5 stars simply for the iced Spanish Latte ($6.50), which is actually my favorite drink in the whole wide world. I've tried the other drinks, a few of which I didn't love as much, but the Spanish Latte is what I crave when it's not in front of me. There is metered parking in front, but it's steps from the beach so good luck. read more

So funny how some reviewers below just don't get coffee. If you are users too sugary Starbucks cr*p and are not open-minded better skip. You'll find Menotti's menu expensive and the portions small. But if you want a third-wave bold, balanced, flavorful cup of espresso or a real european-style macchiato look no further, this tiny and uber-hip spot will deliver. read more

The head barista, Nicely, struck me as genuinely warm and friendly. I can see why "nicely" became his nickname. He exudes kindness and humility while briefly chatting with him. I wouldn't mind stopping by often and making Menotti's part of my daily routine. Not only is Nicely nice. He is a latte art world champion! Very clean, Instagrammable quality latte art for sure. His cortados are sweet compared to my favorite G&B, Endorffeine, and Dinosaur (the best coffees in the city IMO) who each make their cortados a little differently. I would tell them not to sweeten my cortado next time. ***Chris "Nicely" mentioned to me to me that his cortado recipe "...stems from a more traditional style of preparation from my upbringing in a Puerto Rican home." Just an FYI. He says to order a piccolo if you want it with no sugar.*** They use Four Barrel beans from San Francisco. A nice surprise are those chocolate chip cookies they sell from Hatchet Hall. It's probably one of the top in the city... along with Proof Bakery's chocolate chip cookie and maybe Short Cake. Parking is a b*%#* in this area. I was lucky to find free 5 minute parking right in front. A wonderful café for those who live in the neighborhood and tourists in Venice Beach. One of the few places in the Westside where you can get coffee nerd level coffee. Maybe this place, Cognoscenti, and Intelligentsia on Abbott Kinney. read more

A unique experience to get above average coffee. Under-decorated, and clean the focus of Menotti's is the coffee. Our barista recommended a drink off their secret menu, cold brew with a shot of cream and their house-made vanilla syrup. It was a delicious treat, perfect for walking along the beach on a hot afternoon. read more

The coffee was good but the two employees that worked there was really rude and screamed at their customers for not moving fast enough in line, giving snarky comments regarding questions on orders and being rude saying that I was too eager to pay for my coffee when I reminded that I was going to pay for two coffees and not only one. Then when we are sitting drinking our coffee the girl who is working there comes out with a taser to chase of a person from the property and threatening to use it if he didn't leave. I will never go back again!! read more

Love this place the staff is very good and they're all kind. They really know a great deal about coffee although I am a bit disappointed with there being options because they only really have options for espresso when I went.The vegan Mexican latte we got was one of the best drinks my girlfriend and I had ever had and it is right next to the beach so you can grab a coffee to go and walk along the sand if you would like. I wish they had more merchandise options because I would love to buy a coffee cup or something else luckily when I went one of the staff gifted me a cup that was damaged. Truly a great experienceWhich made us to return two more times during our four-day stay. read more

A cute lil joint near the venice boardwalk. A simple place to grab a cup of joe and go, or sit and enjoy the intentional interior decor. The baristas were super sweet and gave me a free coffee (in addition to the one I bought) after I spent about half an hour sitting and reading in their shop. Came here on a rainy Friday morning with a friend. Got to try a latte and a cortado. The espresso in both was incredibly rich tasting. It's not often that I crave lattes from specific coffee shops, but Menotti's definitely made it on the list. The baristas were all very friendly and the coffee was made pretty quickly! Despite the smaller size of the shop, the space is designed very well so that there is a good amount of seating, whether it be at the large table in the center or the bars lining the walls. The decor is also aesthetically pleasing. The shop also has a prime location as it is basically at the entrance to the boardwalk and the beach. I also saw several customers bring their dogs in with them while they ordered their drinks. Dog friendly! As for parking, there is a 1 hour lot where you can pay at a station or parking can be found in the neighborhoods off Grand or Venice. read more

Good little spot. Thought the espresso was not up to my liking. It was a sour and almost burnt bean flavor. The espresso should be robust, flavorful and smooth. Easy to find. Easy to bike to. Hard & Terrible spot to find parking. Small, spot with limited seating. Come early in the morning for an empty cafe. Good for meetings. It good to work from. Tip: they are fans of wet cappuccinos (basically a latte). So if you like it dry, get it. Totally the New Style hip coffee shop (minimalist decor). read more

Now this--this is coffee. Watching the barista make the coffee was like watching Michelangelo sculpt The David. He was meticulous, taking the utmost care with every step. Pure craftsmanship. I ordered something off the secret menu. The secret menu is a physical menu hidden by the register. How wonderful is that? I don't remember what it was called, it had to do with oranges, but it was amazing. The café itself is everything one could hope for in a coffee establishment in Venice: intimate, cozy size; outdoor seating a block from the beach; stylish décor; hipsters working on MacBooks with well-manicured mustaches. The place has it all. Go check it out. Five stars for having damn good coffee, an authentic Venice vibe, and employing whoever my awesome barista was. read more

Coffee connoisseurs, rejoice! You have another outstanding destination for specialty coffee in the SaMo/Venice area! Surrounded by a curious collection of mediocre eateries and tattoo parlors on Windward Ave (in case you're wondering, this street is clearly marked by the ever famous Venice sign), the hidden gem that is Menotti's Coffee Stop serves delicious coffee beverages, all with a Seattle/SF approach. Everything about Menotti's is lovely, warm, and inviting. Their remarkable staff are friendly, humble, grateful, and of course, knowledgeable and well-equipped for the task of crafting amazing beverages. Make no mistake, Menotti's is not a multi-roaster third wave coffee shop as they exclusively serve San Francisco based Four Barrel Coffee. And if you're a fan of Four Barrel, you'll be happy to know that Menotti's does the best job with these beans in SoCal. Cortado ($4.00): 5/5 Have you ever visited a coffee shop and knew exactly what you want, only to be persuaded otherwise? Baristas Mario and Alexandria instructed me that their cortado was a little sweet because they pull their espresso over demerara sugar. I was sold! Unsatisfied with the body of the steamed milk after being poured, Mario apologized and made a new cortado. I must say, this was one of the best I've tasted. They pulled a great shot of Friendo Blendo that was rich and full bodied, with a clean finish. What might have been the best part of this beverage were those caramelized sugar crystals chasing the last sip! Unnamed Espresso Beverage ($4.00): 4.5/5 I was a little more adventurous during my follow up visit a week later. Once again, Mario and Alexandria were here at Menotti's and I requested an off-menu beverage. They remembered me (I owe it all to my GGET cap. In case you're wondering, GGET=Go Get Em Tiger=The Best Place for Coffee=Glanville & Babinski) and were cool enough to grant my request under the stipulation that I not say what was ordered, nor take any photos. Deal. I will say that the Four Barrel Andino pulled was a little bright but pulled well and delicious! Even though this beverage does not exist, I'm sure Mario will have no issues crafting one for me again. ;D If you're in the SaMo/Venice area and want a little variety (that is, you want a change of pace from 49th Parallel or Intelli), you certainly have to visit Menotti's. They're certainly one of the best places for coffee in LA. read more

Immature and sexist staff that doesn't understand how to respect customers. Their staff member ("Nicely") is rude. I came here with my girlfriend and she bought a drink. Nicely condescendingly stated that it's not right that I'm not buying my girlfriend's drink. He made a note to tell me that I should pay for her, because she is a woman. This is immature and it's stupid. You shouldn't talk to people like that, and you shouldn't assume I don't buy drinks for my girlfriend (I do). And Nicely's assumption that she needs me to pay for her because I'm male is sexist. Also, the staff here is really pretentious about almond milk. They act as if you are not hip if you don't choose almond milk. It's weird. read more

Kinda disappointed. No WiFi. No outlets to do work if you could do work without WiFi. Didn't know any of this until after I ordered. The cold brew always average which made it feel expensive. Nothing special. No need to go back if I were in the area. read more

This was a fine coffee shop. I tried the number 2 pencil, which is a charcoal latte. Never had one before so it was interesting. Not sure I was totally into it but at least I tried the hype. I was kind of upset too because my cup wasn't filled all the way. For the price I was at least expecting a full cup but maybe I missed something. They offer a few cup of coffee if you buy a bag of beans. That's pretty cool. read more

BEST COFFEE! This place makes me so happy. They serve Four Barrel coffee and head barista Nicely is a Coffeefest World Latte Art Champion. This is THE place to go if you're serious about your coffee. The pastries are insanely good too. Fresh every morning... AND, they've just started stocking ZenBunni Chocolate. This place is all around addictive! Menotti's is very dog friendly too. Scruffmonster recommends the croissant crumbs on the floor and says "Get in quick before some silly human has the chance to sweep them up!" ...well, I'm pretty sure that's what she says. I was introduced to Menotti's Coffee Stop by fellow yelper, Ben G. He's a regular there. Thanks Ben! We went there for coffee one weekend. He recommended the Iced Mocha so I got that. It was great!! Menotti's is an expensive coffee stop, but I loved the Iced Mocha. It wasn't too sweet which is great! And I think it was a little nutty. If you need it to be sweeter, there's a plethora of different sweeteners near the entrance of the restaurant. I would come back! I would recommend Menotti's! read more

A hidden gem right off the Venice boardwalk is found! In my mind, Menotti's has the perfect amount of space for a coffee stop. One table facing the window and a thin strip of bar with only enough counter space for your coffee. If you're looking to type up your next novel or get some studying done, look elsewhere. However, if you've come for coffee, you're in the right place. Serving up Four Barrel, their espresso takes me back to the Mission. I actually stumbled upon this place after an article I read on Sprudge. An off-menu item served in a silver cup called the Caffe RIco sparked my interest. This is a double shot with a house-made Tahitian vanilla syrup and a twist of orange zest topped off with a dusting of cinnamon. Clover whole milk is used to complete the pour, of course. I've tried many creative espresso conceptions, but this is by far the most unique and successful. I hate the overly sweetened flavors of pump syrups. The Rico has all the flavor without the sugar. I love it. I mentioned that this coffee stop isn't made for lounging for hours; however, they do accommodate fans of comics with a fine selection to peruse. Whoah. Wow. Menottis Coffee Stop is amazing. The drinks are amazingly crafted. Nicely and his crew know what they are doing at every level. They can pull shots amazingly well and serve up the latte art with the best of them. Every detail is freakin top notch. Nothing is left to chance. I ordered 4 drinks. They are consistent. Check out the secret menu. Wow the Caffe Rico is now one of my favorite drinks in Los Angeles period. I had three of them in 1 sitting. We've been traveling LA following the 2017 best coffee list and though this is 2 on the list we were pretty disappointed! The coffee was weak, milk was burnt and overall consistency was really off (tried two coffees from here). It may be a matter of which barrister you get but that to me is yet another inconsistency. Wouldn't go back here again. Milk alternatives were hemp and almond. read more

I order hot drinks even on hot days just so I can watch them pour the milk. I used to live around the corner and still wish I did because of this coffee shop. If you haven't been to Menotti's yet, and love coffee, you owe yourself a visit to this spot. The barista's know their stuff, and your "brew" is unlikely to disappoint even the most ardent connoisseur. Food choices are limited to croissants, cookies, and the like...but what there is is always fresh and tasty...and it must be mentioned their chocolate chip cookie is a stand-out. While the atmosphere and attitude of the shop were off the charts pretentious, the coffee was AMAZING. I asked the barista to make the drink most unique to their shop. He made me the espresso and tonic. It sounded extremely strange to me and I was hesitant because I prefer cream in my drinks. I'm so glad I trusted him because it's one of the best espresso drinks I've ever tried! read more

I have known Nicely for a bit now. I lost track of him after he stopped working for Intelligentsia back in the day. It's great to see him back on the Westside, with his own coffee shop! Let's talk about the space first. The space had formerly been an abandoned storefront in the same building that houses Townhouse. The development team went into it and rehabilitated the space in a rather stunning fashion, cleaning everything up and repurposing as many elements as they could. The wooden counter is 300 years old and the front of the counter utilizes old ceiling panels that are at least 100 years old. It's rather small, but that's the nature of the space. The coffee is delicious. Would you expect anything else of Nicely? Four Barrel coffee, proudly brewed. This little spot is tucked away rather unassumingly, but don't let that affect your opinion. The product is most definitely not unassuming, and well worth a try! read more

I heard great things about this coffee shop, so I travelled from El Segundo on a Sunday morning to check it out. The vibe of the place is great, clean and perfectly situated close to Venice Beach itself. The guy serving the coffee was nice and they played vinyl records for their background music, which was cool. I went to order my drink and found out that they only went up to 14oz, so I went with that. It was expensive at $5! I was disappointed by the coffee's taste as even though they used two shots of espresso, it was rather bland and devoid of a rich coffee taste. Everything was great except the coffee and a little expensive, even for the area. read more

History

Established in 2013.

Menotti's was the original name of The Townhouse bar back in 1915. An Italian gentleman, named Ceasar Menotti, opened the saloon in 1915 and hid the bar beneath a grocery store upstairs from 1920 to 1933, throughout the prohibition era. We serve Four Barrell coffee from that very building, next door to The Townhouse bar, and come visit the original speakeasy hidden beneath.
