I went to have lunch at Mendocino Farms today with a friend, After debating about where to go for a light meal, we settled on Mendocino Farms in Santana Row. Parking was easy in the nearby parking lot which is a stone's throw away from the restaurant. The menu is great for both vegetarians and meat-eaters, and they offer substitutions like tofu instead of chicken. I ordered a Thai Mango salad which was very refreshing while my friend ordered a Chimichurri steak salad. The salads were fresh but I wish mine had more dressing to make it a little more tangy. We sat outside and when I went inside for a napkin to dust the table, the waiter rushed with a cloth and cleaner to tidy up our table. Patio seating was spacious and inviting. You place your order at the counter, and they bring the food out to your table. The portions are generous, so I usually end up with leftovers. 1 star - DO NOT EAT HERE I wish I could give zero stars. I don't normally eat here and had never been before, but I decided to stop in for a quick lunch with my 15-month-old son. I ordered a salad for myself, and he had the kids grilled turkey sandwich because it looked like the simplest, safest thing for a little one. He ate about half of his sandwich, and I took one single bite from the corner of it to check on him--that was literally all I had from his food. A few hours later we were both violently ill. My toddler threw up twice after we got home, and then again later. I started with severe nausea, nonstop vomiting, and diarrhea. I'm 24 weeks pregnant, and it escalated fast--I couldn't keep even small sips of water down. By that night I was so dehydrated I was dizzy, my heart was racing, and I could barely stand. I had to be rushed to the hospital for IV fluids and anti-nausea medication. I spent most of the next day hooked up to an IV because my electrolytes were completely tanked. All of this from one tiny bite of his grilled turkey sandwich. My 15-month-old only ate half and was still horribly sick; I can't even imagine how bad it would have been if either of us had finished the whole thing. My salad seemed fine on its own, so it's obvious the sandwich was the source. This is completely unacceptable--severe food poisoning from such a small amount is terrifying, especially when you're pregnant and caring for a baby that young. I will never go back to this restaurant and I strongly urge anyone--especially pregnant people or those with young children--to stay far away. Avoid at all costs. read more

I came on a Friday night around 6pm and was surprised to see they were sold out of almost half their menu. I ended up getting the Chimichurri Steak & Bacon. I'm not sure if I caught them on an off day or just a really busy day. I was in the area and looking for something quick, affordable, and healthy and Mendocino Farms seemed like a perfect fit. It didn't seem to busy when I arrived and there was only one other set of customers (a mom and daughter) that were ordering at the same time. There was no one up front when I arrived and I thought the digital menu screens were digital ordering kiosks, but found out quickly that I'd need someone to actually take my order. After fumbling with the screen for a minute a team member came up to take my order for real. I opted for the Modern Caesar ($12.50) and added chicken (+$4) after tip and tax it was $21.35. The person who took my order said there were water cups, but I didn't see any when I approached the drink machine. I decided I didn't need water yet and would check again later when they had time to restock. About ten minutes after ordering, my salad was delivered to my table and looked and tasted great. It had avocado, tomato, red onion, parmesan, "superfood krunchies" romaine, kale, baby spinach, cabbage, and Caesar dressing. It had a lot of crunch and texture and is the type of meal that feels healthy and super filling. The chicken I added was sliced, instead of cubed or a full breast and was a great addition. I went back inside to scope out the cup situation on the way to use the restroom and still no water cups, I also noticed when I put my tray away that the trays and dirty dishes were piling up. When I went to the restroom the first door (the second room where there are two doors on the wall) wouldn't shut, even when I pushed super hard, so knowing I couldn't lock it I went into the restroom on the the end (where there's just one room on the back wall). The restroom was in disarray with water all over the floor, but at least this one locked and there was toilet paper. The food was great, but the experience with confusion at the front on how to order, lack of water cups, built up dirty dishes waiting to be taken back, and the restroom situation makes me think they need some additional staff support. This was around 3:30pm on a Saturday, so after the lunch rush on what could have been a busy day. I probably won't be back to this location, since I was visiting the area, but I would give other locations a chance. Again, I'm hoping this was just an off day. read more

Food is always good here! I don't typically eat salads but I definitely can eat Mendocino farms' salads. I typically get a sandwich like the chicken pesto caprese (delicious!!!) but this time I got the chimichurri steak and bacon and oh my gosh delicious. My husband got the Thai mango salad and I loved the ramen noodle addition. At this location, there're floor to ceiling window sliding doors which they open up. Just as I was about to tell my husband how I like the open concept and fresh air, he said that he wishes it was closed HAHAHA so hit or miss! We were a little confused on how they would know who the food goes to but they must be super communicative in the back because they got our food to us just fine. Great service! read more

Pro Tip: Mendocino farms got rid of their fan favorite impossible taco salad a while back, but its still on the menu. Order the Avocado & Quinoa Superfood Ensalada and add impossible taco meat in it. Voila, same impossible taco salad you love. With that said this Mendocino farms is one of my favorite. On a nice sunny day it's a great place for healthy eats and a great hangout. It's tucked at the end of the Santana Row strip and is out of the way of the super busy touristy area. I appreciate that Mendocino Farms opened a location here because a lot of fast food options in the area are super heavy and junky. It maybe a bit out of your way but if you want to keep those calories you burned off from shopping, I highly recommend this location. Always clean, ample space, and staff is quick/courteous with your order. They basically bring out your order after you scan the QR code at your table. Highly recommend. read more

This review is long overdue! I've dined at this location many times and every visit has been great. The offerings are creative with a diverse menu that makes it easy to make even the pickiest eater happy. I really enjoy the salads here. My favorite is the Thai Mango Salad with tofu. But you can't go wrong with any of them. I recently broke from Thai Mango tradition to try the Chen's Crispy Rice Salad. I wasn't disappointed. Every salad is filled with fresh ingredients and a variety of textures. I love that their lettuce doesn't have that "bagged salad" taste to it. Everything looks and tastes fresh. As for sandwiches, I love the Vegan Banh Mi. Very simple and flavorful! Their tofu has a delicious taste and texture that I crave. I appreciate the half sandwich combo as it's just enough without being too filling. I pair my sandwich with the Kale and Apple Rainbow Salad. Anywhere else I only get water but at Mendo I always get either the Guava Lemonade or the Pomegranate Mint Lemonade. It's a tough decision as to which is better. I recommend you try both. It's typically busy on weekdays at lunchtime but I've never waited long for my order, nor have I had a hard time finding seating. They do have outdoor seating available and, being Santana Row, the outdoor seating is dog friendly. Appears that most orders are to go as this location is in close proximity to two tech companies. Staff is very personable. The place is kept clean. Prices are reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. Probably one of the best options at Santana Row when you look at quality and value. Parking is available in one of the garages. I think it's free for the first hour. read more

Mendo's is the first healthy establishment where I actually started craving for a salad. The avocado quinoa superfood salad, that is! The different textures of all the ingredients work very well together. The quinoa is nice and toasted and the chipotle vinaigrette is super addictive. I always ask for extra dressing which is pleasantly at no charge. You can't go wrong with any of their other offerings as well. I also really like their Thai mango salad, impossible beef taco salad, and chicken parm dip. The sandwiches are a bit small though, so I often stick to the salads. Although the food is good, the restaurants are always cold and the tables never get bussed and it's a very messy place as far as the floors and everything else. My husband went to get a rag so he could wipe our table down before we sat down, and the rag itself was filthy. As we sat and watched the unbussed tables, the staff would drop off food and just walk by the tables not even thinking about picking up or cleaning anything. I wish management would look around and take care of some of these things. I stopped at Mendocino Farms in west San Jose for lunch while shopping at Westgate. It's a smaller location with about 20 indoor tables, and it's fairly noisy inside, but there's also a small outdoor patio with umbrellas. The service was friendly and fine for a walk up and order, self serve beverages, where they bring your order to your table, and you bus your own table and put your dishes and trash/compost in the bins. I ordered the Avocado & Quinoa Superfood Ensalada with added chicken ($4+). The all the salad ingredients were fresh and delicious, but the chicken was dry and had an almost mealy texture. When you're out shopping in Santana Row and you're craving fresh salad and don't want to break the bank, I think: Mendocino Farms! I love their outdoor seating area. It's great for people watching. It's at one end of the strip and has nice trees and a fountain. The interior has cute decor, as all Mendo stores do! They have delicious sandwiches too, so I've heard. We enjoyed everything we had, from the club sandwich combo with potato salad, the crispy rice salad, and the prosciutto and chicken ciabatta.
