I understand that working with customers is hard (as I did this myself), there's no excuse for the way we were treated last night. I've been reading a lot of bad reviews here about the staff and it couldn't be more true. never going back to this incredibly disrespectful place. read more

The staff is completely unprepared, arrogant and do not know how to deal with customers. The bartender(a girl), which was working on a night shift placed the order wrongly, and after telling her the order was wrong, her answer was "Next time go to Instagram and check our menu". I'm just gonna put it out there that I'm not a beer drinker, but my husband is, and he loves coming here. There's an outstanding beer selection, with an impressive food menu as well. On one of our more recent visits, we came here on a Monday night for their 25 cent wings. The deal is for every large beer you order, you can order a max of 4 wings. Not that I order wings all the time, but I've been pretty disappointed in most of the wings I've had in NY so far. Small. Over fried. Dry chewy meat. Brittle bones that shatter. But Meks has nailed the perfect wing! Offered in 2 flavors (hot chicken and buffalo), these are actually pretty big, juice, and damn crispy which holds up against the sauce. The rest of the grocery store was pretty cool too!  Lots of nice teas, spices and dry pantry goods, nice selection of cheeses and ice creams, and a deli /sandwich counter too! Then there's this massive wall covered in babkas!  The babkas are pretty good and quite chocolatey.  I don't have much of a sweet tooth but my husband does, so this was good for him.   I'm not sure what the Clinton Hill location was like but I liked the community feel at the Dominos location.  There is Wednesday night trivia, and a daytime music series for children, which is kinda nice.   Solid place! read more

There isn't much I could say that I haven't already said about Mekelburg's in the Clinton Hill location review. This place is a little more roomy. They deliver in customer service, solid beer selection, and food. I had their Croque Meksieur. Crispy, crunchy, creamy, salty, and all other kinds of delicious. This hit the spot. I highly recommend it. My lady had the spicy fried chicken and waffles. Her dish was well prepared and tasty, HOWEVER, it can't stand next to that sandwich of mine. I have written privately to Mekelburg Insta Account and 2 emails, no answer at all***. I was served rotten meat at the Clinton Hill location on May 11. the burger was gray and a bit smelly, I did not trust my instinct and kept eating. I got very sick from it - 4 days of food poisoning including fever. Please be more careful with what you serve and respond to client's emails. It's the least you can do. read more

So this is the second time this has happened. I place an order on seamless. It says delivery will be 20-30 minutes. 90 minutes later the food isn't here. I check the app and it says it was delivered 40 minutes ago. We check the door again. Nothing. I call Mekelburg's to check on the order. They say they have no record of my order. I ask them to check again as I'm looking at the receipt saying it was delivered. They repeat they have no record of my order. I call seamless and get a full refund. My go to spot whenever I find myself in Willysburg. Can't go wrong with either the cozy/welcoming indoor seating or the awesome outdoor seating vibes. Love the ever rotating beer taps and the small, but attentive wine program. I'm always fighting my addiction to order the Porchetta Sandwich and to try and mix in some of the other incredible sandos ie Tofu Banh Mi , Hot chicken, and of course the Italian. I love, Love, LOVE Meks. The only thing that keeps me from coming here daily is that is it is a 20+ min walk from my house. First and foremost, we need to talk about the beer selection. They have beers from Suarez family brewing from upstate (one of our faves), among a choice of about 50 other great craft choices. And then there's the food. We must talk about the food. Never have we ever had a bad meal here. Must gets: the BLAST, the pate, the mek and cheese, the hot chicken and the duck bahn mi. Lastly, I love nothing more than have a belly full of delicious food and beer, then strolling around the grocery portion and ogling the first-class cheese counter. I'm a meks lover4life. read more

I've been coming here a lot during Covid because the sandwiches are good and they've kept a to go window the whole time. When I first got back to NYC from my family ranch I was a little worried about being out, so besides delivery I just walked down here and got stuff to go. It's been tight. Plus I can just walk in the park by the water, and that's nice. Then I saw a sign about soft serve. It's just simple stuff, which I like. Most of the other soft serve around is trying to be all weird and exotic to cater to Instagram, I think. I'm not an influencer, so I just want a classic cone. I wonder if the influencers even eat the weird soft serve they photograph. Maybe I should just follow them for when they are done taking pictures and offer to eat the ice cream once it's too melted to continue shooting. But they never get classic vanilla, so, I'll just keep coming here. read more

The menu at mekelburgs was really appealing for my husband and I and we were looking forward to sampling their fare. We were unfortunately very disappointed with the nannas meatloaf sandwich it was completely burned along the bottom and ruined the entire sandwich, it wasn't even like we could remove the burned meat because it was such a small portion. The highlight was the Porchetta Sandwich crispy and salty delicious (personally I would have like more broccoli raab), lentil soup was just ok, to bland for my tastes. I would dine again but probably at the location for quality control since we wound up having to share a sosandwich for lunch read more

Mekelburg food is nothing to rave about but this review is about THE WORST SERVICE I have experienced ever in Williamsburg. EMBARRASSED - then QUESTIONED- then HARASSED BY STAFF in front of my child! My husband and son needed to use the restroom and my husband went to open the door for him. The bathroom has a code and says customers only. We ate at the vegan restaurant that is at the from of Mekelburg in the jointing space. After my husband opened the door the host of Mekelburg(a middle age heavy set woman) had the audacity to run over and question my husband for proof that he was a paying customer. In a snarky voice she said " paying customers only" Upon which my husband said " We ate at the cafe at the front" and provided proof of the digital receipt. The woman then rushed over to question the server at the cafe to question our word -How embarrassing! She then scolded the server at the front cafe for allowing us to use the bathroom saying loudly " now I have a line of people waiting for the bathroom!". The bathroom had NO LINE when my husband walked over to let my son in. Upon him using it a line formed of two woman and then another woman who came from outside. Although I heard her say this I let it go but it made my son very uncomfortable and he was afraid to now use the bathroom. I understand he need to make sure the bathroom is not used by non paying customers but to question our proof? and THEN as we were leaving in a horrible rude and condescending voice she said "Byyyyeee" SO I turned around and told her that her attitude is un called for and she said " what I just said Bye" and I told her how I witnessed and heard her go to the server to question them if we were in-fact paying customers. As a community member of Williamsburg since 2001, booth living and working in Williamsburg, as someone who isnt a transplant but a Native Nyer her behavior is uncalled for. I used to order food from Mekelburg for our house parties, but I will never support such a place anymore who allows the face of their restaurant be lead by a woman like her. You can not treat people based on assumptions with rude behavior. Mekelburg do yourself a favor a hire a new host because I am sure I am not the first family or persons she has spoken this way to. read more

This is a review for their restaurant food: I've tried the following so far (not all at once!)- the mekmuffin, the mek&cheese, the hot mek chicken sandwich, the reg mek chicken sandwich. I would recommend every single one of these dishes. The mekmuffin is THE best breakfast sandwich I've had- there is literally nothing that could be better about it. Light and fluffy brioche, egg frittata, arugula, cheddar thick cut bacon, and a drizzle of sriracha. The mek&cheese is that fancy but familiar comfort food you can never-not want. Noodles are shell and cooked al dente. Not sure what cheeses are used but it all comes together so well. The hot chicken- o.m.g. Late night food in this area of bk isn't as accessible but Mekelburg's has this option from 11 pm to 4 Am on weekends. It is so delicious and exactly what you need after a long night of fun. If you're not into spicy foods I'd go for the non-hot option (mekchicken). You will not be disappointed. At all. *if you're still trying to ride the fun train at 3 AM while eating. Mekelburg's full bar is open as well!! I could review so many more things on Mekelburg's but I'll leave this here for now. You must try these when you're around! read more

A grocery store lunch counter and bar? Yes, yes it is. And it's amazing. Breakfast through late night, the place is great. The MekChicken fried sandwich is the peak of the menu. But the real money is the beer selection. 20 on tap. Lots of small breweries. Great variety. From a lovely German Pilsner to a 13% strawberry stout (I definitely ignored that one). Any who, really under appreciated spot with excellent food, service and brews. read more

I love love love the tofu banh mi. The outside seating is spacious and comfortable for big groups. I've had mixed experiences with staff. Sometimes they are super friendly and accommodating. Other times, a bit gruff, especially if you attempt to use the restroom. (Seem a bit defensive against non-customers using the restroom; thus actual customers get a bit or an unwelcoming vibe). I ordered delivery once, after reading many negative reviews about getting wrong/incomplete orders and experiencing poor customer service to rectify it. I experienced the same thing: missing drinks; when I called the restaurant to report the missing item, they said that I could come to the restaurant and pick it up myself. That negates the purpose of ordering delivery in the first place. They did not offer a refund. Thankfully I was able to dispute the charge via my credit card. My friends have reported negative experiences as customers to the grocery shop. I will visit again for that Tofu Banh Mi. Hope for more of the good experiences with staff than the negative. read more

Went here as couldn't get into freehold. The service is really bad. We had to stand around for a while until someone finally came outside to seat us after walking in and out of the store until someone finally noticed. 3 stars because the Mac n cheese was good. The water tasted awful - and this is nyc so this is hard to mess up. The frose was fine - nothing special. When they delivered the rose they spilled it all over my friend. There are no bathrooms here so even if you drink your alcohol and naturally have to go to the bathroom, you have to go to the public restroom in the park. Overall not going back and not going to recommend it to anyone. read more

Mekelburg's has such a crazy delicious and creative menu. The latke tostada was filled with lox (though could have had some more caviar) and pickled onions. The food was tasty. However the gentleman behind the bar taking orders & clearing tables was clearly disinterested in providing good service. His poor attitude and lack of customer service was enough to scratch this place off our list. For example, I was deciding between the meatloaf sandwich & the smothered breakfast burrito. I asked if the salsa listed as one of the ingredients was spicy. "Yes, but we can do it on the side." Great. The order comes out & I can't eat it because the burrito had spicy green chilies in it which were not listed on the menu!! You would think that would have been good info to pass along to a customer who inquired about the spice level of the dish. When brought to his attention, he seemed bothered & rather than take it off the bill, or offer to get me something else, he muttered a half-assed sorry and walked away. So...with all the places in the area, don't bother. Go somewhere with tasty food & decent service. read more

Come here every so often for overpriced groceries. As a pregnant woman, I have to use the restroom often. Today, I was told that despite buying $40 worth of groceries I was not allowed to use the restroom - that it is only for dine in customers. Not a single person dining in in sight. Hot chicken sandwich was delicious but puny for what they are charging. Ive been to their other location and I thought the sandwich size there was more respectable from what I remember. Fries were terrible. They tasted like they had been either sitting under a heat lamp for days or microwaved. Too dry, barely salted and needed a lot of ketchup to make them taste good.
