I usually stay away from croissants because I don't like the mess they leave behind while trying to eat them, however the croissant held together until I finished eating it. Went for coffee stayed, for the exorcism. Even though the coffee beans were flatlined and had zero freshness we didn't make a fuss about it. We did ask to have our cappuccino "for here" but received them in a paper cup.. Not sure if that was standard or not, having said that, we have to say we dug this place and the goth vibe is cool and a must visit for out of town folks for sure. Maybe it was the 30,000 steps I had just taken but the sandwich was mighty fine and the drink was my favorite coffee drink I've had while staying here. Blueberry, lavender, and white chocolate with coffee wasn't the combination I knew I needed, glad I tried it. It's all vegan so if milk brings your stomach despair and torture, no worries. It had been on my list to try, and I'm so glad I finally did. Despite the unique décor, it turned out to be the perfect meeting spot--they have a back room with a large table that worked beautifully for the four of us. Everyone enjoyed their drinks, which all had fun, creative names. The guy behind the counter was so nice. I think he loved my enthusiasm for everything. Visiting from San Diego and we were looking for unique coffee shops. Definitely hit the spot with Memento Mori, which is my favorite Latin phrase. Of course it has a goth vibe to it, lots of art and decor that matches the theme. They also have stuff for sale like local art and 3-D printed decorations. Big menu with lots of options. We ordered the Anima Nera (licorice latte) and a Weeping Willow (strawberry matcha). Both of our drinks were really good, yes I am a fan of black licorice. The employee that helped us out was kind and patient with us choosing our drinks. Location is pretty big with lots of room for seating inside and out. Parking might be a challenge. read more

This little corner café was adorable! I loved the dark academia vibe, and the menu names to match! They had local artwork available for purchase, and so many cute displays! Staff were great, explanatory when I had questions, and our drinks came out fast and looked fabulous! My only issue was that when I ordered an ube matcha, I'm also certain it was taro. I've been to Memento Mori 3 times now. The first time was shortly after they opened, there was a sign that they were sold out. Next time was during World Vegan Month. I got the Upside Down Chai Latte and it was good. The Breakfast Bagel sandwich was super tasty! So today, I found myself nearby, on a job. I decided to stop for food and beverage. Paid street parking can be tricky. I lucked out that the spot I found wasn't very far. Last time I visited was on a weekend, and no seating inside, but it was nice outside and we got a table outside. Today, a Wednesday I sat inside. I ordered an iced tea, went with the recommendation of Veil of Verbena. It was refreshing. I got the Grim Reaper breakfast sandwich, it was good, but next time I would revisit the Bagel sandwich. After I finished the sandwich, I decided to try a couple baked goods. I got the Bavarian cream Danish and ate it in the shop. It was yummy! I got a horchata skull cake to enjoy for later. I took my Kindle to read, the spot I found wasn't that comfortable. I didn't see till I was leaving that there was a side room with a comfy couch and board games. Good to know for future visits! I loved the macabre decor of Memento Mori. We paid a visit during spooky season and this place did not disappoint. We ordered seasonal beverages: Calavera Sucia Chai and Camazotx Elixir de Vida. Both were divine! We had to grab a skull, the flavor was Horror-chata pumpkin. Absolutely delicious...I wish we ordered two! We also snagged an order of Santa de Muerta Mourning Toast, an avocado toast with elotes. We stopped by Memento Mori Café in October and ended up really enjoying it. I tried the Santa Muerte avocado toast, and honestly, the aioli was what tied it all together, it was super flavorful and set a precedent for avocado toast since. My partner got the Grim Reaper, which he liked overall. We both went for blended drinks he got a caramel-based, mine was chocolate-based. They were tasty, definitely indulgent, but very sugary. That one's partly on us for going for the seasonal sweet bombs, but still worth noting. My only real complaint: the price. For two blended drinks and our meals, the total landed close to $50, which felt steep for what we got. I'm all for supporting small businesses, but the cost caught me off guard. That said, the café itself was spotless, the aesthetic was awesome, the service was friendly and quick, and the food was genuinely good. With slightly more reasonable pricing, it'd be an easy five stars. Solid four out of five. read more

There's only street parking and you have to pay all days except Sundays. *Seating* There are a few tables for 2 and a few tables for 4 outside. As you might expect, they're all black. The inside has seating as well. *Ambiance* OMGGGG there aren't even words to describe all the thought that went into every detail. From the music to the bathroom to the menu to the water container to the art to the condiment bar and the list goes on, everything is 110% on theme. *Food and Drink* Everything on the menu is vegan and has a spookicool name. I ordered the Grave Digger gothaccino with whip and the enchanted pig breakfast bagel sandwich. David got the el cucuy, which was appropriate since he grew up in Spain being threatened that he would be eaten by that monster if he was naughty haha. They also have skull shaped cakes in 2 flavors but I didn't get one. Everything I had was delicious. My only complaint is that my gothaccino was already separated when I picked it up from the bar. My friend found this Vegan cafe on Instagram & we made it our mission to stop by while passing through Portland. It is a whole vibe, unlike any other coffee shop we have been to. Their menu is unique with plenty of drink varieties & their base milk is oat (love that). We ordered a Crypt Keeper, a Werewolf & a Zinnia - all so delicious! I opted for a Strawberry Danish & my friend got a Pumpkin Skull Muffin & Santa Muerte. We devoured everything! Who doesn't love a spooky vegan coffee house? Memento Mori Cafe is located in a quiet area of NW, easily walkable from the bustling NW 23rd. It was nearly lunch time as I ordered an americano and an $8 slice of bread. Any place with a non dairy creamer option is alright in my book. The Maple Miso Butterscotch bread truly hit the spot. More savory than expected, the $8 slice was filling and worth every penny. Loved it! Great vibe, fun art, nice employees. This cafe has a very unique concept. Coffee but make it GOTH! The exterior of the building is gloomy, sharp, and gothic. There is patio seating outside. When walking in, I was immediately greeted by the staff. It has a morose, enigmatic, and dreary feel to it. The vibes are immaculate! You truly step into an another world. I was immediately drawn to it. Right at the entrance, the left hand said has a room for lounging and the right has some more tables and chairs. There is a nice little gallery hallway with picture frames. There were several people in both areas, enjoying their drinks. Quite a few more people came in after we did. At the counter, there is a beautifully decorate vine bar with pastries like skull cakes and other pastries. I unfortunately was not able to try the skull cake :( but the chai macaroon and the brownie was heavenly. The conchas look like spiderwebs! The menu is laminated. Very diverse and big menu, there is something for everyone! They also have gluten free pastries! I had a hard time deciding, since everything looked good! I asked the barista what matcha he recommended. He suggested the Ishtar, which is the pistachio matcha. Price was fair, $6.75 for a small. I took a look around the cafe. They have incense, candles, and trinkets for sale. They have a bench with the skull for pictures. Before long, my drink was ready! I took a sip. The drink was very flavorful and tasty! Very unique. I love it! I was able to try their quiet room drink and mushroom coffee as well. Very tangy and unique. We went into the lounge room to enjoy our drinks. There are board games and a projector. This place is so good that we went twice in one week with our out of town guests. This is a super cozy bakery with the best goth decor, heavenly drinks and mind blowing baked goods. I got the ah puch (hot cocoa) chilled and it was delicious! The skull cakes were soft and tasty - I got an ube flavored one and I'm still thinking about it. Their art is really great too and we were able to procure some nice pieces. You can tell that the owner has great taste and amazing creativity and works very hard! A new cafe in the NW with a touch of macabre. I guess even goths need caffeine to get their day going. This new cafe is situated in the same building as the Kiva spa on NW 24th. Talk about a pairing, right!? The decor is surprisingly cute and welcoming, especially with the nice open garage door to keep the place brighter than the black themed interior. Really a mixed experience here. As Steve and I were browsing the neighborhood Memento Mori is in we decided that due to it's theme it sounded like a fun place to go. And it wasn't bad. It certainly is a popular place with not a whole lot of seating so Steve dashed to the last table to claim it. We already decided what to get. The sandwich menu had two sandwiches, one that had sourdough bread and another that had Rye. I also was looking at their coffee drinks and was drawn to their Horchata Latte so that didn't take long to decide as to what coffee drink I'd be getting. The coffee drink arrived fairly quickly and was very good. The horchata and the coffee aspects played off of each other very well. The sandwich came a bit later and we starred eating it. And it was good, no doubt about it but we got tge sandwich with rye bread and we wanted the sourdough. Now I know when this happens a person is supposed to go tell one of the staff members but we were on a time frame and didn't want to take the additional time for a new sandwich to come out... the one we were hoping to get. So I guess clear away some time and not be in a rush if you come here and that happens. But as I said, nothing tasted bad but aside from getting the wrong item the congestion of other customers making orders didn't really motivate us to correct this either. So when it is your turn to be rung up verify what you ordered to ensure that the order is accurate because I imagine most people if it's during a rush will be more frustrated waiting in order to correct what they ordered. As far as atmosphere goes it's pretty cool ad it kind of has gothic and dark art themes going on which adds a lot of charm to this place and makes it unique in that regard. read more

I visited just this last Sunday to grab a quick coffee and walk home with a friend. We both really liked it! Very niche and goth - love it! They have a decent sized menu with small bites to eat, they had baked goods, and a good selection on their drink menu. The was so cute and kind! I really enjoyed that they had other small business merch displayed and for sale. They were doing tarot readings in a separate portion of the cafe when I came in. The section where they did the Tarot readings was a gorgeous like alcove. The only downfall I experienced was the prices were relatively high, I had a 16 ounce iced Anna Bee Lee with oat milk and with a small tip is was close to 8$ - My friend said her chai ended up costing her 10$ with tip. I stumbled upon Memento Mori Cafe by complete accident and I'm so happy I did! This plant based coffee shop has a spooky (or gothic) aesthetic with a plethora of different latte/ espresso/ cold brew/ tea/ blended/ and non caffeinated options. Their plant based milk options are soy, almond and oat. They offer vegan baked goods and breakfast sandwiches as well. I had a breakfast sandwich on a plain bagel and it was hands down one of the best I've had in a while (I've been vegan for 10 years and trust me when I say Memento really did something). While I waited for my Gremlin latte and breakfast sandwich I wandered around to the art wall where local artists display their beautiful work which is also for sale.
