Let me begin by saying that I do not keep Kosher. I have tasted all of the great pizza in NYC, and I traveled to Menedelsohn's at the recommendation of Pete Santanello. I took the F train from Manhattan to visit Mendelsohn's and I was not disappointed. I am upset that the owner (Heshy) was not wearing a mask, nor were most patron's. The staff were all wearing mask's, and they were all very busy. I ordered two Mushroom slices and I dined outdoors. My Pizza was surprisingly good. The dough was crisp, the Mushrooms were very tasty, and there was no excess oil. I will return when the plague has ended. read more

Extremely unique spot to grab a slice of Kosher pie, and soak in the culture that is Borough Park. Pizza crust has a crunch I have not experienced any where else in the world! Delivering high quality food for 50 years from the same location, this establishment is still dishing out it's unique recipes for pizza, ziti, and pita. "What do you want to eat? What will you have to drink?" The cashier, pointing to the cans of pop - "You want Coke, which one? Ok, NEXT!" LOL what a fun, true New York experience. My boyfriend and I saw this place in a YouTube video and it looked really good. We came to visit NYC from Las Vegas and we came to try it today. I found myself in the nabe again today at lunch and popped in. I then realized this not a pizza joint but more like a midtown Manhattan lunch buffet type of place. There's a salad bar where they make your greens to order. A sushi bar (small). An ice cream counter. Then there's a 100 ft. of glass displays divided into 3 main sections: pizza, hot dishes and sides (pastas, mashed veggies, etc). I had a nice, big piece of salmon, a heaping side of pasta and a drink for $10. They aren't cranking out the best of anything, but they are cranking out huge portions of pretty good food. Especially when you consider there is little good food in this area. Really. You can go a pretty good distance in any direction and only find a few places doing a few things right. This place, on the other hand, is huge and ambitious. That said, I'm not sure if I'd bring a dinner date here as it's kinda "serve yourself." Likewise, it caters to a Kosher/Hasidic crowd so I'm still not entirely sure what is served and not. In particular, I've yet to meet a meat (bit maybe they are hidden). For veg-heads, this should be a happy place. read more

Stoped in here to meet a client as this place is apparently known for having wholewheat pizza and abundant amount of space to sit. Was it a whole wheat? Absolutely, because it had that distinctive whole wheat flavour that is not mixed with anything else. Was it tasty? It wasn't bad...but it did not have a pizza flavour. It broke when I tried to pic it up since it had no flex to it. The mushrooms were huge, which was tasty, but it was impossible to eat it with your hands. The bottom of the dough was crisp which made it impossible to cut with the flimsy plastic knife. I found myself struggling more than enjoying. The place is clean, and service is friendly. There is a lot of sitting room. A slice of whole wheat pizza with mushrooms was $5. Would I stop by again? If you're the area than this is one of the better options for pizza. They also have a hot food bar and a salad bar. Why did I give it 4 stars? Because who really makes whole wheat pizza that is palatable. This place actually does it. read more

This is one of my all time favorite pizzerias. It is in the neighborhood and I have been going here for years. The workers are not too friendly, and their humor is not very funny, but their pizza is delicious. Ok, maybe they are not friendly because they are kosher and religious, and I bring in my shiksa girlfriend who was wearing a short skirt in. "Are you eating the pizza here??" "No, we are going to take it to my house" *death-stare* Anyway, their regular slices are really good. I think they put sugar in their tomato sauce because it is slightly sweet, which i LOVE. Their pizza is just a step above regular pizzerias. They got a lot of vegetable slices, and their mushroom and onion is is really good. I recommend getting that, or the regular onion one. The onions are caramelized to perfection, and are huge. They have great baked ziti and lasagna as well, get a size small and for 4.50 it will fill you up. Fish is just ok, salmon is not bad but nothing special. They don't have meat tor pepperoni since it is kosher. read more

Went here with the wife on Saturday night. Despite it being eight degrees Fahrenheit, the place was thirty-five percent full and relatively quiet. It was a bit chilly in the store, but it's a large area, so it takes time to heat up on such a cold day. The store has a very open, airy feel, probably due to the fact that it has high ceilings. We sat in the comfy booth chairs, and didn't feel crowded at all. We ordered a regular slice, spinach calzone, California roll, and a tempura (fried) salmon avocado roll. Bill total was twenty-two dollars. The slice tasted okay -- the sauce was sweet. Still, I know people like it, so I wouldn't say it's bad pizza, only it's not my taste. The spinach calzone, however, was tasty. A nice amount of spinach, and good cheese action going on! We waited about ten minutes for the sushi, but it was worth it! We both enjoyed the sushi a lot. The tempura roll was cooked perfectly. The tempura part wasn't too thin, and the fish tasted fresh. The California was good too. Rice was cooked well. Sushi came with spicy mayo (a little bit more spicy than usual) and sweet soy sauce. Overall, this is a great place for a date or a quick bite. In addition to pizza and sushi, Mendelsohn's sells pasta, salads, fish, and even ice cream on on well below freezing days. A great place to take the family! read more

Truly overrated pizza. Why go here for pretty mediocre, over priced lunch room style pizza, when you can take a walk down 18th ave a few blocks to davincis or j&v? Being so close to two of the most legendary slices in New York, it's hard to understand why mendelsohns does well. The delivery zone is tiny, and the service is pretty bad too! read more

New to the area and wanted to try the local pizza called the place and the woman who picked up was very rude and also 25 dollar minimum for credit cards which is illegal. Small pie and 2 liter coke came out to over 30 dollars for bread cheese and sauce def not ok ! I will be giving other pizza stores in the area My business. read more

Unsanitary and Unfriendly! The tables, floor; walls, counter is just not a place for dining. The food is way overrated. Not a place for a nice date. If you don't care for all that, then the food is ok. I'd rate the place a 3 if the place was cleaner. Being rude is classic New York style, yet it does turn off people from other areas. Mendelsohns is an awesome pizza store! There pizza is always fresh and everything looks so appetizing! I love their iced coffee coladas, however when I asked for chocolate and vanilla mixed milkshake they kinda took soft chocolate vanilla ice cream and mixed it together. Was also good. I grew up eating Kalman's pizza, even remember when a slice and small drink was $1. Now it's $3 a slice - not cheap, but they have the best pizza in Boro Park. The lines can be long but they keep them moving. I never eat the salads or side dishes - just the pizza and fries. My kids love the place, we keep on taking them back again and again. read more

Whenever I eat anything unexpectedly good, it makes me want to write about it. Stopped in here today for dinner with my kid. Normaly I'd never step in here. I don't like the customer service nor the stickiness of the place that never seems to go away. I ordered the penne, fully expecting it to be gross. Well I was certainly surprised. It was really good. Also the temperature was just right. The fries my kid ordered were lacking in taste, the soda I got from the fountain was without ice but pretty cold and they had cherry coke, my favorite! I did see a worker wiping down the trays which is better than other places and before I had a chance to bus my own table, a worker beat me to it which was also nice. It was annoying to have to stand in line three times. Once for the fries and penne, once for the pizza, and once to pay. It would have been nice to place my order at the initial line, with the worker passing on my pizza request so I wouldn't have to wait in line for it. read more

I love the pizza here. They do a great doughy but not too thick crust, plenty of sauce and cheese, and the sauce has a delicious tangy flavor. I do think you need to add some spices - oregano, pepper, etc. - all available there, but then it's basically my favorite pizza slice. For toppings, I would say their onion pizza or mushroom onion are the best ones - fabulous carmelized flavor. I also like their cheese blintzes. read more
