4th of July Special - Firecracker Omelet with Buffalo Homefries
    Ben S.

We have been going to the Point Judith location for a few years, but on our recent 4th of July trip we decided we'd hit up all three Meldgie's locations and this one was by far our least favorite. It was the morning after 4th of July, so maybe that was it. Waitress was rude and not friendly, almost bothered that we were there. My wife got French Toast that was lukewarm and they didn't have the hash brown patties. I got the 4th of July Firecracker Omelet special. The omelet itself was fine enough, but the buffalo home fries were undercooked and just had a bit of buffalo sauce drizzled over the top - completely different than what I'd had over the two days prior. Oh and the cardinal sin of any breakfast diner - having to ask for for a refill on coffee.

I visited this diner located in Bonnet Shores, RI, and was disappointed. Food: The food I ordered, for $7.50, was something I could make better at home. The toast was drenched in butter, which someone else mentioned in another yelp review, the home fries were over seasoned and unevenly cooked (some were burnt some were undercooked), the sausage had no flavor, and the eggs were just average. Service: The waitress never came back to ask how the food was, and didn't ask if we wanted refills after finishing our drinks. Lastly, know that if you go to the diner, the waitress leaves the check on the table and YOU have to bring it up to the cash register. Normally you leave the money on the table but here you have to do everything yourself. Overall: This diner isn't bad for someone who wants a very quick breakfast before hitting the beach (food was served in less than 5 minutes) but I do believe that the same food you order here can be made at home for cheaper & tastier!

Melgie's Melt with home fries. - Not $2 worth of home fries.

Melgie's Melt was pretty good but that was not $2 worth of home fries. To add insult to injury, those were not good home fries. The homemade hash was good, so was the Texas French Toast. My friend ordered a sausage egg and cheese on a bulky roll and the waitress asked him, "and what's your side?" - not explaining that his meal didn't come with a side and costed extra.

My first impression of the room hit me through its espresso scent that filled the entire space. The modern design of the space creates an environment that supports both focused work and relaxed socializing through its streamlined design. The shop maintained a peaceful atmosphere because I was the only customer present which enabled me to study the surroundings at my own pace. The space appeared to be perfectly clean because a staff member was busy cleaning the floor which showed that the establishment maintained cleanliness as a fundamental requirement. The shop maintained a quiet atmosphere which only included the soft sounds of the espresso machine and its periodic loud noises. The staff members delivered fast service while maintaining a friendly attitude. The staff members welcomed me as soon as I entered the building and they explained all menu options to me because I did not know what to order yet they did not attempt to persuade me to choose any specific item. The staff members allowed me to create my own drink which I found to be a useful feature. The staff members permitted me to create my own drink because I needed to follow my specific requirements. I chose to order a large iced mocha latte with an extra espresso shot. The staff members finished my order within three minutes which they executed successfully because most businesses find it difficult to create this level of operational efficiency. The espresso shot produced a rich chocolate flavor which tasted smooth and fresh without any harsh notes. The drink maintained an equal distribution of coffee and chocolate flavors because neither ingredient overpowered the other.

On a Friday morning around 9, there were a few folks waiting for tables/booths. Luckily there's a counter space with about 10 stools and we were able to snag two spots. We were warmly welcomed by the staff. They offered us a lovely couple of bites of cranberry cake, gratis. Everything on the menu looks fantastic. I ordered the famous hash omelet (huge, so, so good) and it comes with your choice of two sides. I apologize for not knowing what all of the options were but I opted for home fries and toast (another choice was baked beans, I remember that one). My wife had the Supreme omelet which came with a meat, peppers, onions, mushrooms and cheese. It was also huge and delicious. While we were sitting at the counter chatting up a local, she mentioned that Oatley's had just won the local Community Choice award. I can see why. One other thing to mention is their bread. I don't know what they offer in particular but a woman came in, asked "how many do you have left" and they said "one". She took it. It was a nice, homemade loaf of raisin bread for about $7. I think she would've bought 5 if she could. I think everyone who likes breakfast would like Oatley's II.

Everything on the menu looked good. I ordered the Vermont burger, with candied bacon, and onion rings on the side, and it was delicious. My husband got a Philly steak Benedict, from the specials menu, and liked it. We also got a side of cornbread which was very good. My mom ordered the chicken and avocado sandwich, which was my second choice off the menu, but I'm glad I didn't order it, it wasn't quite as tasty as the burger IMO. When we left we struggled to move the tables, as my aunt has a walker, and I did feel like the staff should've helped us with that. Other than that, waitservice was fast and friendly.

First look at the menu, you start drooling, so many great options. Since I was with my girlfriend (who has Alpha Gal and is allergic to red meat) I try not to eat red meat when we go out. They were happy to substitute the ham for avocado on my eggs Benedict. The eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly and tasted delicious. The hash browns for me were a little under seasoned. However next to the salt and pepper they had some hot sauce, a little addition of all three of those and the hash browns were great! They have many different coffee flavor options, service was great. While they were busy they let us know that, and apologized for the delays. We were not in a hurry and will be back again the next time we are in the area.
