We have been a big supports of this of this place from the get home. They owners are very nice and very generous. All of thE coffee people are awesome. Unfortunately the cash register people and a few of the bar tenders are very rude. We had a blonde women with curly hair at the register called us a fag because we asked to speak to a manger about the poor service she was providing. They are a gay friendly establishment and I can can't understand why she would choose to use that that's type of language. I'm sorry to say we won't be shopping there are more until. We shop with stores with celebrate diversity and continue to employee people use those don't use those types of hate speech as it not only hurts out community, you are teaching the kids in the sore that's type of behavior is acceptable. read more

I stand with labor of all kinds, especially in the service industry where it's the norm to be treated horribly by customers, and I sympathize with the plight of working people in service. It can truly be horrible. That said, my experience last night with the Mekelburg's staff was among the most hallucinatory, most hostile, and downright nastiest experiences not just in a restaurant, but of my entire life. The saddest part is I am a regular customer and probably visit the restaurant at least once a week for business or to bring friends. Bartender didn't wish to take our full order and huffed and puffed when asked to input an additional sandwich and a drink, despite never telling them we were finished ordering. She then said that the sandwich would come out later than the others, despite being input a mere 30 seconds after the rest of the food. Same bartender delivered that supposedly problematic sandwich to the table first before the rest of the order, except the order was incorrect. Before we could even clarify that the sandwich was not what we had ordered, the bartender defensively stated in advance that this was the right order and that we should check their Instagram since we didn't order correctly. Then walked away without a conversation about the order. We decided at that point to leave, as the service was so poor and adversarial. Upon entering the bar to get my credit card back, we ran into the bartender, who was already defending herself to her manager, despite us not even complaining or asking to see a manager. We just wanted to leave. After she continued to escalate the situation, the bartender told my immigrant brother-in-law to 'go fuck [himself]' in front of the entire restaurant and proceeded to make fun of his accent as he spoke to her. When my wife responded that she was being ignorant, the bartender said that was impossible because she was first-generation American. My wife had to politely remind her that neither she nor her brother is even from the United States and that this bartender was in fact being ignorant. At this point, the bartender said we were banned from the restaurant, pulled her phone out, got in my wife's face, and started filming us while saying "Smile, bitch, you're going on the internet." Classy. At that point, we promptly left since we obviously weren't dealing with reasonable people, but if Daniel Mekelburg is reading this, he'd be smart to spot-fire everyone working that shift on Tuesday night, as they are prejudicial, rude people with no place in the service industry. This place is an abhorrent obscene price gauging vortex. Absolute pure criminality disguised as a store. Reach for a few items, ring them up at the cashier, then cry about how you're no longer able to send your kid to college literally. All after buying just a pint of ice cream, a coconut water, and a f**king pack of orbit gum. While i frequent the clinton hill location more often, when I'm in the far north, i hit up the kent outpost, too. The meatball sub is divine, the pulled pork sandwich is ridiculous tender, the slab bacon potato is hedonism in, uh, potato shape, and the babka is a taste of home. We typically do take-away so i can't comment on the service in this location, but everyone's friendly and we always get our stuff on time. We love this place. read more

You know when you're at a hotel sitting by the pool and you know the food will be expensive and super mediocre but you're poolside so you're like "screw it," that's exactly what this is but without the pool... Got the club, fell apart in one bite, chicken was dry, oddly had avocado on one half but not the other, claimed heirloom tomatoes but they just weren't and they left behind that green center that you can't really eat... and it was $22! We ordered two sandwiches on a slow day and it took 50 mins. But that could easily just be a mistake where they forgot to run the order which honestly happens... but the food was so meh and really pricy so it was a bummer. read more

If you're in the Domino Park area and feigning for some gastropub then Mekelburg's is for you. They offer a weekly $5 mekelburger special every Tuesday. Yes, you heard that right. $5! The limit is two per order and you must order a drink. I ordered a mekelburger and a basket of fries. The burger was well done yet juicy and satisfying. And the fried onions were a great topper. Be forewarned that the basket of fries is massive; it's large enough for 2-3 people. There's ample indoor and covered outdoor seating on the sidewalk/street. Staff enforces social distancing and Covid prevention regulations by wearing masks and requiring guest to show ID and proof of vaccinations for indoor dining. read more

Nice new addition to the neighborhood so you know I had to try. The Mekelburg people seem very passionate about their food which is always a good sign. This is a hybrid of a coffee shop, deli, bar, and specialty grocery store. It is a spacious layout with a bar and seating area in the back. Very cool place. I ordered the avocado toast and a coffee. Both were very solid. The avocado toast was fresh and had good flavor. Avocado toast alway has the danger of being flavorless. Wasn't the case here. It had radishes on top that added even more freshness to the meal. They have a lot of options here and you can see the staff and owner take pride in what they do. The bar seems like a cool place to check out to. They had a bunch of craft beers on there and although it is not your typical bar it seemed pretty cool. One critique I would make is that it was very cold in there. I sat in the back and I had to keep my jacket on. Let's get that heat on Mekelburgs. Overall, I like what they did here. It seems like a one stop shop for everything you need for breakfast and lunch. Also if you can't run to the grocery story you can pick up a few things here. I will definitely be back. read more

Another awesome meal at Mekelburgs. Ate too much! But it was worth it. I love the duck banh mi. I've gotten it a few times now and the bread is delicious, the duck flavorful, and the toppings add a perfect balance. Finally tried the Buffalo wings this time and they are to die for! Such a thick crunchy exterior with a perfectly moist flavorful interior, and they're very big. I just wish wing night was actually a deal. You have to buy so much beer, its not a good deal unless you were already planning on getting drunk on a Monday. We even scored free donuts because we were there when the cafe was closing up. I didn't think it was possible to improve on the original Mekelbergs, but Daniel and team have done it! Mekelbergs Domino is basically a supersized version of the Clinton Hill location. The place is unmistakably Mekelbergs though. Not just from the merch they sell, or the zebra print bathroom wallpaper. But also their amazing beer selection, their high quality groceries, and of course, the luxurious baked potatoes. Their bar and seating area is way bigger, so bring your friends and family! They don't have a backyard though. They also have a wider selection of groceries (and awesome beers to go!!!), and a full coffee bar. If I didn't live so close to Clinton Hill, I would make it out to the Domino location all the time! read more

So yesterday evening my sister in law and myself were having an disappointing evening due to canceled plans. So we walked around to find a place to grab a burger. And we found this gem of a place just by walking by. We head in and I admit I wasn't sure if I was in the right entrance. It looks like a deli but when you turn to the left a pretty cool bar restaurant was there. The 90's music drew me in. We ordered the Big Mek , & a passion fruit margarita. Everything was delish. And have to shout out our server David . (Inside joke of the night). He was hilarious and attentive . I asked for bbq sauce and he gave me a brand new bottle from the deli portion. Since it's on the way to the Domino Park dog run, I've here 2-3x a week. They have basically everything you need for all times of the day between the cafe window, market, and the restaurant/bar. The only section I'd avoid is the prepared deli sandwiches and sides, which have been rather disappointing. I'm here most frequently for the chai lattes, which is some of the best and spiciest I've had in the city (I've heard they make the concentrate in-house). Inside, they have allllll the gourmet snacks, charcuterie, and chocolates, as well as some not-so-basic (think: Carbone's pasta sauce) pantry staples. Their huge fridge of craft/local beers sticks out as well. I've also enjoyed their chicken wings (although the Nashville hot isn't very hot) and huge breakfast burrito. The porchetta sandwich got a meh from my family for being too greasy. read more

I heard a second location had opened (as expected) so I had to come by for the opening. Unfortunately for us, we arrived very late and the only option to eat was the unbelievably tasty and cooked to perfection chicken sandwich. Two for $21.00 and money well spent! I say unfortunately because I was looking forward to eating as many new items as possible. For all who are familiar with the other location...Williamsburg is lucky enough to have a replica. Only much larger. Which brings the great news that the menu will be enhanced/more options to choose from, and I will be frequenting very often to taste it all. From what we were told the full menu will "hopefully be up by the end of next week". For those not familiar with Mekelburg's. Put this place in your target for your next spot and you will not be disappointed. If you are by any of the menu items please share with me. The bar also has a very interesting looking beer and wine list. Not only did I get to enjoy a quick bite with my lady but I also had the pleasure of meeting the mastermind behind this place. Great service, good food. Just a heads up - they don't give you the 2 burgers for $24 deal that is on their menu. I was charged $32 instead. They also add gratuity without telling you no matter what your group size. I was about to add a $20 tip on top of the $16 they already added for our table of three before I noticed. The burger is just slightly bigger than a slider but it's really good. Just wish it was twice the size. I guess they make up for it with a pound of McDonald's - esque fries on the side. This place has been a saving grace during covid, I am obsessed with their salmon salad, it is sooooo unbelievably good. I normally get the lentil soup with it but then started to realize I don't love the lentil soup (a little bland), I actually love the white fish crostini that comes with it! So instead of the soup I started ordering the white fish tartine. Wouldn't recommend ordering either for a date but damn those two dishes are phenomenal! If you're the only one who has to smell your breath, I say go for it. Or normalize onion breath. The veggie sandwich is also to die for! Huge slab of burrata, pickled veggies and really good bread.
