I have tried SO hard to love this place. It has a neat/quirky theme, a variety of menu items, and is ALWAYS packed. But the food, and the service isn't great. The food is overpriced, and the service was always meh (I've tried to love this place 5-6 times and left feeling robbed/disappointed each time). Mellow Mushroom. Oh how I love thee! I especially love the chairs in the corner to the right when you first walk in. They allow you to communicate without saying much! If you don't find any other reason to go , you should go check out these chairs ! Lol but no seriously and the art posted on the wall is pretty awesome as well. I always enjoy my food and I always enjoy asking the waitresses weird questions about the art because we all learn something new . Anywhoo back to the food. I am a vegetarian and a pretty mindful one, although I do have days that I just enjoy myself and not care too much about the carbs and the sugars and salts. At mellow mushroom I usually get the strawberry pecan salad and it's always amazing . The balsamic vinaigrette was amazing on it . I have also order thin crust pizza and the regular crust and both were amazing . I had one with tomato and maybe basil? And then I believe I had pineapples one day . Always a great gluten free pizza! I have not had a problem yet. They have a separate pizza oven for gluten free pizza.

This is hands down one of my favorite places is town. I always order the same thing- the red potato pie. As soon as you walk in, it's an experience. You'll not find a fun restaurant like this easily. The staff is super nice and checks on us promptly even if it's busy. Groups, children, and low budget options are avaliable. There's also a beautiful bar, and they are open conveniently late for my dinner schedule. Great place! read more

This restaurant is one of my favorite pizza places. The garlic butter and parmesan pretzels are a great starter. The buffalo chicken and mighty meaty pizzas are fantastic. The chicken pizza is great because it's like eating chicken wings on a Sunday while watching football due to the bleu cheese or ranch dressing swirl on top. The mighty meaty is stuffed with pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, ham and applewood smoked bacon. They also have a vast selection of craft beers on tap and are willing to fill growlers. If you go on the weekend, you may want to arrive early because there will be a wait they're always packed. read more

We love Mellow Mushroom and all of the different pizza choices. We order carryout, and dine in sometimes too. The patio is very nice, and everyone has been pleasant and helpful. They do get very busy on the weekends -- but so do most decent restaurants. Is it gourmet, health food -- nope -- but the salads are as good as the pizza, and there are lots of options to customize your order. This place is a new family hit. The kids were satisfied at the Mac n Cheese here. Cinnamon pretzel bites were a hit. The breakfast pizzas were just that...i wasn't used to it but it's creative. I have heard so much about this place. I was happy to see them on the South Side. It was really cute and service was fine. I had a pizza with whole wheat crust and it was good but not as good as Grimaldi which is nearby or as Apollo on the Midlo Turnpike. Expensive Pizza but good. I went with a group of women and I did appreciate that it had a really large booth that 10 of us could sit in together making it easy to chat and talk. Fun place to go with the group, others might like the pizza more than I did. It was okay but not one of my favorites. Pizza is just such a personal thing. You have to try it to see what you think. Anyone who lives in Midlothian, do not go to Mellow Mushroom anytime soon. I got there around 6pm for dinner with my husband and 1 year old. As soon as we walked in we asked if we could sit outside, because it was nice outside, and my toddler can be a screamer when he's hungry. The hostess said they weren't seating outside and it would be a 25 minute wait. Okay no worries. A family of three walked in right after us, asked the same question and she sat them outside immediately. Then when we finally were sat, they sat us at a booth and said we couldn't have a high chair and handed us a booster with no strap. Uhh hello we have a crazy hungry toddler...he won't sit still in that. So we said we would leave And it was no big deal. They begged us to stay and moved us to a different table with a high chair. We order food and they did warn us it may take a little while as they were backed up for online orders. Again no big deal. Almost 3 hours later and we finally got home with our food! The waiter was apologetic and said the kitchen lost our order..and you know what....I know it's not his fault. I wasn't upset with him. He said they were making them right now...and it would be right out to go, and they'd cover the dinner. Then he came back with a check for the cider and beer that my husband and I had. Two and a half hours of waiting and only one beverage. One screaming toddler who was obviously hungry and now very past his bedtime. They never once offered to get something different for him. And those pizzas that he said was coming right out....took another 25-30 minutes. We asked for them to go obviously. I kid you not....all we ordered were personal size pizzas! When we got home (only 8 minutes away)...they weren't even close to warm. Mellow Mushroom used to be one of my favorite places to go. Stopped in for lunch today around 11am nice looking place. We got seated and order taken promptly. Then we noticed a RAP song on the audio system using the "F" word and a few others in that category. I should have said something to the manager but I didn't, which is unlike me. But hopefully saying it now might do some good. I would not recommend this place for families with children unless they stop playing music with those type of lyrics. I doubt we will be back unless management would like to explain how or why that can happen. I also posted this on there FB page. To bad they have good pizza. Food is always great but the service is incredibly slow. We waited almost 45 minutes before our pizza arrived.

Serious problems here. We arrived about 630 friday evening, expected to wait, wasnt bad at about 20 min. The whole time, the two girls at the counter were bickering at each other about whose job it was to do things. Note to manager: might be time for some adult supervision. When we got to the table, it didnt look particularly clean. Not dirty, but not wiped off either. 10 min later the waiter brings food to the adjacent table, i hear the man ask about the salads, and then mumble something about "an hour". Waiter turns to us and says "need to let you know it will be at least 45 min for the pizza". Wow. Now it makes sense what the other guy said. Kudos to the waiter for speaking up and letting us know in advance. We left. We asked him why the bitchy girls at the desk didnt tell us, of course he didnt know, but said he would mention it to them. Like thats going to do any good. We went to Blaze pizza. Atmosphere wasnt nearly as good, but the pizza was good and the wait was quite reasonable. To the manager: MM is a pizza restaurant, you need to learn how to serve pizza. You should be thankful people line up to eat there. But if you cant hire pleasant staff and learn to deliver pizza in a reasonable time, youre going to have a different problem. Maybe you should concentrate on walk-in customers, and tell the grubhubs it will be an hour. read more

I have eaten at the Mellow mushroom in Carytown multiple times and have always had a positive experience; however, my first experience with this location anything but positive. I ordered my usual: a vegan thai dye pizza, and what I got was basically crust smothered in daiya cheese and the occasional tomato. No sauce or other vegetables whatsoever. Also, the person on the phone seemed to have no idea what a thai dye pizza even was. Will NOT be ordering here again. read more

Wasn't sure what to expect seeing that the reviews are so mixed. The wait was 30 minutes, which isn't bad for a Friday night. We got two small pizza's, and both were excellent. Mine was the one loaded with meat and my wife got the one with mushrooms. Our server Ray, did a nice job of explaining our options and giving recommendations. This is a great pizza chain. This one seems a lot less crowded than the ones in Cary Town and Short Pump. We've been there twice. Our server was excellent the first time and the kids loved the French bread pizza on the kids' menu. Our server was good the second time and again, the kids were pleased with their selections. This time, pretzel dippers and a burger. I really enjoyed the mushroom and buffalo chicken pizza. My husband ordered a more traditional pizza and also liked it. Please know that the crust here is thinner than most. So if you order the thin, it's akin to St. Louis's thin cracker crust, while the thick crust is what you'd expect on a regular pizza. At 3 stars I'm probably being generous. You can tell they put tons of money into the buildout. The decor is quality material. There are also some misses. The layout with the room to the right feels like a long corridor afterthought. The waiting area if more like a single bench in the flow of traffic. If you are standing waiting you are in everyone's way - people coming in and a 3 way intersection of patrons and waitstaff. The bench for waiting is nice but they need to secure it. When you sit down it feels and sounds like it's falling apart. I've been here 6 times - half for take out. The staffing level is high but they are all very young and the workflow is horrendous. It seems like there is little organization. I've had my take out order messed up twice and each of my 6 times the wait has been bad to terrible. When my order was messed up management took care of it. The food is pretty good but they need to work on consistency. If they worked out the kinks it would be a pretty good place. The wings and hoagies are very good. The bread and pizza crust is also really good. read more

Then a father and son show up and get told they have a table, and a couple shows up and gets a table. I understand I already ordered my food togo, but that shouldn't keep me from getting a table.
