Ordered a half-pepperoni, half-buffalo pizza online with wings. Went to pick it up and was informed my order was never received. I was told 10-15 mins and I could have my order. After I said okay, I was told a minute later I couldn't have the split pie because they don't split bases, even though the site allows it. In the end, my entire $26 check was refunded. I have to commend the staff. Despite the hiccups, they expressed genuine remorse for the mistake. I'll never ask for a refund, but it was awesome they did. In the end, the girl behind the bar and the gentleman that processed the refund were incredibly nice and helpful. As for the pie: one of the best I've had in Chatty. Wings were solid too. Good, like all Mellow Mushrooms. We had some trouble getting the server to notice us to add something to our order. That was a little rough since we were there with a tired toddler, but eventually we got her to see our waving arms. (In retrospect, I should have just gotten up and walked to the counter, but hey that's hindsight for you.) The pizza itself was great, as was the gigantic salad. We split it with two flavors and got a great suggestion from our server about how to do that given that they were typically done with different bases. We had enough to take home, so we get requests for "pizza breakfast" to this day from a small person who still remembers how good it was. read more

This is a pretty pricey option but the best pizza in town. I really like the salad options here. I have a weekly meeting here for that reason; lots of food, good dressings, healthy and fresh ingredients. I have a few quibbles. The gluten free crust is really substandard, and the pizzas with it with the newer small size are, well, too small. They are a little slow, but the pizzas are good, the calzones better, and they have an ambiance that kids love It's a great place with a big dining room and there's always room. I like it better than the alternatives in town, but it's close. Four stars. read more

Food is great and on par with other mellow mushrooms but this one is poorly run. Plates were dirty with food crumbs and grease...asked for clean plates and we got more plates that were not washed. No forks available either for the salad. I had to wash the plates myself in the restroom. Server was very nice and helpful despite the availability of forks and clean plates. We didn't tell her about the plates and I think she went to kitchen and washed the forks herself so we could eat our salads. Pizza was very good. read more

They have the most delicious fresh tasting pizzas. Every one I have tried is unbelievably delicious. I love the variety they offer. There is a pizza for every palate. The only I haven't been pleased with is their salads ( house salad). The salad looked amazing and had everything in it to desire. But, the lettuce pieces that were used weren't tasty and they were mostly the hard white pieces , and that was disappointing enough to not finish my salad. Otherwise I would recommend going here. I usually don't do reviews for chain restaurants, but this Mellow Mushroom was such a good experience that I needed to say something nice. They have this awesome outdoor seating that's right there on Broad St. Outdoor seating for me a is a big deal so I can bring my fur-baby with me. They are extremely dog friendly! As soon as we're seated, they brought waters out for me, my friend, and my dog. Even throughout the dinner, why'd come with a pitcher to refill my water as well as dog's! Now let's get to the food... We ordered the Hummus as an appetizer and for our entrée, we ordered a Vegan Thai Dye Pizza. We weren't really expecting much when we ordered the Hummus but WTF?!?! It was soooo good! I don't know what they made it with, but it was sooo creamy and delicious! I finished every drop of hummus... no shame! The Thai Dye Pizza traditionally comes with Chicken, but if you ask them to make it vegan, they substitute it with curry tofu, use Daiya Vegan cheese and don't use butter on the pizza crust. Couldn't even tell it was vegan! We devoured the entire pizza! The crust was crispy and flavorful, the ingredients were fresh tasting, and they didn't over do with the Thai chili sauce! YUM!!! I'm actually salivating while writing this review... (Sorry... TMI...) Overall, the experience and the food were great! And no, I don't give 5 stars to everyone! I'm just not a jerk like most people. I have been to four or five different Mellow Mushrooms from NC to Minnesota and they have been hit or miss. This one was on point. Good service, beer deals and delicious pizza. The Mellowterranean pIzza was outstanding and I can't wait to try it again. The place is loud and that was not a shock, that is the atmosphere. On a Saturday night they were busy but not overwhelmed. My wife was offered a refill late, including a drink to go. There is no kids menu and with a toddler that can make it difficult. We will be back but will have a babysitter for that night. read more

My favorite little pizza place in downtown proper! There are a few charming aspects of the place that haven't been discussed at length yet. I won't beat the psychedelic drum again - it comes with the territory of a restaurant and bar with "Baked on the Stone" as their tagline. They have a surprising number beers - not just a half dozen imports and Budweiser, mind you. They have maybe two dozen or so in tap and more in bottle. One thing I enjoyed most was trying out new or local brews. The pizza is pretty tasty. I'm most excited about the option of having breadsticks or baked pretzels, which are prepared with toppings like the sticks, and served with sauce just like them. Some may say it's just a breadstick twisted in a knot, but gosh golly gee, it caught me by surprise the first time and I've enjoyed them more because of the fact ever since. I arrived during "lunch rush," which turned out to be not as crowded as I initially expected. Their estimated cooktimes outlined right on the menu were more or less spot on, give or take a few minutes. We didn't have to wait around for refills anything like that. We may have been lucky, but the service was just fine. When I get back into town, I'll definitely be here again! read more

So I reviewed Mellow Mushroom Waterside a couple of weeks ago and now it's the Downtown location that gets my attention. Again, went for Team Trivia night. Was seated in a secret back room I never knew existed. It was a pretty good size with lots of TVs. Even one GIGANTIC screen. This was obviously not their first rodeo aka trivia night, and they were pretty organized and already had tables separated for teams, big & small. I was forewarned that it can get pretty crowded so I showed up early to grab a table for my team. Luckily that meant I got to partake of the Happy Hour that ends at 7:00 p.m. I ordered a Three Olives Pomegranate & Tonic for $3. It was yummy. Not too sweet, but refreshing and hit the spot, so I quickly ordered another one before the cut off time. Phew...just got in under the clock. I also ordered the pretzel bites appetizer, which really aren't pretzels, but bits of pizza dough with butter and cheese on them and come with a side of sauce for dipping. They were warm and chewy and the sauce was slightly sweet and thick. Very nice little bite. Then I ordered the 1/2 size hummus plate. The hummus was super good, tasted fresh made, and the warm pita bread was the perfect vessel to smear the hummus on. I almost ate the whole thing, but saved a couple pieces for my friend. Lastly, I ordered 2 of the $5 small cheese pizzas. Sometimes you just really need a good cheese pizza. This was tasty, but I could have used a tad more cheese on it. Nonetheless, it fed the three of us with leftovers for later. Our server, Dalton, was great. He checked with us often enough and made sure we were ok. He had to handle a few tables trying to get those Happy Hour orders in and did so with patience. He even made sure to get my 2nd drink in just before the cut-off. The servers who work the trivia nights are great and should be tipped generously. I did notice there was quite the hipster vibe going on in there. Not a bad thing, just an observation. Stopped here for a quick lunch before work, not really knowing what to expect. Quickly pulled up to the bar and ordered a red wine. This was clearly the wrong choice. This is definitely a "beer bar". After studying the menu in hopes to find SOMETHING that is under 3000 calories I decided on the 'build your own salad', a concept I adore! How it works: pick your greens (spinach and spring greens for me), pick your toppings (about 30 to chose from, i decided on olives, artichokes, tomatoes), pick your cheese (feta for me), pick your protein (which i chose grilled chicken), pick your dressing (balsamic vinegar). The salad was VERY generous and it was delicious...except for the chicken. The chicken was fatty, chewy and tasted old. Gross. Surprisingly poor service for sitting at the bar. Maybe they were understaffed (which didn't really seem to be the case)? Or maybe the bartender had it out for us with our bad service and icky chicken. Next time, I would make it a 'cheat day' and order one of their infamous 'pies' or calzones and wash it down with an ice cold Landshark. read more

If you are in downtown Chattanooga and want to avoid the smoke filled sports or club Mellow Mushroom is a great place to get a beer and some pizza. Of all the Mellow Mushrooms I've been to around the South, this one is a little small and less decorated than the others but it is much more bar like than family restaurant like, its bar stretching at least a half a mile (obviously not..but its huge) and the place seats way more drunks than families which is a good strategy for downtown. As always, the pizza is great and they have excellent brews. Also, not every single TV in the place has sports on it, but when they do, sometimes its sports like snooker or racing rather than the traditional sports seen in nearly every restaurant and bar in the region (and I mean nearly every). Mellow Mushroom is always a win. read more

My coworkers and I took a new employee for lunch at Mellow Mushroom in downtown Chatt on 11/19. Monumental mistake. When we sat down we were told our food would be about 30 mins. Ok, no biggie. I calculated the time, we ordered around 12:50pm, factoring that in and some time to eat, everyone should be back in time for their meetings. We waited. And waited. One coworker got a side salad which we all picked at (Shout out to your cheese, black olives and creamy Italian dressing being the only positive experience for our lunch). We began getting restless and another waiter (he had overheard one girl saying it was about time that we needed to just leave) told us that the kitchen staff had burned all the food so everything had to be re-made (Say WHAT!?). At this point, time is dragging on and meeting times are approaching. So finally, waitress comes back out and says right on time, 30 minutes your food will be out. Umm. No. At this time we were approaching a solid hour since we had ordered, NOT thirty minutes. Next comes out the manager who initially gives us an attitude telling us the place had gotten overwhelmingly busy. No...no, we know the real reason. All she offered us was an apology. And it still took forever to get boxes for our food and the slips and credit cards were mixed up. Not to mention, we were offered to go teas which never showed up. This whole experience could have been prevented with the simple truth. TELL US you guys burnt all the food and give us the option to leave or a discount. Instead, people were severely late to meetings, everyone was stressed and flustered oh AND we never even got to eat our lunch. Not to mention, if you have made a mistake, at least own it and don't make people pay full price for food they probably won't even have time to eat until dinner time. The customer service was atrocious. Tourists. If you have the time, maybe this place is your jam. People who work downtown. Don't even try. So here I am, back at work and starving (and with a lighter pocket since we were charged full price) but hey, no shirt off your back eh? Side note. One coworker has since went to eat hers, guess she will be re-cooking it at home since it was undercooked. Also, thanks for helping us leave a great impression on our new employee! I was expecting something great. The atmosphere is awesome, the outdoor and indoor seating options will make everyone happy, it's in a great part of town, their menu is huge and beer selection is great too. I've had a meatball sandwich that I thought was pretty good.... the problem with this place is that their pizza just isn't that great. The crust is flavored pretty well I guess. If you're going here for pizza, you can find 3 other local pizza joints that are much better within 5 miles. Still, the location is right near downtown and the atmosphere of the place is very fun. You won't regret going there, you'll just go home still hankering for some good pizza. read more

It's so mellow, man. I'm pretty sure everyone who worked there had their watches set to 4:20 all the time. Very granola-crunchy lookin' staff with big smiles and surprisingly quick service (well, quicker than I expected considering it's called mellow). The pizza was huge and delish. My friend and I could barely finish the whole thing. Our drinks were about a liter each. The atmosphere was psychadelic chic. The bar offered an array of beers on tap that everyone seemed to enjoy. I am a huge fan of Mellow Mushroom. I have never been let down by the quality of food because every state that I've been to, it's always delicious. Which is to be expected. However, this poor rating is due to the disgusting view I saw today while sitting at the bar waiting for my Togo food. The bartender, who in my opinion as well as my wife's, appeared to be "on something". My noticed how the bartender kept wiping and messing with her nose. When I looked at her in the mirror, she was a finger deep. And kept going from nostril to nostril. I asked for someone else to package my food up and did not want the woman touching my card. I asked to speak to a manager of course. The bartender says, "I'm the manager." I asked for another one. I let the other manager know the situation. I mean what you do on your own time, away from your place of employment is your thing. But when you're working in the food service, that is not something one wants to see. Especially when you're touching peoples food, straws, limes, oranges or whatever it may be. Just totally disappointed and disgusted with that sight. read more

Coming from Atlanta, where there's a Mellow Mushroom in just about every neighborhood, I walked in here with a pretty good idea of what to expect. I wasn't too disappointed. Being a location in a more "touristy" part of downtown Chattanooga, this place is decorated nicely. The service was friendly, but very slow. The food was good and came out pretty quickly, despite the large size of our party (9 people). Unfortunately, the service left something to be desired. Our server didn't check back with us very often. I often sat around waiting for a refill on my drink. In fact, there were some stretches where we wondered if she went on break or something. Pizza and hoagies are good but nothing phenomenal. Staff is pleasant, not overly friendly. Very cool interior with vintage Coke signs everywhere. Great beer specials from local brewers. We went here on July 3 and it was crowded, crazy crowded. The hostess noted that it would be 40-45 minutes, but for me it's worth the wait. We were seated in about 30 minutes. We ordered cheese bread and it was great, the sauce was delicious and it was delivered in great time. For pizza we ordered pepperoni with half mushroom, small. The size was just right and the pizza was fantastic! The crust is my favorite and the sauce will do you right! Our server was great as well, good attitude and very friendly. read more

We are big beer connoisseurs and I knew they would have a great selection for him to choose from including local and seasonal beers. But we can't forget about the PIZZA!! First off, I think the menu for this chain promises a lot. Tons of interesting toppings for your pizza. Also, I'm very happy that they always have a gluten-free crust option. The main problem was in execution. Service was slow and the food was just average. The place didn't seem too busy (steady, but not crowded). After ordering and receiving our apps it took 10 minutes for us to get silverware ... so the apps just sat and cooled while we waited. When we did get silverware it was just a fork, so we waited another 5 minutes for napkins. These are simple things that should take only a minute or less. The GF crust was pretty good and I recommend it. I don't recommend the vegan cheese (we're not vegan but wanted to try it). read more
