Stopped in Friday 4/29 after a morning of taking pictures around Colonial Williamsburg. Took a seat at the bar and was greeted quickly by Jonathan who brought drink and food menus. Ordered a diet Coke with lemon, and the Elevated Cobb Salad. Jonathan brought the drink and put in the salad order....nice guy... personable and friendly. The salad came in short order, and it was presented nicely. The sliced Roma tomatoes were a nice touch, and most pleasing was the sliced avocado. Most Cobb salads are served with hard boiled egg, but the avocado was a welcome change, and it was just right...not too firm, not mushy, tasty as can be. Jonathan checked on me a couple of times (ever notice how servers always ask how things are when you have a mouthful of food?), and things were great. I was very weary about what to put because it really didn't start out well due to some confusion over seating and a little rude-ness was felt from staff that lightened towards the end, but still not a great way to start. What drew us to the place was the great outdoor seating in a super convenient location. I stayed in Williamsburg for a convention with friends and because I am vegan, my options were small for finding a place to eat. Mellow Mushroom does amazing vegan pizza so we went there twice. The first day was perfect, quick service and amazing pizza. The second day was a disaster. It was a Saturday so I understand that they were really busy. After a 40/45 min wait (there were 10 of us), we were taken to a table. We chose our food and placed the order. I had a glass of wine while I waited. We waited over an hour to get our food, my pizza came out cold, and they forgot a topping! I was not impressed at all. Tge manager came out doing his rounds so I told him. Thankfully, he gave me my pizza for free, and took 20% off everyone else's bills. I will never eat there on a Saturday again. read more

Mellow mushroom has a really good vibe! I tried the Kosmic Karma pizza which was super delicious, paired it which a peach iced tea which was just the perfect amount of sweetness I needed. They also have a lot of other options and have free refills for a few sodas. The staff was also very kind. Overall this place was a hit for me. When I ask if a restaurant has coffee and the response is "yes, but only one cup; no refills," I automatically check it off my list. But I'm here for a meeting, so I make an exception. Sadly, what I got was a little more than half a cup. At least it was decent, though nothing about which to write home. But I will NOT be ordering it again: $2.49 for a light cup is ridiculous. At least the water was free. The decor is some kind of late-80s industrial chic- lots of brick facing and iron pipes, so the noise is just incredible. It reminds me of my misspent youth, though, so I can't complain too much. My Darling Bride and I opted to split a medium pie. The menu is full of cutesy, faux hippie names - their Hawaiian pizza is the Maui Wowie, and they have a "Magic Mushroom Soup" (which is made with Muggle mushrooms, sadly) - but the descriptions of the dishes sound fantastic. We got a Pacific Rim, which is a red sauce with mozzarella, ham, pineapple, applewood smoked bacon, and jalapeño peppers. They have some salty stuff sprinkled around the crust, which I could do without because although it was a delicious pie, it was saltier than my ex. A medium pizza has six slices; we ate two each and will take the others home to assuage the hunger of our 15 year old, who is undoubtedly starving all over again. I'm really looking forward to trying the Holy Shiitake pie, which has about half a dozen types of mushrooms AND truffles, too. Supper- a medium pizza and a coffee- came to $25.18, including tax. As with the other location of Mellow Mushroom that I visited, everything I consume there is phenomenal. This location is nestled into Colonial Williamsburg and William & Mary like it is meant to be there forever- and it's right across the corridor from Precarious Beer Project and that is just a great combo. I ordered a Regular Caesar Salad as an appetizer and the star of the show was the croutons. They are seasoned perfectly and just generally great tasting and crisp. We ordered the Kosmic Karma pizza and it was absolutely delectable. The topics were well spread out and the crust was seasoned the same as the croutons and was just perfect. Basically Mellow Mushroom is an amazing chain and you can't go wrong there. read more

First, you have to eat here and second, you have to order the Holy Shiitake! It's one of the best pizza I have ever had (Italy included) and the best mushroom pizza. The garlic sauce, the spongy mushroom, and the aoli combination is perfect. I even had a slice the day after and it was still good. I also tried a bite of the cheese pizza from my 4 years old and it was also delicious. The quality of the cheese they use must be really good. The pretzel bites are really fun, great for kids, and the beer cheese dip can be use for the pizza crust as well! The menu proclaims that its "smothered in garlic butter" of which it is neither buttery or garlicy leaving frankly a lackluster piece of bread with a thin layer of cheese. One of the worst experiences I've had at a mellow mushroom! Ordered two appetizers, only got one the other never showed. Ordered two small pizzas and two salads for a party of four, pizza came out long before the salad leaving two of us without anything to eat, the one appetizers that we did get came out last! Had to flag down the waitress to beg for a refill on drinks because we were never asked even though our glasses were empty (it took over 40 to get the pizzas and of course longer for the salads and appetizers). It was busy as it was a Saturday but there seemed to be plenty of staff but our waitress was only one running around like a chicken with her head cut off. My father and I came here for lunch, we were looking for a good restaurant to eat at with my dog, Bailey. Mike was our waiter and he was so helpful and friendly! He made sure that Bailey had water as soon as we sat down and that our food was fresh and brought out in a timely manner. The hamburger was cooked perfectly! All the food was fresh out of the oven! This was absolutely one of the best pizzas we've had! We ordered the House Special and it was so terrific, we ended up eating ALL of it...which we usually don't do. There weren't many people ahead of us but we were told that since there were 6 of us (4 adults and 2 young children) it would take long to find a table. 6 doesn't seem like a big number to me but apparently I was wrong. Food arrived a good 30-40 minutes after ordered was placed and our hostess accidentally wrote down the wrong size of pizza so we had to place an additional order and unfortunately that item arrived almost 30 minutes after order was placed. Sadly, my kids were starving and getting impatient and all of us were just surprised that everything took so much longer than it should. We spent almost 3 hours from the time we entered the restaurant to the time we left. Maybe there's a staff shortage or cook shortage-not sure? Went for my little niece's bday so it was kind of a big party. We ordered wings, the spinach artichoke dip, and a few large pizzas. The wings were cold but we were so hungry that we couldn't return an empty plate. Pizzas were great (as always) and the spinach dip was good too. But I am thrown off by the service. We went here for lunch today, and it was AMAZING. Food was great, waitress was great, and prices were very reasonable for something smack in the center of a tourist town. My son had the pizza, my wife had a calzone (big enough for two meals), and I had the avacado sandwich. This is definitely a gem which is, literally, right across the street from Colonial Williamsburg. The only caution I would give is that it is a happening (i.e. fun) place. Music is playing fairly loud, the place is buzzing, etc...even at lunch time on a weekday. So, if you are looking for something quiet and sedate that is in tune with Colonial Williamsburg, maybe this isn't the place for you. However, the food and the people really are fantastic. read more

We went at lunchtime, on the busiest day of the month (second Sunday), so there was a wait, but they were honest about how long it would take, and there are places to sit, so it was fine. The restaurant was very clean, and people were seated with a table between them, so it felt a bit safer. I do wish the chairs were more comfortable. Our server, Autumn, was really good, but everyone working there seemed excellent, too. No one walked past a table that needed clearing, or something dropped on the floor. Service was efficient, but friendly, and Autumn was great about answering questions about the menu. Glasses were never empty. We ordered a Greek salad and a thin crust pizza with modifications. The salad came out quickly, and was nicely composed. I appreciated that the vegetables were sliced consistently (on a mandoline?) so it was pleasant to eat. All the vegetables were fresh and crispy, and the Esperanza dressing was delicious. The large was perfect for two adults. We also got a medium pizza, which was topped generously with high quality meats and vegetables. It was perfectly balanced. I wasn't crazy about the crust. It's a bit sweet. The dough would make a good dinner roll, but it wasn't a great pizza crust. We'll try the subs and burgers next time, but we'll definitely be going back. read more
