So this is a hard one to review. I want to give them 5 stars for the food. But the service was a hit or miss with two exceptions. Below is our experience We stayed at the Ilikai for 10 days, we probably eat here at least six or seven times for lunch or for dinner. We did not have one bad meal as far as food. The items we tried were the kalua omelette, Kalua sliders, kalua pork sandwich, hot wings,edamame,Jalapeno popper sandwich,Waimea burger, the ribeye and our favorite by far the fresh catch of the day fish and chips. Oh and the crispy onions we also loved! That's all I can remember. We only took a couple photos of the food. Their signature Mai Tai was also nice with the twist of coconut rum in it. I mean come on! Who can't be happy with a Mai Tai and beautiful view to enjoy the sunset from? Plenty of TV's and live entertainment. For all that above I give 5 stars Now why I wanted to give 3 stars. The first three days we had amazing service, fast, polite and on top of it. After that it went down hill with two exceptions . When the manager could see the service getting behind (new hires) he stepped right in to make things right. I won't get into detail because as I said he stepped in and got everything settled. The other is the owner, great guy and also stepped in wherever he could. He was always looking to make sure things were going well. Both the Owner and manager along with the food are what kept us coming back. So for their efforts we give them a 4 stars I understand staffing and training issues with a new company so I gave them grace for that because you can see they both want this place to succeed just as we do! The service here was good and the restaurant is in a nice spot that overlooks the ocean depending on where you sit. The food in the other hand was very underwhelming especially for the price. I'd rather find a food truck somewhere than eat here again. I asked for a Burger cooked medium and my wife asked for well done. Both burgers were well done. I normally don't push that type of issue so I let it go. The burger was like a cafeteria burger. I don't recommend. Local roaster and so good. They sell it at the restaurant so grabbed a bag to take home. Came back the next night and had the grilled shrimp. Server said they had just added it to the menu. Grilled shrimp sounds basic but this was anything but basic. It was on this egg patty base- with an Asian sauce that had a small kick and served with a sesame dressed salad and some rice on top. Disappointed with lunch I went for lunch a couple of days ago with two friends. I got the smash burger. It was poor quality meat. There were several pieces of gristle in it. One of my friends got an omelette. She said it was way too salty. My other friend got the Eggs Benedict. She said the egg was cooked perfectly but she didn't really like the sauce. Came in for a week to stay at the Ilikai. Found this gem the 1st morning. Made friends with an awesome Australian couple in the bar, also on vacation there. We'd meet at the bar pretty much every day. Wailani was sweet with a great sense of humor. Eli always smiling behind the bar. Dwite was a great bartender, you have to try his "smokey tequila" shots. Since this was our first time there, I can't comment on the entire menu but I can say that the loco moco did not disappoint and the mochi pancakes was one of the best I've ever had. It was gooey in the middle and a little crispy along the edges. I also recommend ordering a side of crispy bacon. I'll definitely be back again. Mahalo. This place is amazing! I stayed at the hotel for 10 days total. I had enjoyed this Location for evening cocktails as well as delicous breakfasts. My trip was unexpectedly extended and I was able to use my laptop while enjoying breakfast creating a beautiful tropical office setting. The waitress was so accommodating and understanding to assist my needs. I felt everything I ordered was delicious and very reasonably priced. The female bartender in the evening was also very kind and pleasant. I loved all the various seating options some with Harbor views and some with tropical trees, or waterfall background. When I visited the pool on the property they also served food from the grill restaurant including happy hour selections. My favourite drink was their Mai Tai! There was music every night. They have lots of TVs if you want to watch your favourite sports team. Kaipo has done a great job establishing Menehune in a short period of time. I normally don't write bad reviews, but this one is a must. At first we thought oh this is gonna be a great restaurant. It's beautiful nicely decorated right by the ocean. However, the food and the service definitely is alarming. Our waiter was at our table every minute to three minutes we ordered drinks and then we said we wanted to look at the menu. He continued to bother us so we ordered. our drinks didn't arrive until almost 15 minutes later and then we waited and waited. Our food finally arrived at least 30 minutes or maybe longer. It was cold, dry out and terrible. We were with a group of people and I didn't wanna make a fuss however, I was not happy. To top it off we were only six people, and they added gratuity to our bill. I was so upset. It is my choice to put a gratuity not theirs again my fault for not saying anything or making a fuss but this is why I'm writing is review.
