I've been wanting to try this kitschy, flower power, vibe restaurant (glass beaded curtains anyone?) for awhile and yesterday we were in town to visit my son who's at W&M, so we popped in. They offered outdoor seating, and while the heaters were wonderful, there was too much chill in the air so maybe next time. The service was great! Hosts at the door were friendly and funny and we got seated quickly. Our server was great! I can't remember her name but she bears a resemblance to Miley Cyrus so, Miley, you rocked. She made good suggestions and gave us info since we were first timers. Onto the food. We had a Cobb salad, a small Great White, and a small personalized pizza. We also ordered pretzel bites ,which were were extremely delicious and filling! We got beer cheese. I liked it - we all did. The salad is huge. If you want a nice dinner salad, I doubt you can go wrong with any of their salad choices. You won't want anything else! The pizzas were amazing. It's so hard to find a good white pizza. Theirs is great, with fresh garlic and olive oil, tomatoes, and pepper dews. And of course loads of ricotta and mozzarella cheese. It tasted like Saturday night at your Italian grandmas house. The other pizza we got had thick pepperoni, red sauce, mozzarella, and feta. The best part of both pizzas was the crust. Crispy, crunchy, and chewy. The pizza bites were so good, too. We needed a place to have dinner that was air conditioned, did not require a reservation, was reasonably priced, and not too far from our exploration around Colonial Williamsburg. We were seated promptly and the server was friendly. I got their Holy Shiitake and my husband built his own. We also got some classic hot wings. Food was hot and everything was really good. Ordered a large pepperoni and wings, this is what was delivered burnt wings and a clearly vegetarian pizza, about as from pepperoni as possible. Should have just called dominos or flushed the $43 bucks down the toilet. Called to tell them that they sent the wrong pizza, they blamed Grubhub, put my wife on hold and never picked up again. This place deserves a zero, they clearly do not understand anything about customer service. Everyone makes mistakes, decent human beings, and decent business people own up to their mistakes and offer an apology, even if they don't mean it. I would avoid this place at all costs. Update: I was notified via Yelp by the owner that he would issue a refund, which is much appreciated. Hopefully, his staff will check the orders better next time before they are delivered. read more

I went to mellow mushroom and had a horrible experience I got the text saying my table was ready and walked up to the host stand. When I got there the host was fully ignoring me and my party and helping other people. I kept trying to get her attention but she was not responding. Table of 8 on busy holiday, so we knew we needed to be chill. No problem waiting 40 minutes for a table - this is an annual tradition. Appetizers arrived at table with out plates or utensils - those came 12-15 minutes later after we asked twice, dip was cold. Food runners kept bringing food to our table that wasn't ours. Forgotten chicken for chicken Greek salad arrived 30 minutes after the salad arrived and server was asked 2x about it and then walked to front to alert manager once after that. Requested drinks, pepper and other things multiple times before they arrived. Attempting to pay we waited 10 minute for server, gave up and took to front where I was told I need to go find the server, they couldn't ring us up in the front. I was very weary about what to put because it really didn't start out well due to some confusion over seating and a little rude-ness was felt from staff that lightened towards the end, but still not a great way to start. We were excited to try Mellow here in Williamsburg since we've never been to this location. We've enjoyed the other locations we've been to. We were sat down immediately, however, after about 10 minutes we had to walk up to the host to ask for our server; no one had came to us. Disclaimer: we were sitting right in front of the bar and several servers passed us but did not come to our table. We asked to move to another area if it was going to take much longer since the bar area was a bit too loud. After moving to another section in the back, our server went ahead and took our order. When I checked in, Yelp gave us a free pretzel bite appetizer. This made us super happy and the spicy beer cheese was delicious! Hubby ordered a mushroom soup, wedge salad, and a small holy shittake pizza. I ordered a small sausage and mushroom pizza. Everything was good. A great marriage of psychedelic and Italian... what a trip! The pizza at Mellow Mushroom is surprisingly awesome! I ordered the "HOLY SHIITAKE PIE" and holy shiitake was the flavor yummy! There were three types of mushrooms on this pizza, drizzled with truffle oil and a garlic aioli sauce. I am very critical when it comes to pizza and this was one of the best pizzas I have ever had. When I ask if a restaurant has coffee and the response is "yes, but only one cup; no refills," I automatically check it off my list. But I'm here for a meeting, so I make an exception. Sadly, what I got was a little more than half a cup. At least it was decent, though nothing about which to write home. But I will NOT be ordering it again: $2.49 for a light cup is ridiculous. At least the water was free. The decor is some kind of late-80s industrial chic- lots of brick facing and iron pipes, so the noise is just incredible. It reminds me of my misspent youth, though, so I can't complain too much. My Darling Bride and I opted to split a medium pie. The menu is full of cutesy, faux hippie names - their Hawaiian pizza is the Maui Wowie, and they have a "Magic Mushroom Soup" (which is made with Muggle mushrooms, sadly) - but the descriptions of the dishes sound fantastic. We got a Pacific Rim, which is a red sauce with mozzarella, ham, pineapple, applewood smoked bacon, and jalapeño peppers. They have some salty stuff sprinkled around the crust, which I could do without because although it was a delicious pie, it was saltier than my ex. A medium pizza has six slices; we ate two each and will take the others home to assuage the hunger of our 15 year old, who is undoubtedly starving all over again. I'm really looking forward to trying the Holy Shiitake pie, which has about half a dozen types of mushrooms AND truffles, too. Supper- a medium pizza and a coffee- came to $25.18, including tax. Stopped in Friday 4/29 after a morning of taking pictures around Colonial Williamsburg. Took a seat at the bar and was greeted quickly by Jonathan who brought drink and food menus. Ordered a diet Coke with lemon, and the Elevated Cobb Salad. Jonathan brought the drink and put in the salad order....nice guy... personable and friendly. The salad came in short order, and it was presented nicely. The sliced Roma tomatoes were a nice touch, and most pleasing was the sliced avocado. Most Cobb salads are served with hard boiled egg, but the avocado was a welcome change, and it was just right...not too firm, not mushy, tasty as can be. Jonathan checked on me a couple of times (ever notice how servers always ask how things are when you have a mouthful of food?), and things were great. As with the other location of Mellow Mushroom that I visited, everything I consume there is phenomenal. This location is nestled into Colonial Williamsburg and William & Mary like it is meant to be there forever- and it's right across the corridor from Precarious Beer Project and that is just a great combo. I ordered a Regular Caesar Salad as an appetizer and the star of the show was the croutons. They are seasoned perfectly and just generally great tasting and crisp. We ordered the Kosmic Karma pizza and it was absolutely delectable. The topics were well spread out and the crust was seasoned the same as the croutons and was just perfect. I stayed in Williamsburg for a convention with friends and because I am vegan, my options were small for finding a place to eat. Mellow Mushroom does amazing vegan pizza so we went there twice. The first day was perfect, quick service and amazing pizza. The second day was a disaster. It was a Saturday so I understand that they were really busy. After a 40/45 min wait (there were 10 of us), we were taken to a table. We chose our food and placed the order. I had a glass of wine while I waited. We waited over an hour to get our food, my pizza came out cold, and they forgot a topping! I was not impressed at all. Tge manager came out doing his rounds so I told him. Thankfully, he gave me my pizza for free, and took 20% off everyone else's bills. I will never eat there on a Saturday again. read more

First, you have to eat here and second, you have to order the Holy Shiitake! It's one of the best pizza I have ever had (Italy included) and the best mushroom pizza. The garlic sauce, the spongy mushroom, and the aoli combination is perfect. I even had a slice the day after and it was still good. I also tried a bite of the cheese pizza from my 4 years old and it was also delicious. The quality of the cheese they use must be really good. The pretzel bites are really fun, great for kids, and the beer cheese dip can be use for the pizza crust as well! My father and I came here for lunch, we were looking for a good restaurant to eat at with my dog, Bailey. Mike was our waiter and he was so helpful and friendly! The blonde bartender was rude! We had order to go food and decide to sit at the bar while we waited. As soon as we sat, she didn't even greet us she proceeded with "did you guys order to go food? If so, can I move you to sit on the couches." Mind you, her bar was not busy at all and had many seats available. One of the worst experiences I've had at a mellow mushroom! Ordered two appetizers, only got one the other never showed. Ordered two small pizzas and two salads for a party of four, pizza came out long before the salad leaving two of us without anything to eat, the one appetizers that we did get came out last! Had to flag down the waitress to beg for a refill on drinks because we were never asked even though our glasses were empty (it took over 40 to get the pizzas and of course longer for the salads and appetizers). It was busy as it was a Saturday but there seemed to be plenty of staff but our waitress was only one running around like a chicken with her head cut off. The cloud nine wings were cooked perfectly. The bruschetta is outstanding, and the meatballs trio appetizer is delectable. Our waiter/bartender, James, was on spot; what a hard worker, and he pours a perfect Guinness! When I ate the pizza the dough was slightly tough. I would get the buffalo chicken pizza for something different and less greasy.
