Totally get why this is a local favorite after stopping by. After a long day of travel, I needed some sustenance and Melba's delivered. Their shrimp po'boy is huge! Like a footlong sub but just packed with shrimp and fixings. Easily made for a great meal plus leftovers, especially when paired with their sides. I went with the fries and cornbread. The fries were nice and crispy, nothing super special, but the cornbread was bomb. Prices are pretty decent too honestly considering how much food you get. There's a bit of seating here but the also do takeout.

Taste: 3 Creativity/Authenticity: 3.5 Atmosphere: 4 Service: 5 Bang for your buck: 3.5 I like that this place is 24hrs but when someone tells you this is the best po boy in town you gotta try it! Was here for the Super Bowl so perfect timing and well it was underwhelming! It was just decent, def not the best, the sandwich itself was well the shrimp wasn't crispy and was soggy, the bread was stale so I just ate the shrimp and lettuce like a salad. Overall not my favorite pi boy but I will be back to try it again! The place was too busy for it to be just ok! Thanks for the experience

This place is BUSY so be ready to stand on line for a bit, but it moves fairly quickly. The food is great! Fun atmosphere too. We took our food to go, but just waiting on the food was entertaining as you people watch.

A friend suggested this place as a stop off for dinner after a late flight in. Great selection. It has a quirky vibe along with modern technology (like kiosk ordering). Nice daiquiris and excellent poboys. As for the specifics on the roast beef poboy, plenty of tasty roast beef, but it could have used more gravy. That's was the only thing I could suggest to improve the sandwich. They have a literacy campaign they highly publicize inside. Nice community involvement there. Now, add the laundromat inside, and you have to admit it's a truly unique business. The dining side has a patio as well as inside seating, so depending on the weather you can make yourself as comfy as you like.

Whoops! Ordered online for pickup and accidentally chose this location instead of the Tulane location so we decided to eat it there. We got a roast beef poboy and a red bean and rice plate with chicken tenders and macaroni and cheese. The roast beef poboy was perfectly sloppy and the red beans were good but had too much rice and needed a healthy dose of hot sauce. It was nice to see the original location, but we'll probably stick with the Tulane location.

This was my first visit to Melba's, and it didn't disappoint. It looks small when you pull up, but it's actually a nice size establishment. They have a kiosk where you can order, or you can go straight to the line and see some of the food available. There is seating in another area of the restaurant. The staff was super friendly, definitely a New Orleans vibe with the family vibe. The restroom is secure, where they buzz you in. It's visually clean, but it did smell like urine. I'm not sure how often during the day it's cleaned. The food looks amazing behind that glass. I ordered the stuffed peppers, and I tell you...it was a reminder of my mom's stuffed peppers. They were so good. I added the collards with that, and they were seasoned just right. It comes with cornbread, which was also good. I'll definitely be sending my husband to pick up dinner real soon

Me & my husband had Melbas after a late night ghost tour, and we came across it and decided to try it out. It was busy, (Late Saturday night) but we didn't mind the wait. I ordered Bourbon chicken on rice with a side of jambalaya. My husband had the ribs with Mac & cheese. They both come with a corn bread. And we had a side order of their hot sausage and tots. We were sooo satisfied with everything! Very filling at a great price point. The place itself has a lot of beautiful character. The flavors of everything was amazinggg! Corn bread was perfect. It just tasted as delicious as it looks! 10/10 recommend!

Melba's has never failed to satisfy my late-night needs, even when I probably shouldn't be considering this a "need" The staff here is always friendly and helpful. I'm not a regular, I sometimes need a little assistance navigating the menu and ordering process. Once inside, you can either check out the menu for options or choose items from a cafeteria-style line. They also have a seating area, but I usually opt for takeout. The food at Melba's definitely gets the FYE! () stamp!

Food was delicious! I ordered online and it was ready when I arrived. The service was excellent! Lots of character and unique venue! First time I've seen tamper proof delivery bags and I like it!

Never did get my food after an hour wait. Slow service and super inefficient service. Food must be good though as people kept filling in.

The ordering experience was a bit gruff and rough around the edges, but from then on, everything went right. First, you can hang out in the bar area at Erin Rose (I swear the crowd was friendlier than they looked) and eat there if there's space. I highly recommend their Paradise Peach, which seems to be from a local brewery. The bright, peach flavor of the lager does well to wash down the sandwich in the summer heat. I went with an order of the Braised Beef Debris Poboy and this is hands down not just the best Poboy I've ever had in my life, but the best beef or steak any sandwich I've ever had in my life! I wolfed it down so quickly and have to say the pickled green bean and banana peppers with that spike of horseradish sauce really sent this Poboy soaring! The braised beef was absolutely perfect and tender, amazingly so! I can get a bit picky about beef because I hate it when it's tough or gristly or has too much fatty parts that won't melt down, but I didn't have a problem with any of that. I'm no butcher, but seemed like they used a good part of the beef of what's already a fairly quality cow (Louisiana Wagyu Beef I recall reading) or maybe it was the whole braising process, but I wish I could have this for days! I'm going to be sad going back to Houston and not being able to eat this, but hopefully it'll still be around and just as amazing next time I'm back in town.

Everything is made from scratch (except the bread, which they source locally), and you really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. My personal favorites are the Surf & Turf and the James Brown. The Surf & Turf gives you get the best of both worlds (shout out to Hannah Montana). Look it up kids. You get the slow-cooked roast beef with gravy plus fresh Gulf shrimp. Shut the front door! The James Brown is just as incredible: juicy BBQ beef, pepper jack cheese, fried shrimp, and a hot sauce mayo. Bring napkins - you'll need them. Pro tip: go with a group and order a few different po'boys to share. You'll want to try everything. You made it to the end, so here we go. I feel like gate keeping (look it up old-timers), but I'm going to be generous because I love y'all. In order to skip the line, go to the bar area and find a high top or seat at the bar. A seat always opens up quickly. It never fails. You can order from the bartender and the service is top notch. Cheers y'all!

It even has its own Yelp page, so you know it's legit. Well, plot twist -- when we got there, the super sweet bartender Jenny broke the news that they had just changed the hours and were no longer open on Thursdays. (Check out my photo for the latest hours as of March 2025 -- you're welcome.) Here's the kicker -- we had already schlepped all the way from the French Quarter on foot and were sitting at around 13,000 steps for the day. We earned that burger! But, when life gives you closed burger joints, you pivot to cocktails -- and Jenny had us covered. Hubbs went for a Bloody Mary (solid choice), and I opted for a vodka soda... okay, maybe three vodka sodas -- but who's counting? The place itself? Total dive bar perfection. A couple of colorful locals popped in for a quick drink, the vibe was laid-back, and the drinks were strong enough to make you forget about the burger heartbreak (at least temporarily). Jenny was a gem -- attentive, funny, and quick with a refill. We were still mourning the loss of those smash burgers when someone at the bar confirmed, "Oh yeah, they are that good." Fantastic. Thanks for that.
